Hi, everyone. Hope all is well. Let's get at it.
IS USCS DEFENSE REALLY THAT GOOD? OR IS IT LACK OF GOOD QBS IN THE PAC10? CAN PENN ST FIND THEIR WEAKNESS?
I think USC's defense is really that good. But I also think that Penn State is better than the nation has given them credit for. I think that the Nittany Lions are paying for the sins of the Buckeyes the last two years.
With Florida OC Dan Mullen being announced as the new Miss. State coach next year, how much of an effect will it have on the Gators in the championship game? Also, should he stay at FLorida until the game is over?
Everyone likes to point at the problems that Mark Richt had when he tried to juggle being the new Georgia coach with being the Florida State offensive coordinator in the 2001 Orange Bowl. But Bo Pelini straddled two jobs a year ago. It can be done. And given that he has a two-year starter at quarterback -- give me a minute, I'll come up with his name -- I think the transition should be OK.
Ivan, I know at times you've mentioned your preference for tough, 3 yards and a pile of dust football. Can you say that the spread offense's characterization as "finesse" is misleading considering the SEC championship games? That was one of the most physical, tough, grind-it-out games I've seen, by both teams. There wasn't much finesse in that game, just great players executing and playing tough for both teams.
All I've ever meant was the rise of the spread shouldn't diminish the old-school ways. I think the Wildcat offense and the Georgia Tech offense have proven that the old stuff can be effective. I agree with you. That game Saturday is on my short list of the best games I've ever seen, and the best-played games I've ever seen.
Why are the BCS games being pushed farther down the schedule?? Remember when the championship game would take place on the 2nd and that would be that...what gives?
The BCS games loved into January because the networks want to put them in prime time. Fox split them up on the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 8th because it didn't want to disturb or schedule against the NFL on the 3rd/4th.
Ivan, gotta help a brother out when I can... That was the 2000 Orange Bowl, not the 2001, when Oklahoma beat Florida State.
2000 season, 2001 Orange Bowl. We're saying the same thing.
Will the BCS Championship game ever be played in a cold weather stadium, thus rewarding teams who are required to perform there throughout the regular season.
Not in the current bowl structure, no.
If Penn State beats USC do they and the rest of the PAC 10 take the same kind of credibility hit that Penn State and the Big 10 took for Ohio State's failures?
If the Pac-10 had credibility, USC wouldn't be No. 5, would it?
Ivan: Wouldn't Turner Gill be a complete mis-match for Auburn? Obviously a good, rising coach but in with that tough crowd at Auburn? That sure doesn't sound like a match to me.
I think he's got the personality and religious values that a lot of Auburn fans would appreciate. But three years as a head coach would mean that Gill would be a risk.
Not many people realize the ACC is the top rated conference according to Jeff Sagarin?s ratings. While I don?t agree that they are the best football conference, do you think the strength of the conference will dissuade some of the criticism about a four loss team representing the ACC in the BCS?
No, I don't. It should dissuade it, but I don't think it will. The league will have to change its reputation one win at a time.
Ivan, which bowl game do think we'll see the most points OSU/Oregon, Tulsa/Ball St., TCU/Boise St., etc?
Tulsa and Ball State. I think that Oklahoma State and Oregon can play a little more defense.
Should the BCS add the Cotton Bowl so that we don't have the same site have 2 BCS bowl games in a week..Why not have the 4 BCS games and the NC all at different sites?
The four bowls that had the BCS games before they changed the system a few years ago claimed that they couldn't make money if they didn't have the championship game every four years. I don't know whether that's an accurate depiction of their finances or not. But that's what the bowl people say.
do you think auburn would pay $5 million to florida state to get jimbo fisher?
Ivan, why do the "standards" for who deserves the Heisman change from year to year? Last year, it was stats, as Tebow had unreal numbers. This year, Bradford has the unreal numbers but everyone wants to talk about "leadership" or some other quality. What, Bradford didn't lead his team to 702 points?
All voting standards are subjective. People choose the player that they think is the best. It's not anymore complicated that that.
I know realistically, no major bowl game will be played in the north in the forseeable future, but there's no reason the National Championship game can't be played in a cold climate. I'm pretty sure the 'NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP' would draw plenty of viewers and travellers regardless of climate, ala the Super Bowl.
But the current hosts wouldn't be too happy.
So who wins the Heisman? Bradford, Tebow or McCoy?
I'm voting for Bradford. I will explain my vote in the Heisman Index that posts today or tomorrow.
Are you surprised by Dan Mullen accepting the Miss. St. head coaching job? Is that a good fit?
He must really want to be a head coach. There is a lot of work to do there.
Ivan, What are the keys to the game for Boise State against TCU? Thanks.
I am fired up for this game. I want to see how freshman qb Kellen Moore handles an experienced Horned Frog defense.
Some prognosticators have said that when the new stadium is complete, that the Cotton Bowl may be added to the BCS and the Orange bowl dropped. What would happen to the ACC/Big East bowl commitments if that were to happen?
I think the Cotton Bowl will be added and there will be a five-bowl rotation for the championship game with no "double hosting."
Ivan, be sure to check out our new board game 'Bowl Championship Series'. It's an exact replica of 'Monopoly'. The game is based on 'fairness' and the 'best interests' of student athletes. Fans should love it, right?
What's great about that is that the main character in Monopoly is Mr. Moneybags, isn't he?
Hey Ivan, 2 quesitons. 1) Didn't the SEC get exposed as a touch overrated going 1-3 against the woeful ACC on rivalry Saturday? 2) Don't you think Beano would be a great cabinet member?
The SEC is down this year. There's no question. I see Beano as Ambassador to Morocco, if only because he has seen Casablanca 50 times.
Ivan, Great to hear your take on the national championship. It's not that I don't think other journalists have to think that OU deserves to be there rather than Texas (I don't think there's a big conspiracy), it's just that I get tired of not hearing OU's based arguments presented by many of the ESPN folks. They seem to maximize the effects of Texas' wins, minimize the effects of their loss, while maximizing the effects of Oklahoma's losses, while minimizing the effects of their wins (e.g., Tech lost so bad to OU because they were a fluke--not because OU is that good).
Congrats -- you won and you won't have to hear that any more. It's like winning twice.
Quick question. Shouldn't the fact that Bradford was still in games late (after victory had already been clinched) be taken into account during the vote? I can remember many times seeing Brantly in for the Gators when Tebow could have still been throwing touchdowns. He could have thrown 5 more against the Citadel if they hadn't pulled him in the early 2nd.
As I said, everyone will judge. No one penalized Tebow for his monopoly on the ball last season.

Ivan, two related questions. Do you think there should be a two-team-per-conference limit on the BCS?, and, Who has the bigger BCS beef? Undefeated Boise St. or 1-loss Texas Tech playing in the toughest division of the toughest conference?
The two-team limit is a political reality because the conference want to make sure to spread the wealth. I think Boise State hsa the bigger beef.
What are the chances that the national championship title be shared by Texas and Oklahoma? What happens if Texas blows Ohio State but Florida beats OU?
If you look at the polls, I just don't think that would happen.
Ivan, you were for ESPN. I didn't think you were ALLOWED to vote for Sam Bradford for the Heisman.
Don't tell anyone.
Do you think Florida is really good as everyone say they are? They played in a weak SEC. Do you think they have what it take to play against a top team from the big 12?
Absolutely. Florida is fast and tough and well-coached.
Who do you see as coach of the year and why?
Saban. He took a team barely in the top 25 at the beginning of the season and drove it to the brink of the BCS Championship Game.
Ivan, how can Michigan State pull the upset on Georgia in the Capital One Bowl? Would beating Georgia give Michigan State a lot of momentum heading into recruiting season?
You have to think that Javon Ringer could use the month-long respite between games. Michigan State wins that game the way that they won the others. A lot of Ringer and just enough passing to keep the defense honest.
How does Boise State have any beef with that schedule (114th SOS)? My flag football team went undefeated, maybe we should get a BCS bowl bid too.
I'm taking Boise minus 243 1/2.
Colt,Tebow, and Bradford back next year. Are there any more records left for them to break?
How great is it that they will come back? I can't imagine that anything like that has happened since the years right after World War II.
Chick Fil A Bowl: LSU vs. Georgia Tech. Who are you taking, and why?
Georgia Tech. LSU hasn't played the kind of disciplined defense it takes to stop that Tech option. The Tigers are capable of it. But they have looked as if they have a bad case of Year-Afteritis.
Ivan, Is Skip staying at ECU or going to SU??
No one knows what Syracuse is going to do. I heard that SU wants to make a decision soon, but I think it's funny that SU has been looking the longest.
All right, guys. Got Heisman stuff to write. Talk to you next week.
