Good morning once again gang. What's the good word? We've got an hour of fantasy baseball goodness to get to... so let's get started!
What 2B are available in most leagues after Weeks went down with that wrist injury?
Obviously that's a league-by-league kind of deal. Certainly the season-ending surgery news is a huge blow to Weeks owners. You might be able to get a Scutaro or Theriot type of player, but it's not going to be easy to fill the void.
Big Tex has what, 4 bombs since you ranked Michael Young higher than him for the rest of the way. Last chance to take it back and beg forgiveness?
Yeah, I'm really crying that Young has raised his average from .328 to .351 in the past week. What a horrible player he is.
Joey Votto...will he be back this week?
Really hard to tell considering nobody knows what exactly is wrong with him. Assume he's out until at least Thursday and hope for the best...
Seriously...is Alex Rios a sell high?
I think Rios is about where he should be... making him not so much a sell high, as a trade for better value only - but no need to trade him if you like what you're getting from him.
Sell high? I'm playing out of my brain!
True, you are playing out of your brain... but as in all such cases, why not enjoy it? I'm not saying you don't want to deal him if somebody is willing to give you top price and then some for Bartlett, but if you don't think he's for real, what makes you think anyone else is going to either?
With Perkins hitting the DL this morning, you think it'll be Swarzak or Mulvey to take his rotation spot?
Not sure it will be either, at least the first time around. I wouldn't be shocked if they go the Mulvey route, mind you, but more likely would be for Dickey to get the call on Saturday.
Taking injuries into the equation, who do you want long-term? J Cruz, Hawkins, or Bailey?
Bailey for me. I don't think Hawkins has value if Valverde comes back healthy and Cruz is due to get tagged big time.
what is my value going forward? berry and negative nate think i am droppable. what say you oh fearless one?
Wow! I really have to start downloading AND listening if Matt and Nate are talking about the value of Rebecca from St. Louis.
I'm back! So far, you're right about Halladay over Santana. However, Wright is really raking so I'll call it even for now. What about our boy Reyes? Do you see him hitting the DL?
Oh, goodie - a running day-to-day tally of two arbitrary selections from the May rankings! Can't wait! As for Reyes, he should be back tonight - and he better be, since otherwise Mets fans will be forced to deal with the impact of the DL-stint of Alex Cora.
Who do you like better at Catcher? Suzuki or Barajas?
I like Kurt better, though neither backstop is super-impressive. In many ways it's a "reverse West coast bias" where I see more of Barajas, so my opinion of him is based on what I've seen, while I don't get as many looks at Suzuki, so I have only the numbers to go on.
Aj, Freddy sanchez or Polanco at 2b?
Sanchez. At least there's more of a chance at HR and SB there.
AJ, you seem a little cranky...up all night worrying about American Idol? Or is it Dancing with the Stars that's got you schvetzing?
No, just devastated we didn't find out who "Gossip Girl" really is last night!
Out of the following pitchers on the DL, who do you think will have the best end of the year stats?: Smoltz, Wang, Escobar, Duchscherer? How would you rank em?
Escobar -1, Wang - 2 (Yankees need to have him in there, so he'll get the IP) Still not sold we see the other two.
Nick Swisher: slumping or are we seeing his true colors?
Closer to true colors. I think the great April was impossible to maintain for Swisher, especially with BA, but I don't think he's going completely in the tank either.
Which is the better OF half to own for the rest of the year: Markakis and Magglio Ordonez or ibanez and Torii Hunter?
I'd have to go with Raul and Torii... Magglio is LOST himself right now. (See what I did there?)
Stop straddling me with your responses.
You know, love me or hate me, I think the one thing we can all agree on is that I'm far from a straddler, good sir Fence.
NAME GAME:Wandy or Carpenter from here on out?
Wandy. He's a top-10 pitcher in my book. Carpenter could well get back to that level at some point, but the injury risk is great, and I think we don't see him at that level until 2010.
Blue Jays Fantasy Value:(BJFV) sell them all cuz theyre at the highest theyll be or hold em cuz theyre for real?
Dave, how many Jays do you have? If you have six hitters from one lineup, you should sell on general principles just to spread the risk around. But, do I think as a team they'll continue to hit close to .290? No.
Hey, thanks for the tip to pick up Crapasspo.
What's with the names, MC? Last 7 games Alberto hitting .421 with 4 RBIs... so you're welcome.
Johnny Cueto...for real or crashing back to earth soon?
I think he's got room to do even better than he has so far, as long as a certain manager doesn't start interfering with whatever it is he's done to get back on track...
You starting Scott Baker tonight? The South Side Sox barely hit above the Mendoza line against him, but somehow they still light him up. Think he stays away from the HRs tonight?
It's always risky to try and pick which night a pitcher has his *super-dud* outing of the year. If Baker does well tonight, it's not in line with how his 2009 has gone so far, so I personally wouldn't start him - since I personally wouldn't own him.
Derek Lee just got dropped in my league, would you rather start him at a utility spot over Orlando Hudson? My other 2nd basemen are Aaron Hill and Chase Utley. I hate to just drop Hudson though.
With those three 2B, you shouldn't even consider cutting one... TRADE! Get yourself a UT player far more valuable than Lee in exchange.
what do you think about Ben Zobrist? Worthy of a pick up in a 10 team mixed league, or leave him for the smoke monster?
The power is tempting, but I think it might be, like Locke, a mirage. Not in a 10-team mixed, no.
Is Juan Cruz due for a tagging simply because his current numbers are too silly-good to be maintained? He's posted great K/9 and decent WHIP and ERA+ the past two years.
The K/9 are way down this year and the BB/9 is just as high... just think there's a big stinker in the offing.
Me hungry. Me like coooookies. Abreu for Lester or Holliday? Trade good?
It's good enough for me.
Haaaaaaave you met Mat Gamel??? I hear he's going to be Legen ..... wait for it ...... DARY!
Should be a keeper. And really, with Weeks now out, I can't see him getting sent down... they'll need the bat.
Similar to Lost am I going to have to wait until 2010 for Hanson and Weiters to make a substantial impact?
Of course you didn't rank him, but looking over the ESPN composite re-rankings, it seems like I'd be crazy not to pick up Alexei Ramirez after he was dropped in my 12 team H2H. Can't possibly be any more dissapointing than the back-up 2B/SS I drafted (I'm looking at you Aviles).
He wasn't too far out of my rankings, and I was required to rank 90 pitchers, otherwise he would have made the cut. My concern with Alexei is that Ozzie is a bit of a renegade, and I can see him sitting him/demoting him for large stretches of time on his whim.
Help! My fantasy season has ended in a flash of light! Trade Cueto for Jay Bruce?
In theory, yes. But if you don't have the pitching to replace Cueto, then no. BTW, Anyone with me that Lost starts next season with the crash of Oceanic 815, and then slowly the characters begin to have deja vu and realize they've done this all before?
What's your definition of substantial?
In this case, worthy of stashing on a limited bench in a 10-team mixed in hopes of perhaps a month of solid stats, tops.
Thanks for the Lost spoilers.
Pure conjecture is now = to Spoilers? Please, Jason. If you were a fan of the show, you'd have seen the finale by now anyway... statue, er statute of limitations has passed.
AJ, got killed by Mock as an RP last night. Any Bailey type setup men that you are high on now to get some nice peripherals and Holds?
I like Ramirez in Boston and DiFelice in Milwaukee, off the top of my head.
JJ Hardy....FENCE....Cristian Guzman. Which side you on?
I'll go with the guy who's been unofficially leading the NL in hitting for some time now.
BUt.. what lies in the shadow of the statue? How droppable is Thome?
Quite. You can do better in your utility spot. He is not the one who will save you.
I have a bunch a pitchers going against each other in a points league. Would you just throw them out there and hope for the best? Example: I have Harang going against both WayRod and YoGa next week. What do you think? Thanks
I'd start the best I have and hope that I get a win out of each face-off. After all, there's no rule that says you can't get 8 IP of shutout ball from both starters in a game.
Better Weeks replacement in an OBP-using roto league: K. Johnson or Alexei?
Still think its Kelly with OPS.
Lots of infield singles and a 2 run error for Lackey last night. He'll be fine, right?
Let's just say I wouldn't panic just yet. Let's look on the positive side. He threw more than two pitches, right?
outlook for milton Bradley?
My ouija board says no go.
Name game: De la Rosa or Harrison going forward? Overall numbers, because I know DLR can get me a few more K's.
You are absolutely right DLR will K more hitter by a lot, but other than that, I think Harrison is a better stat provider for you.
What would you give up for a struggling young pitcher like Nolasco? Would you swap Chris Young (SD) for him?
I'd take the chance. Even though it didn't count, Nolasco actually pitched well last night, and goodness knows you won't be saddled with his 7+ ERA if you trade for him now.
Maaaan I hope this isn't the last time we see Jacob! The actor/characte was excellent until.. well.. you know... I'm an Oriole fan in a keeper league. I'm being tempted by Wieters/Slowey for Greinke... and look.. I know Greinke looks like the second coming... but if you lived in Baltimore, Wieters would be the second coming. Please tell me I can do this.
Sorry, Jon. I can't let you off the hook here. If Wieters was a National, you'd not be so gung ho. You have to take the homerism out of the equation, my friend. That being said - your team, do what you want.
That's all the time we have gang! Thanks for the Q's. We'll be back on Thursday to do it all again, and there's another chat at 3pm. As for me, we'll see you the next time on Villa Alegre!
