Hello, everyone! Big week for many of you, including myself. And not just 'cause it's Thanksgiving -- we have stretch-run games to win!
What a strange fantasy week that was ... so many points, yet so many by worthless fantasy players. Let's get to the questions ...
What are your thoughts on handcuffing a WR? I've got Plaxico - not the most reliable this year - who could miss time with this latest injury. is Domenik Hixon worth picking up, or do you like Santonio Holmes, Rasheid Davis or Michael Jenkins more?
Wow, I was just thinking something similar while reading up on Plax, who is very much in danger of missing this week. I don't know if I'd call it handcuffing since you're not picking him up to sit on the bench, but if Hixon starts in place of Plax, yes, I'd start him over those other guys. I like him and that offense that much, even in WAS.
I'm hurting at running back and I need a win to make the playoffs. I have SJAX and K.Smith. Smith plays Thurs against a tough D and may be hurt. And who knows what SJAx is going to do. I have a pickup in for Fargas right now. Reggie Bush, McLain, and Ricky are also available for this week. What do you think? Bench Smith and wait?
Well, you'll have to see what Smith's status is. His shoulder (and knee) are apparently hurting him. But if he's well, I think you should start him, even against TEN. Jackson is by no means safe, and still might be out. But if there's any hint of doubt about smith, Fargas also makes for a good start at home against KC. The Raiders appear to have turned their offense into like a high school's -- run, run, run.
Hey Brendan...!!!!!!wouldnt be a Turkey Day without your advice. Gore over Lynch this weekend or just close my eyes and pick or do you see one standing out more than the other? Chris Johnson is my other "Starting Against Detroit Bonanza" start of the week.
Happy Turkey Day upcoming to you all, too! Yup, Johnson is money, and I'd stick with Gore. He's been so great this season, and I caught that Cowboys game. Dallas stacked up against Gore, which helped Shaun Hill have a good day but also got them the win. I don't think Buffalo will (or could) do any such thing. It's Gore, for me.
Hey Brendan,Happy Thanksgiving! Housh or Bowe this week?
That's a good one, actually, because it appears Bowe will be covered most of the time by shutdown corner Nnamdi Asomugha. That said, Housh plays the Ravens, and I'm seriously putting the over/under at Bengals scoring at 8 points. (And Fitzpatrick being checked out by trainer 17 times.) I stick with Bowe; he has been so very consistent, and he'll still get his catches and maybe another score.
Brendan, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and yours. 1/2 ppr 1 point 15 yds receiving...1 pt. 10 yds rushing..Winslow or Witten? Can drop 1 of them for Keller if you think he is a better start...Need 2..Warick Dunn, Forte, or Portis?
Wow, two great tight ends there, and I so love Keller! Ya know, considering Witten is banged up and doesn't have a great sked to run out the string, and it's late in the year, so cuts don't kill you as much, why not: I'd cut Witten for Keller, who has emerged as a reliable fantasy TE. That said, I still like Winslow more this week. I'd play it safe: Forte and Portis.. Then again, I was wrong about Dunn's upside last week.
Hey, Brendan...I just recieved my umpteenth ding letter so I could really use the championship, if you know what I mean! Anyway, can I ride Big Ben and Trent Edwards for the next three weeks or would I make better use of my time by looking for a part-time job?
I think Big Ben should be serviceable, whereas Edwards would still scare me as a starter. I think that should answer it.
If benches counted, I'd be blowing out my league. Give me a good reason I should't bench Gore over MJD and Chris Johnson this week? And do the matchups of A. Bryant and Holt merit starting over Moore and Bowe?
Yeah, with those three, I can understand why your bench has been so productive. I would start Gore over MJD. The reason: MJD has Fred Taylor, Gore has, uh, nobody. Gore has 227 touches this season, MJD has 158, and I don't see those paces changing. At WR, I'd stick with the final two guys.
Are LT and Gore a must start every week? Would you be tempted to start LJ and Dunn instead?
Yeah, I think Gore and LT are every-week starts. Unfortunately, I think LJ is just short of that. You have all four? What fortune! I'd stick with Gore and LT this week, though.
And I'll wash your car. 1/2 PPR league, pick 3. LT,LJ, Gore, MJD, Slaton
LT, Gore, MJD ... free of charge, no car wash necessary!
Do I ride the Cassel hot streak in spite of his matchup against Pittsburgh or do I jump to Matt Ryan and his more favorable matchup against San Diego?
Good question, DGA, but I stick with Cassel. Sure, he's hot, but the Steelers also have some nicks on D, and the game is in New England. I think he'll get his points.
what's wrong with b.edwards, can he start catching some ? start 2 .. b.edwards/berrian/s.moss this week.
Braylon is inconsistent, in part of the team's struggling QBs. But I don't like Berrian against his former team, the Bears. I'd start Braylon and Santana.
Hey BR, I need advice for my flex this week: McGahee, Hillis, K. Walter - Thanks
K. Walter. Yup, you heard me. I hear Selvin Young is back for DEN, which muddles that situation (even more). Meanwhile, how 'bout that Walter guy!
Brendan you gotta tell me who goes in at WR3, Bess, Berrian, or Gage
Bess? You mean the possible Dolphins starting WR (in place of Camarillo?). Either way, Gage at DET is my choice.
Last week to determaine playoffs and Im stuck on who I should start at my flex, D.Jackson, W.Parker or McGahee?
Boy, Parker is questionable and might be a game-time decision. Unfortunately, that game is a 4:15 ET game. If it appears he'll play, he's the guy. If not, DeSean. Le'Ron McClain appears to have nailed down "primary back" duties in BALT.
I need a waiver wire DST for this week. How's New England, Colts or Chargers?
Ah, the rotating D. I like that strategy! Hmm, tough call, but I think INDY could rattle Brady Quinn ... and maybe the weather will be bad too!
Ronnie Brown or MJD?
i start 3 WRs, and every week my "must starts" are jennings and fitz, but i always have a dilemma at No. 3 b/w welker and moore. They both seem to be "must starts" as well, but do i just play matchups b/w them two or just flip a coin every week? .25 ppr
I understand the frustration. Just keep playing the matchups, and then you know you've done your best. But I like Welker at home more this week.
If SJax is announced "the starter"....are you starting him??
For the most part, yes I am. On the one hand, the Rams are hurting so bad, he'll be the D's focus. On the other: He's all the Rams have. I say "for the most part" because some owners here seem to be loaded. If you have two other fine options, they're probably safer. But assuming you don't, start S-Jax and trust him to get at least something for you.
i have had Lendale's matchup with detroit circled all year, then he goes and open his big mouth after the jets/titans game???your thoughts???is he a safe play???
Yeah, that's a tough call. I think you start him if you normally do, simply because the Titans should be able to score a-plenty, and you figure White (11 TDs still!) should get at least one of 'em. It's not like he'll be suspended or anything; they've cleared the air.
I also have Jacobs....so same question: if he is announced "the starter"...are you starting him? Can we expect 75+ and a TD?
Yeah, I start him if he's announced the starter.
I have a conundrum, I'm in the playoffs with a first round bye and have Romo as my QB, I can drop matt Ryan to pick up Cassel. My think in this is to not allow my possible week 15 opponent to get him (they currently have Orton and Big Ben)at which point I would have only one pick up left for the season (limit 20) thoughts on cornering the market?
Cornering the market doesn't make friends, but you don't have to justify this one. That move makes sense for you anyway, and I'm not sure I'd analyze it beyond that. Heck, the rest of the world is chasing Cassel right now, why can't you? I pick him up and just hope you don't need to make more than one move rest of season.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Brendan we start 2 WR's and I have Randy Moss and Bowe. 1/2 ppr. I can drop Betts (I own Portis)or Plax and pick up Ginn or Toomer for this week. Thanks you are the man..
What's wrong with Moss and Bowe? I'd stand pat; yes, even with Betts (unless you have a ton of RB depth). Portis is hurting, and you might need Betts during the playoffs. Unless you seriously would rather start Ginn this week over, say, Bowe, then I'd stay put.
Follow up to your answer....Ronnie is playinf the RAMS!!
Indeed he is ... and so is Ricky Williams and an emerging Dolphins passing game. Good point, though, Bob.
Brendan, I'm off to lunch, so I will see if you answer me when I get back. Got a quick RB question. Would you take a chance on Westbrook this week, or play Grant at home against CAR? Also, gotta love the Pennington matchup vs. STL over Thigpen this week right? Thanks Brendan.
Grab me a Reuben, will ya? ... I still like Westbrook, but between he and Grant this week, I'd still say Grant. Oh, Thigpen has been so good, though. I stay with him in Oakland instead of reaching for Pennington. Orton didn't do much in STL; the Bears ran all day.
What do you expect if anything out of Westbrook? I can pick up MeMo, L Washington, Hillis or P Thomas. THX
I rarely look at the names of the questions I answer ... I stick with Westbrook. At least he has a decent matchup, and he's at home. Maybe national TV will wake him up!
Hey, haven't left yet! Thanks for the answer...mmmmmm, Reuben. You bet.
Extra Thousand Island dressing.
Two guys you mentioned that you like: Hixon and Walter...who would you start this week between those two?
Between these two ... hmm, probably Walter. Just seems safer. I think he's worked his way into No. 2 WR land, whereas Hixon sounds like a good wild-card flex play. Also want to make sure people realize I'm talking about only if Plax misses.
Start Lendale over Westbrook?
Nope, Westbrook for me.
Quick one for you Brendan, If FWP is questionable, should I start Hightower on thanksgiving to be safe?
Those darned Thursday games! Yeah, I probably would do that.
Brendan..I am playing golf tomorrow,so need an answer today if possible. Pick one: Hillis, Run DMC, Reggie Bush. Thanks and happy turkey day!
If Bush didn't play at TB (if he plays), I'd say him. Instead, Run DMC. Another 40-plus carries coming up for Oakland backs!
Lance Moore or Vicent Jackson this week?
What do you think about the Browns RB situation? Any chance they take a long look at Jerome Harrison over the remainder of the season with the playoffs now out of reach?
Yes, I think they do, but Lewis will still get his work. Maybe instead of 15-20 carries for Jamal, he'll get 10-15. That hurts his already-borderline value, but it doesn't help Harrison enough to make him start-worthy (unless Lewis is out of the picture).
Is Sammy Morris a good start? How about over Reggie Bush?
I have my doubts as to how much work Bush will actually get in Tampa Bay. Yeah, it's Morris for me.
How do you think the weather in Cleveland will affect the Colts O? I can start up to 4 Indy guys (Peyton, Addai, Wayne, Gonzo) plus Viniateri
Well, we don't know about the weather yet, so a little early to speculate. But I would say you should be OK. The Colts' offense is what it is, and it's not meant to be a grind-it-out team. Bad weather might mean an extra pick or fumble, and maybe even missed FG, but I still think the Colts get their yards and points regardless. You should be OK.
Coles or Colston this week?
Coles. Colston's one catch and score was a little fluky last night ... in that the play broke down, and Colston should cut down the sideline and Brees saw him. He was covered much of the play.
Cutler or Pennington and the "emerging pass game"?
"Emerging" meaning the Dolphins don't have to run 40 times a game anymore ... I'd still say Cutler.
am i even a number 2 at this point?
Unfortunately, no. But Lance Moore can be considered that on a number of teams!
Mcfadden or Dunn this week?
In that case, I'd say Warrick Dunn.
Should I start McNabb, Campbell or Rosenfels?
Oh, a tough one. Ya know, I say McNabb. With all the hubbub cleared from my mind, he's the guy I think will put up the best numbers. Really, that's what it's all about.
Winslow or Witten this week? Also, who is the better play throughout the playoffs?
Even with the Browns' passing game struggling, Winslow. As the team struggles and the weather gets bad, they'll be looking to "the soldier" over the middle. He'll get his yards AND score. I'm calling for TD this week.
Winslow, you answered that before...My running back situation is ugly this week. I have McGahee, Parker, and Hillis and have to start 2. Options on the wire include McClain, D-Ward, Leon Washington, Fred Taylor and Ricky Williams...any of those guys better options (if not all!)?
Yeah, some good options on the wire there! Obviously depends on Parker's and Jacobs' status, but I'm going on the assumption that Parker doesn't play (or plays sparingly) and Jacobs plays normally ... The two I like best would be McClain and Ricky Williams, for whatever that's worth. Don't shake up your roster based on this, but McClain certainly seems more valuable than McGahee right now.
Is Bruce finally connecting (Ha! pun intended) with Hill in SF?
They'll continue to be inconsistent. I think Bruce is a matchups play, but not like you'd normally think. You look at whether the team's opposing defense is good at stopping the run, which would force the Niners to pass. That was the case for the Cowboys'. If the opposing run D is weak, the Niners will run and limit Bruce; if the opposite, Bruce could do OK. This week: The Niners can run on the Bills' D, so Bruce sits, in my mind.
Any word on the Williams' suspension? Matt Forte owners want to know!
Still no word ... and it must be announced by end of today for it to take effect this week. Looking like it won't happen yet. Forte might have to deal with a tough Vikings run D, but I'd still start him in most setups.
Ward or Pierre for RB2 in PPR? Why no love for Pierre in projections? Thanks....
Well, Tampa Bay is pretty good against the run, and Bush should (but not known for sure) be back. If it's looking Bush is back, I'd say Ward.
Help me out brother! Pick two. Slaton, TJones, LJ or SJax?
Slaton is pretty banged up, making this a tough call. But I'd still start him in this tough call. At least he has another day to rest up (HOU plays Monday). T.Jones would be my other start.
With Cam out, what does that do for Ginn? More points or more coverage?
Both. I was looking over Miami's receiving options today, and it's pretty ugly. Bess, Ernest Wilford? Yuck! I think Ginn gets a few more targets, as do the backs.
Help me out once again Brendan. Start Welker over Bowe in a half PPR (I'm worried about the Nnamdi factor). Also, Jamal Lewis over Brian Westbrook this week? I'm worried Lewis is losing carries. Thanks again, man.
Welker quietly has three straight 100-yard games ... I love that guy! In that case, Nnamdi does drop Bowe beneath the starting threshold. And I'd definitely go with Westbrook for the other spot.
Do you think that Greg Olsen has value? What about Lee Evans, is Trent Edwards going to be able to get him the ball? Thanks!
I like Olsen's value even with Des. Clark playing. Not that he might be out, I really like him against MIN. Consider him a nice sleeper start, even though Clark's injury is still being evaluated and he's not a sure out.
What value does Pierre Thomas hold with or without Duece or Reggie? PPR
He holds value as a bench option in the off chance Bush either doesn't play or gets hurt again. You know he can be productive in the offense and be a good No. 2/flex start if Bush misses.
Hey Brendan, happy Thanksgiving. I have a toughy here... Who do I sit? I need to start 2: Lynch @ SF, Addai @ Cle, and Forte @ Min. Thanks!
A tough one ... but I'd reluctantly sit Lynch there.
Can you see Sage Rosenfels eventually replacing Matt Schaub as the starting QB for the Houston Texans once he returns from his injury?
No way ... I was reading a report this week that Kubiak just isn't pleased with how Sage handles the "emotions" of starting.
Happy Thanskgiving! Picked up INDYS D for week 15 vs Detroit and DALLAS D for week 16 vs Baltimore? Your thoughts?
I like both ideas, and a good idea looking ahead so you don't have to fight it out on the waiver wire. The rest of you might consider doing the same ... I could see Dallas' D really rounding into shape here down the stretch. One more, guys.
Coles or Keller? PPR w/ 1.5 for TE.
Keller it is for me in that setup. I think he could be (he almost already is) Favre's go-to guy down the stretch.
PLEASE, NEED HELP!!!...need WR help badly and LT has been terrible. trade LT for LJ and welker?
All righty, last one ... Tough to do, but if you need the help that bad, yeah, I'd do that. I like both LJ and Welker a lot.
All right, guys. I have to get back. More than 2,000 questions here in an hour -- nicely done, all! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and a fantastic Week 13. We really have a lot to be thankful for, and let's hope Kurt Warner gives me even more!
