Chat with Scouts Inc.'s Paul Biancardi

Paul Biancardi
  (2:03 PM)

Good afternoon hoop fans. The late signing period is here and there's a lot of speculation on the board today! Let's get right to it.

Sig, New Jersey

Do you think Arizona will be getting any more recruits? If not, do you believe they have a good team to compete in a very young pac10 confrence?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:05 PM)

What's up Sig? I think Miller and his staff in the short time have produced a minor miracle getting Hill back to Arizona and Natyazhko there. Speaking to the UA staff recently, they definitely have holes to fill due the draft and graduation.

Kevin: Ellicott City, Maryland

How much is Lance Stephensons choice riding off of Xavier Henry's Choice. If Henry chooses Kansas where do you believe Stephenson will end up?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:06 PM)

Hi Kevin. I believe Lance is waiting to see where Xavier goes and now it's just about official that Henry and his brother will end up at Kansas. This makes it a two horse race for Lance: St. John's and Maryland.

Will (Lexington, KY)

It's known that U.K. needs John Wall more than Xavier Henry, they we just don't have a PG, but who would make a better player between the two at U.K.?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:07 PM)

Thanks Will. Yes, Kentucky needs John Wall's point guard ability more than they needed Henry at the two guard. The Wildcats need Wall, period.

Greg, Russellville, AR

Is it tre Memphis coach Pastner met with Bledsoe this past week-end and that Bledsoe hass a strong interest in Memphis?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:10 PM)

Greg, I don't know for sure if they met but Memphis needs players especially a PG. I do know that Pastner was recruiting Bledsoe when he was an assistant.

Ben (Greenville, SC)

Hey Reggie, what's the latest on John Wall? Is it a foregone conclusion that this will come down to Kentucky and Duke?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:12 PM)

Hey Ben, those two programs need a PG more than any two High Major teams in the country, so yes. I believe Kentucky and Wall are talking today.

brent erlanger, ky

should kentucky go a head a get bledsoe and quit waiting on wall?so at least they will have a point guard, or is there some one else out there?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:13 PM)

Brent, Bledsoe is a very good point guard in his own right but Wall is outstanding. Kentucky will come up with one of the two.

Mark Dossey (Avon, IN)

Where will the Henry brothers end up...KU or UK?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:13 PM)

Thanks Mark. My sources have confirmed that the Henry brothers will end up at Kansas.

Brandon Lexington Ky

Ok, Henry will probably announce Wed, your thoughts on which school it will be

Paul Biancardi
  (2:14 PM)

Unfortunately for you Brandon it will be Kansas.

Coach K (Durham)

Hey Reggie, what do you think my chances are of landing either Barnes or Knight for the 2010-11 season?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:15 PM)

Coach K, landing Barnes or Knight would getting the cream of the crop. I think you have a good shot at both. Knight has mentioned Duke repeatedly as has Barnes.

Longview, Tx

Is John Wall waiting on an offer from UNC or do you think he already knows where he is going?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:16 PM)

Wall has a very good idea where he's going and so do the people around him. His decision will come soon.

Chinuah T. Spindale, NC

Heard that Lance Stephenson was paid a visit by Coach Gary Williams. Is there still a chance that Lance could end up at Maryland? All things seemed to point St. Johns.

Paul Biancardi
  (2:17 PM)

Hello Chinuah. Yes, Williams was there trying to convince Lance to come to Maryland. It's 50-50 with St. John's now that Kansas is out because of Xavier Henry's commitment.

Cliff (Philly)

Do you think that John Wall will seriously consider UNC once Lawson declares for the draft?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:18 PM)

Cliff, that is probably one of the reasons Wall is waiting, to see what Lawson does. Ty had a great season and should be a 1st round pick.

Mike (Coral Gables)

Wall is visiting Miami this weekend, how much of a chance do the Canes have?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:20 PM)

Mike, I think the 'Canes as of now are on the outside looking in. It's Duke, Kentucky and if Lawson leaves UNC becomes a major player. We'll just have to wait and see.

tate {the other motown]

Hows wvu's upcoming classes lookin?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:23 PM)

Tate, there's only one Motown! WVU's classes look great with the 09 class bringing size with Jennings and Kilicli. Jennings dominates with his size and Kilicli could surprise people. In 2010, Cottrill has a great Bball IQ and can really shoot it from deep. Huggins is stocking up the medecine cabinet there.

Scott(ny) [via mobile]

what percentage chance would you give Lance Stephenson of going to St. Johns and how much do you think he would help the team?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:24 PM)

Scotty, I'll give Lance a 50% chance. He'll be an immediate starter and will bring name recognition to the Johnnies. He'll be a big influence on and off the court.

Greg (CT)

What kind of impact will Alex Oriakhi have on UConn in his first season?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:26 PM)

Greg, I've seen Oriakhi play since he was a soph. He will help tremendously right away. He 's physically ready. With Thabeet and Adrian gone he'll have to be good in order for UConn to be good next year.

ryan louisville, ky

what's UK chance at landing nolan dennis, especially considering they haven't really made a big move towards him?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:28 PM)

Ryan, they have an excellent chance. He was recruited by coach Cal and will obviously fit in with UK's new style of play.

Adam somerset ky

in your opinion were does Wall land

Paul Biancardi
  (2:29 PM)

In my opinion, as of today I would say it's between Kentucky and Duke and I would lean towards the Wildcats. Coach Cal has been recruiting him longer and Wall has openly talked about his affection for Cal.

Chris (PA)

Hey Paul, What are the chances John Wall goes to Duke?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:30 PM)

At the same time, Duke is in Wall's backyard and that could be good for John's followers.

Sean (Lawrence, KS)

Who is going to have a bigger impact next year, Wall or Henry?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:33 PM)

I'd say Wall because Henry's going to Kansas where he'll be very good but with a strong returning group he won't be asked to carry the load. Wall will get the chance for an immediate impact because he'll have the ball in his hands and he'll be desperately needed. The school's he's looking at need a PG. Kansas has the bulk of thier scorers coming back.

kyle Voelker(east lansing, MI)

what's msu's future looking like?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:36 PM)

Kyle, MSU returns a lot and has recruited some terrific size. Garrick Sherman, a promising center and Derrick Nix, a big wide body. There's a great consistency to the Spartans program under Tom Izzo.

Joel (Fayetteville, NC)

Paul, do you remember so much attention and conflicting information following one player as is going on with Wall? I mean even you stated that he is talking with Kentucky today, but the talk in North Carolina today is that he is meeting with Coach K tonight at 6 pm.

Paul Biancardi
  (2:37 PM)

Thanks Joel. That's not uncommon to meet with two schools in one day. He's a special player and he's still undecided, it's late and the highest profile schools in the country are vying for his services. This is the way it's played out for him.

Kerry (DC)

Seriously, do we REALLY need anymore "Where is Wall/Henry going to go" questions??

Paul Biancardi
  (2:39 PM)

Kerry, It's a hot button topic and people are interested in where these two talented kids are going. But we'll shoot for some more variety here.

Brian (Milwaukee)

Can you comment on the recruiting class Buzz Williams has brought in at Marquette? ESPN has them at 13 with no top 50 players.

Paul Biancardi
  (2:41 PM)

Brian, I really like Buzz Williams' class because it's filling need with players that will grow and develop under his staff. Three top 100 players and a pair of JUCO's that should provide an immediate impact on the perimeter where there greatest needs are.

santo, philadelphia

any other recruits peeking at nova in case scottie actually leaves?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:44 PM)

Even if Scottie leaves, 'Nova has plenty coming in Cheek and Wayns and should develop their skill under Jay Wright nicely.

Tarr (Orlando)

What is Wake Forest's future looking like?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:46 PM)

When you look at Wake's class, Ari Stewart stands out. I had a chance to do one of his games on TV and saw him a few other times. He finishes quickly and effectively around the basket and he's developed a jump shot. Stewart's the star but they have some other good ones including C.J. Harris who will replace Teague when he leaves.

John (Memphis)

Will Memphis recover this year from Calipari leaving?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:49 PM)

Well John, not this year. A lot of departures, including Evans and the defection of recruits. But in time, coach Pastner will bring in an abundance of talent to mesh with the returning players and put his stamp on this program. Any time there's a change at the top it takes time to bounce back. But I'm extremely confident in Pastner's ability to coach and recruit. also, his hiring of Wilis Wilson was a slam dunk.

Jon(Fort Wayne, IN)

THE Ohio State is getting in two years the best point guard in the nation, DeShawn Thomas from Bishop Luers High School. How will this 6-7 kid help the Buckeyes.

Paul Biancardi
  (2:51 PM)

Jon, Deshaun Thomas is an outstanding player but he's a four man with terrific skill. Along with Jared Sullinger it's a terrific 1-2 punch but the Buckeyes will need a point guard in this class.

Ty (CT)

What kind of impact do you see this yrs recruits having for Tubby and the Gophs?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:52 PM)

Ty, I think Tubby will continue to upgrade the program. Royce White and Rodney Williams bring inside scoring and tremendous athleticism.

James (Newport Beach, CA)

Who are the best recruits still on the board? Seems like slim pickins for the 2009 class.

Paul Biancardi
  (2:54 PM)

Wall, Stephenson and watch out for Eric Bledsoe from Alabama. He's an outstanding prospect. Also, keep an eye on Daniel Miller who was just released from his Georgia scholarship. Kevin Parrom is also looking at Arizona and some Big East schools. DeShawn Painter is looking at Maryland, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Virginia. And the last guy left is Glenn Bryant who has Arkansas, USF and Detroit.

Nick, Lexington, KY

Hello Paul, Do you think some of the recruits are waiting to sign in order to increase their hype

Paul Biancardi
  (2:57 PM)

I don't think these kids like Wall and Stephenson can increase there hype any more. This is a tough time for them as they have to tell other programs no which can be challenging for an 18 year old.

Matt (Lexington, KY)

When it is all said and done, who do you think ends up with the number 1 recruiting class?

Paul Biancardi
  (2:59 PM)

Matt, let me look in my crystal ball. If Wall goes to Kentucky or Duke then were gonna have to reevaluate things. Kansas makes a huge jump with Xavier.

Paul, what are your thoughts on UCONNs incoming class? also, what are their chances to land knight in 10?

Paul Biancardi
  (3:02 PM)

Scott, I really thing UConn's class is super. Coombs is a winner. Oriakhi inside will be needed desperately. The pickup of Darius Smith didn't get enough publicity. He's one of the best defenders in the class and is a fierce competitor. He has the knowledge and skills to play both guard positions. Hopefully they've been working on Knight because his list is long. UConn's an elite program though so I'd give them a solid chance.

Aaron (Athens,GA)

Paul, is there any chance that new UGA coach Mark Fox can pull in a couple of late recruits for the upcoming year?

Paul Biancardi
  (3:04 PM)

Coach Fox can certainly do it but he's having trouble keeping the one's they have. He may have to bit the bullet this year and focus on 2010. The sate of Georgia is loaded. Any time you lose a coach there's a good chance you'll lose a recruiting class.

jerry phila pa

How much do you think maalik wayns will help villanova and if scottie reynolds stays in the draft what do you think his role will be?

Paul Biancardi
  (3:06 PM)

If Scotty stays in the draft, Wayns becomes the primary ball handler. Although just a freshman he has a high BBall IQ and gets everyone involved. Guys love playing with Wayns. Plus he's a tough Philly kid and a winner.

Paul Biancardi
  (3:09 PM)

Thanks for everyone's question and passion in recruiting. Where will Wall and Lance end up? Check's Recruit Tracker daily on the site to find out.
