In the wake of the franchise tag on Sproles, what is really going to happen in the offsaeson in your opinion. Are they really going to resign LT and if so would they still consider drafting Wells or Moreno? What about Maualuga? Lastly any chance of a major free agent addition: oh lets say, Peppers, Scott or Lewis?
First off thanks for joining me folks, I think Tomlinson will be re-signed and thus a running back will not be drafted in the early rounds. I see the Panthers going after a linebacker in the first round.
We have breaking news: ESPN's John Clayton just reported that Oakland cornerback Nnandi Asomugha has just agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with the Raiders. Wow.
Do you see Sixburgh becoming sevenburgh in the next two years?
They've shown us nothing to think they can't do it. This is a very strong franchise.
How close are the Raiders signing Niamdi Asomugha. Is it franchise tag or long term
It's a long-term deal -- three years.
And the media wants us to believe there is a troubled US economy?
Not in the Asomugha household.
This tag was just merely to prevent him from hitting the market. They want to get a long term deal done with him...6.6 million number is not in their plans
Yes, but Sproles could sit back and play for the tag and get his $6.6 million and worry about it next year. So the fact that San Diego gve the tag means they may be responsbile for the whole deal.
What are the chances that the Broncos trade for Peppers?
I don't think it's strong. I think Denver wntns to keep all of its draft picks.
Who's a better fit for the Broncos Orakpo or Malaluga?
Good question. Orakpo can pass the passer but I say the middle linebacker. Denver needs a beast to set the tone for the entire defense.
Bill, If the Raiders are able to reach a long-term deal with Asomugha (which would be awesome) does this free them up to go after any big names in free agency? And if so who wouold they be targeting? Thanks!
Steve, two things. One, the deal is done. Two, please be fair to everyone else and only send your question once. By flooding the inbox, no one else gets to get their questions in.
Since the Broncos are moving to a 3-4 scheme, what is the probability that the Broncos move to sign Haynesworth? Would he work as a NT?
He would fit but I'm hearing Debver may not get in on him and it would rather sign several defensive starters than one big-ticket item like Haynesworth. But we'll see.
I read on another site Nnamdi's deal is a 6yr dealthat can be voided by player after 2 yrs??
John Clayton, the best in the business, just told me it's a three-year deal.
Hey Bill!! How likely are the broncos to aquire a guy like Ogor Olshansky or Chris Caanty from Dallas? What would you think of such a move?
I think those two names could be possibilities. Both would fit in the new defense.
Have the Panthers already franchised Peppers?
Yes, within the hour. It's wild out there today, folks. I love it.
just saw that Nnamdi is the highest paid DB in the history of the league...deserving?
I think he's the best player now so yes he deserves it. Remember, next year there will be a new historic deal. Is Nnamdi betters than Sanders was? No, but Nnamdi is playing now and that's the way it it goes. In 10 years there will be a CB who is not as good as Nnamdi but who will dwarf Nnamdi's deal. That's the way it works.
Could you see the Broncos trying to trade up to get B.J. Raji if they don't think he's going to slide to them?
Maybe but there are so many other needs that Denver should get something it likes at No. 12.
Hey Bill, I know you're specialty is the NFL, but I'm watching ESPN News and they're talking about the NBA trade deadline being today...Is 'Franchise tag-day' and the 'NBA Trade deadline' always on the same day? Great day in sports!!! haha
Actually, I think it always is. Cool, huh.
Any rumors on who Raiders will select with the 7th pick overall?
WR or OT.
Bj Raji would be a perfect fit in Denver's new defense. He'd be a perfect nose tackle. Correct?
Yes, perfect, I do believe but he is rising up the draft boards and may even go to Seattle at No. 4.
Should Boss Bailey be part of the Denver defensive purge, or give him a chance in the new scheme? I know he isn't that much against the cap, but the more available money for quality players, the better.
I think he deserves a chance to stay. The only problem with Boss is he gets hurt too much.
Bill, the DE's on the board really aren't worthy of the Chiefs #3 pick. If you are the Chiefs draftpicker, do you take Aaron Curry as the new cornerstone LB, bulk him up to the line, or drop for more picks?
If Curry proves in the next two months he can be a difference maker (and I hear he is the real deal) I'd take him. If not, I'd trade down. The Chiefs did well with extra picks last year and they could use another big load of picks again this year as they try to reload.
Do you think Denver will sign Ward from the Giants as he has expressed interest in playing for them?
Depends on his price tag. It would be a nice fit.
I've heard rumors that Jerry Porter is on his way back to Oakland. He showed GREAT flashes in his time in Oakland- should he come back, do you think HE could be Oakland's #1 WR and go somewhere else in the draft? THANKS!
I could see it but I haven't heard it. I think the Riaders should just move on.
Is it bordering on absurd how secretive the Chiefs are being with everything? They aren't yet at liberty to say what position any of the new coaches will have. Seems a bit ridiculous.
I'm with you Dan. It's just football.
Does Woodyard have any chance at playing in the Broncos 3-4? He was undersized for a 4-3.
I'm hearing Woodyard is in the team's plans in the 3-4. He's an exciting player. Let's see what he can do. He can be a real diamond in the rough.
Any chance Denver goes after Bart Scott? I'm hoping for some good free agent signings after the last few years.
He could fit. yes, Denver needs to score with some decent free agent pickups after the stinkers it has rolled out the past few years.
Bill, Has Al lost his mind? $15mil a year!! $4mil a year for a punter! Last year $8mil for an above average DT in Kelly!
It's steep but at least these two guys he signed this week are worth it,
Shane and Nnamdi are both locked up, even after BOTH said they would/could go elsewhere...good sign of the coaching staff?
It does speak well of the coaching staff. It's a big deal for Oakland.
What are the possibilities of the Raiders going after either Ocho Cinco or Boldin?
I don't know where they are going to get the money now.
Bill, what other DT besides Haynesworth could the Broncos target in FA? I would much rather see them get Maualuga than Raji....I think Raji is another Gerard Warren or Sedrick Ellis.
Keep an eye on Grady Jackson.
bill, thanks for taking my question. What kind of player do you think the packers should take in the draft at no.9? And what is your thoughts on their switch to the 3-4 def?
I think the Packers are hoping Raji is still on the board at No. 9.
Do you think Moss and/or Dumervil will be good fits at OLB for the Broncos? Do they have the necessary speed?
I have more faith in Dumervil. If Moss is going to salvage his career, he needs to make it work now.
Hey Bill. Any insight to why the Broncos let Aldridge go?
Just part of the new regime. Alridge was a favorite of Shanahan.
Any news on free agent or draft-available kickers? Broncos sure need an upgrade on Prater.
John Carney, perhaps?
Any chance Denver would trade Champ for the right offer? If Denver can rebuild the D line, we may not need elite CB's (like New England).
I really think they might. I don't think they should, but maybe.
Where will Fred Taylor go after the jags let him go?
Some folks think it will be San Diego but I don't see it if Tomlinson returns.
hey bill. who would you consider an ideal fit to fill the void left by bly at the corner slot for the broncos? a free agent or draft pick?
Keep an eye on St. Louis free agent Ronald Bartell.
Is Gonzo still going to be a Cheif after the draft? Or will he be traded to a team like the Eagles.
That;s the million dollar question. Gonzalez and the Chiefs need to figure this out out soon.
If the Giants let him go, are Plaxico Burress and the Raiders a match made in heaven?
Not sure about heaven but it could be a match.
Will Michael Bush have an expanded role this year?
I think he will. Bush showed at the end of the season that he needs to be on the field.
I'm a big Jamaal Charles fan but think his ideal work load is 13-17 touches. Should they invest a mid to late rd pick on a bigger back to compliment him.
Yeah, 10-15 carries. Charles gets hurt a lot. The Chiefs need a big guy to help carry the load.
Will the Chargers re-sign Igor Olshansky? What do you think of his play/talent?
I hear they will let him walk.
Do you think the change to the 3-4 is a good move for the Broncos? While I don't know if the personnel really fit, I don't know how much worse it could be than last year.
It is a good move because Mike Nolan is a good coach. A complete change is needed in Denver. But it will be tricky because the team doesn't have 3-4 players so it may take a while.
Any love for a 49ers fan? Could you see the 49ers taking a QB at the 10 spot? And if not, who do you think is the best fit for them defensively with that pick? Thanks!
Sure, I could see Mark Sanchez staying in California and being a 49er, why not?
Damn that big game for Michael Bush, I was hoping the Eagles could try and steal him away for a fifth or sixth rounder.
Yeah but it helped you get to the playoffs, bro.
How much of a pay cut will tomlinson have to take now that sproles is gauranteed that 6.6 Million?
It will be somewhat tricky but San Diego can mix some bonuses and incentives in to make it all work. Expect something to break on LT within the next five days or so.
I've read that Tyson Jackson is the perfect 3-4 end. Any chance he ends up in Denver or San Diego.
He is a player both teams will study extensively.
If the AFC West teams could only fix one problem (through draft or free agency) which would be the #1 area needed for improvement, for each team?
Den: Pass rush. KC: Pass rush. Oak: No. 1 receiver. SD: Inside linebacker.
what, is this just AFC West hour? Move on to the other 28 teams. Will housh sign with Phila?
Since I'm the AFC West guy, it kind of is the AFC West hour ... But, yes, I can see him signing in Philly. Watch out for Seattle and San Francisco as well.
That was polite of you to understate Charles' proneness to injury. The guy was injured at least 5 times this year. He got injured on the Chiefs 1st play on his only start of the year.
Thansk for noticing, Todd.
in the wake of the patriots using the franchise tag on matt cassel do you see the patriots making any big free agent acquisitons maybe like bart scott
You never know with the Patriots. They can surorise you.
Thanks for the great hour, folks. It was a lot of fun. Talk to you next week as we inch toward free agency. BW.
