Chat with Andrew Feldman

Andrew Feldman
  (3:58 PM)

I'm live at the feature table and ready to take all your WSOP questions! Send 'em in and we'll get started shortly.

alex (champaign)

in your blog, when u said ivey got lucky in the jacks vs queens hand, did all the money go in and phil got lucky or did he hit the flop and then the money went in, how did it go down?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:01 PM)

He hit the jack on the flop after all the money was in.

seth (saten island)

are there any rumors on why Antonio Esfandiari still is not signed any sponsorship deals i though the WPT was a settled issue already?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:02 PM)

He told me before play started he wanted "6-figures baby". The WPT deal is settled, but he's holding out for really big money if he could possibly make it to N9. So far,he's spewing chips though...not a good start.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:02 PM)

Down to 58 players...

Rick (Oakland)

As stated in Wise's column, Chan thinks Ivey is the greatest poker player ever. Is he?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:04 PM)

Can you argue with Chan the man? Ivey crushes the cash games, when he actually puts efforts into tournaments he wins and he can intimidate even the spectators...The argument between Ungar and Ivey will continue, but right now, I think if Ivey can make this final table, it's all his.

Joe (NYC)

Any idea what would make a good player like Jordan Morgan put 50 BB in preflop with AQ?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:05 PM)

Either a bad read or fatigue. He was playing small-ball most of Day 5, so it surprised me that he came out firing on Day 6.

Phil (Chicago)

I saw you twittered Antonio lost first 3 pots he played. How many chips are we talking?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:08 PM)

Probably down a million so far today. He won a couple of blinds since then, but nothing significant. He's involved in another hand now...A-4-10-10-K board, his opponent bets 400K on the river and Antonio folds.

Kevin (Boston, MA)

I saw a pic of Dan Harrington with tape on his green hat covering the Sox logos. What is the reason for this and are they making Philips cover his Cardinals logos?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:09 PM)

That was an old picture, sorry for using it. He was not covering anything this time around.

Sylvain (Calgary)

Another early night on tap for you Andrew?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:10 PM)

Doubtful. Even though we've lost five players already, it is going to slow down considerably I'm sure.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:10 PM)

Scott Bohlman out in 58th.

Sarge (Lees Summit, MO)

Any update on Joe SeBok? I know he was short. Is he one of the early eliminations? I'm hoping he can make a comeback.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:11 PM)

Very short right now. Down to about $450,000. He needs a double quick...

Wayne (PA)

What's Prahlad Freidman up to? And how many chips do you think a player will need to have in the final 27 to position themselves for the N9?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:12 PM)

Prahlad was eliminated on the first hand of the day with his K-Q ran into A-K.I think around $10 million would be a great stack to have at the end of today to put yourself in position for the N9 run tomorrow.

Steve (Chicago)

Are most of the players left as big of donkeys as they seem from the updates. Open shove for 1.2M with 44? What?!?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:13 PM)

Some players are good. Others aren't playing very well. That said, being patient is key today and opening for 25 bbs isn't the best decision at this point.

Ricky (Chattanooga)

Who decides who is at the featured table and the secondary table. Which brings me to my next question how is Ivey not at one of them. Blows my mind.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:14 PM)

The producers decide who will be at featured and secondary and I'm shocked that right now we don't have Ivey, Phillips, Schneider or Sebok...who was just eliminated...in 56th

Chris ((Costa Mesa))

I can't seem to get enough on the emergence of the Dennis Phillips story. How does he look today? Is he still loose and looking like he's having fun or is he starting to look a little warn down???

Andrew Feldman
  (4:19 PM)

He's been looking a little more tired each day, but that's expected. He gave away some key chips on the first few hands, but has since tightened up his play. He's been here before and knows that he needs to be patient and not get swept up in the preflop shovefest we still have going on.

Brad (Seattle)

What would happen if somebody was at one of the TV tables, and continually "accidentally" had their hole-cam blocked as they checked their cards? Would the TV guys make a point to say "he's not showing his hole cards" and 'force' the guy to make sure the cards were viewable by the hole-cam?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:24 PM)

They'll ask the player to try and use the cameras. That's about the best they can do.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:24 PM)

Internet is MISERABLE here.

JJ BANKS (New Jersey)

What's the best cash game story you've heard about Bobby's Room so far?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:25 PM)

The fact that the games have been going nonstop since Ivey (and Benyamine) have been in the main event and not down there playing...

dwhit110 (Cincinnati, OH)

If Ivey makes the N9 how is he going to convince the ESPN cameras not to feature his table?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:25 PM)

Haha. I think we'll see a change in Phil if he were to make the N9. He knows how much this means, but he's got to get there first.

mo (tampa)

Does it not affect the integrity of the tournament when producers are choosing who to match up on the featured table?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:26 PM)

They don't choose who to match up, they choose the table they want. The players are already there and not put in by TV.

PJ (Charlotte)

Andrew: If Phil Ivey makes the final table can he win WSOP POY?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:27 PM)

No, Jeffrey Lisandro already has that locked up.

John (Delaware)

Do you think this was one of the softest ME fields ever due to such lack of patience and pace of eliminations seen when levels are so long?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:28 PM)

I would say yes, but at the same time, we're seeing more pros deep this year than ever before. So maybe while it started out at a lower skill level, I think it's caught up and the field that remains is relatively solid.

Sylvain (Calgary)

What's the atmosphere like in the Amazon Room? is their alot of hooping and hollaring when a big name or a player with alot of support takes down a pot? or is it very serious now?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:29 PM)

There was actually a bigger hand on the outside tables that resulted in Tom Schneider's wife yelling, so I think he won...Yep, he doubled up.

Greg (Louisville, Kentucky)

Any update on Leo, the final female left in tourney? Would be great for poker for her to make N9.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:30 PM)

It would be amazing for her to make it, but she started out on a downward slope to start the day...

Bored (At Work)

How come there has been no talk or articles about the 2 Bilzarian brothers who made a deepr un?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:30 PM)

You'll see the story on TV.

wayne (Cotati, CA)

So Andrew, essentially you are saying, the tables are drawn then the producers look at the tables and decide which they want to film, correct? By the way, Brad, great question on blocking the hole card cam.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:31 PM)

Correct. The table lists are put out and then the producers try to figure out which one will make for the best TV.

Jerome (LV, NV)

If I win the main event, how is that not better than Lisandro's year, or anyone elses year, ever??

Andrew Feldman
  (4:31 PM)

Because the POY structure is a little bit flawed...the main event doesn't get enough recognition in the system.

Teller (Dedham)

Have you been able to tell if Ivey has slowed down at all with the French guy with a ton of chips on his left?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:32 PM)

Umm, no. Ivey is up on the day to over $7 million. Still behind Moon who is at $10.

Teller (Dedham)

Will they start going hand for hand around prize steps now? It's getting to be pretty significant

Andrew Feldman
  (4:32 PM)

I would've thought so, but that's actually not the plan. They're going to keep playing it out, but the players know where the real money is and will be watching the number of remaining players.

Metcalf (Dallas)

Heading out to Vegas on Thursday thru Sunday. Any chance at catching any of the big time players out and about somewhere? Where do they hang out and play?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:33 PM)

Head to the Bellagio. They're all there.

Jobin (Delaware)

I see you're Twittering at the same time as your chat. Are you counting down the minutes till this WSOP is over?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:33 PM)

Haha, yes and no. Yes because sleep would be nice. No because let's face it, Bristol CT isn't the most happening place in the world.

joe (ca)

Any further details on how Kevin O'Donnell got into the tournament?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:34 PM)

I've got nothing on this one, but I'm sure the details will come out after the WSOP is over.

Lou Diamond Phillips (Hollywood, CA)

Was I the last celebrity out? If not, who and what did they place/cash?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:35 PM)

Yes you were. You finished in 186th

Phil Gordon (?)

What ever happened to you getting 100000 "what ever happened to this person" questions?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:36 PM)

I guess the main event started...thankfully.

Stan (NY)

How is Steve Begleiter doing today? He started 4th in chips I think.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:36 PM)

He's sitting directly in front of me. Nice guy and now has a Full Tilt Poker logo on his hat. That came out of nowhere...

JJ BANKS (New Jersey)

How did Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang do this year?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:36 PM)

Poor.

Keith (Louisville, Kentucky)

The pro players in this tourney and some with larger stakes like the 40K and the 50K HORSE - how do they handle the cash, do they just keep something like an account with the casinos or do they actually carry around huge amounts of cash?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:37 PM)

A lot of players have accounts at the cages where they can keep the money. Some players, however, choose to walk around with wads of cash. It's actually quite sickening...

C-Dub (Lancaster, PA)

What chip denoms are in play, and how many chips (not value total but number of physical chips) are in the biggest stacks?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:38 PM)

$100,000 chips were introduced yesterday. Think about that...that's 10 players! Then there's the $25K chip and the $5,000 chip. I can't tell you how many chips are inthe biggest stack...but probably near 500

Ryan (NY NY)

What do they do with the WSOP chips after its over?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:38 PM)

Save them until next year?

Trevor (Lexington, KY)

What's Dennis Phillips' story. Does he play any tournaments other than the Main Event? Any idea of what his best non-WSOP finish is?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:39 PM)

Dennis actually traveled the world over the past year. He played in a lot of events and had some good cashes...

GMOORE (NORTH CAROLINA)

Does ivey play in the cash games now during down time if wsop?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:39 PM)

Yes. He's done it the past three nights for sure.

dwhit110 (Cincinnati, OH)

What happened to the superstitious guy who wouldn't color up. Has he been knocked out or colored up yet?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:40 PM)

He's here. His name is Ryan Fair and is sitting next to Antonio Esfandiari at the feature table...wearing a UB logo. He's got a following here and has had some poker success, but haven't spoken to him much. Will try to today.

Pete (Rochester, NY)

100k chips are 3 players. 250k chips are 8 and change, they'll be next.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:41 PM)

Yea, I was thinking of the buy-in. Thanks for that. Each player started with $30K this year...Meh.

Justin (Denver)

Heard Sebok is out. True?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:41 PM)

Gonzo.

Sarge (Lees Summit, MO)

Just read your blog and saw that Esfandiari googled his table prior to today. how soon do they know their table draw for the next day?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:42 PM)

Official tables were released around 2 am here, so there was plenty of time if he wanted to look it up....he just chose until the minute before.

Chris S (Oxford, UK)

When will Annette Obrestad be eligible to play at the WSOP? Do you see her becoming one of the elite players?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:42 PM)

I can't imagine why she wouldn't be. She has the success in Europe and it's about time she's eligible to play in the US.

Neal (Philly)

With play tightening up tomorrow most likely, how long do you think Day 8 will last? Longer than the 50K Horse Final Table?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:43 PM)

If I remember correctly, last year ended a little after 3:30 a.m. I'm expecting the same this year, if not longer since every player now knows exactly what will happen.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:43 PM)

All-in and a call...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:44 PM)

Wow, yelling...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:45 PM)

Big hand at feature too. Fair involved with the player in seat 8. He asks, "Are you nervous" the player responds with, "Very". Board of 7-Q-4-6-3

Andrew Feldman
  (4:45 PM)

Then the will you show if I fold...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:45 PM)

Craig Boyd out in 55th.

Phil (Chicago)

Ivey just lost 650K on AK vs A10

Andrew Feldman
  (4:46 PM)

Sure did. Running 10-10 after all-in preflop. Just a small dent in the armor.

Scottish (M-dub, NY)

Who is the editor responsible for calling you "Andy" on the front page last night?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:47 PM)

Haha, the only Page 1 editor that calls me Andy. I thought that was funny too.

C-Dub (Lancaster, PA)

Any place to see the scoring update from your WSOP Fantasy Draft?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:47 PM)

I'll post it when I can compile it...Negreanu won...I had hope that Elky could go deep, but no...

Kevin (WV)

Keep the updates on Twitter coming Andrew; they are great and easy to keep up with.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:48 PM)

I will do. I have to shoot a video after this chat and then I'll get back on the floor after a quick update to the blog when the next levle starts. The twitter is @ESPN_Poker for those that are wondering

Andrew Feldman
  (4:49 PM)

All-in and a call outside. Warren Zackey, who was NOT Eliminated (sorry about that, I need to find out who did go out that hand), just beat fair in a pot and Ryan Fair looks pretty disturbed..

Andrew (Boston)

Is it possible that Ivey was able to get himself off the feature tables like on day one. It just doesn't make sense to me that his table wouldn't be the feature table

Andrew Feldman
  (4:49 PM)

We do need to get coverage of all the players...I doubt that this table will be here long.

BigPapaQ. (Chicago)

The only thing more boring than watching a tourney, is reading one on chat..... yet I can't pull myself away.

Jim (Indianapolis)

Awesome work Mr. Feldman. Which back-to-back performance has been most impressive in series history in your opinion?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:50 PM)

As I said on the Poker Edge, I'm in the Phillips camp. He's beat out 13,200 players already over the last two years...that's simply amazing.

Joe (Green Bay) [via mobile]

True or False: losing 650k won't affevt Ivey as much as it would the other players with similar stacks.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:50 PM)

True. I think he has the experience that he'll be able to withstand a small hit.

Michael (Atlanta)

I liked what they did in '05 when they held the main event at the Rio and then moved to Binions when they got down to 27 players. Why don't they do that anymore?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:53 PM)

Binions would need a massive update to handle what comes with the WSOP these days. It's also a non-harrah's brand so I dont think it would ever move there.

Mike (Honolulu)

I side with The Raymer becuse he actually won. I also watched the 2005 WSOP last night and forgot that Raymer got sucked out on big time for most of his stack by Cantor or he would to a final table that year also. Philips is also quite impressive but he needs to make Nov.9 again because he didn't win.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:53 PM)

At what point do we think Phillips has the better record? 40? 30? 20? Final table? Win?

Pete (NC)

I'd say Dan Harrington making back to back final tables. If Phillips matches that, he is obviously #1.

Dan Harrington (Vegas)

Don't forget I finished 3rd and 4th back to back years.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:55 PM)

Not forgotten at all. Chan's 1, 1, 2 ranks #1 without question. Then Phillips, Then Raymer, then Harrington.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:55 PM)

In my order...

Tom (delaware)

did you get an electric shock from your editors for the Bristol comment??

Andrew Feldman
  (4:55 PM)

Actually they're sending me home ;-)

Scottish (M-dub, NY)

I still have to go with Harrington. The first year after the Moneymaker explosion, no one knew how to play these enormous fields. And "Action Dan" still made it back to the final table.

Jon (Naperville)

by Mike's logic Eastgate would be higher than Raymer and eastgate is my vote til philips is in the top 18

dave (medford)

what are some of the "no names" that are looking strong or playing well?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:56 PM)

Ludivic Lacay is one to watch.

Manny (Miami)

And didnt he win the ME also...considering he doesnt play fulltime...Dan the Man has to be one of the more underrated players...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:57 PM)

I don't think he's underrated at all, it's just that he doesn't play all the time. He did write the book...literally...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:57 PM)

Ok, I gotta run and do the video shoot. I'll be back tomorrow while we're down to 27, but of course, check the blog all day, the twitter(@ESPN_Poker) and etc. email poker@espnradio.com with questions and comments. Have a great Tuesday! See you all tomorrow.
