Chat with ESPN Radio's Scott Van Pelt

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:33 PM)

Sorry, Scott is walking in now! Peter Gammons held him up! (or at least taping an interview with him did)

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:33 PM)

Hey ya'll...sorry about the brief delay. Fire in those questions...are we all brackets today or are we goin off the board too? Hit me up.

Brian (Washington, IL)

You should be on now

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:33 PM)

...and now I am.

Brian (Washington, IL)

Are you there yet?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:34 PM)

Yes!

Matt P (London, ON)

Whats your favorite cereal?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:35 PM)

People ask me that a lot on this thing...and honestly I don't eat much cereal. Not much of a breakfast guy.

Sam (Pelham)

2007. Winged Foot Country Club. US Open. I yelled out "nah nah nah, nah nah nah." You waved. I know you remember this interaction.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:36 PM)

Great to talk to you again. How's your Mother? Tell her I said hello. Shoot me a text soon.

Steiny (NYC)

Marvin Harrison. Was he a great receiver. Or did Peyton Manning make him what he is today?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:37 PM)

That's a great question and I'm not sure we'll ever know the real answer. You see guys like Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark having lots of success with Peyton as well. I have a feeling Marvin is a VERY good WR and Peyton throwing to him made him GREAT.

Brian (Washington, IL)

The thing said that you were going to be on at 1:30 ET. AND YOUR NOT!

Brian (Washington, IL)

Sorry i didn't refresh my computer.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

SVP: We often hear complaints about late starting times for World Series games but we have a premier matchup in Duke v Villanova starting tonight at 10:00 PM. Shouldn't the NCAA look into getting these games to start earlier?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:38 PM)

I agree, but as an East Coaster...are you willing to turn it off if it's close? Probably not.

Joe (Boston)

Steiny: Is he a great chatter or just sends in so many questions that he has to get something posted?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:39 PM)

I'm glad you brought this up Joe. Steiny and JB send about 10-20 questions per chat. It's easy to ignore people like that, but they tend to ask good questions. So, I guess both!

Will (WV)

What did Gammons want?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:40 PM)

To "set up" the interview that we are going to do "live" at 3:41 PM ET. You know...

John (Dallas)

Scott, in your honest opinion, who's going to win the NBA championship?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:41 PM)

I'll take Boston. I think they will be as tough when it matters as they were last year. Garnett's health concerns me, but someone is still going to have to beat them four times.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Oh great, now I'm in with Steiny. This is not necessarily a good thing.

Jason (baltimore)

Scott is it safe to say that Maryland can no longer claim Duke as a rival(never was) when they've lost 6 in a row and suffered their worse lose ever. Why not VA or Georgetown?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:42 PM)

Well Georgetown they don't play every year and Duke would never admit Maryland was a rival in the first place. Although it was interesting to hear Jay Williams say the other day on the Radio that when he was at Duke, the Maryland-Duke games were bigger than the Carolina-Duke games.

Sam (Pelham)

My mother is doing great, thanks for asking. Hit me up with your cell number though, I remember you giving it to me but I must've misplaced it.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:43 PM)

Sure thing!

Dave(vt)

Scott, you probably dont follow it too much, but who's gonna win the frozen four?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:44 PM)

Whoever Buccigross says is going to win. Northeastern? Maybe? Didn't Jack Parker's boys win the beanpot? I'll take them.

John (LA)

What up SVP! I'll admit I don't follow women's basketball but explain something for me: How does Michigan State, a 9 seed, get to host a game against Duke, the 1 seed? If I were Duke, I would not be happy about that.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:45 PM)

I have no idea. I thought the same thing as I was watching. How could you possibly ask a #1 seed to play a road game? Seems ridiculous.

Sam (Pelham)

Now that we've got our formalities out of the way. Where do you see Seth Curry transferring to? I keep hearing that he wants to go ACC but how do you make the jump from the Southland to the second best division in bball, that seems like a stretch.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:46 PM)

I'm sure that every ACC team would have been happy to have Steph after they saw what he was capable of. The kid scored a bunch this year and wouldn't have to be the star on most ACC teams, he could just be a piece of the puzzle. Doesn't seem like a stretch to me at all.

Josh (Binghamton, NY)

Scott what do you think of an extended NFL season?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:48 PM)

Anything that alters the nonsense that is preseason is a positive. People will take all the NFL they can get. It won't be a 17 game season, that makes no sense. 18 games in 19 weeks seems likely to me. The concern obviously would be injuries, because it's already a war of attrition at 16 games. Adding two more to the list, while it doesn't sound like a lot, is probably a pretty big ask physically.

Calloway (spartanburg, s.c.) [via mobile]

Favorite member of the A Team? go.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:49 PM)

George Papard. Wasn't he the guy that could make a bomb out of a piece of gum, an orange rind, and a rubber band? Wait that was MacGyver. That dude kicked @$$!!

Phil (Chicago)

Masters is a couple weeks away, who you got? You cannot take the safe pick and say Tiger.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:50 PM)

I can't? Why can't I? Whose chat is this? Is this Phil's chat? Is that you Mickelson? I'll take you...Phil! You've been hot lately. Feel better Lefty?

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Is Mike Tirico still rubbing in the fact that 'Cuse is still playing while the Terps are home?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:51 PM)

No, he hasn't been obnoxious. I'm pulling for him. As I have mentioned many times, I have a bunch of family ties to the 'Cuse, so I'm happy to see them do well.

John (Dallas)

Scott, since you are doing an interview with Gammons will you give us your MLB picks?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:52 PM)

Did you see last year when I picked Seattle to get a Wild Card? And Cleveland and Arizona to meet in the World Series? And when I picked the Lions to go to the playoffs? I am strictly "go against", counterfeit tout.

Aaron (GA)

I can understand why you wouldn't answer this publicly, but are thre any local dives in Augusta that you regularly hit when you go to the Masters?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:53 PM)

I just always go to T-Bone's. Convenient spot to meet.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Would you mind picking the Mets and Phils as the division champs and wild card then? I'd like to see the Braves get back into the playoffs.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:54 PM)

I'm not sure if I have that type of power, one of these days I'm bound to be right about something...maybe it's Gonzaga winning it all!

John (Chicago)

Plus adding 2 more games would make all of us change our fantasy season. And I know that makes a big difference to you, right....

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:55 PM)

No but it would make for two more weeks of WINNERS!!! Which would be a fantasy itself. And more of Carl's Stone Cold Lock of the Century of the Week. Everyone wins!

Sam (Bucknell)

Would American beating Villanova have been a bigger upset than Bucknell beating Kansas?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:56 PM)

In my opinion yes, because the game was played in Philly....which was essentially a home floor for Nova.

Hutch (Htfd.)

Did players like M.Irving, J. rice C. carter attend voluntary workouts? Not that T.O. is as accomplished, but do other big names skip the voluntary training?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:57 PM)

Yeah, and I think 30 Bills veterans skipped it too. But none of those guys have reality shows on VH1, and none of those guys are getting 6 million to play for a year. It's the yin and yang of being a star. People are going to pay more attention to when you're there and they're going to pay more attention when you're not there.

Ian(Georgetown KY)

Who will be in the final 4

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:59 PM)

I'll stay with Gonzaga because I picked them initially. I'll go Pitt, Memphis, Michigan State.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:59 PM)

Show starts in seconds....gotta go!

Alright, folks. Good news and bad news. The bad news is the chat goes on hiatus at 2.15p ET today. The good news is we have some cool new ways to interact with the show coming up.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

How long will the hiatus be?

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:06 PM)

Well, it's almost that magical time when the ESPNRadio.com page gets re-designed. As I'm sure you are aware, ESPN.com went through it a few months ago. We have some cool new ways to interact with the show coming up, so keep checking the site.

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:07 PM)

You can start by following the Tirico & Van Pelt Twitter page (http://twitter.com/The_Real_TVP), which should be up and running by tomorrow's show.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Hey Frank...how come this didn't come up on the ESPNRadio homepage???

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:11 PM)

Not sure. We've been having some technical issues today. We're also shorthanded, and I have not yet acquired knowledge of all of the ESPNRadio.com secrets.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Hey Lisa. Guess this will be a short chat today, huh?

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:14 PM)

Yes, only a couple minutes left. It feels like the last day of summer camp. I will channel my inner camp counselor: everyone who wants to exchange contact information should do so now.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

I'll miss the regulars but hope they will show up for the Colin Cowherd chats on Fridays.

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:15 PM)

Just think of the re-design as a speed bump. You have to slow down before you get to it, but then you can drive as quickly as you want after.

Keith (MD)

Lisa, where is White Hall MD. I live in Baltimore co

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

As long as we can get the chat back at some point, that will work. I'm not really a twitter guy.

Keith (MD)

What the heck is "Twitter"?

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:19 PM)

A robot.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Keith - I am about 10 miles north of Parkton

Keith (MD)

JB: You must be the fastest typist around.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Where in Balto Co do you live Keith?

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Keith: I learned in H.S. and I do a lot of typing at work.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Hey it's 2:20 PM and the chat hasn't blown up yet.

Lisa (White Hall, MD)

Hey J.B. - see you on Colin's chat Is this chat going away forever?

Keith (MD)

Lisa: I have family that lives right off of Paper Mill Road

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:22 PM)

60 seconds left. Break out the violins.

Keith (MD)

Lisa: South west tip in Catonsville

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a pleasure chatting with you (cue Celine Dion).

ESPNRadio.com
  (2:23 PM)

Likewise. Too bad the webmistress is off today. Celine is her favorite!

Keith (MD)

Its been a pleasure!

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Oh well, we'll still have Fridays.
