Barry will be here at 6 p.m. ET to answer your NHL trade deadline questions!
Not an unbelievable day, but small deals helped some clubs and there was a lot of player movement.
Hey Barry,do you think rangers improved themselves for playoff run ,and will they make playoffs?
Yes, I do think they helped themselves enough to make the playoffs. I think Morris is a physical guy and Antropov is a big body up front and now Avery is coming in. They got a lot tougher to play against.
Bill Guerin is 38 years old. Good or bad as Crosby's linemate?
It was a good pick up. He can still score and is having a good year. He can still skate and is a physical presence. good pick up.
What team do you think most benefited from the trades they made?
What do you think it will take for the coyotes to turn it around for the remainder of the season?
I do not think they will turn it around. With the deal they made today, they are building for the future. They got picks and are still in rebuilding mode for the seventh or eighth straight year.
Hey Barry, do you think the Rangers traded away too much in Dawes, Prucha, and Kalinin for Morris?
No. Prucha has been a major disappointment as has Kalinin. Dawes has played very well. But they were up against the cap and had to make some moves. But I like the move.
Hello Berry, what do you think about the panthers chances to make the playoffs?
Good. I like the way they are playing and kept Bouwmeester. They are playing great and with their goaltending I think they will make the playoffs.
Greetings from England. How do you think the Canes did today? Will the re-acquisition of Erik Cole be enough to push them into the playoffs bearing in mind the deals made by the other teams in the East dogfight?
I like Cole coming back to Carolina. He has always played well there with Staal. They lost Williams a very good players, but it will be a great finish to the season. The Rangers, Carolina, Buffalo and Florida all got better and I think it will be a hell of an ending to the season in the East. And say hi to all the hockey fans over in England, old chap.
What team do you think benefited more from the Sharks, Ducks trade?
The Sharks. Moen and Huskins have both won Cups. Moen has scored some big goals and Huskins played some physical minutes in the Cup finals.
Hey Barry, how much experience does Derek Morris have on the PP and do you think Torts will put him on the Blueshirts' first unit?
Morris has a big shot, a right handed shot and the way the Rangers' PP is going it is not like you are going to hurt it by putting him in there. So I think you will see him in there right away on the PP.
hey barry i heard jordan staals named thrown out there as underachiever that could have gotten moved. did you hear that and do you feel like he is more valuable to the penguins than he would be as trade bate
His name was mentioned, but I think it is more of a case of Pittsburgh having to make a tough decision eventually. But I think they would like to keep him and build around him Malkin and Crosby for the next 10 years.
Is there any reason for Bruins fans to be excited about Steve Montador? With Pronger/Boewister/Morris potentially available, this just reeks of Jeremy Jacobs being his usual cheap self.
I think he a solid defenseman. I think the Bruins tried to do other things but were not able to. I do not think anyone wanted to see Kessel traded. So I disagree with you and I think you will like Montador, who comes to play hard every night.
Can the sharks afford to keep moen after this season?
I think that will all depend on how he plays. They have a lot of guys they need to make decisions on after this year. But SJ is worried about this year and everything they have done is based on winning the Cup this season.
Do you think the islanders did the right thing with getting only a conditional pick for Guerin? Did the well dry up for him?
I think the well did dry up. I think the Isles envisioned being more active, but there was not a market for many players. People expected more back from a guy like Antropov for example. The market was much tougher this season and I think the Isles saw that very quickly.
Upshall for Carcillo? Why is this good for Philly?
I'm not sure it is. It is like trading for the same player, except Upshall is a free agent at the end of the year. But that trade did not make much sense to anyone.
Bouwmeester didn't get traded. Do the panthers think they can re-sign him? Where do you rank him for d-men in the league?
I do not think Florida can sign him. They have tried and offered a lot and he has turned them down. I think he is a Top 10 guy on defense. You look at his numbers and minutes played and he is in the Top 10. But I do not see the Panthers being able to bring him back.
Know the Caps have been your pick to win the East. Has that changed with their lack of moves today accompanied by what others did get done?
No they are still my team in the East. But I was disappointed that they were not more active, maybe they tried to be and nothing developed. But I still think they are the best team in the East.
Barry with the trades buffalo made what do you think there chances are for the playoffs.
I think it depends on getting Vanek and Miller back. If Vanek can come back and score and Miller can be the same guy then they are okay. But if Miller misses a lot more time, I do not think they can make the playoffs.
What about Recchi? He's 105 years old. How much does he really help?
He is a depth guy. He is not expected to play on the top two lines. He can play 8 minutes and kill penalties and help out. Do not read too much into it. He is there in case there are injuries or in case guys need a breather.
Hey Barry, There is quite a buzz going on arround here about the CBJ making the playoffs for the first time, how do you feel today effect those chances?
I think they helped their team. Vermette was a pretty big part of Ottawa going to the finals and they are a better team now than they were yesterday.
Barry, I would have traded Manny Fernandez if I were the Bruins. Don't see him coming back next year a,d question his mental toughness. What do you think?
I think they maybe tried, but as I said, I do not think there was a lot of interest in a guy like him who is hurt a lot. They were not getting a first round pick for him and if you are only going to get a fourth or fifth round pick then why trade him. You may need him in the playoffs. So again I think it was the market.
should detroit be worried about the moves the sharks and, more so, the flames made?
I do not think worried is the right word. They knew teams were going to try and get better. And yes SJ and the Flames got better. Detroit added Hossa in the offseason and no one added a player like him. But yes, those teams and Chicago got better.
I think the trade deadline sets up a great finish to the season. The battle for the 8 spot and the 1 spot will be great.
