Chat with Bill Williamson

ameer (irvington, nj)

do you see herm coming back to k.c. & who will be the gm?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

To be honest, I don't see Ewards coming back. Whenever there is a new general manager, He usually brings in his own guy. I think that will be the casei n Kansas City.

Josh, DC

Hey Bill, first off, great job on the blog all year. Anyways, here's my question. If the Broncos end up losing out and giving the Chargers the division, do you see this as one of the biggest choke jobs ever in the NFL? Would that effect Shanahan's contract for life?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

It would be a big choke job. But because San Diego was favoried and both teams would be 8-8 I don't think it would go down as one of the great choke jobs. Shanahan would get a pass and it would be deserved. His team is very young and very injuured. So getting to the playoffs was unexpected.

Ryan (Denver)

Which AFC west player has surprised you the most this year with their play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Great question, Ryan. I'd say Eddie Royal. No one expected him to be the receiver he has quickly become.

Matt (Raleigh, NC)

How afraid do you think the Broncos are of potentially facing the Chargers for a playoff spot in two weeks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I think Denver would be very, very uptight next week if it had to play San Diego for all the marbles. it would nto be a very meet Christmas in Denver under those circumstances.

David (Upland, CA)

Is it too early to call Jamarcus Russel a bust or can we blame his problems on the lack of talent around him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Too early. Look, he hasn't bee good, but he has no receivers and his tackles are weak. So he really hasn't had much of a chance to shine.

Rich (DEL)

You covered the Vikings...good decision TJack over Gus?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

It's always good to see what the young guy can do. Minensota has to decide whether he is the future. We know what Gus is. He's a vetran journeyman. Let's see what he kid can do.

Jonathan, (Aurora,CO)

Which AFC West player has been the most disappointing this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Another good quesiton. Javon Walker. Hands down.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

What are your thoughts on P. Rivers not making the Pro Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I thought he got snubbed. But he is going to go. He's the top alternate. Brett Favre rarely goes to the game. Rivers will be there.

Steiny (NYC)

What were the Bills doing letting J.P. Losman throw it on second down on the play that blew it?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Dick Jauron was blowing his job that's what he was doing.

Ryan (Denver)

Bigger snub: Ryan Clady or P. Rivers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Clady because he wasn't even an alternate. Kid has been awesome and he was totally snubbed. Bad deal.

Steiny (NYC)

What were your thoughts on Matt Cassel's big day Sunday after the loss of his father earlier in the week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Very special.

Will J (Portland, OR)

How do you think San Diego will play against Tampa Bay? Tampa's defense has beem pretty good all year. I think a lot depends on if Griese plays again also.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

It looks like Garcia. They are a much better team with Garcia. I think the Chargers will have their hands full.

Jim Fassell

Is it in poor taste for me to continue to lobby for the Oakland job?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Maybe a little.

john (nyc)

How can Clady not even be an alternate for the probowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I know, brutal.

Steiny (NYC)

How big of a blow is it to the Vikings to lose run-stopper DT Pat Williams for 2-6 weeks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

It's not good. He set the tone for the run defense. It's a big loss.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

Rivers should be in the Pro Bowl over Favre and Culter. Look at how well Culter's line has played versus Rivers O-line. Culter has all day to throw. Both Defenses have been terrible, so that's a wash.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I think both Cutler and Rivers deserve to go.

Andy (Millersburg, Pa)

Bill great work as usual. Whats up with Champ? Did he actually tear his groin? I thought it was reported to be a strain of the groin. He is very needed right now.

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Yes, he tore it from bone. I know, ouch. I talked to Champ the other day. He said we will for sure be reayd for the playoffs if Denver makes it. He wants to play at least one more time beofre then, though. He could play this weekend.

Steiny (NYC)

Do you think the Rams are just saying that Jim Haslett is going to be a coaching candidate for next season just to be nice, or do you think that he is actually on their radar?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I hear he could be a candidate in Oakland.

David (Upland, CA)

Bill, Raider fans are probably the most loyal in the NFL but it finally seems like the Raider Nation has turned on Al Davis. Will he finally accept responsibility for the past 6 seasons and let someone else run the team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

That will never happen. Al is the Raiders, like it or not.

Jonathan, (Aurora,CO)

We all know Shannahan is doing a media blackout in the locker room before the game but how long do you give it before some of the Broncos players know whats going on down in Tampa?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Fascinating, isn't it. I would think if Tampa Bay wins, It would get out. It's going to be a fun day.

Kyle (Woodbridge, VA)

Albert Haynesworth is going to be on the free agent market. With Denver severely lacking at the DT position, do you see them making a serious run at Haynesworth? What about Julius Peppers on the end? He'd be a great complement to Elvis Dumervil/Jarvis Moss and would give the Broncos the pass rush they desperately need and have missed this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I could see Denver making a play for Hayneworth.

BigDog (KC)

Hi Bill, will the frigid weather on Sunday have much of an impact on the Dolphins?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

I don't think they will be thrilled by it. I could affect them, sure.

Ryan (Denver)

Big NFL SUnday coming up! What game are you looking forward to more (other than the AFC west games of course) Pittsburgh and Tennessee or The G-men and Carloina?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

Hate to be a bore, but honestly I am focused on the four games involving the teams I cover.

Norm (Cleveland)

Any chance Asomugha forces a trade this offseason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Soemthing could break here. Lechler i sa free agent as well. I could see Oakland dealing Nnamdi. They better get a lt tfor him. The truth is, he is the best corner in the league but he hans't helped Oakland win. So maybe they should do a Jared Allen like trade.

Joe (Cincinnati)

WHo will be gone next year in Cincy? Ocho or TJ

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

85

Jack, (Cheyenne, WY)

How many running backs does Denver bring to camp next summer. Its obviously going to be a hard decision.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I think Torain, Hillis, Alrdige, Pope and a rookie.

MATT (Illinois)

Where do you think 85 will end up?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I wouldn't shocked if he came to Oakland.

Kyle (PA)

I thought Asomugha was a free agent this offseason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

He can be franchised.

Jonathan, (Aurora,CO)

Leading rusher for the Broncos this weekend is.....?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

P.J. Pope,. He is the hardest runner they have right now.

Philip Rivers (SD)

If and when Favre backs out of the Pro Bowl do you see there being tension between Cutler and I at the Pro Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

The only warmth will be coming from the Hawaii skies.

Eugene (Richmond)

I don't like your chat room Mr. Bill...I just don't.

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

OK, sir.

Adam (Columbus, OH)

Do you see TJ Houshmanzadeh getting a big offer from the West? Or possibly even Braylon Edwards with his troubles with the fans of late?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

The only team in the diviison that really needs a top receiver is Oakland.

Scott (Indy)

Should the rest of the guys in suspension limbo be getting worried about injuries? Seems like P. Williams could just be the tip of the bad karma iceburg...

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Interesting point, Scott.

Chris, (Stl,Mo)

Do you think it would be better for the Raiders to go after a wr in the draft rather than 85?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

They have other needs in the draft as well like OL and DL.

Steiny (NYC)

Is Vincent Jackson the San Diego Chargers best WR?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I think so. I really like him. He is a clutch player,

Brian (San Diego, CA)

Bill, AJ Smith is considered a draft wizard and is not a big player in free agency. What position do you think is #1 on his board, and do you think he'll extend Merriman?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I think he will look at OL., DL, LB, S, RB. I think this season's disaster showed him that Merriman is needed.

Jordan (San Jose)

Is Michael Bush a member of the Raiders next season? I love the kid, but he's rotting away and playing a position he doesn't want to play.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I have a feeling he will be traded.

Sam (Lawrence, KS)

Is it a joke that 2 AFC West QBs would be in the Pro Bowl in that scenario? I think the NFL should pretend like the west divisions of each conference didn't exist, which i guess would compromise your job. Maybe they could play their own toilet bowl playoff?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Yeah, that wouldn't be ideal for me or my friend, Mike Sando. Any other ideas, Sam?

Brett (LA)

Any news on if Clady practiced today?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Not yet. I will post it on the blog when I get the info.

CC (Atlanta)

Will DeAngelo Hall ever be considered a top CB again? It's hard to believe how far his reputation has sunk.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

A top CB? I don't think so. He is just sort of a guy and Oakland found that out.

Jack(Charlotte,NC)

Bill, do you think Champ Bailey has any chance playing this sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Mike Shanahan said Wednesday that he thinks Bailey has a chance based on the way he moved in practice. He will have to test himself Friday of Saturday before playing.

CC (Atlanta)

Ya think Denver regrets trading D. Foxworth for a bag o' balls? That guy is playing very well here in ATL.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I think they should regret it. You think he couldn't have helped Denver with Bailey out two months? One of the few questionable moves that team made this year.

Luke (Aurora, CO.).

Do you think Ryan Clady has a shot at being All-Pro this season? In a chat yesterday, Chris Mortensen said he was going to vote for him as an All-Pro.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

That would be great if he amde All-Pro but not the Pro Bowl.

RAY gordon reid farmville va 23909

question to bill WIILLIAMSON AT 2.50 PM hi bill colts or jags tonight

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Gotta go with the Colts.

Will J (Portland, OR)

Will Asomugha be lined up against Andre Johnson almost the entire game? He went for 200 yds, last week.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

if he's not, there's something wrong.

Matt (Philadelphia)

What is Herman Edwards' future in Kansas City? Is there one?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I think his future in Kansas CIty is a home game against Miami and then a road game at Cincinnati.

Jonathan, (Aurora,CO)

So are you staying in the frosty confines of Invesco or heading down to Tampa this week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Denver.

CC (Atlanta)

What's the consensus on Glenn Dorsey's play this yr?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

In a word: underwhelming. He needs to opck it up next season. I expected an impact player. It hans't happened yet.

The Raider Nation (worldwide)

There's always something wrong in Oakland!

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

I was thinking that as I typed those words.

Scott (Huntington Beach, CA)

Hey Bill. Great work!!! Who do you have next week if Denver loses this week and SD wins in Tampa?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

If it gets to that point, I think the home team would be very, very difficult to beat. Denver needs to to take care of business Sunday if it wants to win the division.

Scott (Huntington Beach, CA)

How do you think Cutler and Rivers will be towards eachother if they are both at the Pro Bowl? SHould be interesting

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Very interesting.

ameer (irvington, nj)

who will be the gm in kc?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I think they want Scott Pioli. Whether they get him is another story.

Danny (San Diego, CA)

Can we petition the NFL to allow the Chargers to wear their Powder blues for the Broncos game LOL

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

That would be pretty sweet

Hernan (Castle Rock, CO)

How did you like Woodyard at SS last week? It seems like the defensive schemes had him more like a 4th linebacker. Do you think we'll see it again Sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

It depends on the matchups. He needs to be on the field. He is a playmaker.

Tom (Chicago)

Doesn't everyone want Pioli? Detroit, Cleveland, KC, and so on?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Yep. Of those three jobs you just mentioned, Kansas City might be the best situation.

Scott (CA)

Wouldn't Buster Davis for Michael Bush make sense for both teams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

San Diego wanted Bush. I think Davis needs one more year before San Diego gives up on him. He was making a few strides before he was injured and lost for the season.

Mike (Oakland, CA)

Do you think the Raiders will try to make a run at Crabtree from Texas Tech? Al Davis loves big fast receivers so Crabtree fits the bill.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I wouldn't be suprised at all.

Scott (Huntington Beach, CA)

Should M. Shannahan be considered for Coach of the Year considdering all the injuries if they win the divison and finish 10-6? Thanks Bill

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Yeah, I think so but Mike Smith might take it.

Mical (Austin)

What would you do to the pro bowl to make the game more relevant?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Nothing. It's the Pro Bowl it is what it is. It's a fun deal at the end of the season.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Wow, that was a quick hour. Fun times. Enjoy a big, big weekend in the AFC West.
