Chat with Bill Williamson

Mark, San Diego

If Chargers win this week, who do you like in the following... Colts or the home team?

Bill Williamson
  (4:08 PM)

Hey guys, sorry. Had some computer issues.

Bill Williamson
  (4:09 PM)

Anyway, I do think San Diego would be a tough out in the playoffs. But it has to get there first.

Brian (Lake Worth, FL)

Is Jamarcus the long term answer in Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (4:10 PM)

We don'tknow that answer yet. It'll likely take another year. He was solid against Houston but he has not been consistent this season.

Jud (San Lorenzo, CA)

Happy olidays, Bill. Any chance in h*** that the Raiders coaching situation turns out well??

Bill Williamson
  (4:11 PM)

There is always a chance but ...

fred michigan

Whos on the hot seat with the lost shahanan or turner?

Bill Williamson
  (4:12 PM)

From what I hear neither. But, I'll tell you, neither coach is going to be very popular in their respective town if they lose this game.

Erik, Coeur d' Alene, ID

If the Broncos lose they will move up in the draft about ten spots what do you think the best pick for the team would be.

Bill Williamson
  (4:14 PM)

Denver needs to try to get one of the good middle linebackers or Taylor Mays from USC. The Broncos need an impact player on defense.

Kevin (Costa Rica)

Hey Bill, Every Chiefs fan wants to know...what are the chances we get Pioli for GM?

Bill Williamson
  (4:15 PM)

It's early but I hear the Chiefs like Pioli. And I also hear he'd be open to leaving New England for the right situation. So, yes, i do think it is a possibility.

Brian (Lake Worth, FL)

What does LJ's future look like in KC? Since he signed his big contract, he hasn't seemed to be the same RB.

Bill Williamson
  (4:17 PM)

I've been hearing since his issues in mie leadership mid-season that he will likely be gone. I don't think the leadership change in Kansas City changes Johnson's future.

Andy, Denver CO

If Jay Cutler plays his best game, I think there is no doubt Denver can win this game if they can score enough. Do you agree?

Bill Williamson
  (4:18 PM)

That's the only way Denver can win. Cutler has to be the best player on the field and he can't make any mistakes.

scot rochester n.y.

any inside info on what player movement may go on in oakland? What do you think they will do in the draft?

Bill Williamson
  (4:19 PM)

Not yet, but some of those high-dollar signees such as Javon Walker could be in trouble. In the draft, Oakland will look at WR, OL for starters.

Ryan (San Diego)

The Chargers offense is red hot. They just went against a top ranked pass defense and owned them. How in the world do the broncos have a chance at stopping them? Especially since it is a night game in which the Chargers ALWAYS play well

Bill Williamson
  (4:22 PM)

I don't know how in the world Denver's defense stops San Diego's offense to be honest.

Andrew (San Luis Obispo)

I looked it up and Philip Rivers is only 1 TD away from tying Dan Fouts for most TD passes in a season. Assuming Rivers has an average game (based on this season) against the Broncos, will he have had the greatest season statistically by a Chargers QB ever?

Bill Williamson
  (4:22 PM)

I think so. Pretty amazing considering Fouts was there all those years, right?

Brian (Lake Worth, FL)

Is Shawne Merriman on track for returning in 2009?

Bill Williamson
  (4:23 PM)

From what I hear, yes.

Bobby (San Diego, CA)

If they Chargers were to not only make it in, but make a NY Giants type run to the super bowl, Where do you think that would rank in all time cinderella stories concidering they started 0-2, then 4-8 etc?

Bill Williamson
  (4:24 PM)

Can't buy the Cinderella theory because this team was expected to be a Super Bowl contender. But it would be one of the great all-time late-season turnarounds. But again, let's see if they get to the playoffs first.

Brian (Lake Worth, FL)

Louder stadium (when things are going well): Arrowhead or Invesco?

Bill Williamson
  (4:25 PM)

Arrowhead.

Victor, San Diego CA

Do you think that SD is clicking right now, or getting lucky? Or were they just unlucky from the start and now's there's a "regression to the mean" so to speak?

Bill Williamson
  (4:26 PM)

The are clicking. They were awesome in Tampa Bay.

Mike, (Denver)

Do you think Rivers will throw at Champ Bailey?

Bill Williamson
  (4:27 PM)

He threw at Nnamdi Asomugha a few weeks ago so I expect him to test Bailey, especially since Bailey isn't 100 percent healthy from his torn groin injury he suffered Oct. 20 at New England.

Rick (Long Island, NY)

Bill, very disappointed it's come down to this, but I do think with a couple pieces on defense and a couple healthy RB's, Denver can make a serious run next year, your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (4:29 PM)

For sure. Look, if Denver doesn't wn Sunday it will be bad because it had such a big lead in the division. But this wasn't supposed to be a playoff team. With afew defensive pieces and some better luck health wise, this team could be a force in 2009.

Mike (dearborn MI)

Do u expect Marshall to own cromattie again on sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (4:31 PM)

I expect San Diego to try to make adjustments so Marshall doesn't burn it for 18 catches again.

Ivan, San Diego

Which is the more accurate reflection on Norv Turner - Slow starts in September or undefeated in December?

Bill Williamson
  (4:32 PM)

I think they both tell a story, but it's always good to finish strong.

Curt (Reno, NV)

If Nnamdi departs the Raiders, which team(s) do you see making the biggest play for him?

Bill Williamson
  (4:34 PM)

Ther eowuld probably be a lot. I think Denver would try to be in the mix. Maybe New Orleans and New England, too.

Sam B (Grass Valley,CA)

Any chance that Cable keeps the job if he beats Chucky Gruden this weakend?

Bill Williamson
  (4:34 PM)

It certainly wouldn't hurt his chances.

Bill - Cartersville, Ga

Would the Chiefs had been better off going 0-16 and vying for worst team ever with the Lions? House Cleaning is about 10 years overdue when Schottenheimer lost his power struggle with King Carl Peterson.

Bill Williamson
  (4:36 PM)

Nobody is better off going 0-16. That is history you want no part of.

Adam (Reno, ENVY)

Rivers Should be in the Pro Bowl, right???

Bill Williamson
  (4:36 PM)

No question about it.

Rob (Denver)

Is Sproles the ultimate X-Factor in this game? He killed the Broncos last outing? How will they try to stop him?

Bill Williamson
  (4:38 PM)

Nice point, Rob. Sproles got the Chargers back in the game in Week 2 and Denver's coverage unit hasn't been great much of the season.

Erik Ca

Who do you think the Raiders will draft?

Bill Williamson
  (4:39 PM)

Study the receivers and OTs. There is a lot of good OTs out there. if Oakland loses Sunday, it could be in line to take Michael Crabtree.

Curt (Reno, NV)

With Shanahan in Denver, Turner in San Diego, is Cable in Kansas City to much of a stretch if Al doesn?t bring him back????

Bill Williamson
  (4:39 PM)

Big stretch.

Jeff, Cheyenne WY

If the Broncos lose will they look for another defensive coordinator, and if so who?

Bill Williamson
  (4:40 PM)

I don't think so. There were many injuires on a unit that wasn't good to start with. Some younssters got better under Slowik. I see him getting another year.

joe (florida)

u think the broncos go after julius peppers in the offseason

Bill Williamson
  (4:41 PM)

I think they may go after Albert Haynesworth harder.

Nathan - San Diego, CA

Any chance Phillip Rivers could be a late addition to the Pro Bowl Roster?

Bill Williamson
  (4:43 PM)

Count on it. He is the first alternate so if Manning, Cutler or Favre bails out, he's in. Favre almost always bails out. Expect Rivers to be in Hawaii as he deserves to be.

Matt - San Diego, CA

Do you think the Chargers will get any pressure on Cutler? If so, can we turn that pressure into turnovers?

Bill Williamson
  (4:44 PM)

The Chargers will need to pressure Cutler. if he makes mistakes, Denver will have no chance.

Rob (Denver)

Merry Christmas Eve Bill--thank you for taking the time. Is it just me, or is 8.5 points a lot for the Chargers to be favored by? Their D is as porous as Denver's right?

Bill Williamson
  (4:47 PM)

Thanks, Rob, and to you and yours. I think the spread is big because of the momentum swing and the fact that is it a home game for the Chargers.

Cody, San Diego

Just how serious is the beef between Cutler and Rivers and will it affect their performances?

Bill Williamson
  (4:49 PM)

Anytime they show it on the field or talk about it, like Cutler has, it is fairly serious. But I don't think it will have a factor in the game.

mike (denver)

Who u rooting for on sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (4:50 PM)

Doesn't matter to me. I'm covering the playoffs either way. Whoever wins will make for a good story. And that's what I root for most, a good story.

joey- colts fan

Who should we be more scared of broncos or chargers? And why?

Bill Williamson
  (4:51 PM)

Probably the Chargers because they have played the Colts tougher than Denver has in recent meetings.

Steve (Oakland, Ca)

Will the Raiders be a playoff team next year?

Bill Williamson
  (4:52 PM)

Depends on what happens in the opffseason. I'll tell you this: they are not close right now.

Jeff (San Diego)

Sunday night's game will be won in the trenches I would think. Denver has 4 sacks in their last 7 games...what can they do to put more pressure on Rivers?

Bill Williamson
  (4:53 PM)

Dumervil will need a big game. On the flip side, Denver's offensive line hasn't given up many sacks this season.

Joe (Denver)

Since u said the chargers are a better matchup for the colts it looks like your rooting for the Chargers Correct?

Bill Williamson
  (4:54 PM)

Why? Not rooting for anyone.

Zeby (Corinth,Tx)

The Chiefs are better than they played this year, right?

Bill Williamson
  (4:55 PM)

They are better than 2-13, I do believe.

Andy, boulder CO

will cutler and rivers exchange heated words on sunday night?

Zeby (Corinth,Tx)

Who would pose a bigger threat to make a big playoff run? Or are they in and right back out?

Bill Williamson
  (4:56 PM)

At this point, San Diego is playing better. But if Denver wins, it will be feeling very good and it could make some noise.

Bill Williamson
  (4:56 PM)

Rob (Denver)

What happened to Cromartie this year? The Merriman factor? He's basically invisible this season.

Bill Williamson
  (4:57 PM)

I think you nailed it, Rob. The absence of Merriman has really hurt Cromartie.

Jake (Syracuse)

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS Playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (4:58 PM)

G-O-O-D L-U-C-K

Andy, Denver CO

Thanks for your blogs all season, and happy holidays. Do you think the S.D. Denver rivalry will grow and be around in 5 years? What team do you think has the most potential for the future?

Bill Williamson
  (4:59 PM)

Thanks and to you too. This rivalry went to another level this season. It will be hot for several years.

Ryan (Denver)

Is stokley done after this year?

Bill Williamson
  (5:00 PM)

He's still udner contract.

George (Denver)

Other than Champ and maybe DJ Williams is there anybody really worth keeping on the Broncos D?

Bill Williamson
  (5:01 PM)

Barrett, Bly, Woodyard, Thomas, Dumervil.

Bill Williamson
  (5:02 PM)

Hey guys, great hour. I want to say Merry Christmas to everyone and enjoy what will be a great Sunday night in the AFC West. Take care, BW.
