Thoughts on Branch, Bruce, and Hester as good plays the next two weeks?
Well, Bruce has had three straight solid efforts and Shaun Hill definitely looks his way first and foremost. Branch wasn't too bad on Thanksgiving, before yesterday's solid game. And Hester is likely the streakiest of the three, so I trust him the least.Going forward, I like Branch's matchups the next couple weeks (STL, NYJ), but Bruce should be fine as well (especially in Week 16 vs. STL).
Hi KeithI heard about your loss in your 8 team (should've been 6 team) League..Sorry Man!!! Would I be crazy to start both Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush at RB this week with my other options being Fargas, benson, Mcgahee and Cadillac? PPR League
Normally, I'm strong against starting both backs, but none of your other backs are very strong options or face tough defenses. Keep an eye on what Cadillac's role is tonight and see if he gives you any confidence he'll get a bunch of touches vs. Atlanta. Otherwise, it's hard to argue against starting both guys. Fargas would be the back I'd most likely start, if I had to pick from those four, by the way.And hey, fantasy football involves plenty of good fortune, so losing by one point happens! Thanks.
Ethics question: I'm up 2 pts with Antonio Bryant left to play tonight. Should I take him out before the unthinkable happens, like a couple fumbles, and guarantee victory?
I don't consider myself the ethics police and while I'm definitely a fan of playing the game "the right way," as in putting in a full lineup, your goal is to win your game and you've done that, so if you can beat your opponent with one fewer player, there's not much he/she can say, really.
This coming from someone who lost a game by fractions of a point because of Lance Moore's INT a couple weeks ago, so I can see why you'd do that.
Is Slaton now a must start, even against the Tenn. D.?
I think he is, Debbie, unless you've got two other really good backs with great matchups. Slaton ran for 116 vs. Tennessee early in the season and even though 50 of it came on one run, he's explosive like that and it's hard to take him out the way he's running the ball right now.
I started both hillis and jacobs this week. Is there any RB from Denver worth having now and should I be looking for Ward/Bradshaw this week?
I still haven't caught word on Jacobs' status, but it's certainly possible the Giants play it safe with him.As far as the Broncos ... amazing, isn't it? Tatum Bell would appear to be the guy to get, since Selvin Young just can't seem to get back on the field. And while he may not be a great option, he certainly should get a great percentage of the rushing touches, right?
Hey Keith, I'm tired of Chris Cooley doing nothing for my team. With the playoffs next week should I pick up Keller or Carlson?
Problem is, this week the Skins get the Bengals, so they should get their offense going. Tight ends are very tough to call week-to-week, but despite Keller's poor game yesterday, I think he's one of the top fantasy TEs in the game right now and he should bounce back this week.
Big win for me yesterday Keith. This week I have the #1 team. Who do I play LJ Smith, Shockey or Olsen? Also pick 1 RB out of Bush, Jacobs and Dunn? I also have Bradshaw. Do I wait it out if Jacobs is a GTD?
Shockey has been most consistent and the Bears haven't stopped many teams from throwing this season. I'd go with him.And it'll be hard to wait on Jacobs, if you wanted to play Bush, so you'll have to decide by Thursday. Right now, I'd have to say Bush is the safer play since he's always a threat to score and Jacobs' status is up in the air.
Cooley disappeared yesterday. As you said, he's got Cinn next week. But would Owen Daniels have a better chance to score against Tenn?
Players have a tendency to disappear against the Ravens sometimes, so I haven't lost faith in him as a solid yardage option at TE. The lack of TDs, though, I can't explain. I still like Cooley over Daniels in Week 15.
what kind of rerturn game do you think clifton smith will have tonight?
The Panthers have done a nice job against both kicks and punts this season, especially if you take away the one punt return TD they've allowed. I wouldn't expect a great night.
Must make all the right choices in Week 15 to upset the #1 seed (who has beat me twice already this season). Do I go with Thigpen, who torched San Diego for 25 points in Week 10, or Rodgers, who has a friendly matchup against the Jags?
Thigpen has cooled some recently. Just not as sharp as he was a few weeks ago. I like Rodgers against a Jags team that is really scuffling ... allowing almost 27 points per over the last 4 games.
how will jeff garcia perform tonight against the carolina defense?
I think Garcia's a what-you-see-is-what-you-get guy. Not likely to put up huge numbers, but won't kill you, either. I can see him with 200 yards and a TD.
Keith,Is Brees a must start at Chicago or would you go with Cassel at Oakland.
I'd go with Brees. Much safer pick in general, and the Bears pass D has been very forgiving.
What are you thinking Deangelo's numbers look like tonight?
Well, as long as the Panthers stay in the game early - - unlike the first meeting when they were out of it in the first quarter - - I think he can be productive, but not spectacular. I'm guessing 65 yards and maybe a score.

Not willing to say that, Sam. But it sure did take people a while to believe in Walter this season.
According to Portis, he's fine. Think we see him on the practice field this week and more importantly, back to his regular role on Sunday?
Well, DGA, he has played every week, but I'm really concerned about the pounding he's taken this season. I think you'll really have to take a wait-and-see approach with him this season. Check out Stephania Bell's injury updates and we should know a lot more by Sunday about his very favorable matchup with Cincy.
Warner is an easy start vs. Minny this week. But does he still seem like a guarantee in New England in the middle of December?
Well, it's not like Arizona can run the ball, so I'd say yes, unless you happen to have another QB with a crazy-good matchup and visibility is extremely low in Foxborough. Things could change by then, if for some reason, Whisenhunt has a change of heart about resting guys. We'll see.
Alright - just give me some peace of mind. I need Bryant to kick for 4 more points than Mushin puts up tonight. Do I have a shot? Blink once if yes. Twice if no.

Am I crazy to think about playing Addai and Rhodes as my two RBs next week? ONE of them has to have a big game against DET, right? My other backs are Slaton and Portis. I have to play two.
You would think the Colts should pile up yardage against Detroit, but Addai has been so underwhelming and sharing touches, I think I'd rather take a guess on one of them (Addai if his shoulder checks out OK ... and his knee, too ... you get the point). If Portis is truly deemed good to go, though, I think it would be hard not to start him, although I'm not optimistic about him being considered healthy.
Hey Keith, can you trust Sammy Morris against the awful Oakland run defense or should I go safer and start Marshan Lynch vs the Jets next week ?
Funny thing is, I'm not sure Lynch is all that safe. The Jets do a great job against the run and shut Lynch down to 16 yards in the first meeting. Morris, while not getting as many touches as Lynch, may actually be a better bet to dent the end zone.
Am i getting a TD tonight? If not, how many yards am I putting up?
Well, he's been awful good lately, even though he hasn't scored since October. I don't expect another 100-yard game, but I'll say he finds the end zone once.

I think those first three are pretty nasty, as long as Portis really is OK. And if he's not, then I'd sub in Jackson, since he's a better TD threat than Dunn.

Pretty unlikely, since he's not a big TD scorer, Logan. But good luck, you never know.
Keith, I'm planning to start Marshawn Lynch and Thomas Jones this week. However, I'm worried the Jets could go ahead early and take Lynch out of the equation. What are your thoughts on starting 2 RBs that are going head to head?
I don't mind starting RBs who play against each other. As long as the teams stick with the run, they won't affect each other. My concern in this matchup is that the Bills will have trouble moving the ball on the ground.

It's a little bit of a gamble, when looking at the overall numbers, but the matchup certainly favors Branch. Walter was shut down in the first meeting with Tennessee, if that makes you feel any better?
Keeper input please... Who will be the 1 best keeper: Forte, LT, Hillis, McFadden, Brees, and Boldin (non PPR, scoring = 1pt for 25 rush, 25 rec., 75 pass yards)
I would lean toward LT bouncing back next season over Forte ... but if you're getting 6 points per each TD, Brees should score the most points in that system still.
Hey Keith, Will Tampa's defense get me alot of fantasy points tonight?
I don't expect them to dominate as much as they did in the first meeting, when they picked off Delhomme 3 times, but Jake hasn't thrown a pick in any of his past three games, and to me that means he's due to toss one. I don't expect a high-scoring game, so that should help, too. Not a huge night, in my mind, but a decent one.
Keith, do you see J. Stew getting significant carries tonight?
Williams has run so well, they've gone away from the true split of carries they had going there for a while. However, if Williams isn't able to get it going tonight, I think they'll see if Stewart is the better answer. I don't think the confidence has wavered in Stewart, just that Williams has been that good recently. I think Stewart gets 10 touches, though.
With 3 weeks left will McFadden ever get in the grove?
He's capable, but I don't see it, really. Maybe in Week 16 vs. Houston, but I'm not planning on playing him unless injuries strike.
I lost in one of my leagues because I started the titans def over the colts def, well in another league I started the colts def and won next week I have to choose between the colts def against detroit or the eagles against the browns, which is better, keep riding the colts?
Always tough with the defenses, since TDs can swing the balance, like yesterday's score by the Colts. I think the Browns are likely to score fewer points than the Lions next week, and I think the Eagles will put pressure on Ken Dorsey and that can't be good for the Browns. I'd side with the Eagles in that one. I hope you make the right choice.
Keith! Need you to answer this like we all need Rosie O'Donnell to disappear into obscurity (fat chance)! My playoff game comes down to the IDP slot...need 5 to stay alive! Better chance at 5 pts tonight....Panthers LB Thomas Davis or Bucs CB Ronde Barber? (Solo tackles, pass defl's, anything to do with fumble = 1 PT; safey, sacks, INT's = 2 PTS; TD = 6)
Barber's obviously the better big-play threat here, but if you only need 5 points and solo tackles are worth one each, Davis has had 5+ tackles in 8 of his 12 games, so he's the safer option.

I think tonight's game is fascinating. Even though it may not be exciting offensively, I think this is an old throwback game to two physical teams that know one another well. I expect it to be low-scoring and very hard-hitting. I love the playoff race we have heading into the final weeks of the season.
Bump in the road for the Giants or is a repeat super Bowl victory now in jeopardy?
I think it's more of a bump in the road. It's very tough in this league to play with the same intensity every week. You have to remember that the Eagles are backed into a corner. It's a must-win situation every week. I do think they actually did miss Plaxico Burress, because the other receivers did not step up. This could become a problem down the stretch, especially on third down in the red zone. I don't buy the distractions were a factor. They had an off day versus a good team--this team is too mature to let one game affect them.
Are the Cowboys in grave danger of missing the postseason?
I haven't looked at all the scenarios yet, but they are in trouble because they have some brutal games upcoming. They play a motivated Giants team that is more dangerous coming off a loss. In all likelihood, at least one and maybe two wild card teams will come from the NFC South. The Cowboys will still have competition from teams out of the NFC North. There's probably four or five teams vying for two spots. Having said that, I thought they may have played their best DEFENSIVE game of the year against the Steelers, and were I a Cowboys fan, even though I don't like the idea of losing, I would feel somewhat positive about yesterday with an attitude that, if we can get in, we're gonna be dangerous in January. The problem is, that needs to happen.
It's obviously moot, but fun to talk about: If the 49ers had been coached by Singletary and had been playing Shaun Hill from the get go, I say they are 8-5 right now. They're a completely different team than the September / October version.
They seem to be a more disciplined team, more run-oriented, but it's hard to project how they would have been had he been the head coach at the beginning of the season. I think what they are not is a team that will force you to play your A-game to win. That is a tribute to Singletary and the players. But I don't know if they are talented enough to be an 8-5 team. They are heading in the right direction.
Hi Gary,Whats your thoughts on The Dolphins miraculous turnaround?
When I watched them play, they are the most disciplined and maybe fundamentally-sound team I've seen. If I'm not mistaken, they are the best team in the league in terms of not turning over the football. That can be attributed to coaching the little things. I also see a coaching staff that seems to know exactly what its team's strengths and weaknesses are, and they devise a gameplan that fits that.
They're not overly talented, but they play it close to the vest and it looks like they almost count on the opposition to make a mistake which they can exploit. They are by no means a powerhouse, but this is a great example of what a strong organization and good coaching can do.
It's a very safe approach, and if I'm not mistaken, they've only turned the ball over ten times.
Is tonight the night that Jeff Garcia's unbeaten streak against the Carolina Panthers comes to an end?
This is a tough game to predict because I think both teams are evenly-matched and physical. Both obviously know one another real well. I think the difference in this game is Garcia over Delhomme. I think Garcia will make just-enough more plays to keep drives alive and give the Bucs a chance. The film I've watched on Delhomme the past month, I've seen that he has been making some mistakes, and his accuracy isn't very good. It's tough in this division to win on the road. But I just think the Bucs will win tonight.
It used to seem like Romo threw 3 TDs for every pick. Now it's 3 picks for every TD. What happened to him?
I just broke him down on film, and were you watching the game casually, it looked like he made bad decisions, and it looked like he did not have good communication with his receivers. But as I watched the film more closely, the Cowboys seemed to break down in little areas, and a lot of it had to do with pass protection by the tackles. Some of Romo's bad throws were because Harrison and Woodley beat the Dallas tackles to the inside. He had to get rid of the ball early. On one play, where Witten ran a seam route and never turned around, it looked like a miscommunication, but actually Crayton was supposed to come inside with Witten clearing out. Had that happened, it could have been a big play. This offense has a false sense of security because of Romo's ability to extend the play with his feet, but they also seem to have little breakdowns that lead to some of those bad plays, whether it's lack of attention to detail, or just being a little sloppy. They just don't quite hit on all cylinders.
Gary, what's the deal with the Jets? They've lost two in a row to below average teams. Are the Jets underperforming, or was the win over Tennessee a fluke and they are just overrated?
I think the Jets are a good team that has underachieved the past few weeks. All of a sudden, they seem to have no vertical passing game, and they are not stretching the field at all. They've only averaged 3.6 yards per pass yesterday. That lack of a deep passing game allows defenses to squeeze the run game, and their rushes yesterday were scarce. I don't like to criticize coaches, but it looks to me like this is a conservative gameplan right now that doesn't test defenses. With an innovative QB like Brett Favre, I just don't see any of that.
i think my man steve smith is going to show up he has great speed who is going matched up with ronde barber who has trouble in the past against him and jake delhomme is jst too good what do u think?
That's a marquee matchup in this game. I will say that Ronde Barber is playing at a Pro Bowl level, but he does not have the speed to turn and run with Smith if he is in single coverage, which probably won't happen. Smith is the only guy Delhomme seems to be looking at. The Bucs will have the luxury of probably sliding a safety to help over the top, versus Barber, who will try to follow Smith inside to make that safety help even more apparent. But if TB can take Smith out of the game, they will have huge problems going to somebody else in the passing game. But this is not as one-sided as you think in terms of Smith over Barber.
We're going down to the wire, and I see a lot of conference races that are wide-open. Somebody will be left out that we think is a good team. It'll be a fun three weeks.

Kent, There is a decetn chance of thst happening. If all win two of their last three games (which could happen) - there is a good chance of three teams coming out of the South. NFC North (just one) unless the Boys win two of three their out anf forget the west !!

Steiny , Yes I do think he is one of the better Backup ball carriers in the league but not sure he is a Michael Turner type player that could turn a team around.

Lynn, That's a great question- I would go with the Philly "D" against a Cleveland offense that is in bigger trouble than the Lions offense-

Nahum ( Via Mobile) - MAJOR changes need to take play for the LIONS to have a chance next year - It will likely take at least two or three years as their situation is worse than what the Falcons were last year.

I don't know if the short week has much to do with it, but Hester's definitely got a shot at 100 yards against that D. They don't have anyone who can match up with him in man.That contract sure looks dumb now, though.

G-Men. The difficult thing about a question like this is that even if the Giants only make the Super Bowl, say, 30% of the time if they played the playoffs 10,000 times, they can still be the most likely candidate to win and you could still be wrong 70% of the time. The playoffs are a tricky, tricky business.

I think if the Panthers lose, some members of the media will blame Bridges' arrest for distracting the team, and if they win, no one will say a word about it. My feeling is that this stuff tends to not really bother teams -- you don't have time to be distracted.I don't see a huge game out of the Panthers rushing attack, no. They had 40 yards rushing the first time around. I think they'll get more than 40, but if they get to 100 yards, I think it'd be a surprise.

The last time Angelo waded into the free agent pool, he ended up giving Muhsin Muhammad far too much for a career year. I think he's going to be afraid to do that again. I think he's hurting. I've broken down a bunch of Panthers games on film this year and he's just not accurate -- he's consistently overthrowing guys. Whether that's mechanical or an injury (or both) I can't say.

Well, because he was being paid to be the world's greatest returner, and now he's being taken off return duty. It's not that hard to find a receiver with Hester's talents split out.

Underrated would be Nnamdi Asomugha. Mike Shanahan said something to the effect of Asomugha being the most underrated player he'd ever seen in Shanahan's career in the league. It wouldn't really be logical to get rid of Vince Young, since he still has a good amount of trade value and I imagine the cap hit would be prohibitive. I'd expect them to see what Young does this offseason -- if he commits to the game like he hasn't in previous years, they might franchise Collins and let them compete in training camp. Remember, they have oodles of cap space.

Hi Bill! I haven't seen Aqib Talib mentioned much when talking about the top defensive rookies. How would you evaluate his play for the Bucs so far this season? Does he have a chance to be a top-level CB in the future?
I think he's done some really good work -- Tampa's the best defense in the league in defending against the opposition's second wide receiver, and Talib's a huge portion of that. He's a great fit for their defense, and there's every reason to think that he should be a very good starting corner for them for the duration of his rookie contract.
Why do you/ and other analysts keep writing the Bucs off? They've been very consistent, and they destroyed Carolina last time yet, you see Carolina winning the division?

Collins' is having a good season, not a great one. He's completing 58 percent of his passes and averaging 6.5 yards an attempt with an 11:6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. That's decent, not otherworldly.

I would expect him to do even better against the Lions. As for the retirement question, I don't think I can say with any sort of reliability. He's certainly lost a step, but Harrison is an intensely personal man who doesn't often let his teammates know what's going on with him, let alone the media.

Do you really think the Burress scenario is going to haunt the Giants for the remainder of the season?
I don't know if the scenario haunted them as much as the actual act of not having him on the field haunted them. The Eagles didn't feel the need to double any of the Giants' wide receivers, which allowed to them push a safety up into the box on running plays and play a lot of either Cover-0 (no safety deep) or Cover-1 (one safety deep) coverage. The Giants were able to exploit that on the Hixon drop, but it also really stifled their running game. You're going to see teams incorporate a lot more of that style of coverage into the gameplan against the Giants over the next few weeks and into the playoffs. I think the best way for the Giants to counteract it would be to use more of Sinorice Moss and Mario Manningham in the slot as deep threats.

Should the Browns trade Braylon Edwards this off-season?
No. They should see whether Joe Jurevicius is going to be healthy enough to play, make a decision on him one way or another in February, and if he's not going to be healthy, sign a possession receiver to fill that role. Eric Parker comes to mind as someone who's missed what amounts to two years with injuries, but is freely available talent and will play for the veteran's minimum. I'd talk to Dallas about acquiring Patrick Crayton, who's out of favor there and exactly what this team needs. That'll push Edwards into a role that fits him better and he'll look more like the receiver he was last year.

I don't see why not. Schottenheimer's won everywhere he went. He's got a history there and (I believe) he wants to coach again. He's got something to prove. If you're worried about the playoffs, well, look at the Browns' history since they came back to the league. Worry about getting there first before you start complaining about Schottenheimer's playoff record.Maybe 40%? I think he's the best candidate for the job.

Given the Titan's overall conservative play calling and the receivers' inability to get separation and their tendency to drop passes, I'd say Collins is having more than a "decent" season. Not great, but more than good enough to be the Titans' starting QB again next season. At not yet 36, he's younger than Favre, Warner or Garcia -- so he could lead Tennessee to another terrific season in 2009 (especially if they draft a WR who can make plays down the field). I've never thought Vince Young was going to be much of an NFL QB and he's done nothing to change my mind about making him the starter again.

Teams tend to get more conservative as they approach the playoffs.. Weather often dictates more of a power running game (for outdoor teams) and coaches tend to coach not to loose rather than to win.

Carolos, right now I think the Ravens are the single most dangerous team in the NFL. That status changes as things go along, but they have an astonishing defense and an offense that's coming around. Love their power running game.

Yeah, they like to run a lot of power stuff with tight ends, but they could really use a downfield target. The big question is what they do for quarterback in the long term. I'm not a big VY believer. more because of the spread offense factor than anything else.

I have a real problem with that. I don't know Barber's circumstances, but he's played through a lot of pain with a very dynamic style, and if there's a player who I'd believe couldn't play by default, it'd be him.
