The last chat...finally. Welcome to Day 8 everyone...
Is Ivey eligible for the Full Tilt 10MM for the ME Victory?
Not that I know of. I'm pretty sure that being a FT Pro, he gets enough from FT to exempt him from the bonus.
Can you set a line on how many levels are going to be played today so I can take the under and laugh all the way to the (fake) bank?
Is play tight or are the smaller stacks pushing a lot?
Smaller stacks are pushing, that's for sure. Nick Maimone has gotten lucky twice already. The second time against Ivey's jacks...and quite painful to watch. So far, not his day, but he sitll has over 9M in chips.
We've seen some big swings in Phil Ivey's play in the past few days; do you think he can keep the emotions in check to win it all?
He's emotion-less. He sits and stares whether he wins or loses. not even a smirk after his jacks were cracked by Q-5.
How are you such a fast twitterer Andrew? Your speed is really impressive.
You should get these Bluff guys some extra resources and maybe they'll be able to keep up. Lance told me to say that.
What is the average chip stack? How many chips does Ivey have now after the blow with JJ.
Average is $8.1 mil, Ivey has 9.1 mil.
What do you think of Darvin Moon and his style? or is he just card-racking like it appears from some updates?
I wish I was making it up, but he has had more aces in this tournament than probably an online pro would get in a full day's work. Card. Rack.
which would be bigger for ivey: a ME bracelet or a HORSE bracelet?
My first thought was main event, but the HORSE bracelet has so much prestige. However, as Lance Bradley just said next to me, "It's the one bracelet that no pro can get right now"
There havent been many updates on Antonio yet. How is he doing so far?
Nothing much. The secondary feature has been relatively quiet.
Is Card Player a rival to ESPN? Seems that ESPN works with BLUFF alot. Is that a reason not too many Schulman updates?
Not at all. Jeff just doesn't seem to be media friendly right now. There are some interesting rumors about his intentions with the N9 that I guess only time will tell how much he will be involved.
Do any of the remaining players have notable finishes at this year's or any prior WSOP's?
Besides Phil and Antonio, Jordan Smith won a bracelet in Event 36 this year, Shulman has a main event final table as well where went in with the chip lead.
Hoe is Joey cada doing?
Wearing Ultimate Bet branding he looks more like Craig Marquis than ever before. So far he's doing fine, been splashing around...
Andrew - what are you going to do once this year WSOP ends?
No really, we actually cover the poker work in its entirety on ESPN.com year-round and coming later this month, you'll see a brand new addition to our poker offerings.
Are any of the final 27 just regular "joes" like Moneymaker was?
A lot of them. Especially Darvin Moon.
of the 24 remaining, how many are wearing headsets/dark glasses vs. plain old poker faces ?
I'm just going to weigh in from what I see in front of me. There are sunglasses on four players at the feature. 7 hats.
how big was the ovation for Margets?
Pretty loud. She had quite a following from Spain here in Vegas.
Do you think there is added pressure on Phil and Antonio as they get close to the Final 9 or is the pressure going to be on them all day, because of their peers?
I would say yes, Scott. Although they might not admit it, I know that other pros are probably rooting for them and have probably spoken to them about the possibilities available to them if they were to make it. That said, I bet Ivey is under less pressure than Antonio.
Andrew, what kind of chip stack do you think could be considered comfortable heading into the final two tables?
With two tables left, I'd love to have 15 million and feel comfortable.
Do you think ESPN is praying that either Antonio or Ivey make it to the FT because they want ratings to be high?
Not saying anything too new here, but of course! A final table with one of them will get higher ratings than one without them.
What happened to my main man Joe Ward?
Brutal beat to end the night last night A-K<A-Q, obviously that would happen. And, if you listened to the Poker Edge podcast, you could win a Full Tilt Poker hoodie because of him...take a listen and send us in an email.
Andrew, why do you keep starring at me?
You tweeting during the chat?
I haven't been...but nothing much has happened so far this hour. Just a bunch of small pots.
All in and a call between Jordan Smith and Nick Maimone
7-7 for Nick, 10-10 for Jordan, board of 8-Q-4.He hits a 7. Unreal.
Wow. Thats three lucky hits for Nick today.
Best fan comment: "Norman Chad is going to love you, Nick"
How do you spend so many hours a day walking around watching poker?
What are Phil and Antonio sitting at right now?
Phil at feature. Antonio at secondary feature.
Is Leo the only elimination today?
Leo, Francois and Jesse Habbak
can u explain why magician doesnt have a sponsor. many less talented players have sponsorship, i dont get it.
He's holding out. Read the column we just posted on that: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/columns/story?columnist=wise_gary
Big pot between Ivey and Jordan Smith...board 5s-Qh-10s-Qs-As
Jordan wins the pot with a river ace.
Does the crowd have any one particular player that they are pulling for to make the final table?
Nick has fans, Ivey has fans, Jordan smith has 1 fan who yells loudly, not sure who else has fans since those are the most active players.
No flush on that board?
Nope...I think if either one put chip sin the pot postflop, they could've taken it down without a showdown.
where does that put Phil?
How is Andrew "Lucky Chewy" Lichtenberger doing? Is he playing at same table as Ivey or Antonio?
Yes he is. very quiet...I dont think he's done anything yet, maybe one or two small pots
Since Jeff "Happy" is on Phil's left, is that creating problems for Phil today?
They haven't really gotten involved besides one pot that Shulman took down.
Is the November 9 dynamic here to stay? Or is it a limited duration experiment? Do you like it?
I don't know how long it will stay and while I'm not in love with it, I don't hate it. All I know is that for 9 players, they'll be celebrities for the next four months and get plenty of $$ from sponsors.
Are you doing a Poker Edge podcast tomorrow to recap tonight's events?
Of course! As long as I don't miss my flight.
When is the next big pay jump? I agree with your blog that Antonio and Phil will start chipping up when the money gets higher. At least Phil isn't playing for a sponsor deal.
Big pay jump comes at 18. That bubble might last a while and I'd htink that Phil/Antonio could pick on the newbies who are making their first big score.
Is anyone sponsored by a non-poker related business?
Besides Dennis Phillips, no. Andrew involved in a pot now.
If Ivy makes it through today, any chance you could get him on the podcast?
I can beg. But he really has avoided everying.
Joe and Andrew near $1.5 M pot so far with board of K-J-J-2-4...
Andrew shows 3-3 which is good enough to win the pot after they checked turn and river.
What??? No chat tomorrow to talk about the N9?
I'm flying home. I'll chat next week to discuss the N9.
Any ridiculous calls deep in the tournament for the clock this year?
Just one that I saw at the end of Day 4 when a player was trying to stall and make it through to Day 5. The table waited about 10 seconds and called the clock on him.
I'm getting worried, Andrew. My man Ivey looks like he's dropping like a rock. Give me some hope to cling to...
Just won the blinds. Be happy.
Do you know why the person mucked A-A pre-flop after Dennis Phillip's call yesterday?
Yes, they didn't see Dennis had made the call and was trying to collect the pot...until Phillips still had cards.
anyone showing any bluffs at this point?
Actually, great point, not at all. I haven't seen one shown bluff yet today.
I just wanted to thank you for all the chats you did this year-was really nice to get a feel for what was going on at the series before going out there while I was stuck here at work, and weird as it sounds, I kind of missed it when I was out there. So once again, thanks.
Glad I could keep everyone entertained for an hour a day...it was fun to do as well..I'm sure we'll do it again next year.
Of all the pros (including those eliminated from this year's ME), who do you think stands the best chance of winning it all?
Andrew, a couple days ago you mentioned a player having 2 bodyguards in the Amazon Room either in your blog or chat, can you expand more on that or was it just a rumor?
No. Actually there's a story behind that guy, but nobody can confirm it. Sorry
How many "Cantu in 2008" meltdowns do you think we'll see today before all is said and done?
The final table is not being broadcast online or on TV live, correct?
As far as I know, it'll be on ESPN TV as scheduled in November. I know there were discussions that ESPN360 might pick it up, but I doubt that it will happen.
How late do you think they'll go tonight?
4 am PT.
With UFC being the "Main Event" out in Vegas this past weekend, have you seen any fighters show up at the WSOP?
Last year, when they got down to heads-up, ESPN managed to boil down hours' worth of HU action to 2 hands. Any chance ESPN would find a way to produce more extensive final table coverage in case 2 hours isn't enough to legitimately recap action?
I really hope so. There have also been discussions that we'll have all the hands on ESPN.com, but who knows if that will actually happen.
who is the dark horse in your opinion to win it all? i like jeff shulman
Do pros typically report all their winnings on their taxes? I would assume no.
I would think they have to. Especially when they win big tournaments and it's publicly noted how much they have won.
Any big names in the audience so far?
Andrew, great work - you are the primary live WSOP feed for those who are offsite, and that's a beautiful thing. Do they pay you by the hour?
Best question/comment yet. And No.
What is the likelihood that Ivey wins more in prop bets for the ME than prize money?
50/50. He'd have to get to the final table first.
So is that a no on see any UFC brass or fighters
Sorry, I thought I answered that. Mike Swick played, others walked around, but I think they were all too busy this week.
when does ESPN coverage start for ME?
What's your prediction for the 10th place elimination hand - will it be something unremarkable, or nastiness ala set over set or a 2 outer?
Marco is all-in right now...
Marco all in for 2.74 mil...
waiting on Jordan Smith...
Ivey has JJ vs Marco's QQ
7 on the turn
4 on the river. Ivey down to 6...
How many people that busted out of the ME went over to the Bellagio to play in the 15 K WPT event?
A ton. The first starting day only had around 70 players, but the second day had a goo dshowing. Correction, Ivey down to 5.41
Note to Phil Ivey, when its down to 25 players in the ME, stay away from JACKS. Thats two huge pots today and that was the hand he was eliminated with in 05
Phil's least favorite hand has to be JJ right now
just one of those days for Ivey.
Lon McEachern is going to go nuts. He hates JJ.
Why is Phil Ivey Chocking?
Is he choking or getting unlucky. Nick should've been done with the Q-5...then the tightest guy at the table finally wakes up with QQ...yes, he probably could've folded, but still, it could've been a squeeze after an early position raise.
How does my boss expect me to work?? Dont they know were down to 25 players here??!!!
ESPN needs Ivey to make the FT..If not it will be same boring collection of players like last year..
I think that Antonio would be just as good...but he needs chips too
Phil is getting unlucky. If you wanna see choking watch Scotty Nguyen in '07.
whether it's his fault or not, people are gonna say Phil Ivey choked if he can't make the N9
Long way to go still, everyone seems to be playing tight with the cutoff at 18 coming up...
Can you shed some light on Billy Kopp. How is he doing today, and where do you predict him to finish?
Billy is doing just fine. He's been playing solid and I expect to see him as part of the N9
What is esfandiari at?
$4.6 after just losing another pot
What's the mood in the room right now? How are the players playing overall?
Serious mood. I think the fans are stunned that we've seen such a drop in Ivey's stack.
flop of Q-5-10
Phil takes the pot.
who is big stack and what are they at?
Kopp at 21 mil.
Andrew do you think Phil changed his play today or just running into coolers?
Coolers. Marco could've easily had A-K there...
10 minutes left in the level
Andrew, before this hour is up, we wanted to thank you for all the entertainment over the last few weeks. We have needed it badly to keep our spirits up.
He got moved to the outside feature and has 17.5 mil
how is the table talk? is everyone serious and not talking or are there some personalities? is antonio yucking it up at all?
It's pretty quiet out here. I haven't been around Antonio this hour, but when things get serious, it's typically not his style to quiet down.
Big pot at secondary feature....
Lots of yelling.
I think for James James James
As it stands now, who are you picking to win? Just throw out a shot in the dark.
Antonio is out
Ok, gotta run guys. Thanks for all the questions, I'll have another chat next week were we can discuss the N9!
