Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

danny pettigrew (fayetteville)

Do you think Vick would be a good fit in Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Maybe, just maybe. I've been thinking about this one for a while. Don't get me wrong, I would be surprised by this move. But the Brocnos are far from set at quarterback and general manager Brian Xanders came from Atlanta ... You just never know.

Logan (Virginia)

Have you ever met Al Davis?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Sure, a few times. Enjoyed every meeting. Al is a pretty nice guy. Very smart. I've left every encounter with him smiling. A living legend.

demar (San Diego)

Do you have any idea what the delay is in signing San Diego's 6th round pick Kevin Ellison?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

That's a weird one. He's a sixth-round pick. He needs to get to work. This kid has a chance to start, but if he misses much more time, he could mess up his chance. It's not worth it.

Jose Corona (San Diego)

Who's going to be the weak side inside linebacker now that Wilhelm is gone

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Kevin Burnett or Tim Dobbins. Both will play a lot, I think.

Jonathan (Aurora, CO)

Marshall's demeanor yesterday seemed to indicated Dove Valley is the last place he wants to be. Say for the sake of argument Marshall gets a legitimate contract extension, is all forgiven and forgotten?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Sure, I think so. I just don't see Denver giving him an extension right now.

Kevin Ryan (Austin, Texas)

Some scouts had Michael Bush rated higher than Adrian Peterson before Bush broke his leg. Can Bush become that back again then possibly out play McFadden for the starting job and can the Raiders have one of the best 1-2 punches in the NFL with Bush and McFadden?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

That's a tall task, but Bush was very good at the end of the season. I think I he can be very dangerous.

Greg (Overland Park)

From the outside perspective, it looks like LJ has finally decided to shut up and refocus on football. Do you think he could have a bounceback year after 2 disappointing seasons?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

He showed last year that he can still run. I think he can have a big year. The guy is really gifted.

Fabian (Kansas)

Any update on the possible signing of Mr Jackson? I know he said he wanted to be signed before camp, and we still have a little more time. Just wondering if you have any other info.

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

It's been really quiet. The Chiefs don't begin camp until Saturday ,so there is no rush. But it is not going to be an easy deal to finalize.

Carlos (Astoria, NY)

Am I crazy to think that, with the depth they have, this Denver rushing attack is going to be a force?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

The Broncos' rushing attack is always strong. Running specialist assistant coaches Rick Dennison and Bobby Turner remain. There is some talent there. I think it will be fine.

Andy (KC)

Would Stryker be a fit in KC's 3-4. He was a pass rush guy at Mizzou.

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think he is worth a look. I think he'd be a decent fit for a 3-4 defense such as the Kansas City's.

Stuart Fettucine (Italia)

Who is Oakland's most legitimate threat right now at receiver? What kind of number can you see him putting up?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

I'd have to say Chaz Schilens. He is raw, but he has nice skills.

Chad (Las Vegas)

This chat resembles the AFC West. That's not a good thing considering the AFC West will be the worst division in football. Yes worse than the NFC West.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Well, it is an AFC West chat.

Justin (KC)

Who will be the AFC West MVP in your opinion?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers. He's a top player on the top team in the division.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Who's the best player on the Broncos?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Still think it is cornerback Champ Bailey. If he is healthy. he is still an elite player.

Danny (Tamarac, Florida)

Is cassel going to make the pro bowl squad this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I think that may be a lot to ask for, considering he is just getting settled and he doesn't have the same weapons he had in New England.

TJ (NYC)

Can Zach Miller turn into a top 5 TE this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I think so. He is a terrific receiver and he is Oakland's most reliable weapon in the passing game.

Double (Denver)

Just read that Marshall wasn't in camp this morning? You hear anything Bill. We sure do miss your insights with the DP!

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Thanks ... the word is he was sore and thatit was a precaution. Camp really doens't start until Friday, so there is no rush. But every time Marshall is not on the field, it naturally makes you wonder.

Bill (Aurora, CO)

How do you see D.J. Williams fitting into his new 3-4 role?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

D.J. is a fine plauyer. But this is his fourth adjustment in four years. There may be some growing pains.

Chad (Las Vegas)

JaMarcus Russell and the Raiders are a disaster. But if you put Russell on a team that needs a QB and has a better front office than Oakland like Minny, Chi, TB, or Sea would he thrive?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

That may be harsh. Look, he hssn't had great protection and receiving help. But Russell needs to help hismelf as well and improve his consistency.

Zak (Virginia)

If Phillip Rivers has a bad season could he possibly lose his starting job

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

It would have to be really, really, really bad.

Shawn (Toronto)

I'm finding it hard to be optimistic for my Chiefs this year. We traded away our best offensive player but added a new guard (Goff) and QB (although Thigpen played pretty well last year). Our defense has a bunch of guys drafted for the 4-3 being converted to new positions. Could we be the worst team in the NFL in 2009?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I thimk the Cheifs will make slow prgress in 2009. Don't expect too much right away, but the team is getting better.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Which team will have the best offense this season in the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

San Diego, I do believe. Not many holes on that offense.

George the Animal Steel (WWF)

I literally laughed and spit water all over my computer screen after reading the question asking if Rivers would lose his starting job. Maybe the Colts will also bench Peyton in favor of Sorgi.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

You better find a towel, Animal.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Bill, do you think the AFC West will be the worst division this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Sadly, it may be among the league's worst once again.

Jim (Boston)

Bill, help me out! Is there an AFC East blogger? I've seen every other division but no East! Thanks.

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Of course, a good one. Tim Graham. Check him out.

chauncey (teaneck)

Is Kyle Orton a good QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

I don't think he has proven that yet.

Justin (KC)

Croyle looks to be more fit to play back-up QB is haley's system..where does Thigpen go? He surely isn't 3rd string material.

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Thigpen could potentially be trade bait. I think he is a good guy to have on your roster and I think, under the right circumstance, can succeed as a starter.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Which side of the ball will the broncos be better on this season: Offense, Defense, or Special teams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Offense. Not great, but good.

Tim Graham (AFC East)

Jim, I've been moving. I should be back this Friday. Bring some Zima!

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Get back to the move, dude.

Justin (KC)

The Radiers hae 3 (potential) stud RB's. One of them could be traded for Thigpen.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Don't see that one happening.

Smith (Oakland)

More likely to improve this season...Glen Dorsey, Darren McFadden or Jamarcus Russell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Good qusiton ... McFadden. As long he stays healthy.

Steve (Minnesota)

I know its an AFC West blog but you used to cover the Vikes, so I'll give it a shot. How do you see the NFC North playing out this season? Does your answer change with Favre in the picture?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Sure, if Favre is healthy, the Vikings would have to be a favorite. I could see Chicago improving because of a certain former AFC West resident and if Green Bay rebounds on defense, could be dangeorus. This isn't a horrible division.

Justin (KC)

BW..I was absolutely joking about Thigpen for one of the 3. Thanks for bashing my football knowledge in front of thousands.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

He was just joking, folks.

Andy (Denver)

Do you think the Chiefs, Raiders, or Broncos have any realistic shot to win this division in the next three years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Honestly, not right now. Perhaps things will change, but I think all three of those teams are pretty far behind San Diego.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Who do you see as the Comeback player of the Year in the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

I think Merriman is good starting point.

Andrew (LA)

Where do you see Mike Shanahan next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

My guess is still Washington. I just think it is a fit.

Tarek (NYC)

Bill, will Johnny lee Higgins get more looks at WR? He has amazing speed.

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Yes, I think you will see him getting a chance. The Raiders are looking for help there and Higgins could be the answer.

Billy (Compton)

Who leads the AFC West in rushing this season? Call me crazy but I say LJ. Care to disagree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

I'll stick with LT for ne more year.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Mike Shanahan will be coach of the New Orleans Saints after they flop again and don't make the playoffs so they fire Payton.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Interesting ... Why do you think New Orleans.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Interesting ... Why do you think New Orleans.

Charles (West Palm Beach)

Who do you think got the best of the trade of draft places a few years back, The Steelers trading up with Kansas City to draft Polamalu or the Chiefs taking LJ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Polamalu. Two rings. One of the best at his position.

Joey (richmond Ca)

How good could the raiders be with Jeff Garcia under the helm

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

They may be better short term, but not good enough to make the playoffs and it would kill the teamlong term. I think Russell has to be the guy unless he is a total disaster.

Clay (Charlotte)

Long term, do you see Gates ever getting to the level of success that Gonzo has had? I'm sure health would play a primary role in this argument.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I lvev Gates and he is one of the best tight ends in a long time. But Gonzo's numbers are pretty silly.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I lvev Gates and he is one of the best tight ends in a long time. But Gonzo's numbers are pretty silly.

Andy (Denver)

Do you think the Chargers will lock-up the division by week 10?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

How about week 14-15?

Justin (Denver)

Do you not get a vote in the power rankings anymore?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

We streamlined it. We have just four people doing the rankings.

steve (delaware)

If San diego were to win the super bowl, do you think this would be the year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I'm not saying the widnow is closing in San Diego, but they may want to win it all sooner than later.

Tom (Denver)

The Broncos defense looks to be improved in the secondary and at linebacker, but what about the d-line???

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

The D-line is the big concern here. There isn't a lot of experience here. I think it will really keep the Dnever defense down.

Kris (Colorado Springs)

Do you think Denver's defense will be better with the addition of Dawkins? Do you see Champ returning to his dominant ways of a couple years ago?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

He is a pro and a leader. He should really help.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Hey folks, great hour. Thanks and talk to you next week.
