QUESTION TO TERRY BLOUNT 2..05 HI TERRY WHOS YOUR PICK FOR LOUNDON
Tony Stewart. He was going to win at NH one year ago but the rain changed everything.
Nascar has said they are looking at changes to the COT. What changes are they looking at?
Nothing much except possibly weight distribution by moving weight to the left side of the car.
Will Junior move his team to cup with Brad K, and if not who would be his driver in 2010?
It all depends on sponsorship money. If they have the funding and feel they will get sigificant help from Hendrick, Brad is there man.
Jimmie Johnson has been on fire really since Dover, though the finish at Michigan and i also believe at Pocono are misleading, what are his chances this weekend at New Hampshire and do you think that after a strong run at infineon we will see JJ get into victory lane in August when the series goes to Watkins Glen?
I don't see Jimmie winning at the Glen, but he is much improved on road courses. If I had to pick a winner today for the Glen I'd pick Ambrose.
10 races left until the chase and Kyle Busch is only 42 puts in the good of falling out. With 4 out of the next 7 races (Loundon, Pocono, Michigan, and Indy) that they will go to, KB has an avg finish of 19.9 the past two seasons. Do you think he is in any real danger of falling out of the chase, or do you think he will succeed enough at Daytona, Chicago and WG to remain in the top 12? Remember, only 1 top 13 finish in the last 6 races.
Devin, you've been studying way too hard. Kyle will make the Chase. He'll find a way to post enough top 10s to stay in the top 12.
This is why road courses and Plate races do NOT belong in the chase. You have almost no control of where you finish. Take Dale Jr for example. He drives and absolutley perfect race, works his way from 35th to 8th with 9 laps to go, and gets spun out by Ragan/Edwards. It doesnt really seem to matter how good your car is, what type of driver you are or even your track position, but rather whose behind you and will they spin you out. Hornish Jr got spun out 3 sperate times by 3 sepearte drivers (Busch, Said, Allmendinger) Total of 19 cars got spun out on Sunday. Simply ridiculous!
We'll have to agree to disagree Ray. I thought the race was pretty darn exciting, far better than Pocono or Michigan's fuel mileage shows. Yes, people get spun out. It's racing. That happens on a tight course. But I loved it and would love to see Sonoma in the Chase.
Rumors have RCR down to two teams. Mears would be out, but would Harvick really be the second?
Jake, don't believe all the rumors you hear. It's a long time until 2010 and lot can change on the sponsorship front.
Will Jeff Gordon make it back into victory lane this season and what are his chances in the chase this year? I think it is going to be between Tony and Jimmie at this point.
Jeff will win against this season and he still has a shot at the title. Still too early to count out any contender at this point. One year ago, almost everyone thought Kyle was unbeatable and would win the championship.
I heard something about a spec engine. Could you explain what that is, and why some manufacturers think it is a good idea for the lower series?
A spec engine means everyone uses the same engine formula and all of them are made to the exact same specificatons. It would greatly lower costs, but it also would mean manufacturers couldn't say their engine performed better than another manurfacturer's motor.
How much longer does Jr. get a free pass for his poor performance? Will Jr. ever take responsibility for his own inability and stop blaming his crew?
He isn't blaming his crew. Other people are. He was heading to a good finish at Sonoma but got wrecked with a few laps to go.
One more, Danica in NASCAR, is she just drumming up publicity to go to F1?
Danica is not going to F1. She probobly is staying in IndyCar unless someone in NASCAR makes her an offer she can't refuse. And that's possible.
whats up Terry? does Kasey Kahne's propel him to a solid finish to the season and possibly making the chase?
He has a decent shot at it if they get what they need out of the new Dodge engine. I'd say his chances are 50/50.
Would U like to see Danica in Nascar? FYI I think she is great driver and would be great for Nascar and she is cute.
I's like to see it from a selfish perspective because I'd get plenty of great columns out of it. Frankly, that's why NASCAR would like it because she would garner a ton of media attention.
Lets say Kyle somehow misses the chase this year and edwards pulls off another hot streak to win the nationwide series, what changes do you think would come about in the way kyle runs his schedule next year?
I don't think Kyle or JGR see his NW sked as a hindrance to him winning in Cup, so I don't know if they would change anything. But I would. I would have cut back his NW sked this year.
Terry why does it seem like Carl doesn't play well with his teammates? It seems like every couple of races he is always pushing one of his teammates around (in the wrong way) and last week it saw him hitting a teammate and causing an on track blunder involving nascar's golden child. As a rousch fan i would love him to explain why he always gets into his teammates
His teammates also have gotten into him a few times, so it's all how you look at it. I think the entire Roush organization is a little frustrated right now and they're pressing a little.
Why this season has the performance of RCR been so poor? can we expect any improvements this season or at least next? I thought in the off season that RCR would be able to improve for this year
Jeff Burton said the organization is behind on aero issues that affect handling. He said they have enough HP, but their cars don't go through th turns as wella s the other top teams. He also said they didn't do a good job in the off-season is improving the COT.
I'm not sold on Kyle B. being in the Chase either. He's said himself, he'd rather than win than anything. He's a "winner or spinner" as Ryan said. Don't you think he bottom fishes too much in lower series which hurts the SC program?
I do, but I also think he has enough talent to stay in the top 12 and make the Chase. I know Addington will tell him they need to points race and not get crazy. I dont know how much of it will sink in.
Do you only think Kasey has a 50/50 chance because of him being at RPM?
Yes. If Kasey was racing for JGR or Hendrick, top 12 would be in the bag.
Also where can we expect to see Brad K in Sprint Cup next year? Any chances that he replaces Junior or possibly into a 3rd car at SHR?
Ansolutely ZERO chance that he replaces Jr. But a very good chance he runs a third car for Stewart.
Just for fun, which of these slumping drivers will get to victory lane first this season if at all: Harvick or Junior
Neither might be the right choice on that one. But if I had to pick one, I'll go with the prince.
Could/Would/Should NASCAR implement a rule for Nationwide such as in your 1st X (I say 5) years of driving Sprint Cup full time you can drive as many Nationwide events as you want. After that you can only enter X amount of events per year. I believe this will allow young talent to prove themselves in Nationwide while still having some experienced drivers, with name recognition, to sell/promote the Nationwide tour like they want/need. What do you think?
Too complicated. The easy solution is Cup drivers in the top 35 don't earn NW points. If NASCAR would place limits, then say top 35 Cuppers can only run half the NW sked.
What's wrong with Carl Edwards? He wrecked Ragan AND Jr...helluva way to pick up 2 spots.
Nothing wrong with him. He's just not a very good road racer.
If as rumored EGR goes to Toyota how does that effect ECR doing the enignes essentialy wouldnt that mean RCR is back to having their own engine programs again?
Again, be careful on all these rumors. Toyota can't take on everybody at GM that's struggling. Their money is tight also. Toyota wants to stay at 10 to 12 cars tops. But yes, if that happened, RCR will be on it's own for engines. Not a big deal since it started that way before merging motors with Earnhardt.
True or False? JPM would be a contender in better equipment, and would have won more than once this season!
He's a contender now to make the Chase. And his equipment is better now than it was a year ago.
Do you think old man Earnhardt is rolling over in his grave after what has happened to his business since his passing?
I think he would be disappointed about a lot of things that have happened the last couple of years.
Over under: 1 win for Newman this year.
I'd take the under, but it wouldn't shock me if he wins one before the season ends.
How many people were contender in IRL, F1 and Nascar? Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch
Right now they just want to work on finding a way to run consistently in the top 10. If that happens, they may gamble to try to win a race or two.
JJ wins a 4th straight title...where does that put him amongst the all time greats?
I'd say in the top 5 all-time. And Chad as one of the best crew chief's ever.
if rpm switches to toyotas for kahne, would they get tech support from another team (jgr)? seems like a risky move to make right after getting the new dodge engine
RPM officials say they are not switching manufacturers this season. That's a huge move to make in the middle of the year.
Which driver would you say is more likely NOT to make the Chase, Mark Martin or Kyle Busch?
I expect both of them to make it.
Does Jr. Make it in the Nascar HOF at careers end?
Not even close at this point.
True or False: The chances of the big one at Daytona will increase with the double-file restarts.
Absolutely true, especially toward the end of the race.
Will we see Rusty Wallace move his team up this year or next?
Yes, if the sponsorship is in place to do it right. If not, Rusty probably will run Steve in a few Cup events.
How much would you pay to see JPM and Danica go at it? IF Danica enters NASCAR that is my bet for 1st Danica fight.
I'd rather see DP and Kyle swing guitars at each other.
who do you believe are the 1st five to get inducted in the HOF
Bill France Sr., Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Bill France Jr. and David Pearson. But there are a lot of deserving candidates.
I heard JJ apologized to Ku. Busch in person on Sunday, do you think that it is settled and the 2 drivers are good or will we see Kurt go for retaliation in some way?
They're good. JJ actually walked up to Kurt after the race while Kurt was being interviewed on TV. JJ handled it perfectly and showed what a class act he is.
Who is the Prince and why???
Uh, that would be Junior, who is NASCAR royalty.
What do you think of Clint Bowyer making the chase now? Its far time he got credit for his road work awesomeness too.
Clint's a fine racer, but I don't think the Chase is in the cards for him this year unless RCR makes some miraculous turnaround this summer.
How can one man be better than another in a Nationwide series career, Dale Jr./Matt Kenseth, but have a worse cup career? Is it the car or the driver?
It's the car, the team, lots of things. JJ wasn't squat in the NW Series.
Gotta run folks. Hope everyone has a great week. I'm out. Peace.
