Good morning, gang! It's a news-filled day after yesterday's transactions, so let's get right to it... So you think you can ask fantasy questions? Well, let's see it Mia Michaels...
Hey AJ. 60' 6" implies not starting Lackey today versus the Jays. But it's Lackey, aren't you always supposed to typically start Top 20 guys? Thanks.
Greg, I'm sure you meant "Daily Notes" - and yes, you start your best guys every outing. Daily Notes is more geared towards those in H2H leagues and those who are looking to play the streaming game. It simply is a "one day only" evaluation and not to be a judgement on anything more than the matchup at hand - Toronto.
Hanson is up! Should I be starting Tommy on Saturday against the Brewers, or Max Scherzer at Petco?
Obviously, if you haven't already grabbed Hanson, it may be too late. But to start him? I'm not one to rush him into the mix over someone like Scherzer, who could well give me 10 K's of his own. If it's one or the other, I go Max.
What happened? It looked like I was on my way back and then "bang", I'm released. Why did they lead me on if I was only going to give way to young Tommy Boy?
I'm thinking the $1 million price tag hanging on you wasn't something they wanted to pay with the addition of Nate. They can say it wasn't the money, but I am not buying it.
The big prospect news yesterday concerned Tommy Hanson and even Andrew McCutchen, but I was called up too! What do you see my production as going forward?
I like Beckham way more than Cutch. I mean, the Pirates have been talking about calling him up for two, three seasons now and they have found plenty of reasons not to. Whereas, with Beckham it seems to be more of a natural progression. I don't like to throw out random stat lines - but I don't think he'll disappoint.
Not much chatter about Ben Francisco. Now hitting leadoff with grady out. Running a lot this year and ran a bunch in the minors too. Plus showing decent power as he did in the minors and last year. Thoughts?
I think once Francisco survived the LaPorta experiment, he found new confidence, because it appeared he was headed out the door. There's not a lot of pop left in that lineup, but if does steal bases, he's a Top 100 hitter.
Where will Glavine end up? Pitching for another major league team (which one), broadcasting from ESPN, or enjoy a cold one on his couch watching Sports Center.
If he's willing to lower the asking price, I can see him ending up somewhere - after all, he's a lefty. I'd love the Mets to give him a call back - he's got to be better than Redding.
Do you drop O- Hudson for Beckham?
No I don't. I'm only dropping a current starter for Beckham if I'm relying on a Bonifacio/Lopez type.
Speaking of Daily Notes for today ... Sit Harang but start Wandy today? I'm in 12-team mixed H2H, and hate to spoil my 1.69 ERA on the week.
That's how I see it, Paul. Wandy has always pitched well against the Rockies, and they're not even at Coors.
What kind of performance do you see out of Wang tonight? Does he improve on his 16.07 ERA?
To quote a former professor of mine, Walt Smith, "Kinda has to." I'm bummed CC was pushed back a day, because I had him ranked very highly. I'm not starting Wang, but 3 runs, 6 IP? It's possible.
The other day, you said that you would drop me in a 10-team league right now. I understand that being patient is an art, but would you honestly rather have clowns like Ian Snell, Manny Parra, or Aaron Cook instead of me and my enormous upside? I'm confused, AJ.
Again with the Liriano? *Sigh* At some point, you have to make decisions on when upside becomes not getting it done. Does Liriano have the most upside of that bunch? Yes. Do I want to wait for it? No. I'd rather take my chances with guys like Outman and Tallet.
So 6 Innings and 3 ER is not a worthy start? I'm sure a lot of fantasy owners would be very happy with that for his first start from minors/bullpen!
I said it was possible... probable is another story.
Sheffield or Cuddyer? Or am i making a mistake because i want a roster spot?
Cuddyer. I think Sheff is on his last bit of gas right now.
Ignoring injuries, would you trade Hames/Soriano for Longoria? For Wright?
For Longoria, I'd do it. For Wright, I'd need to know what SP I'm replacing Cole with.
What are the chances that Eric Young gets called up soon and runs wild on the basepaths for the Rockies?
I don't know about "soon" but I think the Rockies may begin to be looking towards next season already and Clint Barmes isn't exactly the answer.
Hart & Votto for Sizemore. Who wins?
Given the injury issues, I say Hart/Votto.
Would you drop Zach Duke to pick up Hanson?
No, I wouldn't. Duke's been a top 20 pitcher so far. Surely there's another arm you can get rid of.
Why won't you talk about my trade? DOes it help me hurt me no change?? How about some insight on this instead of arguing with people over Liriano!
Just waiting for someone to ask. Actually, I think if anything, his value might drop a bit - if the Braves don't let him run on the bases. Otherwise, I don't see much difference.
Drop Kuroda, Porcello, or Hughes for Hanson?
If you're asking me which of the three, it's Hughes, now that he's headed to the pen. But I'd have no issue dropping the other two either.
Wang or Hanson?
Let me phrase this carefully...if you've held on to Wang this long and not dropped him for Hanson before now, why would you suddenly decide to grab Tommy now?
I finish the season as a top__ pitcher.
25 - as long as you don't let the lack of wins cloud your judgment.
When did the Pirates become a farm team?
Around the time Sid Bream slid into home plate.
PLEASE HELP!!! Got Shields & Meche going today. Should I start both or sit Meche?
I'd give Meche the day off if I were playing that kind of game.
Even though we don't have a baseline VTD for McCutcheon, who has more value going forward - Cutch or Tavares.
I think Willy.
Ugh, you again? Any way, is Kouzmanoff capable of anything positive for the rest of the season?
Yes, Steve. I have found the best way to get my question answered is to preface it with "Ugh, you again?"
Lowell and Joe Nathan = what 3rd baseman?
How good is Tommy Hanson? Seriously, why will he behave any different from any other rookie pitcher: pitch-counts, short-outings, high Ks, no wins. Jeez.
Granted, rookie pitchers rarely live up to the hype immediately... but the K/BB rate fro Hanson is darn good, and while what you say is correct, he should be better than most 1st timers.
Sweet, It's AJ!!! So, how about that Kouzmanoff?
See... was that so hard? I think Kouz is not getting you much different that what you've seen - it fact, I think it gets a little bit worse.
You are willing to drop Porcello for Hanson? Even after seeing Porcello face big league hitters and the relative success he has had?
Porcello is a No. 5 fantasy starter in my book. If you want to buy into the hype and take a chance with Hanson - especially if your overall pitching needs a boost - that's the kind of guy I can see making a move with. I like Porcello. But he's not a "must have" guy like many of the other "should I cut him" candidates.
Any additional word on Reyes...heard he had a setback yesterday??
Headed back to NYC for more evaluation from doctors today after being pulled in a rehab game. Get used to Alex Cora, Mets fans.
No mention of me in Out of the Box? Come on, AJ. You're better than that..and so am I!
We can't list them all! And with all the callups and injury news, we had to draw the line somewhere... Next time you have a good start when I write OOB, I'll put you in.
hunter pence. AJ are you buying or selling him right now? what about for the long term?
He's not Ryan Braun, but he's going to give you nearly as much value at a far lower price. I'm buying.
Whats the secret to getting questions answered??? Value going forward: Casey Blake or Luke Scott?
Ask a question different from the ones I've already answered - that usually does the trick. I like Blake going forward - Luke Scott is good, but that one HR streak is an aberration.
Please help me Mr AJ, Inge or Wieters and V.Wells for Holliday. Yes or No?
No, especially in an AL-only league. Wouldn't be surprised to see Matt get traded back to the NL in a month or so.
Maybe I can try that one too! Value going forward: Ankiel or Fukodome?
I think you go with Kosuke out of that matchup.
AJ, I need SB badly, is McCuchen going to be running wild for the Pirates? Will he finish over 30 SB?
I don't think *wild* is the right word. After all, Morgan's pace has slowed significantly. But if you need to take a chance, be my guest.
Hafner's back tomorrow, should I pick him up and drop Big Papi? Thanks.
Is Big Papi still playing baseball?
When you have a conflict on who to play for a given day, what factors do you put into account when choosing who to play?
Ballpark, hot/cold streaks, opponent... you know the drill, Nature Boy.
What 3 players are you buyin for the 2nd half that have stunk up the joint so far?
Stunk up the joint is such a relative distinction... how far stinking do you want me to go?
Just did the career math on Braun vs. Pence and was verrrrry surprised at how close each player is. Good call, AJ.
Sometimes we get one right, right?
What's wrong with me lately? I have 1 HR and only 10 RBIs over the last 25 games. And my avg has dropped 60 pts!!!
I think that was just standard course correction and you'll be just fine going forward. Fear not.
I am talking about players that have had "Good" Major League track records but have probably been dropped in leagues already? Thnxs
How about Kurt Suzuki, Hideki Matsui Casey Kotchman? That more the ballpark you're looking for?
Are you buying or dropping Furcal?
Derosa or BJ Upton 9 Team ROTO WHich side do u like?
I still like DeRosa based on versatility and the injury situation in Cleveland allowing him beaucoup playing time.
What the heck can you get for him at this time?
Depending on the owner? JJ Hardy. O-Cab.
Curtis Granderson will end up being a top _______ hitter by the end of the year.
Name game: Bourn, Crisp, Taveres
You've nailed the correct order there, Ed.
Folks, that our time for today. As always, we appreciate the Q's. Jason's up at 3pm where all your prospect questions will be answered... Until then, we'll see you the next time on Villa Alegre!
