Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:02 AM)

Hi kids. Chris is out today so it's me, your friendly neighborhood TMR here. It's my bithrday so sucking up can only help. Let's get to ti and as always, all subjects answered....

League Champ, RI

Sweet victory! Onto keepers...picking 4 out of Brees, DeAngelo, Slaton, Forte and Colston?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:03 AM)

I throw back Colston. Those are some awesome keepers and as much as I like Colston, WR are by far the easiest to find on waiver wire, in draft, etc. With your QB and RB taken care of you'll be able to concentrate on just piling up WR...

Mark Logan Muncie,Indiana

What 3 backs should i keep?Barber,Bush,Addai or C.Johnson

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:05 AM)

I probably throw back Bush unless it's a PPR league. Second straight year that Bush has gotten hurt, Saints are pass first and the emergence of Pierre Thomas and Lance Moore will cut into Bush's value. Still like him a lot but Addai only has the injury question - Rhodes is not a long term real threat to him

Steve (Joliet, IL)

Matthew, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you go out and have some fun today!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:06 AM)

I fully intend to. I'm sure there will be a picture of me on some blog tomorrow morrning. If not, I didn't do it right...

Jordan, Providence, RI

Happy B-day TMR. This may sound moronic, but P. Manning's passes just don't look crisp anymore and I am wondering about his keeper value for 2009 and 2010. Do you think he is a sell high guy this off-season or should I ride him into the ground like I did Marshall Faulk?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:10 AM)

It doesn't sound moronic and for what it's worth, I did an initial top 10 at QB in my TRUM yesterday... And had Peyton BEHIND Brees, Brady, Romo and Warner. Harrison's best days are behind him, Gonzalez has yet to be consistent, Wayne took a step back this year... he's still a stud but the differance btw him and say a Rivers/Cutler/Rogers is not a lot. For you specifically... depends on who else you could keep. I'd have no problem keeping him but if you had a stud RB and could only keep one... much rather have, say Michael Turner than him.

Dave (Tampa)

Happy Birthday, Kid! What will you be doing during your down time?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:12 AM)

Sleeping. Going warm places. Looking for love. All good things. I'll be in Vegas at some point, back home to LA for a week at some point and I'll probably try to weasel my way down to the Super Bowl...

Cody (Portland,Maine)

If the Redskins made it to the superbowl next year and surprisinglty won it who do you think the super bowl MVP would be?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:13 AM)

Probably Portis although if they make it to the Super Bowl it would only be because Jason Campbell has made amazing strides in Zorn's offense and the O-Line has remained stable, productive and healthy.

Mike (Indy)

Do you think you could get me a ticket to the Super Bowl?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:14 AM)

You bet. Done.

Dan (San Jose)

Look no further!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:14 AM)

HAHAHA!

ML (NC)

Eddie Royal a top-20 WR next year (PPR)?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:15 AM)

I think he is. Certainly right around there. Look, Cutler is only getting better and the only concern is the # of weapons Den has (Marshall and Sheffler)... but he is certainly top 25. He's legit.

wayne VA BCh

what FFL stud this year will have the greatest fall next year? I'll name it the Jamal Lewis award

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:19 AM)

Great question. And I'll say DeAngelo Williams. Look, I think he's great. But do you really see 20 touchdowns again? Especially with a healthy Jonathan Stweart there? If he gets 1400 and 13 scores next year that will still be a great year... but it'll be still be 3oo yards and 7 scores less than he did this year, you know? My guess is DeAngelo goes in the first round next year - possibly top 5 - and is a second round value when all is said and done. He's just so high that he has to fall.

JESSICA SIMPSON (LA/DALLAS)

MR. TMR I HAD A BAD DAY YESTERDAY AND AN EVEN HARDER TIME TODAY. CAN I GET YOUR NUMBER WHEN YOU GO TO VEGAS?

Rebecca (St Louis)

Hi TMR! What would you like for your birthday?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:20 AM)

I think I may have just gotten it, Rebecca. That has to be the real Jessica Simpson, right?

Bryan (Pittsburgh)

HAPPY BDAY! keeper question.. I have S. Jax and Slaton. I have some other guys to use as trade bait too. Would you trade Slaton to get a back that might be a better and if so who would you target?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:21 AM)

Yes and Michael Turner. I love Slaton but if you're looking for another potential "Jamal Lewis" type, I could see it being him - small back, lotta carries this year, etc etc...

Dave (Tampa)

Rebecca (St. Louis) = Dan (San Jose)

Barry(Saints)

Who's your top Qb nest year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:22 AM)

Brees and I don't think it's close.

Kool-Aid Man (OH, YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!)

How many FF leagues did you win this year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:23 AM)

I won one. Playoffs in 4, top 4 in scoring in all 6

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:31 AM)

To be honest... I get this question a lot. And I have to be honest. I love playing. Don't get me wrong. But the thrill I get - the thing I care most about - are my picks. Did I get my picks right? When I nail a pick - like I was very high in the pre-season on Forte, Chris Johnson and much earlier than anyone else... I get excited. When I blow a pick - like I thought Turner would be okay but not a stud and I was wrong on Addai, to name a few... I get bummed. This is going to sound really cocky and I don't mean it to be but just being honest... Once I ended up with this job it was this amazing high. And there's no league I could win - no matter how competitive or intense or big prize money - that can compete with being the fantasy guy at ESPN, you know? It just pales... I didn't make one trade in any league this year, I went weeks without making pick-ups... it's just not my priority. Doing research, writing, broadcasting - that's my priority. ESPN doesn't care how many leagues I win and frankly you shouldn;t either. All they care about (and you should too) is how well my information, analysis and research help you win.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:33 AM)

Every time I see a website advertising how many "expert" titles they have won I'm like... who cares? How does that help ME? Tell me how many other people you've helped win - THAT's something to brag about. And the thing I enjoy the most is when I get an email or chat question from someone who won and I helped along the way. Ive gotten a lot of those over the years...

Dave (Tampa)

That diatribe took you about 10 minutes. I suggest a typing class during vacation. Just sayin'.

Spivey (Atl)

Matt Ryan a top 10 QB next year ?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:33 AM)

No, just outside top 10... ATL still a run first team

Erick (Seattle, WA)

Hey, Happy Birthday Bro!!

Kevin (ATL)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TMR! How old are you? I'll download the podcast that many times for your present. Keeping Turner, need 1 more keeper of these 2. DeAngelo Williams, Chris Johnson. Im really tormented over this one.

Stoob (stoobtown)

Happy Birthday Guy!!! Man you're ugly. But I digress- do you see THomas Jones reverting back to 2007 form next year? He's my only RB worth keeping, but I think the Jets will once again be the Jets (aka miserable).

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:34 AM)

I disagree. They still have Richardson, Faneca, Woodey, Feguson, Mangold, etc blocking... And if Brett doesn;t return they'll need to rely on ground game even more.

Doc (TN)

Happy B-day! What is the proper way to gloat after winnin our initial work fantasy league? I'm thinking about showing up at our next managers' meeting with one of those fake wrestling belts over my shoulder.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:35 AM)

Either that or a giant trophy around your neck like Flavor Flav

Billy (NYC)

Fantasy playoffs, who's your top RB's for the weekend?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:39 AM)

This weekend I rank them: Turner vs AZ ; LT vs INDY ; Peterson vs PHI ; Westbrook vs MIN ; McClain vs MIA ; Addai vs SD ; Brown vs BALT ; James vs ATL ; McGahee ; Rhodes ; Norwood ; Ricky

Brian (Madison)

When can we expect some baseball ranks?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:40 AM)

Prob by mid FEB

Joe(NY)

Where do you think Willy Taveras should be drafted now that it seems he will be playing everyday. 50 steals is 50 steals.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:41 AM)

I agree - I like him - my guess is 6th to 7th round....

Chris (Memphis, TN)

happy, happy Bday TMR!! i owe you a BIG Man-to-Man chest bump for helping me win and dominate (12-1) one of my leagues. Question: how much do you take into account 2009 Strength of Schedule? By the end of tomorrow I will have plotted all 32 teams' schedules for 2009 (minus exact dates, of course). How much value is having that sched when deciding whom to draft?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:42 AM)

Thanks. And absolutely none. You just never know. At the beginning of last year, JAX looked like a tough match-up, you know? CHI would be tough to pass against. Same for OAK. Etc etc

Ryan (PA)

Pretty strange fantasy football season. A lot of first rounders didn't play well. Can you give me your top 5 next season and maybe your top 10? Aside from AP going 1st I am lost.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:42 AM)

I posted my top 10 at each position in my TRUM today

Kelli (NJ)

Many happy returns of the day! Thanks for all the player info and the many laughs, can't wait till next year.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:42 AM)

Thanks Kelli.

Dave (Tampa)

Wow, Chris. Since you got 2009 planning out of the way already, how about fixing the economy!

Everyone loves a good rant: miami, FL

Hey Matt, why would work on your d-day man? Who do you think you are? Company Woman Amanda? Anyway, can we officially put Andy Reid on the fantasy Sh&! list? How do you not use your #1 player 20 + times a game, especially at the goal line? Lost my championship because of him an 80 yard TD called back from Grant and a TD called off on Bowe TWICE. Also, I get 5 keepers and this is who I'm considering: I have Forte, Chris Johnson, Kurt Warner, Boldin, Westbrook, Eddie Royal, Dwayne Bowe, Sean Hill, Jamarcus Russel, Zach Miller and Lee Evans. The only obvious choices seem to be forte and CJ, need 3 more. Thanks, Ryan

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:44 AM)

That's brutal dude. My condolences. You keep Warner, Boldin and Fitz along with CJ and Forte. It's not close.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:44 AM)

I meant Westbrook

Luke(DC)

Are you buying Chris Davis as a 7th-8th rounder?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:45 AM)

A little high but I do like him a lot. he hit in the minors - the power is legit - and as long as he plays in Texas...

Steven (tulsa)

who are some people who are set up for a rebound year next year after stinking it up or being injured this year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:46 AM)

Well, Jonathan Stweart and Darren McFadden both jump out at me... Addai should be better... The Bengals as a whole - TJ Houshmanzadeh is a lot better than this

Brian (Madison)

Thanks for the help this year. But why do you have Boldin over Andre Johnson??? What is with your hate for Andre Johnson?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:48 AM)

Well I have Andre at #4 overall in WR so I'm not sure I'd call it "hate." Call it mad respect for Boldin who is a red zone machine. Both have injury issues but with Andre he played much worse on the road this year than at home (look it up) so there's that concern, healthy QB issues (it's a different team with Sage) ; the emergence of Slaton, Walter and Daniels...That's why

Seam(Jericho)

How will Marion Barber do next year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:49 AM)

That's a great question... I'm worried about Felix and Tashard taking some touches and let's see what happens with coaching in Dallas.... think he's a high second round pick

Chuck

Does ESPN have a fantasy playoff league? Are you a company man?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:50 AM)

Yes. Gridiron Playoff Challenge. you can play for free. And Tristan has a great preview of playoff fantasy. Check it out here: http://games.espn.go.com/nflpc/frontpage and thanks for the lay-up question. You too are a company man.

Luke (NY)

DeAngelo seems like an easy choice for most disappointing 2009. What about TO? He'll probably go as a top 5 WR because some owner will reach. I'd rather have Williams as a RB1 than TO as a WR1.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:51 AM)

I think that's fair but you have to throw out the four games that Brad Johnson played when looking at TO's stats. But you'll notice I don;'t have him in my top 10 WR

matt florida

hey, podcast today or no? i need to know so i can either download 3 times or just take off.... also, kershaw or price...u have to pick one

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:52 AM)

Yes, really fun wrap up podcast today celebrating my brithday, making fun of me - the board, the best my pre-season predictions...

Brian (Madison)

What did Pod-Nader get you for your bitrthday? And to the guy before who called you ugly- You can't call someone ugly on their birthday no matter how true it is.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:52 AM)

Thanks. I think.

Steiny (NYC)

Did you know that you share a birthday with Sean Payton, former NFL QB Jay Fiedler, Richie Sexson, Jack Wilson, Jude Law and Theo Epstein?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:53 AM)

I did not. I also share one with Mary Tyler Moore and Ted Danson.

Paul (New Jersey)

HBD!! Who do you see in the Super Bowl?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:53 AM)

I'm saying CAR-TEN but it's wide-open. I'm just praying it's not INDY-NYG because I can't take two weeks of Manning Bowl talk

Dave (Tampa)

TMR, When you were playing for real, did you prefer the daily grind of the fantasy baseball season, or fantasy football?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:54 AM)

Baseball is my favorite to play - more strategy, less luck and schedule dependent. Football is my favorite to write about and analzye however.

Marsh (StL)

I read your rankings for next year in your TRUM. Can I really keep Chris Johnson over LT next year? I mean, we are talking about LT here.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:55 AM)

Yes. Johnson is a monster. LT needs to get a better fullback in the off-season and some new linemen....and he DOES have a lot of wear and tear

Joe (MD)

Matt, thanks for all the help this year (won 2 leagues), and now that the magical fantasy football season is over, tell me you and Nate are still doing Fantasy Focus podcasts daily. (This easy set-up is my birthday gift to you, Mr. Company Man)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:55 AM)

aw, shucks.

Steiny (NYC)

Hi Matthew, I do not have any questions today. Just wanted to say Happy Birthday and thank you for answering all of my questions in your chats this year. I really appreciated all of your insight and it helped me win the championship in my league. Happy Holidays to you and your family and be well.

Mike, Edmonton

Happy B-day TMR. Who would you keep out of Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson. PPR league and no max on how long you can keep him for. Thanks

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:56 AM)

Wow. I'd keep Calvin. He's that special. But i don't think you can screw it up.

Rich (Chippewa Falls, WI)

Mathew Berry, Happy Birthday sir. I have followed your advice all year long and it helped lead me to my league championship. Thanks a bunch. However, I went against EVERYONE'S advice and started Tatum Bell based on a crazy hunch yesterday. Lucky guess... Does any Denver RB have value in the early rounds next season?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:56 AM)

impressive. Congrats. And no, I don't trust any DEN RB. Never have, never will.

Immy (DC)

What the best cure for the fantasy football blues?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:57 AM)

The Fantasy Focus Podcast. Download and listen. Gridiron Playoff Challenge. And - seriously trust me here - play Streak for the Cash. It's reallty really addicting.

Dan (NY)

Do you ever wish to venture outside of just fantasy sports and contribute a regular column to ESPN?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:58 AM)

Sometimes.... But I really love fantasy. It's my bread and butter and anything I ever did would be as a side thing for fun, never as a replacement.

Justin (NY, NY)

Warner at 3? Stud WRs outweigh his injury concerns?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (11:59 AM)

Correct. He stayed healthier this year than Romo. And Brady. Among others...

TC (Cols, OH)

We redraft for our playoffs. I have the 4th & 5th pick in a snake order. Who do I have to have? Who's a sleeper late? The key is picking guys that get at least two games. (we redraft for the Superbowl)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:03 PM)

Well, I really like all the wildcard teams. INDY, BALT, ATL and PHI all could (and should) win... a sleeper late might be McGahee - he'll get work... same for Rhodes. And Michael Jenkins has outproduced Roddy in yardage the last three weeks. Sproles could get a TD vs INDY very easily. Trying to think deep for you. But in the first round, I go with two RB's... you saw my rankings earlier in the chat.... I say CAR and TEN are your Super Bowl teams so you have to like CJ and DeAngelo. And Jacobs needs to be a top 4 guy as well.

Dave (Tampa)

Thanks for keeping it all in perspective, TMR. Have a great vacation.

Kristie (N. Jersey)

Hey Matthew, when will you start helping us for next year draft with write-up and podcasts.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:05 PM)

LOL. Can I go on vacation first? Nate and I will do our next podcast (after today) on Jan 5 and then go weekly until baseball starts in mid/late Feb, where we will start up daily again. For FB - we will have stuff up in June.

Mike, Baltimore, Maryland

Are you all doing a postseason player ranking and if so, when? My draft is tomorrow night. Thanks

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:05 PM)

No, sorry...

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:07 PM)

Ok gang... that's it for me. Thanks for dropping by!
