Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:09 PM)

Sorry for the delay. I had some technical difficulties on my end. Thanks for coming. Here we go...

Harish (Fargo ND)

Paul, you have no beef with brady being the QB of the decade? Seriously? Manning has been more consistent and better numbers than brady. The only reason why brady has more SB rings is because the defense , Special teams and coaching is better. Pats went 11-5 with cassel! Brady is a system QB.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:10 PM)

Have a post going up now saying I'd vote Manning for MVP, which in my eyes is more a regular season award.

John (Houston)

How many sacks does Mario get this year with the new line? Defensive MVP maybe?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:11 PM)

I'd say he will contend if healthy.

PLP (Chicago)

With your knowledge of the AFC South, perhaps you have the answer-- What's wrong with Marvin Harrison and why hasn't anyone picked him up yet?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:12 PM)

He's doesn't run very well any more. If the team he had a fantastic career thinks he's finished, the rest of the league interprets that.I still think he probably plays.

David (Jacksonville)

A Paul Kuharsky Haiku...Paul K South BloggerLive Chats and Weekly MailbagFriend him on Facebook

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:13 PM)

Best chat post ever, provided it's correct in form. Beautiful. I am crying...

Kendra Rut (Nashville)

I probably would have enjoyed the Will Hoge show more if you hadn't been talking throughout. Who you think (out of the rookies) has the best chance to "Donnie Nickey" the Titans this year? You know, the guy who, each year, you expect to be cut, but somehow he miraculously returns.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:14 PM)

Hurtful. It takes two.Troy Kropog may not be an NFL caliber player this year, but he's going to be around and get a lot of work with Munchak and likely turn into a player.

Peyton Manning (home)

You think Brady is better than me but we never talked about it before you posted about it? We really haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:15 PM)

Again, our lines of communication are poor because I have no numbers for you.Look for a post on a related matter shortly.

Steve Slaton (poolside)

I see a sophomore slump from "every coach's dream" with a disgruntled smash

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:23 PM)

I don't really see how his speed can slump.

Buzzmaster
  (12:40 PM)

Paul ran into some technical difficulties with the chat on Thursday and will be resuming at 3 p.m. ET on Friday. And questions you submitted earlier have been saved.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:58 PM)

Good afternoon folks. Hopeful we won't have glitches today. Apologies regarding yesterday's flame out...

TJ (Ft. Myers)

I've been reading all of this "Of the Decade" stuff ESPN is doing lately... I have issues, but as a Colts fan, it's understandable. For the players, I saw only Tony Gonzalez as a tight end on the list, and it made me wonder... Is tight end an undervalued position? How will playing that position affect how great players like Dallas Clark or Antonio Gates are seen by future NFL fans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:00 PM)

Certainly Gonzalez and Gates have reset the bar for numbers, etc. I do think some guys are more a product of a system. Some teams value it a lot more than others.

David (Jacksonville)

Since you liked yesterdays haiku...Paul K chat blown up / Can't pick questions to answer / Blame it on Tim Graham

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:01 PM)

You are a genius and these will both be in this week's mailbag. I go from no one knowing I exist in JAX to having a Haiku writer based there!

Fred (Colorado Springs)

Paul, everybody blames the line for the colts rushing problems, but they don't acknowledge that they gave up fewest sacks in NFL. I know Moore and Mudd are revered, but could the problem be that coaches and the team put too much emphasis on pass blocking and not enough on rushing techniques?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Injuries above all else last season. But yeah, if you're picking O-linemen there, the first requirement is that you protect that QB. I have no issue with that, that is as it should be.

RC Ford (Nashville, Tennessee)

How about this nickname for Chris Johnson and Lendale White:Fast Food

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Food jokes are getting old for LenDale. I heard he has been under 230 late this week.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Paul, as a Titans fan, the Colts first round pick surprised me. Why would you pass on Beanie Wells for Donald Brown? Do you think he'll acutally have a better career than Wells? Some even had Wells ranked as their #1 back.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

What did you say when they took Edgerrin James over Ricky Williams?I give Bill Polian the benefit of the doubt on this one and won't be surprised at all if Brown is better than Wells.

Dave (Canada)

Do we have to submit yesterday's questions again or can you still see them?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

I can still see them, but since there are 100, it'll be hard to catch up.So fire again, especially if you have Haiku-caliber material.

Michael ((Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan))

Paul, Hope all is well.Do you see the Monday Night Titans at Texans game to be a battle for first place in the AFC South???

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

I think it will be difficult for the Texans to catch or pass Tennessee and Indy.

Dave (Canada)

Chris Mortensen roasted Jeff Fisher because his son is trying out for the Titans. Should Fisher invite Artie Lange's son for a tryout before his next roast?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Trying out? It's a not a high school team. Alex Mortensen is a camp body. Nothing Mort can do or write to elevate that status.

Every Coach's Dream (In Fisher's Nightmare)

Help! I've contracted verbal diarrhea. (I think I got it from VY.) I need to shut up but can't. I'm blatantly pointing myself out and alienating teammates. How will this affect the team? Will I be put in my place during training camp?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

I don't think he's alienated teammates. I think he's trying to be funny and to market himself, and he's got you talking.

Ray (Orlando,FL)

would you rate Lendale White and Chris Johnson over Deangelo Williams and Jonothan Stewart?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

I haven't seen a lot of Carolina, though I had an underachieving Williams on a fantasy team in 2007 and he didn't endear himself to me.

kevin (ny)

Any real tension between the 2 rb's in tenn or is it just fun?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

None. According to their tweets, they are heading to Memphis for the weekend together.

Finley (via mobile outside)

I have a question for Tim Graham: What does a dog have to do to get some Zima around here? This is ridiculous!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

He's inside.Finley, that is.I have no idea where Graham is, but I would predict his basement, trying to sabotage this chat between turns at some game.

Ben (Noblesville, IN)

Who do you see playing DT for the colts season? It better not be Dawson again, that guys so small he shouldnt even be playing end.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Too early to say. I think they'd like Ed Johnson with Keyunta Dawson or Antonio Johnson if possible, so they don't have to ask too much of the rookies too soon. But if they're ready, they'll play in the rotation.

Dave (Canada)

Jef Fisher recommended the nickname "dumb and dumber" for CJ and Lendale. Since a sense of humour is viewed as a sign of intelligence would that make CJ "Dumber"?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator used D

snozzberry (indy)

pk, last i heard you were supposed to go to iaria's when in indy last. how was it? ... i like it. i think it's all right. definitely a hidden gem. keyword hidden. but next time in town, if you like italian, try mama corrolla's on 54th and the monon trail. the family is from omaha, and they keep with that omaha italian restaurant tradition and style. food is great and atmoshphere is good too. another to try out is ambrosia in the heart of broad ripple. great bar. good food.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

It's always great. I love the place.I will solicit more recommendations for next trip -- but will be in Terre Haute before Indy.

Michael (Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan)

Has Jacksonville done enough to "rebuild" their offensive line from it's terrible performance last year? OR do you expect them to keep FOUR quarterbacks this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

The Jags have done enough with Monroe, Britton and Thomas added, plus guys back from injury including Manuwai, who's a great run blocker. Now it's a question of cohesion.

Dave (Canada)

When the Titans were having fun during their final OTA by putting players in new positions were they able to find a new permanent position for VY?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

No Haiku, but pretty good!

Dusty (Wilmington, DE)

Hey Paul,I know we shouldn't look too much into the OTAs but is Harpers LASIK surgery seeming to help his performance?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

I think Harper takes way too much heat and has been the best second corner on this team since Darryl Lewis and Cris Dishman were the starters in 1996.

President Obama (Washington, DC)

Paul, I think you run a great chat here and I appreciate everything you do for the sport of football. Much like I came out of nowhere to become President, I'm picking the Jaguars to win the AFC South. I know you and most won't agree with me but I sense something special with that team. I really like that Drew kid.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

I appreciate your visit, Mr. President. look forward to talking with you in January after we see how things pan out.

Adam (Cookeville, tn)

Why is Lendale derided for his size? Why can't he embrace it as Jerome Bettis did? Obviously the production isn't the same yet but Lendale has decent feet for a big guy. Is it a work ethic issue?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

He was derided because he was too big, and being too big meant he couldn't use those good feet and vision as well as possible. He looked great, weight-wise, this week. Next: Tone up more.

Matt (IN)

Paul my best advice for eating in Terre Haute is, don't. Bring leftovers from home!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Yeah. Slim pickings last year.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Has Chris Davis really made the huge strides people who have seen the Titans practice say he has? Will he be able to contribute this year? Who's the number 3 reciever behind Gage and Washington?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

He's been very good. But in 2006 at this time, we said Courtney Roby was the team's best receiver and he didn't make the team. It's got to be Britt, and if it's not it's got to be Hawkins.

Dustin (Wilmington. DE)

Whats going to happen with good Ol' Craig Stevens TE, will be see a larger role this year (probably in blocking)???????

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Still the second blocking TE behind Crumpler. Takes over in 2010 I would expect.

massey (columbia, tn)

hey paul...didnt you provide a website a week or so ago that had alot of players twitter names??? I just signed up to the new social networking site!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I did. It's athletetweets.com...Please sign up to follow espn_afcsouth and spread the word.

cam (nashville)

pk, you said in the recent kerry collins article that it is an undeniable fact vince young asked out of the 2008 opener. why is this undeniable fact? do you have audio from the sideline, or an inside source such as one of the players? i dont expect you to give your source away if you have one, but would like to know why we should take your statement as fact rather than conjecture.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Undeniable fact because trustworthy people who were in range saw and heard what played out and have shared.People need to come to terms with the fact it happened and stop with the ridiculous revisionist history. They are like Nixon: If they say enough it didn't happen they think they can change the truth.

phil (des moines, ia)

Loved your comments on the Haynesworth interview, right on!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Thanks.I love Albert. But to sort of rip the Titans and Fisher was unfair considering how patient they were with him and what he gave them to deal with at his bad moments.

phil (des moines, ia)

Paul any news on Mitch King? heard a little buzz early after signing but nothing as of late.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Ed, we're going to need flags on the constant requests for Mitch King info. He's the sixth DT, and I can't tell you much from OTAs about any team's sixth DT. Let's revisit in camp, and not on the first day.

Blips McGee (Pittsburgh)

Do you Texans continue to be everyone's darlings and disappoint or do they make waves this year and make the playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

Contend for playoffs as third team in AFC South is my prediction right now.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Great reads on the Titans, Paul. With respect to Jacksonville looking to trade Northcut, what can they honestly expect to get? It sounds to me like they don't want Dennis to fill a roster spot since they appear to like their youth. As you noted, any team interested should just sit and wait. My bigger concern, however, is their putting this out there before they've even seen these kids in pads. Dennis may not be a X receiver but he is a pretty reliable Z. This makes no sense at all.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

A fifth maybe? A sixth? But now a suitor would be wise to wait for him to get cut. And if he has a great camp, they may have to keep him or maybe he gains value. They're ready to move on. But one injury and they could regret it.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Hey Paul, which AFC South rookies would you want on your fantasy team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Donald Brown as a mid- to late-round pick.

Blips McGee (Pittsburgh)

What's the over/under on Lendale's camp weight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Well he was 234 at the start of this week. If he busted it to get there, I don't see why he reverts and comes to camp too heavy. So I say 235.5 as over-under.

Dave (Canada)

What would it take for Jeff Fisher to get fired?0-16?sex boat?anything?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

A lot. If he's Pacman proof, I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a scenario he couldn't survive.

Adam (Cookeville)

A lot was made of Kerry Collins conditioning/weight loss last year. Does he appear to have maintained that conditioning? Improved?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

Even thinner. Ran great today in the powerball stuff I wrote about in the blog.

Michael (Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan)

Do you do radio shows in Indy, Jax and Houston like you do on Nashville? When are they? Why do you only do the Morning Zone and not the Afternoon show on 104.5 even though they do NFL talks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays? If you do other shows, are the other host as blind to others opinion as Mark "Make My Point Regardless" Howard???

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Not as much. But Kravitz and Eddie have me on in Indy, I've been on with Pete Prisco and on 1010xl in Jax and I visited with Marc Vandermeer in-studio when I was in Houston.Hope to do more with all of them. Feel free to let them know if you'd like that.I will get in the habit of posting when I am going to be on somewhere as a status on facebook.I've been part of the morning show since very early on, and am loyal to it. But in 14 years, I've never been asked to be on Plaster.Mark Howard is fantastic, and you don't realize how crucial the role he plays is to the Wake-Up Zone.

Adam (Cookeville)

Lendale "Cupcake" WhiteCupcake short of 250Knees won't last 5 years.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

So 234 a cupcake = 250? That's a heck of a cupcake. Give the guy some credit.

Ed Hochuli (In the gym)

Personal Foul on Blips McGee for referring to Lendale's weight after Paul already noted those comments were getting old. Lets follow the rules folks or I'm calling the chat.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

Please don't call the chat. I owe people. But punish Graham for what I am about to post from him.

Tim Graham (via mobile at D )

Yeah Paul, I have a question about Mitch King. Do you see him getting a lot of time this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

Ed?

Ken (Jacksonville)

Paul do you think Troy Williamson will still be playing for the Jags when the season starts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

He's got a chance. Does one of the kids develop as a deep threat? That's the question. I think they see Williamson as different than the rest, and need that speed and I think he's progressed some.He must have to survive the housecleaning.

Fred (Colorado Springs)

Everybody says the turnover in Indy is a negative, but Patriots have brought in three times more free agents and rookies than thier usual "minor" adjustments and everybody has them picked to win the superbowl. do you think cohesion and team chemistry could be an issue for NE this year.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

NE always brings people in and turns over a share of the top of the roster.Indy does not.

Drew (Buffalo)

Saw Tim Graham at a local bar last night. We did a shot of Puckers in honor of you becuase your wikipedia page says it is your favorite drink.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

People know I have no Wiki page and don't care for Wiki.Ed?

Nate (Indy)

What kind of microscope is Jim Caldwell under from the organization? Do you think that he could be fired if he doesn't make the playoffs in his first year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

No chance.

Dan (Clarksville)

Cook appears to have all the weapons. So did Troupe. What can we expect?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

Too early to say. It's easy to watch him and get carried away. It'll be about the hands and his ability to learn the playbook.

Dustin (Wilmington. DE)

With White and his new physique, lets say he has a year close to last year statistically, what is that likelihood that he will be resigned?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

Before free agency, I'd say five percent. But if the market isn't what he expects, then there is the possibility of a late reunion if Ringer hasn't panned out.But if there is no new CBA, White will only be restricted.

Fred (Colorado Springs)

there is a lot of talk on how Ed Johnson is grateful to be back, and appreciates the opportunity. But I have not see anything on how he looked at OTAs. Was he there? Did he look ready to play after a year off?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

He was there. Impossible from my vantage point to tell you anything about line play, which is hard to read at limited contact OTAs out of pads anyway. We'll have to watch him closely at the start of camp. I think he'll be good.

Matt (NY)

I noticed in an article (I think nashville city paper?) that Jared Cook was referred to as a Wide Receiver. Will the Titans use him more as a wide out than a TE or was that just because he's been doing some work occasionally with the WRs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

He will NOT be used as a receiver. He's a tight end. The Titans split a tight end out as if he's a receiver sometimes and tight ends run some of the same routes as receivers, and he can work with them on those.

Michael (Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan)

Just signed up for AFC SOUTH Twitter. Just kidding on the Mark Howard comment earlier, heard you comment this morning about MH checking for his name in the chat yesterday. Love the morning show. Wish you could at least be on the Tuesday 104.5 zone show.SEEMS like a lot of OFFENSIVE and DEFENSIVE changes in Indy, why do you still think that the Colts are still #1 or #2 in the AFC South????

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

Why is change bad? Harrison looked done, not overpaying him is going to be a good thing. They have better DTs. They have a better second option at RB who could quickly become the first option.Jim Wyatt and John McClain do just fine on Tuesday afternoons. I enjoy their show.

Erik (Salt Lake City, UT)

Any chance the US team creates another major upset on Sunday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Asking a lot. We can hope. I hope they play well. I'll be happy if they do win or lose.

chuck (houston)

Andre Johnson has elite speed. Larry F. does not. Larry F. has better hands. Fair?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

I don't think so. I think Fitz is probably faster.

phil (des moines, ia)

Paul what about Little? I have seen two different opinions on this guy, one said he is a gem and the titans got a steal in him. The other said that he has been not all that impressive.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

I have not been impressed and feel I oversold him. But he's got a lot of time.

Paul (Cleveland)

I want to thank you for the inspiration. I'm a journalism major and I was worried the standards might be too high. Then I read your work.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Glad to be of service, pal. Anything I can do.

Dave (Canada)

Odds that Springsteen plays "We are the World" at his next concert to pay tribute the Michael Jackson?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

The song kind of loses its luster if 15 different stars aren't singing it. Maybe he will moonwalk.

DP (Phoenix)

I think the Grossman signing is great for the Texans. Vet minimum for a guy with that experience and that much talent (love or hate him). Low risk for Texans. Don't tell me Orlovsky is guaranteed the #2 job. I mean, seriously..Dan Orlovsky? I know money plays a factor. But with Kubiak and Shannahan, it wouldnt shock me to see them fix Rex. He can make all the throws when he's right. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Orlovsky's skill set is a better fit for their system. But if Grossman outplays him, it's not inconceivable he gets to No. 2. I don't see it, though.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

After reviewing the play, Tim Graham clearly violated the rules of the chat. The ruling on the field stands. First down and Tim Graham is ejected from the chat.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Sweet. Haikus and a Graham ejection.

Mike (Nashville)

Could Connor Barwin be an under the radar DROY candidate?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Second round pick would only be a mild surprise. But I think it's hopeful, yes.

Ed Hochuli (In the gym)

Personal Foul on Paul in Cleveland for insulting the host. Paul will penalized by remaining in Cleveland for the rest of his life.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

I wholeheartedly support this ruling but want to say Cleveland is underrated and people who kill it are living in the past for their comedic material. Also, I was born there though we left when I was 6.

Spencer (Nashville)

Paul -- how many more years do you think LP Field has? What year do you think the Titan's get a new stadium?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

The lease is 30 years. So let's talk around 2024.

Michael (Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan)

OBVIOUSLY, one team has to be #4 in the AFC South, if it is the Texans or the Jags will it be the end for either of those head coaches? Could it happen mid-season with say a 3-5 start?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Thanks for taking on your line of work, my friend.I say no on mid-season firings. Texans would have to implode for Kubiak to be out. And I think JDR can be safe if they show progress and appear on the upswing.

Blips McGee (Pittsburgh)

Congrats on getting to leave Cleveland when you were 6! What kind of role do you see for Kevin Walter in the Texans offense. He is a very underrated player IMO.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

Very underrated. He'll be the No. 2 receiver and get coverage he can succeed against because of AJ.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

Unsolicited, underrated song that just came across my iPod:So Lonely, The Police.

Spencer (Nashville)

What do you think the odds are of getting a new CBA deal to save the salary cap?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

I remain optimistic. But no cap is not the disaster many believe it will be. There are restrictions that come with it: limits on free agency, an extra franchise tag, limits on how many players the best teams can sign. The trouble is, once it's gone it probably doesn't come back. And then 2011 is in jeopardy.

David (Jacksonville)

With small and mid market teams having to spend enormous amount of money to reach to salary floor, would the league be better off without a salary cap?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

No. Teams should have to reach a floor. You don't spend that much, it's going to be very difficult for you to be competitive. You should have to try to be competitive.

Dustin (Wilmington, DE)

Are you saying that you are so bored during these chats that you need music to stay entertained, say it ain't so!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

I consider it the chat soundtrack. Good one today. Police are followed by the Bottlerockets, Gas Girl.

Paul (Ohio)

Can we all officially now admit that choosing Reggie Bush would have been a big mistake by the Titans and that all the "experts" are idiots.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

I think most of those people have since said they were wrong. i didn't love Reggie Bush, but remember thinking the Texans should take VY. That wouldn't have gone well either.

Paul (Ohio)

Ummm, Paul how about answering football questions instead of inane music ones?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

Good job asking one there, chief.

Steve Slaton (Houston)

My stats were comparable to CJ last season, so why do people consider him a far superior back to myself?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:02 PM)

Here is why I think CJ is better, not superior:A) He's faster, and his brand of speed keeps defensive coordinators up at night.B) His coaches didn't have to basically hold him out a game because he was tired.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

I'll defer to your ability to evaluate soccer. What I saw were some close range shots that easily could've been goals. In looking at the stats it appears Spain did have considerably more pressure but as you noted the shot total (and save total) with no goals for Spain indicates solid defense. Didn't you think the US got luck on some of those close range shots? Regardless, great win!

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:03 PM)

They could have been goals, but they weren't!With our talent, you're not going to keep Spain from shooting. With most team's talent you can't.Blocking shots or saving them isn't luck. They were fortunate Spain didn't have better aim on a few occasions.

Dave (Canada)

Do you ever go over and read the NFC North blog to see how Coach Schwartz is doing?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

I try. I look forward to seeing how Schwartz does, and I'm a fan of his linebackers coach, Matt Burke, and Gunther Cunningham too.

Drew (Buffalo)

Ummm, Paul (Ohio), how about relaxing a bit. Good chat today Paul. We all appreciate you doing it today after the technical difficulties yeaterday. How about a 2 hour marathon soon?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

We'll do one leading into camp, how about?

Ken (Jacksonville)

Paul it has been said on local radio shows that the Jaguars have had the worst receivers in the league ever since Jimmy Smith retired. Do you think the rookie receivers the Jags drafted this year will be much better than what we had the past few years?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

They only have to be third, fourth, and fifth options if Holt and Walker are what they expect. And maybe fourth, fifth and sixth options if Williamson emerges.

rick (st louis)

I have a suggestion for the format of the chat; maybe a split screen where other participants can cross talk or debate an issue in a separate window while you continue this format in main window. Get the tech guys on this paul and revolutionize the way chat is done. Just give me the credit for this idea.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

I can't make my own chat work!

rick (st louis)

more productive rookie year: Cook or Britt?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

Depends if it's a veteran WR or a TE who gets hurt.(Cop out.)

Fred (Colorado Springs)

I forget his name, but there was a running back out of Liberty that was talked about as a first or second round draft talent, but he fell all the way to the seventh round for Jacksonville. Was there some issue out there that we never heard about, were the mock drafts all that far off on his talent level, or did the GMs of the different teams know something we did not?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:08 PM)

Rashad Jennings was never talked about as a first-rounder. More like a third-rounder. I know the Texans didn't feel like he fit them. But other than that, I don't know why he lasted and neither does he.He's an impressive kid, I spent some time with him when I was down there. He Tweets, so you can track him there if you like. Will be interesting to see if he can take carries that had been earmarked for Greg Jones.

Paul (Ohio)

Hi Paul, any chance the Titans decide that with the current team that they need a "real" QB and move away from both Collins and Young. I don't see them winning with either of them.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:10 PM)

Where do they get this "real" quarterback right now? These are their QBs for 2009. And it's silly to say they can't win with Collins. They went 13-3 and he's been to a Super Bowl.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:10 PM)

You guys are slowing down, are we finished?

Fred (Colorado Springs)

Do you think Tom Brady comes back right where he left off, or does he have a mediocre year his first season back from the knee injury

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:11 PM)

I think he'll be just fine.

Derek (KC)

You have said what the jag's hope to get out of Holt what are your honest expectations?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:12 PM)

He should be their leading receiver and a consistently dependable option for Garrard. I'm not going to put numbers out there that he should reach, except 16 games...

Josh (Houston)

You should lobby ESPN to force its columnists to re-evaluate draft classes and their grading for them three years afterwards. You had a post on a second look at the 2006 draft a couple months ago that was eye-opening. And I think it's pitiful that no analysts ever have to face their own opinions once they're proven wrong.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:14 PM)

I suspect you'll see all of us on the blog network do such revisiting. Those who mock and/or grade should always include a disclaimer on how silly it is to try. What are we grading? Whether a team's draft lined up with what we predicted it should be, that's what.

Michael (Fort Campbell.... Formerly Afghanistan)

Not slowing down..... adding your Facebook site. Did you miss my Cowboys Stadium question?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:15 PM)

Colts struggles at LOS were Manning-knee related. I can't see how it wouldn't provide a bit of a boost for Dallas to be playing in a palace.

harish (fargo ND)

Paul,I asked this question yesterday, but the chat got busted. here it is again. Has Indy done enough wrt D line this offseason? Will their rush defense be better?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:15 PM)

I don't know what's enough, but I think they did a lot to address it with three newcomers. They will play better run defense.

Justin (NYC)

What do you think of the Magic getting Carter? Losing Lee? I feel like they gave away alot of their bench for a guy on the wrong side of 30...

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

I think I hate the NBA. Pick and roll, isolation, time out, pick and roll, timeout, dunk and pose, timeout.

Justin (NYC)

Same question for the Jags... Will their D again be feared?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

Who's fearsome on their D right now?

Dustin (Wilmington)

Should I pick up Gage in my Fantasy league this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

I would.

Justin (NYC)

Do you think Garrard truely has the chops to be an elite QB or are the Jags wasting their time?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

This is the year we find out.

Derek (KC)

Can Schaub stay healthy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:17 PM)

I will say this in his defense. The hits that have knocked him out drew fines. He's been more unlucky than soft. But Kubiak talked about learning to stay on the field, when I was down there, and Schaub needs to learn that.

cam (nashville)

Who goes to more career pro bowls...Griffin or Finnegan?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:18 PM)

Probably Finnegan. But Griffin is a great player already.

Fred (Colorado Springs)

For a while, there was talk that Marvin Harrison would test the market, then maybe come back and sign with the colts for reduced salary. A - do you think his pride would let him come back to the colts, and B - with the drafting of Collie and the emergence of Garcon, are the colts even interested anymore.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:19 PM)

I feel like they've moved on.It's standard policy that when you let a big time guy go, you talk about the potential for bringing him back. It softens things.Barring a slew of injuries, I don't see it.

Fred (Colorado Springs)

Texans sure picked up a lot of ex colts this year - I think it was three or four at last count. Do they really think they have the talent to make their team, or is it a way to get knowledge of the colts and their schemes, but the players will never see the field in a houston uniform.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:20 PM)

Getting knowledge of another team's schemes from a former player is incredibly overrated. You think the Texans learn more about the Colts' defense from their offensive coaches studying film or from Cato June?

Dustin (Wilmington)

Whats the chances that Bulluck stays a titan after this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:21 PM)

Thirty percent. A lot depends on CBA. A lot depends on how he plays.

Jeremy (TN)

there was an article in today's tennessean regarding chris henry. what do the titans ultimately do with him?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:21 PM)

Cut him at the end of camp.

Anthony (ILL)

You think Colts will finish with 10 or more wins this season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:21 PM)

Yes, right around there, 10-12 wins.

Derek (KC)

Colts championship window still open? Is it a dumb question as long as 18 is on the sideline

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:22 PM)

Window is open as long as Manning is Manning and Polian is Polian.

Tom (Chicagoland)

Is it possible for something actually interesting and positive to happen to a team between now and the start of training camp, or is signing draft picks all I have to look forward to for the next month?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:22 PM)

Draft picks baby!

Justin (NYC)

Obviously you dont think so highly of Garrard since the Jags are expected to stay on the bottom half of the AFC South

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:23 PM)

I think he's on the fourth-best team in the division, probably. But it's not time for the Garrard Declaration yet. After this season.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Has Mad Mike posted any questions? Haven't seen anything from him. And if we're seeing back to back replies to the same person does that mean the rest of us need to step up with better questions?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:24 PM)

Yes. But only five more minutes.

Justin (NYC)

Over under on the Jags having a winning record?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:24 PM)

I think you are asking for a percentage for an over under: 19.5 percent.

Chris (Indy)

Does Manning shatter Brady's TD record this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:26 PM)

Shatter? You think someone is going to shatter 50?

Steven (INDY)

You do have to admit though Slaton is an only back where as CJ split carries. Who knows if CJ could handle the full load for 16 games. By the way Slaton had better stats. Also you still have not admitted that the speed thing didn't lead to longer runs or passes b/c Slaton had longer of both.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:27 PM)

It's not Chris Johnson's fault his team is better built.Longer runs and catches aren't the measure. The speed is the measure. Slaton is fast. Johnson is faster. You're going to hate the Double Coverage Debate next week on who's better, MJD or CJ.

Jim Sorgi (Indianapolis)

What does a guy gotta do to get a question answered here? No wonder Peyton says he feels like the communication isn't there and he's left in the dark. Anyway, do you see me retaining my job or does this Painter fella make the team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:28 PM)

I like to deal with starters, then situational players. If Painter makes it, he's third. Polian's said that, anyway.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

I'd love to have taken the Justin question. What can we honestly expect from a team that has to comptete with young receivers, young and injured lineman and (with all due respect to David) a QB who thus far has been a one hit wonder. David made his receivers look better than they were in 2007. He needs to consistently do that in order to be considered as a highly regarded player. That doesn't mean he is bad. What say you Kuharsky?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:28 PM)

I agree.

Josh (Houston)

Super Bowl is in Miami this year, any chance a home team finally makes it? (Considering 2011 is in Dallas, we know it won't happen then)

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:29 PM)

Anything's possible, but I won't rate Miami as first- or second-tier AFC contenders.

Alex (Cookeville)

At Jeff Fisher's softball game last week, Hawk got voted the Least Valuable Player because of his inability to do what we're currently paying him to do: Catch a Ball. Granted it id a softball and that's different, but still. This week, Fisher comes out and says that Hawk "Left his hands at home today." Do you smell a cut Hawkins by the end of camp? Maybe he and Chris Henry can go team hunting together

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:30 PM)

I heard he was embarrassingly bad at softball.I don't see him getting cut this year -- year two is too soon.

Vince Lombardi (The Great Beyond)

How about one of my great quotes for your chat: "If you aren't fired with enthusiasm you'll be fired with enthusiasm". Tell these guys to bring their best with everyone question\comment they offer up.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:32 PM)

And on that note...Thanks everyone, and sorry for the troubles Thursday.Friend me at facebook: "Paul Kuharsky Espn" (don't forget the Espn part.)Follow me on Twitter: "espn_afcsouth"Hit the mailbag any time.Catch me on Nashville radio Tues. @ 8am CT, Thurs. @ 7am CT and Fri. @ 8am CT.Have a wonderful weekend.

Josh (Houston)

Other than the AFC East because it reeks of TG, what other division would you like to cover?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:34 PM)

I've got it great and love it in Nashville and in the AFC South.

Dustin (Wilmington)

Werent other teams more concerned with Andre Johnson than Slaton so they played further off while the Titans didnt have big talent at the receiving position so the defenses would stack more guys in the box, so CJ is better for putting up those numbers, this is my response to the comparison between slaton and cjThis is just my opinion

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:39 PM)

And a smart one, I think.
