Chat with Keith Law

Keith Law
  (12:01 PM)

Give me a second - I'm trying to figure out how to send Roger Clemens a textbook on Punnett squares.

Onan (Atlanta, GA)

Hey Keith! 2 Quick draft question... I noticed that ESPN (and you) have lists of prospects and rankings and what not...but do you have something that lists out and matches which teams will pick and when? Or what pick teams will most likely make? Thanks!

Keith Law
  (12:05 PM)

It's just way too early for a mock draft unless you want something pulled out of my ... ascot. Outside of #1 (Strasburg) and maybe #2 (they're trying to work something out with Ackley), it's just some preferences now. Example: San Diego likes Grant Green, but Tate and Gibson are in their mix and they may be warming on Crow. Oakland has strong interest in Matt Hobgood. Atlanta's top three seem to be Matzek, Zack Wheeler, and Shelby Miller (who was apparently nails in front of a big crowd the other night). And so on. But a projection now would be absurd. After the conference tournaments, I'll start doing projections.

nick (sfo)

Brett Cecil or Ricky Romero?

Keith Law
  (12:05 PM)

Cecil.

Dennis: (Athens, OH)

In a recent article, Peter Gammons said that two "delivery experts" predicted arms problems for Mark Prior, and that his injuries were NOT Dusty Baker's fault. This goes counter to everything I've read, including that Prior had a dream delivery. Gammons didn't give any more detail than that, but your thoughts?

Keith Law
  (12:08 PM)

I didn't see Peter's article, but I think you're asking two separate questions. Did some pitching guys not like his delivery? Yes. Does that absolve Dusty Baker of blame? No; he worked Prior hard, and often, when Prior was clearly fatigued. Prior had not had arm trouble before the slagging, and he was never the same afterwards. That's not a coincidence.

Timmy L. San Francisco

Why does Billy Beane get so much credit for only winning one playoff series in his tenure? I am very tired of the market/budget constraints excuse.

Keith Law
  (12:09 PM)

Who gives Billy credit for only winning one series? Are you saying he'd get less credit if he won two? "Man, it takes a great general manager to win exactly one playoff series. A lesser GM would have won more." By the way, playoff series results are a near-crapshoot. You're about a decade behind.

Eric (Northampton, PA)

What do you make of Jordan Schafer so far? His strikeouts are out on control.

Keith Law
  (12:10 PM)

They rushed him, badly, and it's no surprise to anybody. He's great defensively, but I think there's always a chance with a hitter who's rushed like this that he won't quite recover at the plate. They rushed Francoeur, and he's gotten worse every day since 2005.

Rod Wausau Wi

With the #5 pick would the Orioles be better off taking SS Grant Green or continue to add to the pitching {Crow. Etc

Keith Law
  (12:12 PM)

I don't see Green as a good top ten pick. He's not a shortstop, first and foremost, so if you're thinking the Orioles should take him because they need a SS, he's not your answer. Second, where does he go? At third base, he won't have enough power. Jason and I both think he could work out in center, but that's a big risk. If he has to go to an outfield corner, he's probably not an everyday player. Don't get me wrong - he's not a zero, but there's a significant risk with him.

Andrew (Nashville)

It's probably too early to ask this, but do you think Strasburg will take a long time to sign? We are talking Boras after all, so it can't be fairly easy, right?

Keith Law
  (12:14 PM)

It could drag on til 8/15, sure. That really doesn't matter in the long run.

Brandon (Nashville, TN)

Brendan Ryan comes of the DL soon. Do you think Kozma (one of your inexplicable callups) goes back to High A when T.Greene goes back to AAA and Folli to AA or do they leave Kozma in AA now that he's there.

Keith Law
  (12:15 PM)

In a tiny sample, he hasn't showed he was ready for AA, and he wasn't exactly great in high-A, so I'd send him back down.

Gavin (San Diego)

Klaw, is Tate to the Pads a real possibility or is the team brass just blowing smoke to appease the locals? It would be a drastic shift from the way they've been doing business...

Keith Law
  (12:17 PM)

I know there's an element in their org that knows they lack athleticism in their system and sees him as the best guy in that class this year. However, their decision-making process is balkanized, and I'm not sure Tate is really the best pick at #3, either.

Kevin ( Plano, Texas)

I saw that high school pitcher Matt Purke had about 75 strikeouts in 60 something innings that doest seem good for a guy who could be drafted in the first out of HS. Am I wrong?

Keith Law
  (12:18 PM)

I don't use HS stats - you don't know about levels of competition, ballparks, weather, etc. At the HS level, it's about scouting reports, and if you get a look at a kid against particularly good competition, you might give that performance some consideration.

Kevin (Boston, MA) [via mobile]

Keith, would the Red Sox be better off right now by calling up Buchholz and sending Masterson back to the bullpen, then waiting and seeing what happens when Daisuke/Smoltz are ready?

Keith Law
  (12:19 PM)

I think that's the ultimate alignment, but Masterson's holding down the fort right now. I don't think they'd be much better off with him in the pen and Buchholz in the rotation unless Masterson's performance declines.

Andrew (Nashville)

Another big night for Reimold at Norfolk. Where do you see his ceiling -- .270/.350/.475?

Keith Law
  (12:20 PM)

Might be more like .375/.450 than .350/.475. Really like him, but his ceiling is probably a 55 rather than a 60.

Jeff (Sacramento, CA)

Keith, Based on your experience and what you've seen and heard from people within the game, do you have any opinions about at what age kids should start throwing breaking pitches?

Keith Law
  (12:20 PM)

Senior year of high school.

MJ (edmonton)

No baiting, honest, but did you expect Alexei to be THIS bad?

Keith Law
  (12:21 PM)

No, not given what he did last year. But when you're dealing with someone who has no idea of the zone, this can happen. I just wouldn't have predicted it.

Eric (Atlanta)

They rushed McCann. Certainly didn't seem to hurt him.

Keith Law
  (12:22 PM)

McCann had half a season in AA and a significantly better approach at the plate. I don't think he was rushed.

Fernando Martinez (NY Mets)

Will the Mets ever bring me up?? Have the Mets over hyped me??

Keith Law
  (12:22 PM)

Yes. No.

Jeff (Los Angeles, CA)

Keith, are there any hitters that may crack the Top 10 draft picks besides Ackley, Green and Tate? All the draft lists seem to show a heavy supply of pitchers, but very few hitters at the top of the draft.

Keith Law
  (12:24 PM)

Washington was linked to Poythress earlier this spring, and Detroit's in on Wil Myers and Mike Trout at 9. I do think we'll see 7-8 pitchers in the top 10.

Eric (Atlanta)

Hey Keith, I disagree with your comparision on Schafer/Francoeur. Schafer is walking. Francoeur NEVER did. I don't think you can compare the two. Schafer is going to be a much more valuable big league player than Francoeur. Yes, that isn't a stretch, but I think you get me.

Keith Law
  (12:25 PM)

Schafer's walking in large part because he's hitting 8th and he's being pitched around to get to the pitcher.

Carl (Malibu, CA)

Correct me if I'm wrong Keith, but I think I've seen Boras aligned with the best college RHP (Strasburg), possibly the best college LHP (Paxton or Oliver), the best college hitter (Ackley), the best high school hitter (Tate), and one of the top high school RHP (Turner). Does he pretty much control the draft this year?

Keith Law
  (12:27 PM)

Paxton > Oliver. And yes, he's got a ton of influence over the draft this year. With his guys, Scheppers, Crow, and Purke - at the least - all expected to aim for over-slot bonuses (two agents have told me in the last week that "slot is dead"), it's possible that the draft will sort itself more normally because there aren't that many good first-round picks who'll take slot bonuses.

Steve (Erie, PA)

Any good SS for the Pirates to pick up in the draft? Or do you see them reaching for another middle reliever again...

Keith Law
  (12:28 PM)

It's a horrific middle infielder crop, and I don't think there's a viable SS for them at 4. In the second and third rounds they look at Chris Owings, Deven Marrero, Stephen Perez, etc., but I don't think that's what you're asking about.

Ryan (Pittsburgh)

What's the more impressive streak: Ryan Zimmerman's 30 game hitting streak or teammate Cristian Guzman's 0 walks in 96 plate appearances?

Keith Law
  (12:28 PM)

Guzman's. That takes real effort. I talked on AllNight last week about some of the random guys who've had 30-game streaks ... and how hitting streaks bore me.

Angry Dan (DC)

Hey KLAW, miss me? Ross Detwiler is pitching very well at AA lately -- but hasn't gone past the 5th inning -- is it just a pitch count issue?

Keith Law
  (12:29 PM)

I don't know the answer to that, but I hope the turnaround is legit. Liked him quite a bit at the time they took him.

Wayne (Toronto)

When do the Jays pick? and what kind of player would they be looking for? SS?

Keith Law
  (12:30 PM)

#20. Very few teams look for a specific position, and I don't think Toronto will do that. They're less likely to take a HS pitcher than other teams, but I know they've scouted that crop more heavily than at any time since the start of the Ricciardi era.

Sam (Chicago)

I know its early, but are you going to the All-Star game in STL? And if so what are you going to eat? Imos?

Keith Law
  (12:30 PM)

Futures Game. And I'm up for suggestions.

Andrew (Nashville)

So where are all the Mets fans saying David Wright needs to be traded now?

Keith Law
  (12:31 PM)

Looking for a new target for their screeds.

Mike Chicago

What should Dusty exactly have done different with Prior? We were realistically going for the Series in 2003 and he Prior missed a lot of time on the DL that year.

Keith Law
  (12:31 PM)

Not worked him so deep into games that were already decided.

Max, NY, NY

Hey there. What do you think ETA on Smoak and Viciedo might be...? Danke.

Keith Law
  (12:34 PM)

I imagine both will be up this year.

Ryan (Hamilton)

Do you think Adam Lind is legit and has shedded any questions about being a Quad A guy, or do you think he's been playing above his head?

Keith Law
  (12:34 PM)

This is what I always believed he would be. He can hit.

Brandon (Nashville, TN)

When will you hear about signability from some of the HSers and draft eligible sophomores? Heard rumors that Jacob Turner could fall b/c of it.

Keith Law
  (12:35 PM)

Turner's a Boras advisee. Alvarez and Hosmer were too, and they commanded big bonuses and didn't fall, so I wouldn't read too much into that. I think I listed the players whom I believe will want above-slot bonuses in an earlier answer, but there will probably be more to come.

Jason (Atlanta)

Follow up on Smoak. Not to say he couldn't use some more development time in the minors, but would he be an improvement over Davis right now?

Keith Law
  (12:37 PM)

I think he would be. Adam Morris of Lonestarball and I had a back-and-forth on this; he thinks that Davis' cold start is just that, and that moving Smoak up now would be rushing him. I could argue for splitting the baby, putting Smoak in AAA, and giving Davis another 100 PA (he has been better lately, although he could still sub in for a broken wind turbine on off days).

Seth (augusta, ga)

Cody Johnson hit his 12th homer of the year last night. Is he ever going to make enough contact to make use of all that power and become an everyday LF for the Braves?

Keith Law
  (12:37 PM)

I think he's just a good minor-league slugger.

Andrew (Nashville)

By the way, the Trader Joe's potato chips are called "BBQ Popped Potato Chips" -- and they're excellent. And I know you've been high on Adam Jones, but you certainly couldn't have anticipated this explosion, right? What is his ceiling -- .290/.350/.500?

Keith Law
  (12:38 PM)

Ceiling is higher than that - more average, more power. And great defense.

Doug (NY)

Keith, not sure I've seen your take on what the Yanks should do with Montero. Try to make it work with him behind the plate as that's where he'd have the most value... or move him now since it's basically a foregone conclusion that he won't be a catcher and his bat'll be up in the majors sooner this way?

Keith Law
  (12:38 PM)

Always leave a guy at the tougher position until he proves he can't do it. If you draft Grant Green, you let him play short until he plays himself off of it.

Matt (Brooklyn)

Hochevar got rocked by the A's last night (THE A's!?), but seemed to be having a real good start in the minors. Is he going to: (a) get a chance to stick in the rotation or will the Royals panic and cut bait; and, (b) have a solid season in Kansas City? He HAS to be better than Ponson, right?

Keith Law
  (12:39 PM)

He's better than Ponson. He's going to end up a good 5th starter or an okay 4th starter.

Mike ( NY)

I know players can't be traded until 1 year after they sign, but if the Nationals decide Boras is asking too much for Strasburg, can the Nats either work out a handshake deal or a player to be named later deal to consummate 1 year after he signs?

Keith Law
  (12:40 PM)

Absolutely against the rules. Not to mention stupid for the acquiring team - you're going to agree to give something up for a player the Nats get to mishandle for an entire year?

Kathy(Toronto)

Can the Jays play like this all year? Will they win the East or take the wildcard?

Keith Law
  (12:40 PM)

No ... and no.

Brian (Brooklyn)

Between the economy hurting team's spending and the fact that it isnt a great draft shoudlnt players and advisor be happy with slot money?

Keith Law
  (12:42 PM)

Indications are that few teams if any are ratcheting down draft spending this year, although I figure McLane will wait the other 29 teams break ranks and slotting is nothing more than a corpse in full decomp before he goes over slot.

Steve (Issaquah, Wa)

Keith, Word is that the Mariners are going to put Phillipe Amounte in the bullpen, meaning each of their last 3 first round picks are in the bullpen, what is going on with them?

Keith Law
  (12:42 PM)

If they do take Ackley and put him in the pen, then you can worry.

Andy (Philly)

Why do you think Tanner Scheppers seems to be getting more hype than Aaron Crow? Wasn't Crow better than Scheppers before Scheppers' injury last year?

Keith Law
  (12:44 PM)

Scheppers threw more this spring, and threw well in some scrimmages, which boosted his hype. I think Scheppers was probably ahead of Crow pre-injury anyway, but what he did this April helped, too.

Dave (Hartford, CT)

KLaw - Boy that Marco Scutaro is a scrappy little player. Where do you think the clutchiness is coming from this year? (Where do I send the $5 to again?) Unrelated, is Chris Carpenter showing signs of what made him a possible 1st round pick and is he moving up the Cubbie prospect list?

Keith Law
  (12:45 PM)

I need to repost that GlobalGiving project for Klawbait payments - I'll put it on the dish later. Carpenter: D1 product still showing iffy command/control in low-A - that's not progress to me, except that he's healthy.

Andy (Philly)

I've heard multiple comps for Dustin Ackley, one being Todd Helton. How good is Ackley's bat and who do you think he compares to?

Keith Law
  (12:45 PM)

I'm not ignoring this, but I'm supposed to see him tomorrow, so I'll defer until then. I believe he'll be in CF.

Bill (Chicago)

Have you seen any footage of Derrek Lee's swing? To the untrained eye, it looks like he can't catch up to fastballs even when he knows one is coming. Is DLee's long swing too slow at age 33?

Keith Law
  (12:46 PM)

He's lost some bat speed, definitely.

Darryl (Oakland, CA)

I can't remember if JD Drew was a Boras client or not, but I still can't stand Drew for acting like he deserved anything when he never proved anything. He's still not anywhere near worth what he's been getting paid. I suppose players will try to get the most out of the teams that draft them. Has there been a risidoul effect whatsoever after the JD Drew debacle?

Keith Law
  (12:48 PM)

So, the next time you change jobs, should your next employer offer you minimum wage and refuse to pay you more until you've worked there a few years and proven your value? I'm tempted to write "$5" because it boggles my mind that anyone could be this dense - Drew was trying to get a payout commensurate with the actual value the market would place on his services. You saw what Travis Lee and Matt White got as free agents right out of school. The draft severely suppresses player signing bonuses. Stop talking about it in moral terms like "deserved" and "proved." The player should be paid what the market will offer him, period.

Adam (Italy)

What are your thoughts on how the A's rookie pitchers have done so far? Do Cahill's struggles (his peripherals have been awful so far) give you any reservations about his ability to succeed in the future?

Keith Law
  (12:49 PM)

He and Anderson are both so young that I'm not going to overreact to struggles in a season when other teams would probably have sent them to AA. I also wouldn't be surprised if either or both improved as the season went on.

Jason (Nashville)

I love how people bash Drew for using his leverage to get the most money people were willing to pay him.

Keith Law
  (12:50 PM)

It's jealousy, pure and simple. There's no other explanation I can see.

chris *yorktown NY)

Is Ryan Zimmerman finally living up his hype or is this just a really hot streak?

Keith Law
  (12:50 PM)

It's just a really hot streak.

James (Pittsburgh)

Alveraz is striking out a ton and putting up some crappy numbers. Too early to get worried or should we be happy that Steelers camp opens up in a few weeks?

Keith Law
  (12:51 PM)

Too early, and he is (or was, I haven't checked in a while) hitting well against RHP. He always had the big platoon split in college, which is a major reason I preferred Smoak, so it's not a surprise that it's carrying over.

Adam (Texas)

Smoak vs. leftys: .219/.265/.313 yuck.

Keith Law
  (12:52 PM)

True, but with a much higher contact rate, and no history of this kind of split.

Andy (Philly)

Do you like Max Stassi or Wil Myers more? Stassi's got his pluses, but you gotta love Myers' athleticism and adaptability.

Keith Law
  (12:53 PM)

Myers. Stassi's run into some minor shoulder stuff that has impacted his throwing, and he was more of a bat than a glove/arm to begin with. I've gone back and forth on that one a lot.

Matt (Philly)

What do you think about the Phillies AA pitcher Vance Worley?

Keith Law
  (12:53 PM)

Good arm in college, very good reliever candidate. Had some makeup questions that helped him slide.

Keith (Saratoga)

What's the best case scenario for the Braves at #7, other than the trivial "Strasburg falls" non-issue?

Keith Law
  (12:54 PM)

If I'm right about those three prep arms being the top/near the top of their board, I think they're at least 75% likely to get one of them, and have a very good shot at a choice. I understand they like Purke as well.

Will (Milwaukee)

Who are the top 5 or so draft-eligible sophomores?

Keith Law
  (12:55 PM)

Davis and LeMahieu have been bad and horrible, and they were the top two coming in. I think Storen is the top one on my board now.

D.Brown (Clearwater,FL)

Who's better me or Fernando Martinez?

Keith Law
  (12:56 PM)

Martinez.

Kevin (San Diego)

Keith, who would you pick at #3 if you were the Padres SD?

Keith Law
  (12:57 PM)

If Ackley's gone, probably the best prep arm available - Turner if I have the budget. Could make cases for Paxton or Scheppers, but I think I'd lean towards the HS arms. If not Turner, Matzek/Wheeler/Miller.

Dave (Manhattan)

With Delgado hurt, is now the time to try the Murphy 1B / Fernando Martinez LF experiment that we know is coming?

Keith Law
  (12:57 PM)

Sure.

john (mpls)

Keith, one Indians question for the road! What do you think of Shapiro moving Rondon to the pen to help the MLB team in 09. I'm not a fan.

Keith Law
  (12:58 PM)

Breaking him into the majors as a reliever is fine with me. I was surprised that they converted him in AA - is there anything to indicate that moving a guy to the pen before recalling him leads to a better/faster transition? I don't know.

Tim (Chicago)

Rickie Weeks is playing over his head right now .274/.338/.504. What's his ceiling, .240/.360/.420?

Keith Law
  (12:59 PM)

His ceiling is higher than what he's doing right now. You are severely underestimating his tools.

DJ (Milwuakee)

Re: Drew, I don't think it's jealousy at all. There's a quasi-militaristic thing going on in sports. You are JV, or a rookie, you have to carry people's water. So people think you have to pay dues before you earn big. They don't see it as a pure market situation, which, of course, it is/should be.

Keith Law
  (12:59 PM)

OK, that's a good alternate theory. I would buy that.

Rod (Chicago, IL)

How high will the PR outfielder Ray Fuentes (Carlos Beltran's cousin) go?

Keith Law
  (12:59 PM)

I've heard he could sneak into the first round.

Andy (Philly)

Jacob Turner's risen that much? I didn't think he was quite in the conversation for top prep arm.

Keith Law
  (1:00 PM)

Last three outings, he topped at 98, 96, and 97.

Jeff (NYC)

Thoughts on Cameron Maybin getting demoted? Is he a breakout candidate for next season or are you not a fan?

Keith Law
  (1:01 PM)

I like the tools, I question the offspeed recognition and the length of his swing. I definitely would not give up on him as a fan.

Omri (New York, NY)

I'm just about to start watching the Mets game on SNY. Not sure you've ever watched the broadcast but if you have what do you think about the Mets broadcasters (Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, and Gary Cohen)?

Keith Law
  (1:02 PM)

When I watch baseball on TV, I have the sound off, unless it's Vin Scully talking.

Andy (Baltimore)

How does Andy from Philly get 4 questions answered? Thoughts on Troy Patton, coming off the SLAP injury, getting off to a fast start at AAA Norfolk?

Keith Law
  (1:02 PM)

Would like to be optimistic but I haven't heard where his velo is yet.

Tyler (Calgary)

Can you think of any comparable irony to fans complaining that the millionaire players that actually play the game we love to follow are taking money away from the billionaire owners? I've never once heard someone complain that Tom Hanks is taking money away from Miramax or that Eminem is screwing over Sony.

Keith Law
  (1:03 PM)

Another good point.

YJ (Atlanta)

Please call Bobby Cox and beg him to bench Francoeur. He will neither selective nor patient in batter's box. I give up.

Keith Law
  (1:03 PM)

Hey, it's only been 800 PA of a sub-.290 OBP. Small sample, right?

Carlos Carrasco (?)

Do I exist? Everyone's been talking about me for about 5 years. The Phils' rotation has been questionable for about 5 years. I haven't seen the light of day.

Keith Law
  (1:04 PM)

Well, the 6+ ERA in AAA isn't helping, even with the sound peripherals. I imagine you'll be up the next time you string together 3-4 good starts.

Adam J. Morris (Houston, TX)

Thanks for the plug -- are the Rangers legit contenders in a weak AL West this year, or do you see them dropping out of the hunt before the trade deadline?

Keith Law
  (1:06 PM)

They're legit, if only because the division is so bad. I wouldn't rule any of the four teams there out.

Brett (WI)

Maybe a dumb question, but can we be debating Green or Mier by now?

Keith Law
  (1:07 PM)

For me, they're pretty close; with the new emphasis on defense and the success teams have had in dropping RA by improving their defense, Mier's a lot more valuable than you might think. He can play ss, and I think he could grow up to be plus.

Andy (Philly)

Is Jeff Malm, the prep first baseman from Nevada, a legit draft prospect? He's playing on a powerhouse team at Bishop Gorman.

Keith Law
  (1:08 PM)

Andy's having a good day. Yes, 4th-5th round, maybe 3rd. I wrote him up with video on the draft blog in March.

Kevin (Boston, MA) [via mobile]

I think fans think that the high player salaries cause ticket prices to go up, not realizing that fans paying money to see the best players cause high ticket prices, and that owners wouldn't lower ticket prices just because salaries are lower.

Keith Law
  (1:08 PM)

Another solid point.

Andy (Philly)

Do you think Devan Marrero is right behind Jiovanni Mier for best shortstop? It seems like a pretty good prep shortstop class this year beyond the first round.

Keith Law
  (1:09 PM)

Big gap between those two guys for me. Marrero is closer to Owings and Perez than he is to Mier.

Keith Law
  (1:09 PM)

I think I have five shortstops on my top 100. That is atrocious.

keith law cooking fan boy

rank em: corn, wheat, quinoa, oats, barley, millet, rice

Keith Law
  (1:10 PM)

Wow. Oats, corn, wheat, rice, barley, quinoa. Never had millet. Quinoa is such a PITA to cook.

Kent (San Francisco)

KLAW, love the chats. An LA writer floated the idea of a Jonathan Sanchez for Brandon Wood swap. Just an idea, not a real rumor. If that was actually discussed, who wold hang up first - Reagins or Sabean?

Keith Law
  (1:11 PM)

Sabean, I'd guess. If you're not going to play Wood over .550 OPS-boy there at third, you might as well trade him to fill the pitching need.

Tony (Columbus)

Klaw, the Reds badly need a pitching prospect...who do you think will be available to them at #8? I know, this question is irrelevant since we'll draft another lefty 1B.

Keith Law
  (1:12 PM)

A couple of the prep kids will be there. Paxton might. Leake should be, and Gibson probably will. Alex White might be. If I had to guess, I'd attach them to a pitcher now.

Pete (Philly)

Thoughts on the Phillies 2 OF prospects Michael Taylor and Dominic Brown...reason to be excited?

Keith Law
  (1:13 PM)

Definitely. Tools guys who are figuring it out (or maybe already have). Love those guys.

Michael (SLC)

Klaw, thanks for the chat. Has Matthew Purke fallen out of the ranks of the top HS pitching prospects? I have heard more on Matzek and Turner these days than Purke.

Keith Law
  (1:13 PM)

That's certainly my opinion - I have Purke 4th in the class, and I know I flipped him and Wheeler a few times.

Andy (Philly)

Does Chris Dwyer's status as a draft-eligible freshman give him as much leverage as a prep?

Keith Law
  (1:16 PM)

Why not close with an Andy question. (What can I say? He asked about the draft.) He's like a DE sophomore; I can't see him arguing for two years of extra eligibility just to end up 23-year-old junior with three years of heavy college work on his arm already.

Keith Law
  (1:17 PM)

Thanks for the questions. I'll be adding to the draft blog regularly from here on out. Next week's chat is tentatively scheduled for Friday the 22nd, and I'll be on our Atlanta radio affiliate today at 4:30 pm.
