How's it going folks? So who's on your list for the Hall of Fame?
From reading some of the driver's comments after the big wreck on Sunday, mostly Vickers and Truex Jr., do most drivers not respect Kyle Busch? Was it really his fault or another Dale Jr. miscue?
Kyle was a little aggressive (as is his nature) but it was a typical restart wreck where one drivers spins the tires (Earnhardt Jr. in this case) and a chain reaction happens behind him.
Terry, Whos your pick for Daytona?
I'll go with Gordon, but all the Hendrick cars will be strong. Kyle also will be in the hunt, and Tony Stewart could win it. The restarts at Daytona will be something to see.
is mcgrew solidifying himself as jrs cc for 2010?
Too early to say, but NH was a big step in the right direction.
Hi Terry,What are the chances of Ricky Rudd making it into the Nascar Hall of Fame?
No chance for the inaugural class. A decent chance sometime down the road.
Does it look good for J.Mayfied to get back in the car?
I seriously doubt it. Winning injuctions is a difficult thing to do. But you never know for sure.
Just recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed.... will kenseth sweep daytona this sat?
Sorry about the tooth. I doubt Kenseth will win Saturday night. His victory in the 500 was a rain gamble being at the right place, right time thing. But he could use a good run. They are struggling.
I agree with the five nominees that you have getting in the HOF. I think there is one wild card however. NASCAR has been promoting diversity pretty heavily. I would not be surprised to see Wendell Scott slip in over Bill Jr. Thoughts?
You never know, but it isn't NASCAR's decision. It's a panel of 50 voters and one combined vote from the fans.
What's your opinion on the Danica to Hendrick and Jr. to JR Motorsports with Keselowski rumors?
Not a chance in you know where.
TB, But for the 99 in Sonoma and rain in NH, the 88 was kept from Consecutive top tens. Tim Brewer said it yesterday, Jr is in the garage, learning the car AND Rick said he's working on his fitness/diet. Mr. McGrew seems to be the real deal (great psychologist and engineer) - the 88 seems poised for a good second half. Thoughts?
I expect them to keep improving, but I'm not sure the team is ready for a dramatic jump forward. They are doing the right things to get better and it will pay off. One trip to Victory Lane would do a world of good to Earnhardt's confidence.
Blount, Any thoughts on FOTA's leaving and then rejoining FIA?
It's all a big game of bluff Rick. Mosley and Bernie got scared and FOTA got what it wanted, including the end for Mosley.
Hey Terry. How come you didn't answer? :( What's your opinion on the Danica to Hendrick and Jr. to JR Motorsports with Keselowski rumors?
I didn't answer, maybe it didn't show up. My answer is not a chance in you know where.
Hey Terry, I enjoy your insight and coverage. WHo is the most interesting and genuine driver that you have interviewed or covered?
The most interesting was Earnhardt Sr. A very calculating man who was way smarter than he led people to believe. He really knew how to manipulate people to his advantage. The most genuine for me is Helio Castroneves. And the most blantantly honest is A.J. Foyt. Be carefful what you ask because he sure as heck will tell you what he thinks.
I just can't see two Frances' in the hall before there are two Pettys' The King and Lee should both get in first with Big Bill, Dale Sr. and David Pearson. Bill Jr next time.
Bill Jr. might not make the first class simply because some voters won't select both of them at the same time. The same is true for the Pettys, but Lee as far less chance of making the first class than Bill Jr.
Terry! Wow! Five guys, 17 points, three chase spots. 17, 5, 42, 9, 00, who gets in?
I may do a blog on this. It will be fun to watch. I say Martin makes it and maybe JPM and Kenseth.
Just watching Danica play the media when it comes to talking about Nascar, I'd put her in the Dale Sr. category as far as manipulating people, what do you think?
She has bene well-coached by her agents and PR reps as to what to say and how to say it about her contract negotiations.
how about starting the race a little sooner so we can finish under green flag racing??!!!!
The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned Derrick, but those decisions are made way above my pay grade.
3.5 weeks until indy, any inklings on what we might expect. Decent race? Johnson and Hamlin up front?
Without question it should be a better race than last's year's tire debacle. And the new restart rule should make for a little better racing at a track that normally doesn't have much side-by-side action. Yes, JJ will be up front.
Does Juan Montoya have a shot at the Cup if he makes it to the Chase?
If you just get in you have shot because all you need to do is get hot for 10 races. But does he have a good shot? No. Not really. He's not going to out run JJ, Stewart, Gordon, Edwards, etc. for the title.
your top five picks for the Hall of Fame?
As listed in my column _ Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr., Bill France Sr., Bill France Jr. and David Pearson.
Hold the phone! Are you saying my man, Kasey won't make it in to the Chase?! You cut me deep Terry!
Kasey is running much better and has a real shot at it. The question is how many new Dodge engines does RPM have?
Hey Terry, we could have two 3-race winners and the Daytona 500 champion and 2-race winner out of the chase. I doubt those pieces all fall into place, but shouldn't there be a win-and-in rule for the chase. Maybe race winners in the top 20 and who ever is left to fill the remainder of slots up to 12?
Ive said many times the Chase needs a win-you're-in element, provided you rank in the top 20.
do you think Daytona will be another bad race for the restrictor plate? or do you like those races?
I love plate racing. You never know what might happen. And the new restart rule will make this one even more exciting.
Laura must be one of those 3 girls that follow Kasey everywhere in commercial land!
Trust me JD. A lot more girls than those three follow young Kasey around.
CAN KAHNE WIN AT DAYTONA
He can, but he won't.
Hey Terry, I'm a big Dan Wheldon fan. He was doing much better as a teammate of Scott Dixon with Gnassi Racing last year. What was his incentive in leaving and joining Panther Racing?
No incentive. He didn't have a choice about staying at Ganassi. Dario got his seat.
Do you think that Jeff Burton can pull it together and make it back in the chase?
No, not unless RCR shows a dramatic turnaround in performance over the summer.
When does the lead driver have to decide which lane he restarts in for the double-file restart? I imagine there will be some interesting alliances happening behind the leaders and the lane choice could be a double-edged sword.
He has to decide when NASCAR tells the drivers to double up as they start the final yellow lap.
Who ratted me out to JD! Is it me or do all those women in those commercials look like they could be Kaseys mom. Its kinda wrong
LOL. Good point Laura. The girls who follow him in the garage sure don't look like his mom.
When can drivers qualify for the hall? Is there a five years after retirement clause like the NFL has?
Three years retired. But team owners are eligible now if they have 10 years in the business. That's make Hendrick a lock soon.
I will say this TB...Kyle B. impressed me this weekend with 1) his apology and 2) I was also impressed with his knowledge of cars/set-ups after watching an old "story" about him on cable this weekend. You think he's growing up?!
He has his moments when he acts like an adult, and then he has those other moments. But he's always fun to watch and interview.
When will we run out of worthy HOF contenders- 15 years? Sooner or later less than 5 per year will be worthy.
They won't run out, just like the NFL and MLB don't run out. Other's become worthy as the years go along, but there are plenty of quality candidates for now.
Who is the best upcoming driver?
Brad Keselowski, although some might not consider him upcoming any longer. Another up and comer is Justin Allgaier.
what about danica to the 88 godaddy.com nationwide car and 7 races in an HMS car?
A much more realistic possibility, but still a long shot.
Does mark martin have a chance to win the cup?
Absolutely, but first he has to get off the Chase bubble and solidify his spot in the top 12.
We always hear about open wheel drivers considering jumping to NASCAR. Do any NASCAR drivers ever talk about going to another series? Or is the money and notoriety too great?
You go where the money is, and that's NASCAR. If that isn't an option, then you go elsewhere if you can.
No benny parsons on your HOF list. What gives?
Benny will make it at some point. But you can't put everybody on the top 25.
Seems like that they should've shorten the summer race at NHMS instead of increasing it.
A lot of races need shortening before the NH races, and Pocono tops the list.
How much better would Montoya be in a Hendrick's car?
Certainly better, but not as good as JJ or Gordon.
Well it's just that since they increased the distance of the race by one lap it's been rain shorten when they get close to the end.
One lap is making the difference.
any truth to the Jayski rumor that Truex will be in the 55 at Chicago?
Not likely. MWR folks and EGR folks say things will stay the same through the end of the year.
is it me or is dale jr. in a better mood with the media too?
Much better the last couple of weeks.
Does the hall have an 'honorary' section for those such as the Adam Pettys and Kenny Irwins?
Not that I know of, but it's not a bad idea.
Will the Roush cars get their act together in time to be legit threats for the cup?
I still expect Edwards to be in the hunt at the end. Not so sure about Kenseth and Biffle.
Point taken, so does he have the chance to be as good as JJ or Gordon or he is too old for that now?
Not too old, but that's asking a lot of JPM. I think what's he's done already is pretty remarkable.
Do you think Kenseth will ever be back at the top?
No doubt. Matt's a great driver. The team is just a little off right now, as is Roush Fenway in general. Kenseth will remaina title contenders for many years to come.
Will RPM go to Toyota?
It's possible, but not this year. No one knows for sure what Dodge is going to do long term.
How much longer do you think Kurt will be driving for Penske if they have another off year next season?
They are having a pretty good year in 2009 with the 2 car. But Kurt wants to win championships. If he feels that isn't a good option at Penske, he'll move on in 2011.
does the 88 get a win this weekend or at dega?
He probably has a better chance at those tracks than anywhere else, but I'll say no.
WILL MARK MARTIN STILL BE RACING PAST 2010?
Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I think he will keep racing as long as someone is willing to give him a quality ride.
Gotta run folks. Off to do NASCAR Now. I'll be discussing Mayfield, Truex and the Hall nominees. Have a great week. Peace.
