Chat with ESPN Radio's Scott Van Pelt

ESPNRadio.com
  (6:37 PM)

Scott will be here to chat at 12:30 ET. Get your questions in now and join us then!

ESPNRadio.com
  (12:29 PM)

Scott is ready to roll....I'll hand it over.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:30 PM)

I'm here. Whattya got?

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Do you see any of the Ravens big free agents (Lewis, Suggs or Scott) following Rex Ryan to the Jets?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:31 PM)

After hearing Bischotti speak yesterday about Ray, I can't fathom him being anywhere but Baltimore. After Suggs playing with one arm, I can't see Baltimore letting him go. I wouldn't hazard a guess on Scott, I just don't know...but I guess my answer is no.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

SVP: Anne Hathaway is a big fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. You should have your people contact her people so she can be on your show.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:32 PM)

How does she feel about middle-aged bald sportscasters? We should hook that up.

ron (renton, wa.)

do you think Tampa Bay moved a little to quick in picking their new head coach???

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:33 PM)

It's a copycat league. The comparisons are to Tomlin. If they felt like he was the next Tomlin, then I understand why they did it, but using Tomlin as a measuring stick is a pretty challenging set of expectations.

Dan (Buffalo, NY)

SVP, Impressive win for the Heels last night. Are they still the team to beat despite the two losses?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:35 PM)

Yes. Absolutely they are. I look at this way: Get to the Final Four first...then it's a coinflip proposition. I'm as convinced that they can win four games as I am about anyone. The Celtics had a rough stretch, too. You catch their act the last two games? Carolina is the same type of thing.

SprungOnSports (Long Island)

Who do you like in the Big East right now?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:37 PM)

I like Pitt and Louisville. The game they played last weekend was pretty compelling. I like Williams for Louisville a lot. I like the Blair-Young combo for Pitt a lot. I know Marquette hasn't lost yet, I need to see them play either of those two teams before I'm prepared to make them the team.

Josh (Pittsburgh)

SVP, who you got for your superbowl pick?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:38 PM)

We gotta wait til next week. Next Friday to be exact.

Kylie (Austin)

Do you think the Jets coach hire will increase or decrease Brett Favre's chances of returning for another season... or do you even care?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:39 PM)

I don't think the coaching hire has anything with what Favre is going to do. I think it's time.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Is there a big production planned for Carl's final Stone Cold Lock of the Century for the Week?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:40 PM)

I assume that the pyrotechnic budget will be bigger. With exploding strippers a possibility...yeah I think it's going to be big.

Phil (Chicago)

Never to early to talk Augusta. Is the Masters your favorite sporting event you cover all year?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:41 PM)

No, I like the British Open better. Augusta National is my favorite course to go to, but the Open Championship is my favorite even to cover.

Jeremy (New Orleans)

How doesn't Chris Paul get put into the top 3 for MVP after his effort this week? Game-winner on MLK (I went to the game hometown boy in Granger v. CP3 great ending) and last night without a servicable big, come on, man

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:41 PM)

Couldn't agree more. He's as good as anyone...I'm not sure what the issue is.

Dave (Augusta, GA)

Do you think Mike Vick deserves a second chance in the NFL?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:42 PM)

Of course. If the federal government and the state of Virginia feel he's paid his debt, then he should absolutely get a second chance to do whatever he wants to do. No matter what Ingrid Newkirk said (president of PETA).

Rachel (Ga)

I see Common is on the show today... If he's in studio, will u put him on the webcam? He's a hottie.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:43 PM)

I don't believe he's here...so that means you have to look at my bald head...not Common's. That's a loss for you Rachel.

Johnny (NYC)

Big fan of your show. With the new allegations (from his own brother!), is McGwire done as a hall of fame candidate?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:44 PM)

Does this "news" come as a surprise to anyone? I honestly think that in a generation, people will look back at this era with a different perspective. In my opinion, the guy is a Hall of Famer, so is Bonds, so is Clemens...they're all Hall of Famers.

Tony (Jersey)

How bout My Alma-Mater getting their first win in 51 tries last night, nice highlight...

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:45 PM)

I was happy for them...no team wants to be the punchline. And for a night at least they weren't.

DJ Cuse

Have you played Augusta and if so were you afraid to even take a divot?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:46 PM)

Yes, I did play there. I took divots, I took pictures like the proverbial tourist, didn't play well, but obviously the experience was as good as you'd imagine.

Dave (Augusta, GA)

Will Clemson ever win a game at North Carolina?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:47 PM)

It's one of the more inexplicable things in sports. And they shoulda won last year. One of these days, you have to think they will. But we've been saying "one of these days" for 54 years.

Glenn (Savannah)

How on Earth does Chad Pennington get passed up for the Pro Bowl 3 times? It's insane

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:48 PM)

The same way Philip Rivers did this year before Favre pulled out. Those votes are always kind of sketchy,

DJ Cuse

A bad round at Augusta is better then a good round at a public course. You are the man,

Slacker (@ work)

Scott, will you ever rock the skullet?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:50 PM)

No, it would be unfair to every other man if I took it to that level. Think of the consequences of that, Slacker. Women's eyes melting out of their skulls, not pretty.

Jason (Philly)

Scott, What should a baseball/football fan like myself do between now and spring training/march madness?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:51 PM)

College Hoops...look at last night. #1 upset on their home floor, Michigan St. upset on their home floor, the Highlanders of NJI...conference hoops will keep you occupied.

Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)

What player matchup are you most looking forward to in the Super Bowl?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:52 PM)

Kurt Warner against the entire Pittsburgh defense. If they can keep him clean, who knows.

Jason (Philly)

Darn, I thought you would say eat taco bell and watch TV

Mike Columbia

Can we give a shout out to Oklahoma State for scoring 95 in regulation and still losing? Maybe Teebone Pickens can donate some $ to buy some defense.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:54 PM)

I noticed that final score. There was no TV for that game that I could find which bummed me out. It's like the last game of pickup in the open gym...defense apparently optional.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

How about spending some time with the family? Is that something a baseball/football fan can do?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:54 PM)

Sure...WATCH college basketball WITH your family.

Pete (NC)

Scott tell Jason (Philly) to: 1. Watch the Phillies WS DVD 2. Get a 6 pack 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until March.

Anquan Boldin (upset)

I don't feel like I've gotten posted enough, so I'm outta here

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Have you finished off those free Wheat Thins yet?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:56 PM)

Long, long ago. There was some sort of a thin Triscuit that was made out of cheese that was eye-opening. We may need to revisit that debate.

Nate (Madison)

I agree, the last game in pickup basketball is always the worst. No defense and everyone just trying not to get hurt. It's the game that you get involved with and immediately your second guessing it.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Five minutes to show time SVP. Better head for the chair!

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:57 PM)

Oh woops...you're right. I'm out...talk to you in a few weeks. See you all after the Super Bowl!

ESPNRadio.com
  (12:58 PM)

Thanks again for chatting. Keep it going during the show...go to ESPNRadio.com and click on Tirico & Van Pelt. On today's show: John Clayton, Todd McShay, Bob Knight, and Michael Wilbon. Plus, Chase Daniel & Common the SVP Show at 3pm ET.

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:00 PM)

Woooo!!!! It's a high-energy chat Thursday! Keep listening to Tirico & Van Pelt and chat while you pretend to work, study, etc.

Kylie (Austin)

Apologies espnradio.com person... How are you today??

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:03 PM)

I am in high spirits. Thanks for asking. There is a blood donation drive on campus today, so I now have lots of free food. Hope you (and everyone else) are doing well.

Rickey Henderson (Hall of Fame)

SVP is great. ESPN Radio is great. But I am the greatest of all-time

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

wish to buy more college football talk, I'm allready going through withdrawal

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Kylie is always so friendly...

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:04 PM)

Everyone should be friendly. We are the world.

Anthony (Florida)

I once gave blood and I passed out lol

Kylie (Austin)

Free food is always choice... probably lots of cookies too. Nice! I'm doing very well, thank you.

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

I once watched someone give blood, and I passed out...

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:06 PM)

January is blood donation month or something along those lines. It was on one of the things I had to read. Therefore, all who are capable are encouraged to go out and give blood. There is always a need.

Daniel (San jose Ca)

do you think that the san jose sharks have a change tp won the 1st stanley cup this year

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

So! Think fast! What are the top 3 most winningest (as defined by national championships) sport teams in NCAA?

Anthony (Florida)

I normally don't watch hockey but I watched a sharks game this year and it was actually entertaining

Daniel (San jose Ca)

I am a sj sharls fan

Kylie (Austin)

I wouldn't have guessed that about you Daniel.

Anthony (Florida)

With the Warriors and the Raiders being so bad The Sharks must be the most popular team over there right?

Matt (home)

Iowa wrestling, stanford volleyball and i have no idea

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

1) Oklahoma State Wrestling, 2) Some east coast women's golf squad 3) Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling.

Tony Romo (Dallas)

SVP, you need to try to be a better leader.

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:10 PM)

So is everyone happy with the Cardinals-Steelers Super Bowl matchup? I know that's what everyone was picking before the season or playoffs started, so I hope no one is too disappointed.

Daniel (San jose Ca)

i am a san francisco Giants fan to i am from the bay area

woody (nyc)

hockey is a great game that doesnt get enough love

Anthony (Florida)

I remember hockey being popular what happened?

John Madden (home)

You know, I don't understand all of this talk about the Super Bowl. The team that wins is gonna be the team that scores the most points, because if you score more than the other guys you win. BOOM!

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

Hey, I had the Cards picked to win the Superbowl as a gag for my office pool, so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. There has been much Gloating. Now if only Sandiego had made it... somehow I don't think there will be 52 total points scored this superbowl...

Kylie (Austin)

Ha, yeah... If my team can't be in the Big Game then I just hope for an interesting SB match up... And I think this is. There are several story lines to play with.

Daniel (San jose Ca)

Go Steelers

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

ESPNRadio.com - everyone should be friendly, but we both know that is not the case...

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:14 PM)

Unfortunately, you are correct. But the behavior of others doesn't give us an excuse to be unfriendly. Philosophical chat! Wooo!!!!

I-Like-Iowa-Teams (52175)

That's a horrible Jon Madden impression, you didn't wander off topic at all, and got straight to the point.

Daniel (San jose Ca)

hi lisa i'M daniel

Anthony (Florida)

Gotta go for the underdog Go Cardinals

woody (nyc)

bettmann choked the sport it got to get the stigma of being candaian off it like i said it is a great game that doesnt get the love

Matt (home)

Its too bad Paul Newman died. He could've brought back hockey

woody (nyc)

in sports you have crazy winners go cards go larry fitz

Rob (Seattle)

Dude, SVP! Turn down your light! Your dome is glowing on the webcam.....

Ogre (Adams College)

Philosophical chat is for NERDS!

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

well hello daniel - hope you are enjoying the hockey season...

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

i guess Ogre didn't get the memo on being friendly

Kylie (Austin)

I like when SVP wears black... it's pretty hot. And be nice, Rob in Seattle.

Internet Tough Guy (Cyberspace)

My fists like to get friendly with people's faces.

Marcus (Houston TX)

Who did Jeff Kent play for? With that question I would say he is not a Hall of Famer.

Kylie (Austin)

Did anyone skip work to watch the inauguration??

Matt (home)

Obama should be impeached for not knowing his history. He said that 44 people have taken the oath of the Presidency. That isn't true. Only 43 have...

woody (nyc)

lol zo still have van gundy on your leg

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:26 PM)

Since it is relatively quiet, I'm going to once again encourage everyone to listen to today's NBA Today podcast. Just click Podcenter. So easy to do.

Chrissy (NY)

Matt the only reason you know that is because you heard it on Mike and mike

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Obama wants to take more money from me...my favorite new potential tax is addt'l taxes on homes larger than 2,400 sq ft...gee thanks....

Rob (Seattle)

I'm a fellow pastie white guy from the pacific northwest. I'm just trying to help SVP out

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

I do hope that his inauguration somehow sparks the economy though...

Kyle (Valparaiso)

OK this is an exercise in futility, another ESPN first.

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:30 PM)

Kyle, if you didn't keep sending in stuttering comments or offered something interesting to the chat, you will have your comments included. Cool out, homie. I do like when your school is in the NCAA Tournament, though.

Terry (CT)

Scott what do you think of the ultimate matchup of great offense vs The #1 defense I feel defense will prevail

Matt (home)

Not true at all Chrissy. I knew about it when I heard the words come out of Obamas mouth. Everyone knows Cleveland was Prez twice. And although I love Golic's "pot roast!" commercial, I've never taken the time to listen to him on the radio.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

That's a personal foul against Kyle (Valparaiso), whining about the chat, 15 yards and repeat 2nd down

Kyle (Valparaiso)

I stutter and my comments are not allowed, but SVP is OK? My point is that this is terrible radio, and who do you presume is my school?

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:35 PM)

I assume Valparaiso is. You are more than entitled to your own opinion (even though most of us here would disagree), but no one is forcing you to listen or join us.

woody (nyc)

clayton n mort the best reporters espn is lucky to have

Kylie (Austin)

Kyle- Why don't you go pee in someone else's Cheerios..

Mike (Ohio)

Kyle, just do what I do and join the chat but never tune into the radio show!

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:36 PM)

So much love in the chat today! Is it national bitterness day or some other holiday that Hallmark invented?

woody (nyc)

clayton is the best reporter on espn

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

i agree with Woody!

Terry (CT)

Why is Patriots nation all in an uproar because the instoppable force of nature Tom Brady has spoken. Cassel has proven that Brady although a good QB he is just a product of the system hes not what we think he was.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Kyle is definitely not friendly...

Kenny Mayne (ESPN)

Does this clown costume make me look fat?

Mike (Ohio)

No hatred here on my part. I am at work and can't listen, so I chat instead.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

llooovvveee Kenny Mayne

Kylie (Austin)

True that Lisa...

woody (nyc)

love your pat summit commerical

Kyle (Valparaiso)

Wrong, USNA, class of 89, and pissing in cheerios is the equivalent of chatting on this site.

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:40 PM)

Rimshot! Kyle will be here for the full hour, ladies and gentlemen. Please remember to tip your waiters and waitresses.

woody (nyc)

pats is a system they have 2 big cannons with moss and welker

Tom (Vienna, VA)

Does ESPN pay you enough to buy the Redskins from Snyder and save our franchise?

woody (nyc)

hey espnradio guy how can i get 1050 here in nyc to carry svp hour?

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:42 PM)

You would have to contact 1050 ESPN New York. By and large, the affiliates decide when to run local programming and when to air the national shows.

Kylie (Austin)

Ha! Kyle just got butt slammed. :)

Kyle (Valparaiso)

and don't forget to try the veal!

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:43 PM)

No, don't eat the veal! Who wants to eat veal? I'm not a member of PETA or anything like that, but even I find veal to be cruel.

Ryan Clark (at the Super Bowl)

I jacked up Wes Welker!

Stu Scott (ESPN)

Kyle needs a hug

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Thanks, Kyle. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday.

Kylie (Austin)

Wow... he totally doesn't belong in here. Don't take sports seriously?? Uh... hello?! This is ESPN.

woody (nyc)

todd mcshay the NFL RULES

Kylie (Austin)

Woody, wouldn't you want a WR to have a little more experience? Crabtree is nuts, but hasn't proven himself in the NFL yet... ya know?

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:48 PM)

Plus, the strategy of trading all of your draft picks for one player hasn't worked out too well in the past. Silly Mike Ditka.

Willis McGahee (hospital)

Where am I?

woody (nyc)

ESPNRadio.com- You have any big plans for the weekend??

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:53 PM)

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday. We're going to go to Home Depot. Yah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I don't know. I don't know if we'll have enough time. What about you? Does anyone have any big plans for this tragic football-free weekend?

woody (nyc)

more amanda on air plz

Matt (home)

So, exactly who are we chatting with here? ESPNRadio isn't a very good username, haha

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:54 PM)

I don't know what the policy is in terms of revealing our identities. If you've been here for the last couple of weeks, I've dropped a few hints here and there. It's like a regular Sherlock Holmes story.

Rob (Seattle)

Johnny (Scranton, PA)

Sorry I'm late. So what did I miss?

Matt (home)

I am unable to listen, so I have no clue. I'll just imagine you are Alison Becker and then all will be right in my world, hahaha

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:58 PM)

I am not female. Sorry to burst your bubble. Two-minute warning!

George (AL)

SVP thanks for getting my hooked on brickbreaker on my bberry

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:59 PM)

Hahaha. Well played, sir.

Matt (home)

That sound you heard was the air escaping from my bubble. Drats.

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:00 PM)

Alright, folks. It's been real, fun and real fun, but it's time for all of us to get back to work. Stay safe and take care of each other. We'll all chat again soon. Keep listening to Tirico & Van Pelt!
