Ok, we're heading into the last weekend of the regular season and trying to figure out who is going to make the tournament and who's the last team out. Today, we've got Brown's Jordan Burke and Andrew Feinberg on to talk about their season, Saturday's game with Princeton and much more.
How hard is it to get up emotionally in back to back weeks after beating Cornell? Do you fear a letdown emotionally?
I don't think we are going to let down emotionally this week at Princeton. There is too much on the line for that to happen. We are playing for an Ivy League Championship, a tournament bid, and...it's Princeton
Is it harder to play for the IVY championship when things are expected from you or like last year when you caught everyone by surprise
It was a lot of fun and less pressure last year by catching teams by surprise, but it is more of a challenge this year to try and repeat.
Jordan, I am a goalie and have watched some of your games. I was wondering why do you play with such a high arc? Should I play with a high arc?
Haha, hey Scott. A lot of goalies play with different styles. In high school I played with a really high arc, but I've worked on staying back more in college.
Andrew while you have Jordan sitting next to you, who is the better goalie Jordan Burke or your opponent this weekend, but former teammate in high school and club ball,Tyler Fiorito? I'll take just one name.
They are both great goalies , but Jordan is pressuring me and making me feel awkward to say him, so I have no choice but to say Jordan.
For both of you, what went into your decision to go to Brown?
Brown is a great place both for lacrosse and academically. Once I came and visited campus and got to meet the guys on the team, it was an easy decision for me.
Jordan -- You've got a few IAC guys on the roster at Brown. How often do the results of those games come up in conversation? I'm guessing you heard from the Albans kids after they won the IAC a couple years ago. Also, did you really play intramural ice hockey for four years at Brown?
Yeah, its nice to have a bunch of IAC guys here. But I live with them, and I definitely hear it from them whenever they beat Bullis. St. Albans winning the IAC a few years ago resulted in a lot of S-T-A! chants. I'm just waiting to get back at them. And yes, I played IM hockey and Club Hockey here for four years. It was too tough for me to give up on the sport that I loved first haha
Andrew- The MIAA is up for grabs with Gilman losing. Who do you think is gonna take it? Soar Eagles!
Thats a tough question. I would love to say McDonogh for this one, but I'm going to go with Gilman becuase Matt Chriss hypes them up a lot, and is obsessed with every kid on the team.
Jordan, You are such a great goalie, but I heard you were a better baseball player. How did you discover lacrosse, and why did you start playing goalie?
I'd have to give credit to Duke Dman Tom Clute. He persuaded me to come out and play goalie for the middle school lacrosse team. I'm actually not even sure why I said yes...his wonderful golden lax flow was pretty convincing at the time
Andrew: Where did you learn your moves? What would you do in the MLL freestyle competition if you had a chance?
That's a funny question to ask me because I'm not even sure if I have any moves, but if I had to give an answer I would say my brother. If I got the chance to be in the MLL freestyle competition I would probably pull a couple toddlers out of the crowd and jump over them while doing a behind the back shot that ends up top left.
How important is flow?
Haha, I think flow is an essential part of the game. You have to have at least a few guys on your team with nice flow in order for your opponent to take you seriously. Mine isn't great, but defenseman Peter Fallon has first team all-american flow.
Jordan -- I read an interview with you where you said the wost work experience of your life was working at a car wash. But doesn't your family own a car wash? Was it their car wash that you didn't enjoy?
Haha, yeah it was my family's car wash. What can I say, my dad is a tough boss. He does what he needs to do to get the cars clean though! So if you need a wash, I suggest going to him. (I'll take 10% profit for the plug Dad)
Jordy, do you really like nicholas backstrom more than Alex Ovechkin?
Backstrom plays more of like the way I played hockey...a pass-first guy with unreal vision, haha. I couldn't pick a favorite, but I like the combination of a Backstrom pass to an Ovechkin goal more than anything else. Especially if it happens against the Penguins
Jordan and Andrew, If you knew you were definitely in or definitely out of the tournament, would it change your mindset going into the game? As it is, where do you think the team's head is at?
I don't think it would change our mindset at all. Our first goal is to win an Ivy League Championship, so it is all on the line for us this weekend. Knowing that if we win, we are in the tournament may just give us some extra incentive. We are fired up and ready to go.
Hey Jordan, I am thinking about switching to goalie, but am worried I might not be able to take some of the shots. What is the hardest you have ever been hit with a ball and who shot it? Ever bend a facemask?
Don't worry Joe, you'll be fine. After you get hit in one spot, it doesn't hurt the next time. I'm not sure what the hardest shot thats hit me was. In high school I had a bruise from a couple shots from my chest to my elbow. And I did have one shot bend my facemask. I had to hammer it back into place at halftime.
Feinberg, do you think you can beat [Brown coach] Lars [Tiffany] one on one?
I heard he is nothing without any help defense. I'd feel pretty confident taking Lars one on one.
Who is the best Chas in Brown lax history? Woodson or Gessner?
Well Gess fan, Gessner was the best Chas. Woodson was the best Chazz though. Easy answer.
Andrew, What do you choose to wear on game day? Any headbands or sweatbands? Where do you get your style?
WOW. I wear nothing special on game days besides my jersey. I get my style from my father.
Andrew and Jordan.......The Hills or The City?
The HIlls no doubt. Nothing compares to Laguna Beach though. Good question
I watch Sportscenter...
The team has remained healthy throughout the season is that a credit to your hard strength and conditioning program in the off season? Or is it just luck?
A little bit of both Rog. We work hard in the weight room with our strength and conditioning coaches. But we're fortunate to be able to stay healthy for the most part. We did lose Captain Todd Faiella to an achilles injury early in the year though.
I've been working on my bounce shot, but it seems in the college game that bounce shots are rare. Should i be working on my high heat?
I suggest you should keep working on your bounce shot as well as your high heat. A shot you should start working on is a low to high rip aimed for the top left corner.
Hey Feinberg who is the best defenseman you have faced in your career?
I'd have to say Alex Lyons from Boys Latin School in Maryland. He knew how to shut me down.
What is your major and what are your plans after you graduate?
I am a Business Economics major. Still looking for a job, so if you know anybody, send me their email so I can give them my resume.
Andy, whatsup great job this season ...are you lookin forward to some summer lax with BELAX this summer and being done with school?
Yes. The best part of my summer is playing Lacrosse under Joel Franklin and Cliff Perlow for BELAX.
If we played you in the tourny, petro will start me and I will dominate.
I'm not sure if that's a question. But I do look forward to that Steven. Could we at least hug after the game?
For either one of you guys -- do you think you're in the NCAA Tournament regardless of whether you win or lose this weekend?
Depends on what happens in the conference tournaments. It's too hard to tell right now. Hopefully.
I'm trying not to think about that. Right now, we know that if we beat Princeton then we get the AQ, so we are focusing on that.
Ok, so we'll end it there. Thanks again to everyone who left questions - we got a ton in. Check out Brown vs. Princeton on Saturday at 1 p.m. by logging on to InsideLacrosse.com. We'll have all the action from that game and from around the country, as well as updated Bracketology throughout the weekend. See you next week.
