Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
 (12:00 PM)

Greetings, FIght Freaks. The new notebook is up, three blogs this week and an always updated schedule for you to check out. We've got a very good main event on FNF tonight with Peter and Chambers and Chavez headlining on PPV tomorrow night. So we have plenty to discuss. Let's get to it.

Paul (Germantown, MD)

Maybe too late..but why not Khan filling in for one of the lightweights on that goldenboy card?

Dan Rafael
 (12:00 PM)

You clearly do not have a remote grasp on the business side of things.

Chris (Los Angeles CA)

D$ - I wonder if Arum is still "outraged" at Margarito's suspension?

Dan Rafael
 (12:01 PM)

I will be interested to ask him next time I speak to him. Margarito is an absolute disgrace to the sport and so is his trainer, Capetillo.

Kevin, The Campus of George Mason U

Dan, I'm extremely disappointed abouot the Bhop-Adamek fight. It would have been the perfect fight. How greedy can you be??? Does BHOP not understand that he has not other options, besides taking on Chad Dawson. (Which is does not want to do)

Dan Rafael
 (12:02 PM)

Hey, BHop does what he wants to do. Remember, he called out Adamek and then tried to take him for a chump. Maybe we'll end up with Jones-Hopkins 2, which I have no interest in at this point.

Kevin (St. Pete)

Dan -- good write up this week on the B-Hop situation with Adamek. Do you think Hopkins will answer any questions about this on FNF's? Would love to see you grill him about it.

Dan Rafael
 (12:02 PM)

I would love to grill him about it on the show, but we appear on different episodes.

Joel (NY)

Dan, can you explain why no television coverage for Celestino's fight? Did panama not want it on TV?

Dan Rafael
 (12:03 PM)

I assume it will be televised in Panama, just not in the US.

Mike (Chicago)

When did Gerald Nobles replace Sam Peter against Chambers? 265 lbs? Are you kidding me?

Dan Rafael
 (12:03 PM)

LOL! 265 -- not exactly showing he is serious about his comeback.

Tom (Dallas, Texas)

Dan, great blogs this week and notbook today. In light of the findings by the California Commission that a plaster of paris like substance was on the wraps of Margarito is a lifetime ban in order for him now? This sport is dangerous enough without someone trying to load their gloves.

Dan Rafael
 (12:03 PM)

Margarito should never be allowed to fight in the US ever again.

mike costa rica

dan, when you talked to mr arum did he give you any update on the june 13 cotto fight??

Dan Rafael
 (12:04 PM)

Yes, he said they are finalizing the contract with Cotto. The fight will happen at MSG on HBO.

Paul (Germantown, MD)

What is your stance on Chavez Jr being brought on slowly? Should he be tested by now?

Dan Rafael
 (12:05 PM)

If Arum and Chavez can make money, put on entertaining cards and have fans still want to buy tickets and PPV, then I have no problem with them doing what they are doing.

Joel (NY)

What were the details as to why Panama didn't want it on Showtime?

Dan Rafael
 (12:05 PM)

You're confused. Showtime wasn't going to go to Panama to cover that fight. Too expensive for a fight that was not that big. In Florida, fine. Not in Panama.

Gary: (Cranbury, NJ)

Dan, do you feel that Margarito-Cotto 2 just became a lot more interesting?

Dan Rafael
 (12:06 PM)

Won't happen at this point.

Cliff (New York NY)

Dan, something tells me Floyd is going to suprise everyone and pick mosley on July 11th. It kills two birds with one stone b/c Shane beat Margarito and fought cotto to a close decision loss. What do you think?

Dan Rafael
 (12:06 PM)

Dream on. He won't be fighting Mosley if he fights July 11.

Jon (DC)

Dan, who took a worse beating, Gomez last week or Duke last night? I say Duke.

Dan Rafael
 (12:06 PM)

That game hurt last night.

Jon (SF)

Dan, I was one of those waiting for evidence before fully condemning Margarito, but now that it appears we have the evidence, throw him out for good. Mexico will look like a disgrace if they allow him to fight. Arum should not put him on any card.

John (San Fran)

Peter didn't seem very excited about his fight from the chat yesterday and Chambers looks excited to fight. Who do you have in tonight's main event?

Dan Rafael
 (12:07 PM)

I think I am liking Chambers to outbox Peter and maybe even stop him on volume of punches if Peter's heart isn't into it. I could see Sam quitting again.

andrew (fort lee, new jersey)

buy or sell? team berto agrees to judah.

Dan Rafael
 (12:07 PM)

Sell.

Zach MPLS

Dan, any truth to the rumor that Klit-Haye is going to be in Ukraine?

Dan Rafael
 (12:08 PM)

Although both sides have been saying Germany since the England idea went down the drain, Ukraine could be possible if there was somebody willing to put up good money.

JJD (Seattle)

Hey, give Sam Peter a break everybody. I heard he had been killing himself to make 260.

John (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Due to the findings, should Cotto's loss to Margarito now be changed to a No Decision?

Dan Rafael
 (12:09 PM)

We all think Margarito loaded his gloves when he fought Cotto but without evidence you can't change the result. So no, it won't be changed unless evidence is presented.

bill (carmel, ny)

so, what happens next with margarito? does cali revisit the one year suspension? are there likely to be any criminal charges?

Dan Rafael
 (12:09 PM)

I would be stunned if California gave him back his license after a year.

mike costa rica

dan, right now it seems that the palvik undercard could really be good.

Dan Rafael
 (12:10 PM)

Agreed. If it goes on as Arum outlined to me for my notebook today -- Montiel-Morel, Alvarado-Malignaggi, Martirosyan in a step-up fight -- then it looks pretty good.

John, Austin

Dan, ok so Margarito and his trainer are cheaters but they can't possibly be the only ones that have done this...how common do you think this is?

Dan Rafael
 (12:11 PM)

I actually tend to think it is quite uncommon.

John (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Didn't ask if it will, asked if it SHOULD be changed.

Dan Rafael
 (12:12 PM)

No because there is no evidence Margarito loaded his hands for that fight even if we all think he did.

Sam Peter

I've got to stop getting dieting tips from Joan Guzman.

Joel (NY)

Dan, what will you be watching tomorrow night? Chavez Jr. or the Dirrell Shobox?

Dan Rafael
 (12:12 PM)

Chavez live and Dirrell on the DVR.

Dan Rafael
 (12:13 PM)

OK, so you know how you all ask me if you're a freak because of this or that? So how about me? Today is my wedding anniversary yet I am chatting with the Freaks! Freak?

Carl (Bronx NY)

Dan, what do think about Arum and Freddie roach being quoted saying that they are not interested in Floyd if Pac-Man gets by Hatton (I think by ko). Is that just hot air leveraging or what? b/c that?s the biggest fight in boxing regardless of style.

Dan Rafael
 (12:13 PM)

Probably just leverage. I don't think Arum minds at all rubbing Floyd's face in that.

chris (brooklyn, ny)

dan, I heard my boy Gary Stark is going to be fighting Antonio Escalante. Have you heard anything about him (escalante)?

Dan Rafael
 (12:14 PM)

Yes, it is April 24 in the ESPN2 main event. Happens that I will be the studio co-host that night before heading out to Foxwoods for Froch-Taylor.

jack, fort collins

if devon alexander is on the lattimore/spinks card, is there any chance we will see a step up in opposition? now that juan urango isn't going to fight berto, i think he would be a great test for alexander.

Dan Rafael
 (12:15 PM)

Yes, Alexander is supposed to be on that card. I spoke to his manager/trainer Kevin Cunningham yesterday and he said that Don King had called him and told him to tell Devon to get ready to fight April 24. As for the Berto-Urango fight, the notebook has been updated with information from this morning. Looks like Urango and his promoter are going to work things out and he will end up taking the fight.

Jon (DC)

Dan, I know it is a stay busy fight, but for a guy as old and inactive as Forrest is, his upcoming fight is a complete joke.

Dan Rafael
 (12:15 PM)

I agree. It's a crappy fight and doesn't belong on Showtime.

Keiran (SYR)

dandaman.....who u like in the Oklahoma SYR game?

Dan Rafael
 (12:16 PM)

Gotta root for Syracuse as an upstate New York guy, not to mention that is where my wife went to college.

Brooks (Cleveland)

Dan, I've been waiting all week to ask you - you sound skeptical in the notebook, and I guess I'm skeptical too. Based on your discussions with Arum and knowledge of the overall situation, what odds would you put on Pavlik-Abraham actually happening this fall?

Dan Rafael
 (12:16 PM)

I hope it happens, I want to see it like so many of you do but I will believe it when I see it because Arum cries wolf like this all the time.

Josh (Danbury)

Dan, for freak status you need to watch the fight on espn tonight. Chatting during the day alone doesn't cut it

Dan Rafael
 (12:17 PM)

I will be watching the fight tonight, I assure you.

Chris (Los Angeles CA)

D$ - If people want to know more about Escalante I suggest they check out his fight with Jose Hernandez back in '06. Savage.

Dan Rafael
 (12:17 PM)

Tremendous fight, one of the best in Telefutura history.

David( SA, TX)

Why is Showtime even considering putting Corey Spinks on TV? Even the hardest of hardcore fans cringe and change the channel when he fights.

Dan Rafael
 (12:18 PM)

Well a couple of things. One, the Caballero fight fell out so they already had a spot for boxing on the schedule that they can fill. Second, it's not to put Spinks on. It's more about Latimore, a young up and coming guy and Devon Alexander, another great young prospect.

Sam Peter

I brought in James Toney to be my chef during training camp.

JP (Columbus, OH)

Dan the Man, you have always been and always will be King Freak. Happy anniversary. Your wife is Queen Freak for allowing you to chat.

Dan Rafael
 (12:19 PM)

Thanks.

Oscar(TX)

It is true that more than half(12 million people) of the people in Germany tuned on to see the Vitali fight on like their version of ABC?

Dan Rafael
 (12:19 PM)

Yes. Which is why the Klitschkos don't need to fight in the US when they can draw that kind of audience in Germany and make great money there.

Sam Peter

Actually, to be honest I ate James Toney during training camp.

Mike (Clifton Park)

What is more likely to happen 1. Pavlik-Abraham 2. Bob Arum making a contribution for construction of the George W. Bush Presidential Library

Dan Rafael
 (12:20 PM)

I think the fight will happen before Arum contributed that money.

Kevin (St. Pete)

Watched the Dunne-Cordoba fight on Youtube. Great fight -- would love to see a rematch. The announcers were classic with how much they were pulling for Dunne.

Dan Rafael
 (12:21 PM)

Sensational fight. I don't think there will be a rematch, certainly not right away. There are fights Dunne can take in Europe that will make him good money. He doesn't need Cordoba again.

Vitali Klitchko

So Dan, can please explain to me why I should care what American's think of me and my brother? I got 1/2 of my country watching me!

Dan Rafael
 (12:21 PM)

You shouldn't. But you want us to care.

Brian (DC)

Everyone knows Roy Jones is shot, but because of Roy's name, wouldn't BHop stand to make more money to fight Roy than to fight Adamek?

Dan Rafael
 (12:21 PM)

Maybe, but don't forget, Roy is going to want a big piece of that pie too.

Jamesa(ottawa)

Dannotoni, thoughts on the RJJ Jr boxing/mma card. Did you watch the MMA portion or just fast foward. Thought it was horrible, all of it.

Dan Rafael
 (12:22 PM)

It sucked. Start to finish.

Dave, NJ

Why isn't HBO interested in Delvin Rodriguez? He is a good fighter and they have approved fighters not as good as him.

Dan Rafael
 (12:22 PM)

I think HBO would have definitely taken Delvin as an opponent a few fights ago for Berto. And they might even consider him for this spot, but certainly not at the dollar figure they are paying for Urango.

dave (detroit)

dan, how successful are the latin fury ppvs? They are pretty cheap in comparison to other ppvs and i can't imagine that many people buying them.

Dan Rafael
 (12:23 PM)

Arum wouldn't be doing them regularly if he wasn't making money. From what Top Rank says, they do anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 buys for the shows, which is good regular money, especially when they are not that expensive to do.

Jeff (Cincy)

The picture on ESPN.com's boxing page said all that had to be said about the Dunne fight - even Dunne's cornerman had blood on his face!

Ki (Huntsville, AL)

Dan, I've heard Glenn Johnson's name being tossed around as a possible opponent for Ademek. What do you think of that matchup? I like Johnson.

Dan Rafael
 (12:24 PM)

Good fight.

Enrique- Carlsbad

The freaks appreciate you chatting it up with us on your anniversary DAN.. Your the Freak of all Freaks!!!

Jon (DC)

Dan, I have to correct you. 55 is the share of the Klitschko fight. Meaning, of those watching TV at that time, 55% watched the fight. Does not mean 55% of the entire country.

Dan Rafael
 (12:24 PM)

You are correct. However you slice, it's still a ton of people.

Joe (Philadelphia, PA)

No way would I shell out $50 to see a Roy Jones headliner ever again, even if it was B-Hops last fight

Dan Rafael
 (12:25 PM)

You are not alone.

Joe (Bethesda)

Dan, I am still waiting for the Jones-Sheika fight to start.

Dan Rafael
 (12:25 PM)

I was so angry that they didn't start that fight until 12:20 am. Just ridiculous.

Rick, Marina, Ca

If Montiel wins, is he looking at the winner of Darchy-Agbeko?

Dan Rafael
 (12:26 PM)

No, he would face Eric Morel in a mandatory, possibly in June under Pavlik-Mora.

Angel, Carson City

Thanks for all the great blogs this week! Do any of the putrid sanctioning bodies ever write to you to defend their insane actions?

Dan Rafael
 (12:26 PM)

Not really write, but I have had many conversations with people from the organizations in person when we see each other at fights.

Freaks

Never buy another PPV put on by Square Ring. You will get terrible undercard fights, that are long and the main event won't start until about 3 am.

todd (sf, calif)

cordoba was taken by stretcher from the ring last week after a savage fight. any update on his condition?

Dan Rafael
 (12:27 PM)

He was taken for observation and released. I talked to one of his corner people and was told he was fine and headed back to Panama on schedule.

Joel (NY)

Dan, any chance we will see Erislandy Lara fight April 17th televised on Shobox?

Dan Rafael
 (12:28 PM)

It would be nice for Showtime to add him the telecast but I have not heard that he will be.

Zach MPLS

Dan, Will you be going to Tunica, Miss on 4/25 for the "Swamp Donkey" fight?

Dan Rafael
 (12:28 PM)

No, but I love the Swamp Donkey. DONKEY POWER!!!!!!!!!!

IRS

We wanted to be the first to tell you that Floyd Jr. is coming back.

Herman, Buffalo, NY

Has King given you any update on the Jones-Mormeck proposed fight in France?

Dan Rafael
 (12:29 PM)

No, but one of my good sources in Europe told me this week it looks like Jones vs. Brudov in June and no Mormeck fight.

John (Austin)

Any chance any fights are important enough for you to come to Austin. We could have a big Freak Fest in the ATX.

Dan Rafael
 (12:30 PM)

I will not be in Austin, but I do like the card.

Chaz (Boston)

Dan, Showtime can say it is about Latimore but they have to realize that Spinks will almost undoubtedly win that fight easily. Right?

Dan Rafael
 (12:30 PM)

Not at all. Why would you say that? I think it's a tossup fight.

Jon (DC)

Dan, did you ask John Wirt why the PPV was so long. I heard that if the fight went the distance there was a chance that it would have been yanked off the air before it finished.

Dan Rafael
 (12:31 PM)

I did ask him and his answer was basically, "We screwed up."

Rich (Ottawa)

Dan-o, did you see Jim Bagg in Ring mag called Margarito the "Plastered B@stard"? Great nickname, perfect. I say we all call him that from now on.

Dan Rafael
 (12:31 PM)

That Jim Bagg has some good lines.

Joe (NYC)

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually agree with Don King's appeal to have the Barrera fight ruled a no-decision. There's no way that fight should have continued as long as it did. What do you think?

Dan Rafael
 (12:31 PM)

I agree.

Berndawg

Happy Anniversary to the God of Thunder and Mrs. God of Thunder.

Dan Rafael
 (12:32 PM)

Thanks to a loyal freak.

Roger

Everyone knows what Dan was doing during the MMA portion..we don't need to go there again.

bill (pgh)

King Freak- 2 questions about the GBP-ESPN deal. Does a new sponsor equal a higher budget and is there any chance GBP gets a show during the FNF "off season"?

Dan Rafael
 (12:33 PM)

No. No.

Randy (Milwaukee)

B-Hop, please join your boy Joe Calzaghe in the Social Security line if you're going to pull stuff like this.

Joe: San Francisco, CA

So, is the Showtime "first Saturday of the month" fight programming completely dead now?

Dan Rafael
 (12:34 PM)

They have deviated from that for awhile now. I never thought it was realistic. It sounded good in theory but it was horrible in practice because of holidays, site issues, etc...

Ricardo (Bronx, NY)

Happy Anniversary to the Rafael's, wishing many more to come...Dan, did Winky Wright handle negotiations on Hopkins' behalf?

Dan Rafael
 (12:34 PM)

Winky does have ties to Golden Boy, so you never know.

Greg(Los Angeles)

Is Cunningham-Braithwaite going to happen? That would not be bad on the undercard of Spinks-Latimore.

Dan Rafael
 (12:35 PM)

It's possible. It is an eliminator that has been ordered.

Matt, LA

Sam Peter is so discouraging. Raw power..exciting KOs. 265lbs? What a waste...

Jordan (Baton Rouge, La)

Dan, why does Floyd target junior welterweights instead of the champ Sugar Shane?

Dan Rafael
 (12:35 PM)

Because they are easier to fight.

Dave, NJ

Dan have there been any pay per views that you did not buy? I didn't buy the Jones fight, the first one since 1997.

Dan Rafael
 (12:36 PM)

I bought the Jones fight because it was part of my job. But if it wasn't, I swear I would not have bought it because on paper it was THAT bad. And in reality it was worse.

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

I think HBO is missing a chance to put on a good fight. Berto/Rodriguez is just as intriguing as Berto/Urango, if not more. Rodriguez is a real welterweight, he has power, and he makes good action fights.

Dan Rafael
 (12:36 PM)

There are a lot of you saying the same thing and it is a reasonable point.

Rags

Does VERSUS have any live cards in the pipeline?

Dan Rafael
 (12:37 PM)

I believe they owe the Contender folks two more live cards this year but besides that they have nothing set and I do not know if they plan to continue with live boxing. I hope they do.

Kevin

Is Vitali going to get saddled with the Maskaev defense, or do you think the WBC will grant him an optional?

Dan Rafael
 (12:38 PM)

As of now, the WBC says Maskaev is next. The Klitschko camp is fighting it.

Jeff ( Atlanta GA)

How significant is the Williams-Wright fight next month? who do you like and what impacy will that have on the 147-160 divisions? I've been hearing a lot of people picking wright.

Dan Rafael
 (12:39 PM)

It's very significant. If Williams wins, that's a great victory against a respected veteran. If Winky wins, he's back in business in a big way.

Rick, Marina, Ca

How about Chavez Jr vs your boy the love child Julio?

Dan Rafael
 (12:39 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. I think Julio would knock him out.

Matt (Philly)

Dan, I just had surgery and didn't miss the chat! Freak status? I've also shown the 10th Round of Corrales/Castillo I to more than 500 people!

Dan Rafael
 (12:40 PM)

Yes, Freak for sure.

Jon (DC)

Dan, I know you love him, but the fact that Devon Alexander is the mandatory for the Bradley-Holt winner is a complete joke. That should have made your blog this week.

Dan Rafael
 (12:41 PM)

I have written that in the past. I do believe Alexander is a very, very good prospect but I agree with you that in no way, shape or form should he be a mandatory challenger.

Chris (Los Angeles CA)

D$ - I see (and hear off camera) Col. Bob Sheridan calling the action at a lot of HBO fights. Who is he actually working for?

Dan Rafael
 (12:42 PM)

He does blow-by-blow for the international broadcast of many, many HBO fights. In that case, he is working for the production company hired to produce the international telecast.

Kevin Bowling Green, KY

The wraps Margarito's gloves contained plaster. I would assume this is like being able to hit someone with brass knuckles, would I be correct? And could Margarito EVER over come this?

Dan Rafael
 (12:43 PM)

It would be like hitting someone with a brick if the plaster hardened, which is what would happen as a fight wore on and his hands got wet from sweat and water.

J

Acelino Freitas vs Anatoly Alexandrov is now on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iK_rZ-L_wU

Dan Rafael
 (12:43 PM)

Nice one! That is the brutal knockout that made me fall in love with Popo to the point that I named my cat after him.

Rick, Marina, Ca

Are they still planning on a Angulo-Cintron fight? I dont know why but I like to watch Cintron keep getting beat down.

Dan Rafael
 (12:43 PM)

Yes.

Rui (Nutley, NJ)

Roy's back... Watch out Thomas Hearns, you're next!

Taylor (Salt Lake City, UT)

Boxing terminology: Floyd= Easiest way possible Margarito= Cheating Hopkins= Greedy Nigerian Nightmare= Thanks for dinner Dan the Man= Truth

Matt (Philly)

And now for some vicodin ...but i'll bookmark the chat to remember!

weber, east windsor, NJ

why is dibella so adamant about not matching berto with judah...is it a $$ thing or a personal thing or is judah too dangerous

Dan Rafael
 (12:44 PM)

It's not Lou, it's Haymon.

Francisco (Austin)

Dan, why are british networks like setanta allowed to show more undercard fights to big cards that HBO airs and pays the license fee but HBO only ends up showing the main event and a co-feature. For example on the Marquez-Diaz card setanta aired live both the Garia and Jacobs fight prior to the main event fights for that night.

Dan Rafael
 (12:46 PM)

HBO has the rights to show undercard bouts if it wants, but it prefers to show only the main fights. Keep in mind, HBO is a network that shows all kinds of entertainment programs whereas a Setanta is stictly sports and needs programming to fill time.

Pancho, Los Mochis

Alex De Jesus was robbed last weekend in Argentina - did you catch the fight with Cuenca? Why would his team send him there?

Dan Rafael
 (12:46 PM)

I just got a DVD of that fight the other day but have not watched the fight in its entirety yet.

Ron (Bethel Ct)

Happy anniversary Dano!!! Will hbo be showing the Valero pitula match the following week on regular hbo since its their ppv??

Dan Rafael
 (12:47 PM)

No, HBO is only distrubuting the fight. If you want to see it but the PPV because there is not a replay.

Zach MPLS

Dan, What do you think is harder: Antonio Margachito's hand wraps or Remembering Sam Peters order at IHOP?

Dan Rafael
 (12:47 PM)

In the immortal words of one of my favorite columnists, Norman Chad, pay the man, Shirley.

David (Winston-Salem. NC)

Danno, any word on Tavoris Cloud? I simply cannot wait to see this guy again, and I never hear anything about him.

Dan Rafael
 (12:48 PM)

Go to the store and check the milk cartons.

todd (sf, calif)

looks like same peter got caught up in the trappings of fame and refused to work harder to get to the next level. maybe he pulls it off tonight, but by his weight, it's clear his heart just isn't into it anymore.

Money May

Margarito coulda knocked out the Big Show with that hand wrap!!

jack, fort collins

i was kind of bummed when i heard hbo wans't into delvin rodriguez as an opponent for berto. i like the rodriguez fight more than i like the urango fight.

Mike (Detroit)

In light of the confirmation of plaster of paris in Margacheato's gloves, do you think anything should be revised about the punishment?

Dan Rafael
 (12:50 PM)

Well he can't fight in the US, what else can they do?

chris (brooklyn, ny)

Dan did Anotly Alexandrov stop breathing after the KO? It looked like they were trying to revive him.

Dan Rafael
 (12:50 PM)

They were giving him oxygen because he was out cold.

reg memphis

Dan, why are fights like peters and chambers only 10 rounds. I understand young fighters not being use to fighting 12 rounds but these guys are established. Are they just out of shape.

Dan Rafael
 (12:51 PM)

There is no title and it is not for an elimination so it's just a regular 10-round fight, even though it is an important one.

Brian (DC)

What's the most shocking weigh-in that you've covered... in terms of a guy showing up way overweight or badly weight-drained? And did you change your pick because of it?

Dan Rafael
 (12:52 PM)

Easy one -- Corrales-Castillo 3, when Castillo was way overweight and the fight was canceled. Flew to Vegas for nothing.

BDT (Ottawa)

You can claim that Hopkins is greedy if you like, but Adamek demanding a 60 / 40 split is more absurd than a 500k offer the other way. A title alone does not bring 60%. And if that was just a negotiating ploy, well his handlers sure blew that one didn't they?

Dan Rafael
 (12:53 PM)

You are dead wrong. The Adamek side asking for 60-40 was the opening offer of a negotiation. Hopkins saying 500,000 flat with no room for movement is dumb.

Joe (Clovis, NM)

With all this new development in the Margaito cheating and added speculation on whether or not his cheated also in the Cotto fight, has anyone asked Evangelista Cotto if he was there when Margarito's hands were wrapped?

Dan Rafael
 (12:54 PM)

Evangelista was not there and from what I am told the Cotto camp did not have a boxing person in there watching his hands get wrapped, only the lawyer I believe. Even so, if his hands were loaded for the Cotto fight the Nevada inspector missed it like the California inspector.

Ryan (Chicago, IL)

Dan, I am hear every Friday but never ask questions. A debate between fans has going on about JCC Jr. vs Kirkland. Does Kirkland kill him?

Dan Rafael
 (12:55 PM)

Slaughter I believe is the more apropriate word.

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

Adamek gets Newark rocking when he fights. He fills that building. He'll draw more fans to the arena than Hopkins will.

Cyrus (San Francisco, CA)

Following up on Mike's question, is there legal action from a criminal standpoint that can be taken against Margarito? I know you're not a lawyer, but is there a precedent for anything like that? As we've seen in the past, he literally could have killed somebody...

Dan Rafael
 (12:56 PM)

I really don't know. That said ultimately he did not fight with loaded gloves, so I'm not sure what he could be prosecuted for.

Jonathan (DC)

Happy Anniversary, Dan! Just re-watched Cunningham vs Adamek last night. I think Cunningham would outbox him in a rematch. Who do you see winning it?

Dan Rafael
 (12:56 PM)

I caught some of the replay lasy night on Versus. What a tremendous fight. I think a rematch would be another tossup fight but I see no reason to pick against Adamek.

Rui (Nutley, NJ)

ROFL. No offense Ryan, but the only debate between fans on how a fight between Chavez or Kirkland would turn out is whether or not it's over in 1 or 2 rounds.

Howard (UK)

Dan, I read the article about Don King protesting the Khan-Barrera fight. Do you think that King gets anything out of this? Is a rematch possible?

Dan Rafael
 (12:57 PM)

I do think a rematch is possible, but it depends on what other bouts are out there for Khan, like a David Diaz or Valero, which are both possible also.

Ben (Houston, TX)

Have you seen any video of Pitaula? Does he have a good chance of pulling off the upset?

Dan Rafael
 (12:59 PM)

I have seen him fight. He's a very good puncher. It should be a shootout kind of fight with Valero.

Charles (Philly)

Just curious, DTM: How did you become a Duke fan?

Dan Rafael
 (1:01 PM)

I went to high school with Greg Koubek and was friendly with him and when he was recruited by Duke, I became a fan. He went on to play in four Final Fours and win a national championship. I've been a Duke fan since about 1986.

Justin (Las Vegas, NV)

Nice notebook...I think it would be illegal for what Forrest would do to JCC Jr.

Joel (Woodland, CA)

As a former CA attorney, I can tell you that if Margarito knew the wraps were loaded, he and his trainer could be charged with felony criminal conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon.

John (Old Bridge, NJ)

Dan, Do you agree that Anne Wolfe's KO of Vonda Ward is one of the greatest knockouts of all time - Man or woman? And what are you top three 'One-Punch' KO's of all time?

Dan Rafael
 (1:04 PM)

I don't know if would go that far, but it is a sick, sick knockout.

Drew (Brunswick)

So B-Hop isn't gonna fight Adamek, no problem, lets have Adamek v. Cunningham 2. Good chance of that?

Dan Rafael
 (1:05 PM)

Down the road perhaps but definitely not next.

Andrew (Toronto)

Dan, do fighters, John Ruiz for example, ever show remorse or a dent in their pride for accepting an oblivious ranking by the organizations?

Dan Rafael
 (1:05 PM)

No, why should they?

Jackson (IA)

Buy or sell time, Dan...Pavlik fights the winner of Winky/Williams before he fights Abraham...

Dan Rafael
 (1:06 PM)

Sell all day long.

Jerson, Ocala, FL

How about Urbano Antillon v. Roman Martinez - BAD style.

Dan Rafael
 (1:06 PM)

Gooooooooood fight.

Justin (Las Vegas, NV)

You coming out for Tarver/Dawson 2. You know it may be a bad fight in most people's eyes but for aa fan like me I refuse to slam it b/c its priced right and lets a fan like me see a world championchip fight in person unlike Hatton/Pacman.

Dan Rafael
 (1:07 PM)

I wont be there because I will be in Vegas most of the previous week for Pacman and Hatton.

Rog (Sactown)

DTM, what's up with Povetkin these days

Dan Rafael
 (1:07 PM)

He fights next week dude. You ever hear of the fight schedule I update every day?

Edward (Jamaica, NY)

Do you agree with Freddie Roach's quote that Pac-man will finish Hitman < 3 rounds? No way I think.

Dan Rafael
 (1:08 PM)

I think Freddie may be a little excited.

Diane (Cleveland, OH)

Dan there are some nitwits out there that say since the report says that there are "elements" of plaster in the pads, and not specifically saying it is plaster, that it's not proof of it being plaster, do you think the commission will clarify this so that those 5 year olds can understand it? Also, I encourage everyone to contact the CA State Athletic Commission, and let them know that they should not re-instate his license. Power to the people!

Dan Rafael
 (1:09 PM)

There are a lot of Margarito apologists out there who are living in the clouds.

D (Phoenix)

Thank goodness for the keen eye of Naazim Richardson. Had Margarito fought with the loaded gloves and the unthinkable happened to a well known and well liked guy like Mosley not only would it have been a black eye for boxing it, it could have been the beginning of the end of boxing in the US

Mikey (Levittown, NY)

Dan, please make watching Dunne-Cordoba mandatory viewing for the freaks. It was AWESOME! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMweKG38MDw&feature=related

Dan Rafael
 (1:11 PM)

The best part was after watching it live on the Internet I ordered the Setanta package on my cable because they showed the replay a couple of days later, so I enjoyed it on the big screen, burned it to DVD and then canceled Setanta (because in the US they only show basically soccer and rugby and a bunch of other crap I have no interest in. If they showed boxing I would keep it for the $12.99 a month).

Greg (Boston)

D, like it's not already...Everything points to this not being a one time incident...Cotto was most likely hosed in one of the most entertaining fights this century

Kelvin "Koncrete" Davis

Any lawyers in the house? I'm exploring a copyright infringement case against Margarito....

Johnny, Minnesota

Dan, why doesnt't Dibella want to give his own fighter Carlos Quintana a shot against Berto? If I was Quintana I would be mad as hell.

Dan Rafael
 (1:12 PM)

He would be happy to make that fight. Berto's manager is refusing the fight.

Joe, RI

If I'm Cotto, I'd fight Margarito in hell...or even Mexico, to get my revenge!

Matt, LA

I'm with Freddie. There is only one Ricky Hatton and he is way too slow for Pac-Man. Early KO

Jackson (IA)

Absolutely HATE to say it...but what if Tarver pulls off the upset of Dawson? His record in rematches scares me...would we see a rematch of Tarver/Hopkins if that happens? Good Lord, the thought of Tarver back in the spotlight is gonna make me throw up...

Dan Rafael
 (1:13 PM)

I dont think you have to worry because even if Tarver beats Dawson on May 9, I do not think we will see a rematch with Hopkins.

Ralph (Brighton, England)

Prince Hamed is due for the Hall of Fame soon, no (I think its been 5 yrs since his last fight)? Does he get in?

Dan Rafael
 (1:14 PM)

He was on the ballot last year for the first time and did not get in.

Alex (NYC)

5 years ago today dominick guinn lost to monte barret? has there been a bigger fall from grace in the heavyweight division since?

Dan Rafael
 (1:16 PM)

Yeah, lots of them. But what I remember about that fight is that it was on during my wedding reception and a couple of friends asked me if they could go up to the hotel room to watch the fight during the party. I said fine as long as they came back and told me the results of the show.

Keiran(SYR)

Dan, who would you like in a Dirrell-Ward fight? I like Dirrell a bit more

Dan Rafael
 (1:16 PM)

Would love to see the fight. Makes a lot of sense. Not sure who I like in that one.

Nick (NYC)

Dan - Mark "too sharp" johnson - HOF?

Dan Rafael
 (1:17 PM)

Yes. I will vote for him.

Kasy, Cali

Do you make Concepcion a live dog against Luevano?

Dan Rafael
 (1:17 PM)

Yes. But I still like Luevano to outbox him.

Adam (Las Vegas)

Dan, I saw Zab at the club last night, any word on his next fight?

Dan Rafael
 (1:17 PM)

Perhaps there was one in the parking lot you missed?

Reid (Tulsa)

Do you agree that Klitchko's promoter, Universum has done a stellar job in building them up not only as fighters, but as a brand? The crowd looked electric and sponsors were quite abundant

Dan Rafael
 (1:18 PM)

Maybe you need to catch up a little. Universum hasn't promoted Klitschko for YEARS.

Kinoba (GA)

Hello Dan - do you have any word on when Chris John will be fighting in the US again? Many thanks

Dan Rafael
 (1:18 PM)

He may be back here in his next fight this summer for a rematch with Rocky Juarez.

Kevin (Fall River)

Whatever happened to Legends of the Ring on VS. That was a great show and broadcasted great fights that you can't find on ESPN Classic. Any new ones in the work?

Dan Rafael
 (1:19 PM)

That show ended when Top Rank's contract with Versus ended. Versus no longer has the rights to run the Top Rank-produced shows.

Greg(NYC)

Who do you hate more? Antonio Tarver or Kermit Cintron?

Dan Rafael
 (1:19 PM)

What a dumn thing to ask. I don't hate either of them. Actually, on a personal level I like both of them.

Choco, New Jersey

What is more of a disgrace, that Balszay is fighting washed up 42 year old Maselino Masoe, or that the putrid WBO is sanctioning it as a title fight?

Dan Rafael
 (1:20 PM)

Both unconscionable.

john smith (colfax, WI)

how do you feel about the wnba?

Dan Rafael
 (1:21 PM)

A lot better than I do about the WBA.

Rob (Halifax, Canada)

Zab fight in the parking lot??? Nah, bathroom...maybe

Dan Rafael
 (1:21 PM)

Shower maybe.

Morris (Glendale)

I read that James Toney is now is own promoter? What do you think of that?

Dan Rafael
 (1:22 PM)

It's an absolute joke.

Joel (Woodland, CA)

Watched the Cotto v Cheater on DVR. At one point, Max Kellerman states that although Cotto is hitting Margarito with the harder punches, it is Margarito who is doing all the damage.

Dan Rafael
 (1:22 PM)

And we now know why.

Matt (DC)

Dan, Is Gerry Penalosa HOF caliber if he beats Juan Ma.

Dan Rafael
 (1:23 PM)

I don't think Gerry has done quite enough to warrant the HOF yet.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Happy anniversary, Dan. A buddy of mine (no boxing experience) who is 6'2 220 lbs claims that there is no way that a 108 punder like Calderon could knock him out. I say that my buddy couldn't last 2 rounds. What say you?

Dan Rafael
 (1:24 PM)

I say he wouldn't last one with an experienced, professional fighter.

Zach MPLS

Dan, on the schedule you have the Raul Garcia-Ronald Barrera fight on there twice once on Azteca the other on another date without TV, care to clarify?

Dan Rafael
 (1:25 PM)

There is an error on the sked that will be fixed. The fight is April 4.

Mike

Do you think Forrest will make the Hall of Fame with 1 or 2 more good years?

Dan Rafael
 (1:27 PM)

All depends on what he does. At this point he is not a Hall of Famer.

PeteNice (Philly, Pa)

Dan, have you ever been to Philly to cover fights?

Dan Rafael
 (1:27 PM)

Yes.

Tony (NYC)

Have you noticed that USA Today has limited boxing coverage now? Its mixed with MMA.

Dan Rafael
 (1:28 PM)

Yes, I have. Glad I left when I did.

Cologedo(NJ)

Dan, who would you like Nate Campbell or tim Bradley in a bout

Dan Rafael
 (1:29 PM)

Bradley.

Derek Bronx, NY

If Urango gets the fight with Berto does he have to vacate his IBF title??

Dan Rafael
 (1:30 PM)

No, he would keep it. If Urango lost he would simply return to 140 and keep his title the same way Pavlik did after he lost at 170 to Hopkins and then went back to 160 to defend his title.

USA Today

$500,000 flat rate to come back, whaddya say Dan?

Dan Rafael
 (1:31 PM)

I want a percentage deal.

Boxing to Antonio Margarito

NAH NAH NAH NAH, NAH NAH NAH NAH, HEYYYYYY HEY HEY, GOOOOOOOOODBYYYYYEEEEEE!

Khalil (Atlanta, GA)

Dan, though it can't be proven, percentage-wise, what likelihood do you think Margo had his wraps in plaster against Cotto? Based on the style of the fight and Cotto's face, I'd say 95-5, at least.

Dan Rafael
 (1:31 PM)

I agree. I believe in my heart that he had loaded wraps for that fight.

Hal (Memphis)

Adamek should be grateful to take 500k to fight a 44 year old legend who spent 90% of his career fighting forty pounds South. Hopkins paid his dues, took the short end of the stick for years, and now he has the name. This is Adamek's one chance to get out of obscurity. He should take the fight if offered for free.

Dan Rafael
 (1:34 PM)

You are literally a moron. It's business, not emotion. Adamek owes nothing to Hopkins, who called him out. And the weight difference is not that much since Adamek is a small cruiserweight who fought most of his career at 175. Adamek brings WAY more than $500,000 to the table so why should he allow Hopkins to make $4 millionish off him? You miss the point entirely because Adamek can make $500,000 or so to fight a regular opponent so what is the real incentive to fight Hopkins when Adamek is already champion? Think about it instead of drinking the 2-liter jug of Kool Aid.

John (Boston)

Just watched some highlight of Acelino Freitas, do u think he won the fight with Casamayor?

Dan Rafael
 (1:34 PM)

Defintely. Close, but he won it.

Mike

All I have to say about Hals' comment is WOW.

todd (sf, calif)

hal's an imbecile. adamek's fought tooth and nail to get where he is. he's no hacine cherifi. he deserves respect.

Newt (Jacksonville)

Speaking of Kool-Aid, I hear Sam Peter is lined up to play the Pitcher's body double.

Brian (Texas)

Not defending the actions by Margarito, but by your logic, should Sugar Shane be banned from ever fighting in the US for 'loading up' his body?

Dan Rafael
 (1:38 PM)

We've had this discussion. It's totally different.

Ki (AL)

Hal, get a grip.....

Dan Rafael
 (1:38 PM)

Hal is getting destroyed by the Freaks, If you want to have your message posted though you have to leave out the curse words Freaks. And also -- please -- go easy on the references to Hal's mother.

eric (allentown, pa.)

When I read that comment I thought to myself "there is no way Hal isn't getting banished"

Banishment

Hal tastes like Halibut

Hal (Memphis)

Dan, I think you're letting your bias take over here. You had no problem with De La Hoya getting huge chunks of money to fight champions in other weight classes. Adamek has a fan base, but it is legitimately a TINY one. People know Hopkins, he doesn't have to fight on vs. and ESPN classic. Get a grip, man.

Dan Rafael
 (1:40 PM)

Do the match. Oscar always brought WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more money than his opponent, title or not. Hopkins is the one who called out Adamek AND Adamek brings a substantial amount of money -- the gate, the foreign TV and the title Hopkins covets. You want the title and a big event? You share. You don't act like an absolute pig.

Dan Rafael
 (1:41 PM)

By the way -- When Adamek fought on ESPN Classic he was generating a lot of money in his home country for the fight.

Zach MPLS

Hey Hal, GO TO HAL!!!

josh(newport beach)

Is Floyd Jr. in Debt? What's the deal.

Dan Rafael
 (1:41 PM)

Floyd owes the IRS seven figures according to public records. Last I saw it was a little over $6 million.

todd (sf, calif)

wouldn't adamek likely sell more tickets? bhop has never been a draw and adamek has an absolutely rabid fanbase. not TINY either, by any stretch. the polish come out in droves.

Andrew (Akron)

Cotto-Margarito...... "legendary nights" would be amazing. HBO needs to bring back that show. Agree?

Dan Rafael
 (1:42 PM)

In the immortal words of our HBO broadcast hero: DEFINITELY.

Banishment

I am getting veryy hungry. Time for Hal to get gobbled up.

Matt, LA

Would people be more alarmed if Margs literally came into the ring and was overtly swinging a brick at Shane? Essentially that is what he tried to do. He is at minimum a criminal -- at maximum an psycopath with no worry about potentially killing his opponent.

Mikey (Levittown, NY)

Hal, don't forget Hopkins couldn't sell out an arena or get decent ratings in a huge fight against Calzaghe.

Steve (Beantown)

Guys like Adamek work their whole life to get a big fight and Hal wants him to take it for free. Next time you get a promotion at work you should should take it for free and see how it feels.

Mikey (Levittown, NY)

Jason LeHoullier??? Seriously Vernon, just retire. If you do, the freaks promise not to mention the words "Sergio Martinez" around you.

Sam Peter (Bursting Through Brick Wall)

OH YEAAHHH!!!!

Luis (PR)

Hal needs to meet Mr. Banishment.

Dan Rafael
 (1:44 PM)

Hal, the Freaks have spoken. You're banned dude.

Kyle (Indianapolis)

Adamek could make 500 G's fighting Hal! Hal has to go to Newark though.

Ki (AL)

Hal, give it up. You are wrong, the freaks know, Danno knows, and deep down you know. Ademek is huge in the polish community and draws huge crowds whenever he fights....

Owen: (Sac, CA)

DTM, Why is it so hard for boxers to stay retired or retire(holyfield,Jones, Del hoya)?

Dan Rafael
 (1:45 PM)

Why is it so hard for some of the Freaks to stop asking such bad questions? It is simply what they know how to do.

Timmy (Steubenville OH)

Dan The Man I'm trying to plan this out. If I were to fly down to Vegas for the Hatton fight, what are the odds of being able to get a ticket at a decent/cheap price? My English friends say the economy is hitting England hard and there will be less troubadours proclaiming to the world that there is only one Ricky Hatton...

Dan Rafael
 (1:46 PM)

Probably very good.

Newt (Jacksonville)

Reinstate Hal! He's like the Washington Generals to your Harlem Globetrotters! In the words of a famed philosopher, the world needs ditch diggers, too!

Marc (Malden, MA)

Hal, can you understand this concept? If Adamek can make $500k fighting some stiff, why would he only accept $500k to fight Hopkins?

Ricardo (Bronx, NY)

Hal should stick to talking about Memphis Basketball...which didn't go too well for him either last night.

Sam Peter

BUUUURRRRRRRPPPPPPPP, that means I'm ready for more in Nigerian.

Carlos (Laredo, TX)

Does Golden Boy promotions have Jhonny Gonzalez lined up for any upcoming fights?

Dan Rafael
 (1:47 PM)

He is the mandatory challenger for Nishioka's title and there was a purse bid recently but the date is not set yet.

Ben (New York)

How did Richardson know that there was something in Margarito's wraps? Or did he just make a really lucky (and fortunate) guess?

Dan Rafael
 (1:49 PM)

When he went to the dressing room one of Margarito's hands was already wrapped and he objected to how it was being taped or where the tape was and asked that it be redone. When it was, the tape was removed and the extra insert was discovered, at which point he insisted the other glove, which was already done and signed off on by California officials, be checked also. When that was checked, the other insert was discovered.

Eric (Fayetteville, AR)

DTM, the Freaks are viciuos today.

Dan Rafael
 (1:50 PM)

They're like this every week. You should see the stuff I don't post.

Charles (Philly)

Another point is that B-Hop is not as big of a draw in Philly as one might think. (Although, to be honest, I'm basing that on an abomination of a fight at the old Spectrum against the fleet-footed Frenchman Mourade Hakkar)

Dan Rafael
 (1:51 PM)

I was at that fight and it didn't sell 10 tickets.

Kevin (Chandler, AZ)

Why on Earth is Showtime putting Wes Ferguson on, even on ShowBox?

Dan Rafael
 (1:51 PM)

I have been asking myself the same question.

Dave, NJ

How can Mayweather be in tax trouble? Do boxers get taxes taken out of their paychecks?

Dan Rafael
 (1:51 PM)

No, they are responsible for paying their quarterly taxes as independent contractors.

Miguel Indio CA [via mobile]

Dan the great. When is victor Ortiz fighting next?

Dan Rafael
 (1:52 PM)

Probably Andreas Kotelnik for one of the 140 trinkets.

Matt, LA

I think the freaks should be especially angry today. Instead of gloating over the great fights that started 2009 -- boxing fans have to continuosly try to explain away the actions of one of the sport's elite. Margarito should tarred and feathered...

jack, fort collins

more reckless gambler: floyd mayweather or charles barkley?

Dan Rafael
 (1:54 PM)

Winky Wright.

Isaac (Oxnard Ca)

Dan, with all the boxing people you've met over the years, have you ever been"starstruck" by anybody?

Dan Rafael
 (1:55 PM)

I'm not a starstruck kind of guy but I was once at a party before a fight in the arena in Miami before a fight and I turned around and Roberto Duran was walking over to our group to talk to someone and I was like, "Damn, that's Roberto Duran," who I had never met at that time.

Dan Rafael
 (1:56 PM)

It was at the Trinidad-Thiam fight.

IRS Auditor

No Mr Mayweather, "making it rain" isn't tax deductible...

Romeo (DC)

I know this is early, but is Larry going to be doing the Hatton-Pacquiao PPV, I know Im going to buy it but I'd be happier knowing Im getting Larry too.

Dan Rafael
 (1:57 PM)

Larry is on that show.

bill (carmel, ny)

if margarito ever fights again his nickname should be changed from tijuana thunder to manos de plaster

Dan Rafael
 (1:58 PM)

FYI -- He was Tijuana Tornado.

Ron (Bethel Ct)

Dan the man I need your help...What is your opinion about the undercard oppenents for Soto, Montiel, and Diaz? Are these competitive fights are more of a showcase type of fights?

Dan Rafael
 (1:59 PM)

Soto should whup up on Davis, who is really a featherweight and past his prime. Montiel-Silva seems like a pretty solid fight and Diaz-Castro I am interested in because I have heard so much about Castro but never seen him.

Sean (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

You would think with the size of Floyd's posse there'd be room for at least one accountant.

Darris detroit [via mobile]

I think adamek dawson would be a good fight I don't think the rematch with tarver means a lot

Dan Rafael
 (2:01 PM)

Dude Dawson already schooled Adamek a couple of years ago. I know because I was there and it was on Showtime.

Alex (Cleve, OH)

Forget these boxing questions.... Why don't you have a Wikipedia page?? That's a travesty!!

Dan Rafael
 (2:03 PM)

For what purpose?

Antonio Margarito (Tijuana)

i knew there was a reason why i was the most feared boxer...

Pete, Fairmount, PA

Dan, that starching that Villanova put on Duke last night what would you compare that to in boxing?

Dan Rafael
 (2:05 PM)

I think Villanova players had loaded sneakers.

David (Old Bridge, NJ)

Dan, first of all, happy anniversary. Now that a fight with Adamek is off the table, what about Hopkins vs. Cunningham ? I know you mentioned it a while ago. Cunningham's fight with Adamek was so close, I think that could be a very interesting fight. Thoughts ? Thanks.

Dan Rafael
 (2:06 PM)

Absolutely pointless. No title up. No fans to buy tickets. No TV network interested. A non-starter on PPV. It had a LITTLE magic had Cunningham beaten Adamek. Now it is simply pointless and an economic train wreck to make that fight.

Joe: San Francisco, CA

Before we discuss Hopkins-Cunningham, I'd like to know Hal's opinion on what low ball flat non-negotiable purse Cunningham is entitled to.....

Dan Rafael
 (2:07 PM)

Cunningham is a great guy and a very good fighter, but brings absolutely not one dime to the table.

Tim (Des Moines, IA)

Dan, what did you think of Andy Lee's performance on your one-day Setanta subscription?

Dan Rafael
 (2:08 PM)

I had also watched him live on the net. Andy looked rusty and I was concerned that he was cut in the same place that he had surgery to remove scar tissue. That is not a good sign.

Mike (San Diego, CA)

Dan, I hope I don't get banned for encouraging people not to go to a boxing match, but I'm definitely staying home for this weekend's card in Tijuana and would advise others to do so too. I stopped crossing the border about a year ago. It is just not worth it.

Dan Rafael
 (2:10 PM)

Good call. My man Kevin Iole over at Yahoo! wrote a column on that very topic the other day that is definitely worth a read.

Jonathan (Northern, VA)

Dan, do you get MASN? And if so, is there boxing schedule sporadic or is it a regular part of their broadcast?

Dan Rafael
 (2:11 PM)

I get it. They show some smaller tape delayed shows. For example, I just caught the Jesse Brinkley-Joey Gilbert card on there the other day.

Frank(Phx)

I had a proud Freak moment the other day I wanted to share. My son, who is 21 mo. old, was watching a replay of the JMM/Diaz fight with me and as we were watching he put on a pair of shoes over his hands as if they were gloves and started punching the wall. A new true freak in the making.

Mike (San Diego, CA)

Dan, who would you rather see Andre Berto fight of the names mentioned in your notebook today?

Dan Rafael
 (2:15 PM)

I'd like to see him face Judah or Quintana, but I am cool with Urango. And if they went with Delvin, I know he would fight his butt off as best as he could and make it a fight (and Delvin has sure paid his dues).

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

Buy or Sell: Sam Peter shows up with a yellow moon painted on his stomach and a white star on each breast.

Dan Rafael
 (2:17 PM)

He is Nigerian, not Kamala the Ugandan Giant!

John (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Of course not, Sam's far too heavy to pull off "Kamala".

Mario (Bell Gardens, CA)

Danaconda, I'm a lawyer here in California, and I think that the lawyer who watched Margarito get his hands wrapped needs to be disbarred. I mean, I think everyone suspects at this point his hands were loaded. It would explain how badly Cotto's face looked that day.

Dan Rafael
 (2:20 PM)

Well the commission people then missed it also and they are trained in this stuff, so just relax.

Mike (San Diego, CA)

Dan, from New Jersey, awesome Kamala reference. He was my favorite wrestler for a short time growing up.

Dan Rafael
 (2:21 PM)

I was never a big Kamala fan. My favorite was Superfly Snuka.

Andrew (Providence, RI)

Dan, 2+ hour chat on your anniversary -- awesome. I'm a big Hopkins fan but I think he misread Adamek's value. Adamek probably would have had to take a little less than normal but that flat fee was silly. Any chance Hopkins comes around to a more sensible deal or it is completely dead?

Dan Rafael
 (2:22 PM)

To me the realistic deal was probably a 60-40 split in BHop's favor, since BHop was bringing the HBO money, which was more than the other considerable money Adamek was bringing (plus the title).

Rick Marina, Ca

I was a bigtime Ricky the Dragon Steamboat fan, never gon forget that wrestlmania when he beat Randy Macho Man Savage

Dan Rafael
 (2:23 PM)

I attended WrestleMania 1 at MSG with my father and brother.

Terry Funk (Amarillo, TX)

I'm one of the great wrestlers of ALL time and my induction into the WWE HOF this next weekend proves it!!!

Dan Rafael
 (2:23 PM)

You deserve it after all those sick extreme matches (like those barbed wire fights).

Rick, Marina, Ca

Nice....Have you attended any WWE events recently, (raw, smackdown, ppv's)?

Dan Rafael
 (2:24 PM)

I went to last year's Backlash PPV in Baltimore with my wife and a friend of ours. We had like 6th row seats on the floor. Had a blast.

Bradnon (Chula Vista CA)

Daniel-Son (in Mr. Miyagi accent), Congrats to you and Mrs.King Freak. I will be attending the Winky/ Williams fight. Will you be in the house? What kind of attmosphere do you expect?

Dan Rafael
 (2:25 PM)

I will be in the house. I wouldn't expect a Cotto in MSG atmosphere but hopefully some folks will turn out. Problem is neither guy has a passionate fan base.

Greg (Texas)

D$, What's the latest on Klit-Haye? Is it still more "on" than "off" at this point?

Dan Rafael
 (2:26 PM)

It's going to get done it looks like.

Stephanie (Englewood, NJ)

BACKLASH!!!!!

Dan Rafael
 (2:26 PM)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Mario (Bell Gardens, CA)

Happy Anniversary Danaconda!!! I just got engaged a few weeks ago and my fiance is also a boxing fan. I hope she is as cool with watching boxing as your wife is.

Dan Rafael
 (2:26 PM)

You better find out before you say "I do" dude.

Luis (PR)

DTM, who are you rooting for, HBK or The Undertaker?

Dan Rafael
 (2:27 PM)

As much as love the Sexy Boy, I have to go with my favorite guy -- 'Taker!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke - Danbury, CT

Hey Dan, I follow Delvin Rodriguez very closely as he lives in Danbury. But objectively, I think he'd have a rough time with a puncher like Berto. That said I do think he'd fight his tail off and make a good fight.
