Great night for Pittsburgh fans, and for the NHL as well!

Madison, Wisconsin

Do you think Pittsburgh has a chance to go back to Detroit for Game 5 with the series tied with the very talented and experienced red wings team?

Barry Melrose
  (3:02 PM)

I do. I think they have to win both games in Pittsburgh, and they won the first one. Detroit's PK has been poor, and Osgood has looked human. Crosby only got one point, and they still won.

Hook (Southern Maryland)

What are your predictions for game 4? This is a huge game for both teams.

Barry Melrose
  (3:03 PM)

I think beating Detroit twice in a row will be tough to do. They'll work on their PK today and will be motivated from losing Game 3.

Kurt (Chicago, IL)

Barry, its not a finals question, but why are people in the league so down on Jim Basillie? Is it because he wants to relocate a franchise to Toronto/Hamilton? I dont get it?

Barry Melrose
  (3:03 PM)

He wants to do something the NHL doesn't want. That's the extent of it. The NHL wants to put a team there eventually, perhaps, but on their own terms. That's why he's in trouble with the league.

Stan, Hamilton, ON

Martin coaching the Canadiens? He did not get it done in Ottawa. Is Montreal that desperate for a french speaking coach? Why not Patrick Roy?

Barry Melrose
  (3:04 PM)

I wouldn't have been surprised if they contacted Roy, but you do pretty well to have a French-speaking coach there. The pool of those is very small. Obviously Jacques Martin was the guy that fit.

Evan (Phoenix)

did fleury redeem himself last night?

Barry Melrose
  (3:07 PM)

Yes, I thought he outplayed Osgood for the first time in the series, and if Pittsburgh has any hope of winning, he'll have to do it again. I thought he played very well.

Lindsey (OH)

With the way that Malkin has been playing this series, couldn't you make a case that he's the better player than Crosby?

Barry Melrose
  (3:07 PM)

I think you have to look at the fact that Crosby is seeing Zetterberg and Lidstrom every shift. Malkin is a great player and certainly you can make an argument that he's as good as Ovechkin and Crosby, but Crosby sees the top defensemen every shift.

Paul (Pittsburgh)

Do you think this series would be any different if Hossa was still playing for Pittsburgh?

Barry Melrose
  (3:08 PM)

He played for them last year and they were beaten pretty easily. Marian is a great player, but I like the addition of Guerin and others. They are a closer team and play with more grit. I think this year's team is better than last year's.

Ralph (New Jersey)

What did you think of the Malkin-Zetterberg fight the other night?

Barry Melrose
  (3:09 PM)

I loved it. I loved the fact that Malkin is out there showing passion and energy and sending a message to Detroit.

Wes (Idaho)

What can Pittsburgh do to shake Crosby loose from that Detroit defense?

Barry Melrose
  (3:10 PM)

I think they tried last night...they double-shifted him, put him with Malkin, waited to see who Detroit put out, made late changes...they really did a lot. He got an assist but had a number of good chances to score and set people up. It worked in Game 3 and they have to do it better in Game 4.

Tom (DC)

What does Pittsburgh need to get past Detroit, if not this year, then next?

Barry Melrose
  (3:11 PM)

They have to get more depth up front. Malkin and Crosby have to score for them to win, so they have to get some secondary scoring. I think they have to replace Sykorik and Satan with younger, better scorers, and maybe another puck-moving defenseman.

Kevin (Virginia)

What did you think of my Blackhawks run this season? Do you think they can do it again next year?

Barry Melrose
  (3:12 PM)

I do. Depending on who they can sign...if they lose Pavlik, Khabibulin, Walker...those are three pretty good players. I think the Hawks' best years are ahead of them and they will be a powerhouse. Don't forget they have some costly signings down the road, however.

Paul (Connecticut)

Do you think we'll see any more scoring than we already have this series? I can't really see any 7-5 games or anything like that, can you?

Barry Melrose
  (3:12 PM)

No, both teams are so good defensively. That would only happen if both goalies are terrible or if we see a lot of power plays. Four goals would be a barrage this year.

Rick (Annapolis, MD)

Can the Canadiens get back to respectability next year?

Barry Melrose
  (3:13 PM)

They have a lot of cap room, so if they make some good additions, certainly. If Price becomes the goaltender we thought he was and they add some blue chip FAs, they could get back in it.

Aaron (Florida)

Do you think the Bruins can sustain the success they had this year?

Barry Melrose
  (3:14 PM)

I think they can. They just resigned Krychek, which is huge, and the GM has made a lot of good additions. You can build around Chara on defense. I think they are a legit powerhouse.

Barry Melrose
  (3:14 PM)

All of us hope it'll be a six or seven-game series. The playoffs are too good for this to end in five. Talk to you next week!
