No Ed, there's no conspiracy here. NASCAR would have loved for PRM to win it. Would have been huge news and great pub for the series. The problem here is the system. Something needs to change. Adding speedometers seems logical, and also post the speeds of the speeders when they are caught.
K. Busch blows a tire and blames the car or the tires or following the 71 or any other number of things besides himself. Jr. blows an engine and puts the blame squarely on his shoulders. Both completely random mishaps, two entirely different responses. I think that is why one driver is the most popular in the sport and one gets booed every week. Your thoughts. On a similar note, how many times can Busch throw everyone under the bus and still have them give 110% for him?
I thought Kyle handled this situation pretty well compared to some of his outbursts previously this year. He remained calm when he was interviewed. It was a step in the right direction.
But isn't the point that JPM shouldn't have even been close to speeding? He was already 5 MPH over with a 5 second lead. Surely he could have showed some restraint and came down around 55 MPH.

I think it's likely. If Hendrick will take them, why wouldn't you do that. And Rick already said they can handle the added engine production.
It is obviousl that Hendrick Car will win the 2009 Sprint Cup. Will it be the 48, 14, 5, 24 or the 39?
It's obvious now, but a lot can change in the next couple of months. At this time last year, it still looked obvious Kyle was in position to win the title. For the moment, Jimmie is the clear favorite to get his fourth in a row.

Still not convinced they are ready to win, but Indy was encouraging for Jr despite the problem at the end. He should run well at Pocono.
If Red Bull switches they become the leader to land Brad K in my mind. His biggest obstacle is finding a sponsor and if Speed gets bumped - problem solved! what do you think?
It's possible, but the first thing Red Bull has to do is make sure they get Vickers to sign his new contract. This was supposed to happen a month ago when Red Bull officials said everything was agreed to. Not it's starting to look iffy.
Terry, after seeing Brian Pattie calm down Montoya, an aggressive driver, from a PO-ed outburst and guide him to an 11th place finish, I can't help but think that maybe JGR needs to reconsider having Steve Addington as Kyle's crew chief. Addington has allowed Kyle to do whatever he wants and let his attitude get in the way of good, but non-winning finishes. Is it time for JGR to replace Addington and find a disciplinarian for Kyle?
I disagree. Steve is a very calm guy and I think that's good for Kyle. Someone screaming at him would just make it worse.
How long until Stewart gets sick of hearing he is a Hendrick driver and decides its time to build his own engines?
Why would you do that when those engines are giving you a chance to win the championship? And starting an engine program is extremely expensive, not a wise move in this economy.
Thoughts on Mayfield?
My thoughts are I'm really tired of hearing about it, but I know it's going to go on for months. NASCAR's court filing today didn't help him. They have a recording of him talking to the Aegis lab tech when Mayfield said the call to his house went to voice mail.
I read a rumor on Jayski last week that ISC still wants a second date it Kansas which means that Martinsville could be in danger of losing a date. Wouldn't you think that by now the France family has figured out that taking a race from a historic short track and giving it to a cookie cutter might just tick off the fans a bit?
Kansas will get a second race, but I doubt it's coming from Martinsville. Maybe Michigan. Most fans would be happy if it came from Cali, but it will be some ISC track.
Thoughts on Joey Logano finishing 12th at Indy after starting in the back?
I wrote about this yesterday. Two months ago most people were wondering if JGR moved Joey up too fast. But he's looking pretty good now. He made a veteran run Sunday in moving up without doing anything stupid. The kid is starting to get it, and he definitely has the talent.
The Kansas Speedway folks should take a lesson from California and see that maybe a second date isn't always the best thing for a track.
I hear you, but two dates with 75 percent capacity each are better than one date with 100 percent capacity. The events still make lots of money, so adding one increases the profit margin.
Did Kyle read Coach Gibbs Game Plan For Life? Is that what changed Kyle into nice guy with the media at Indy?
I don't really see Kyle siting in a lounge chair reading Joe's book. Kyle said last wekeend that he realizes he is only hurting his team when he reacts badly to problems.

I would love to see NASCAR rotate the All-Star race around and make it like other all-star events.

I disagree. It's just a totally different discipline. And Cup cars are much harder to drive. Just ask Juan Pablo Montoya.
Is Kyle just having a racing-funk spell? Baseball has the dog days of August were most of every major-league player hits a wall, is fatigued out. Do you notice some what of an equivalence in NASCAR drivers? And about what time do you see that?
As for the fatigue factor, I think Kyle could help himself by cutting back on NW and Truck races. But that won't happen this year. He's going to win the NW title. It isn't really about getting tired; it's about concentrating on one thing.
It seems like the first 20 laps and the last 20 laps are the only part of the race worth watching. Why doesn't Nascar shorten the races like Gordon and Earnhardt have advised?
Because track owners don't want shorter races. It's cuts their concession sales. But I agree. Most of these race are too long. Pocono should not be 500 miles.

I don't know if that's an accurate gauge of driving skill, and I'd take Schumi over almost any driver I've ever seen hold a steering wheel.

Crown Royal probably is moving to Matt's car for half of the 2010 seaosn. Matt will have several different sponsors for the other 18 races. Yates has Menard in 2010, but the 96 car needs a sponsor if Ask.com doesn't re-up.
do you have a favorite driver?
I have drivers I enjoy talking to because they always try to give meaningful and honest answers to whatever they are asked _ Jeff Burton, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon _ to name a few. And I enjoy talking to Kyle because you never know what he's going to say. Tony Stewart also is good about telling you what he really thinks.
As of today, are you counting out Kyle on making the chase? Could this be one of those things were not making the chase actually is better in the long run or for next year?
First, I haven't counted his out. He's still only 82 points outside of 12th with six races to go. If missing the Chase meant he stopped running so many races inthe two feeder series next year, then it might be good for him.
You said it was looking iffy that Vickers would resign with Red Bull. Where's the hold up coming from? Do you think Jay Frye and Red Bull Racing have decided they don't want Vickers anymore?
They definitely want him, but the terms of the deal remain a little uncertain. Team owner Dietrich Mateschitz needs to get this solved pronto because Vickers is the best thing they have right now.
Where will Bobby Labonte end up if not at Yates?
Retired maybe. Or running a partial sked.
You have stated several times that Kyle needs to scale back on his racing, why haven't you included other guys like Edwards as well?
Absolutely. I feel the same about Edwards, but he doesn't run Truck races. The point is no Cup driver should run the entire NW sked.
Terry, I read about 4 Yates cars on the Insider, I assume that means four cars but with what drivers?
Yates will not have four cars next year unless they suddenly find three more sponsors.

Yes, Chase Elliott (no, he wasn't named after the playoff) is a real phenom. But he's only 13, so it'll be a while.

I'd say it's unlikely. Remember, all these moves depend of sponsorship. If a driver has a sponsor willing to spend $15 million to back him, he'll get a ride.
Does Stewart repeat this weekend at Pocono?
It wouldn't surprise me. I also look for JPM to be good this weekend. Pocono is very similar to Indy as a relatively flat track with long straights and tight turns.
Seems like Nascar has alot of older drivers around 40 and 50 years old. Will Kyle, Denny, Joey, Ragan, Carl, Vickers, Scott Speed and those young guys be our next group of favorites?
Martin has proven this year that a driver can win consistently at 50. In general, athletes are in far better shape this day later in life. But sponsors want younger guys to promote their products and reach a demographic that buys more stuff. Of the young guys right now, Vickers and Carl are great spokesmen for sponsors.
I can't see Bobby Labonte retiring yet. I think better equipment would prove that he still can win just like Mark Martin. Your thoughts
What Mark has done will give other older drivers more opportunities in good equipment, but again, younger guys still have a advantage with some sponsors.
If Red Bull goes to Hendrick, would that not be a conflict with AMP?
No because officially they wouldn't be Hendrick cars. A fine line, I know, but they would be a team that leases equipment from Hendrick.
What is your take on a road course in the chase? You should have every style of track in the the 10 races to determine the best driver/team. I'm an oval guy, but stock cars on a road course are awesome!!!
I'm all for it. As long as road course are part of the sked, one should be in the Chase. I driver should have to race on all types of track in the playoff.

OK, I'll play along, but in no particular order: Johnson, Stewart, Edwards, Gordon, Kyle Busch, Martin, Kenseth, Harvick, Kurt Busch and Kahne.

He wants out and dosn't know if he can get out.
How can owners get their teams up to par with the Hendrick cars? There is a clear disparity between Hendrick and other teams.
I wrote today that some teams believe they are gaining ground, but it hard to do when you can't test. Teams have to test in practice while Hendrick just refines its set-up for the race.
What does Jeff Gordon need to do to compete for this years championship. Its seems like he has been missing something since the 2007 season?

Once JPM realizes he has the best car, he was going for the win. That wasn't his plan going in. But I have a hard time believing a man who doesn't have a top-5 finish this year can out-run JJ and Tony and Martin and Gordon in the playoff.
sorry if this sounds ignorant but what makes a nascar sprint car a Ford, Chevy, Toyota or Dodge besides sponsorship support, is there any parts involved or anything like that?
All the engines are different for different manufacturers. Other than that, it decals on the cars and very tiny differences on the grill.
Will Kentucky ever get a Cup race? if so where should Nascar pull a race from which track?
Kentucky won't get a race until the lawsuit against NASCAR goes away. If that happens the date will come from another SMI track. If I had to guess, I would say Atlanta.
