Hello folks. Racing's biggest weekend is a few days away. What's on your mind?
Was that the best finish in the history of The Sprint All Star Race?
Don't know about that because there have been some incredible finishes in that at event. But it does tell us that racing for a win is more exciting than racing for points, even with the new car.
Isnt it a good thing for the drivers in the camping world east/west series to race with a driver like kyle busch it helps them learn doesnt it? Id wanna race with him.
No. Not for me. They will get their chance to race with the big boys eventually if they are good enough. But Kyle kicking the little people isn't a good thing in my eyes. But let's face it. This is about selling tickets, plain and simple.
Terry, I agree with your article on the drug thing 100% A Joke! The top five in points, J Gordon, Stewart, Kurt Busch, JJ and Hamlin each have one win or no wins. What is with that?
It's the system. You don't have to win to be near the top in points. But those bonus points for winning will help once the Chase starts.
This whole Mayfield saga is getting out of hand. The more Mayfield talks, the more I actually believe NASCAR. I highly doubt that they didn't tell him what he tested positive for. His explanation of a prescription and OTC mixing to test a false positive doesn't seem to hold water with a lot of experts. The fact that NASCAR's list isn't public does seem troubling, but McGee seemed to indicate yesterday in his chat that a driver can call anytime he wants to check if a drug is legal. Given all of this, what does your gut tell you - Mayfield is lying or NASCAR is?
My guy tells me Mayfield is no victim. The doctor said in a report today that JM didn't test positive for pseudoephedrine, the ingreident in Claritin. He also said he told JM numerous times what came out in the test.
Saturday nights race was a perfect example of the failures of the 88 team, and you could see it by watching the 18 team...Kyle Busch in my opinion, is the best driver on the circuit today, yet he could only will that car around the track for only a lap or two before the car went terrible. You can be the best driver in the world, but unless you have a great car setup and team, you can only go so far. And right now, Dale Jr has neither...
Junior has a good car, no doubt about that. But I don't know if they are doing the right things to make it better during a race.
Hey Mr. Blount, do you know anything about Martin Truex's future plans? Do you think there's a chance he could end up at Stewart Hass? He seems to be pretty close with Newman and Stewart and Stewart is already aligned with Bass Pro Shops, there was chatter about it last year, and it just seems logical.
Truex said he will make a decision soon. He seemed to be leaning toward staying at EGR, which surprises me. Stewart could be an option and so could a fourth car at Gibbs.
My sister-in-law is a pharmasist and I asked her about Claratin D and drug test. She told me that if you take enough Claratin D it could trigger a positive test as one of the ingredients used in it is used in making meth. Could this be what he tested positive for and would NASCAR keep this quiet as Claratin D is a sponsor?
The doctor said no. It is not a possiblility in Mayfield's case.
What needs to be done to end all the Mayfield vs NASCAR junk? This is just as tired a story as the "Will Brett Favre return?"
Saying what he tested for would help, as would giving he drivers a list of banned substances. It also would have helped if NASCAR had better security and could have avoided that sideshow Saturday at Lowe's.
Terry, Who do you like this weekend? Any dark horse picks?
Usually you can get a good feel for who will do well Sunday off who ran well in the All-Star race. So, Stewart, Gordon, Johnson, Kyle Busch all are good choices. As fr a darkhorse, I'll go with Vickers.
Who ya got this weekend? Which race gets the better ratings? And, Who cares if Danica Patrick cant drive a racecar, to see her interviewed in Sprint Cup each week, is worth a 43rd place finish in my book.
I leave for Indy tomorrow. My pick is Tony Kanaan, but the Penske cars will be hard to beat.
do you think Congress will get involved in order to see what changes needed to be done to the 88 team?
Good one Derek. Junior definitely needs a stimulus package.
Mr. Blount...Ryan McGee placed the over/under for SHR wins at 4 for the rest of this year...You taking the over or the under?
My man McGee knows his stuff. Four is about right, but if I had to pick, I'd say under. Four wins is tough. And we aren't including the all-star race. This is four wins in points races.
Did NASCAR remove JM from the track after they found out he was there?
He was quickly escorted off the premises.
The 600 will have more fans than the All-Star right? It was a little empty Saturday night.
Yes, but it won't be full.
How about a dark horse for Indy? I like either Matos or Justin Wilson.
Mario Moraes would be my darkhorse pick.
Do you think J. Gordon will retire if he wins the Cup this year since his back is getting worse?
No. And he had treatment on his back Monday to try to relief the pain. But it isn't so bad that he would quit, not yet anyway.
i think "smoke" as to be in the running for favorite to win the championship... do you think his chances are good?
He chances are excellent. I wouldn't call him the favorite yet, but he could do it. If he does it, his legacy as one of the all-time great drivers would be certain.
The way Kyle Busch finds his way to the lead in every race makes me think that Kyle should be the favorite to win every race he enters. Just how great is Kyle Busch?
His talent level is as high as any driver I've ever seen race. But it isn't just talent. He still needs more patience and the knowledge to make the right move at the right time without being over aggressive and making a mistake.
What's the deal with Earnhardt Jr.? At DEI it was that he didn't have the best equipment, he can't use that excuse at Hendrick. Is it his crew, or is he just an overrated because of who his dad was?
Junior is a better-than-average Cup racer who isn't racing up to his potential at the moment. Who knows why, but I think a change is in order.
What keeps Robby Gordon from pulling off a owner/driver win like Stewart did on Saturday night? I know he is talented and driven, so is it due to not being affiliated with a "heavyweight" team providing engines, support etc., and how long can he survive as a single car team?
Robby Gordon is no Tony Stewart, not even close, except on road courses.
i dont see the 48 team winning their 4th straight do you?
I wouldn't count them out by any means. They have been great down the stretch in the Chase. But I don't think the 4th in is the cards this year.
when are they going to fix the tires at Indy? it doesnt seem like they are triing to do anything to stop what happend last year.
Goodyear is doing everything it can. They've had numerous tests and will have another big test next month. You won't see the fiasco we saw last year, but they still have some issues.
Hey Terry, I think the Penske guys in the Cup series will have a good day as well. How do you like their chances?????
They've had a great year and Kurt is a title contender again. And I'd love to see Sam post a top 5. He's getting better every week.
Do you see JJ Yeley making any races this year? If so, does he have a chance to make a top ten run?
Yes on making a race. No on a top 10.
I was shocked to see a televised interview with Gene Haas at Charlotte. Doesn't Nascar have restrictions regarding convicted, federal, felon criminals participating in our sport?
Mr. Haas did his time and he's still the co-owner of a Cup team. Why shouldn't they talk to him?
if they did lower the banking at Dega... would that be a great race?
It would be safer, but not near as exciting. That's the Catch-22 for NASCAR.
This will sound blasphemous to track owners, but in order to help attendance, shouldn't track owners demolish some grandstands? Obviously the panic to buy tickets would ensue quicker if there are less tickets to buy.
Don't know about demolish. But track owners have eliminated some seats to increase demand. The truth is some of these speedways were overbuilt and need to reduce seating capacity.
Loved the end of the AS race with only last 10 green laps counted. Any chance of that happening in the real races?
It sort of happens when you have a restart with 10 laps or less to go. The difference is those guys weren't racing for points Saturday. Winning was all that mattered.
In your opinion, is Kyle Busch jumping the restarts? If he is not, how does he get such a great jump every time. Last year at Chicago, this year at Richmond and Charlotte. Doesnt NASCAR kind of restrict your options gear ratio wise?
Yes on the gear ratios, but that's not why Kyle ets great restarts. The man has uncanny reflexes and is great on anticipating when to drop the hammer.
terry if lowes go for gas race do you see logano winning it on his 19 birthday
It's possible, but I wouldn't count on it. For young Joey, 400 laps is a long way to go without making a mistake.
Has Childress basically written off 2009 for Harvick, Boyer and Mears?
Absolutely not. They made a swap of crews to try to get back on track. There's a long way to go here.
Is Casey Mears ever going to pick it up? Or is he destined for a 15-20th in points type of career.
He might pick it up some a win an event every now and then, but I don't see him ever being a title contender.
Does Roger Penske show up at Charlotte after the Indy 500?
Good question. I'm not sure. Probably less chance of that if he wins Indy. But he's only a one-hour plane ride away in his private jet.
How long can RPM sustain as an entity with the product they keep putting out there? It just seems like they're the new DEI with regards to sub par equipment.
Things may improve when they switch to the new Dodge engine.
To your point "The difference is those guys weren't racing for points Saturday. Winning was all that mattered." Then I guess I would be one who would want more incentive for winning races.
And I will join you Dave.
Is Bobby Hutchens a genius? Success seems to follow him
Bobby knows his stuff and is a big reason SHR is doing so well. That's goes back to Stewart knowing who to hire to help right the ship.
Which Team has the best shot to win the Coke 600 this year
I guess we will see Kyle Busch racing lawn tractors next. LOL!! I know that NASCAR wants to sell tickets, but they are just discouraging future stars of the sport by letting cup drivers come and dominate them.
I firmly believe it's wrong for Cup stars to race at the lower levels. I believe it hinders development for young drivers and fledgling teams.
Racing's biggest weekend? Why do you say that? Maybe the "longest", but the biggest?
The Indy 500 (IRL's biggest event), the Coke 600 (one of NASCAR's biggest events) and the Grand Prix of Monaco (F1's biggest event).
It is really interesting to see Richard Petty field a car for Indy. Is that the most intreging storyline?
Not even close. He's just lending his name for sponsorship.
Will Elliott Sadler be out of Sprint Cup after this season?
I don't know if he'll be out, but I don't expect to see him back at RPM.
Any chance on going to double file restarts for lead lap cars in the future. I loved it at the all star race...
Not a bad idea, but I don't see it happening.
"Jr. needs a change" what type of change?
I think the two Juniors need to go their separate ways. Both of good at what they do, but they aren't good doing it together.
You think it would change the racing if the winner earned 200 points and 2nd place got like 150 and then on down 4 and 3 points from there?
I would like to see the winner get at least 50 more points than second place. I also would like a win-you're-in for the Chase in the first 26 events, assuming that driver remains in the top 20 in the standings.
Is the race this week really one of Nascar's biggest events? What are the top 5 race weekends for Nascar in your opinion?
Daytona 500, Bristol night race, Brickyard 400, Coca-Cola 600 and the Ford 400 at Homestead when the championship is on the line.
when will dale jr get his first win this year?
I'll guess Michigan in June.
I should be a darkhorse too. Especially at 30/1 odds.
Fake Will Power, you should be a darkhorse for that name alone.
It the problem at the 88 the fact that Jr. just doesn't have the work ethic and desire to win like Kyle Busch and that great drivers like Kyle and Kurt make him look mediocre?
No, this is a fallacy. There's nothing wrong with Junior's work ethic. The chemistry just isn't there right now with the 88 team..
Gotta run folks. I'm off to do NASCAR Now. We'll discuss. Mayfield, Gordon's back problems and a couple of other burning issues. Take care. Peace.
