Happy Thursday, gang. Let's get right to it - who's up first for this hour of fantasy chattage?
Are you okay with riding Rajai Davis while he's hot. He still gets playing time right?
Funny you should mention Rajai, Mike. I covered Hot Parade today and made the statement that a guy like Davis could have more value, depending on your team's circumstance than Justin Morneau. If it is steals you seek, Rajai's the one to ride.
What can we expect from my man Jason Bay here on out? What happened to him being one of the most consistent hitter's over the past few years?
Injuries, more than anything else.Bay's always been a 162-game if his manager will let him kind of guy, and this season, he's in a world of hurt. Hard to fault a guy who's not at full strength.
AJ, What's the latest on J Upton? Do you think he is headed for the DL? It seems injuries like this take a month or so to recover from.
Well, the last time he had it (albeit on the left side rather than the right) he missed a month. I think he definitely will miss a week. But that's a hunch, as I've not yet heard any medical reports.
So now that Bon Bon was shifted to CF where he clearly does not belong do I finally get called up? Or are they gonna shaft me with that arbitration BS!
Bonifacio is going to get some OF time to get his bat in against lefties... since Cantu and Johnson have the corners covered. But I think with Han-Ram's nagging injuries, another OF simply isn't in the mix.
I picked up Happ mid-season and he rewarded me greatly last night. Please tell me he's not going to the bullpen!
Somebody has to, with Pedro ready to join the rotation, and it's not going to be Hamels or Moyer. Unfortunately, Happ has success there, and it looks like he's odd man out.
Sandoval for Werth...fair trade?
Sure... especially given that your positional needs might be better served with "the other guy"
Will Quentin get hot or are you staying away?
Not necessarily mutually exclusive... I am staying away, but certainly there's a chance he gets hot. I just do not happen to like the odds. But if I'm sitting there with Elijah Dukes on my bench, then sure - I'll take a chance that CQ does.
What are your thoughts on making moves at this point? Does it help, or too little time for trades to affect standings...
My take is that if you're going to lose without making moves, why not make them and see what happens. Remember, you don't only have to make moves that help you - you can make a trade to another team that will allow them to pass the teams ahead of you in categories that you can't catch them in, thus getting you closer to the top.
Inge for Danks with Shoppach as the replacement? Fair Deal??
I think Inge is pretty much done for 09, so I wouldn't make the deal if I were getting Brandon... but others may disagree - that's why you have to let deals go through, regardless of this arbitrary label of "fair" that is truly only known after the season is done.
Sigh.......can i just finally tell my owners to cut me? Seems like i won't get healthy enough to play until 2010.
If you're not in a keeper, and you need that roster spot - see ya!
Which is the best option going foward?.....Doumit, Iannetta, Montero or Pierzynsky?
I'd roll with either Montero or Iannetta, and leaning towards Miguel.
AJ, How awesome is it that Ronnie is going to be gone and Russel is going with Jeff's team now? Big Brother is just like Survivor, may not think it has potential at 1st, but always delivers. Will Kershaw and Grienke bounce back in there 2nd starts this week after rough 1st starts this week?
Ryan, you assume Ronnie won't get the "Coup d'Etat" - that's a game changer. I don't think Kershaw can be started as wild as he's been lately, but I have no issue rolling with Zack.
Morning, AJ. This may (or may not) be a ridiculous question, but who do you like better the rest of the season, Beckham or Longoria?
For the rest of 2009, it's a toss up. I like Longoria better, but hey, over a short stretch, why can't Beckham out-do him? Especially given the difference in pitching staffs they'll face.
What are you thoughts on Price after his last 2 outings? Is he getting close to must-start or is he still a matchups and start-at-home type of guy?
5-1 at home makes him a start at home guy. He needs to actually win a few on the road to change my view.
AJ, I love your chats but haven't been able to get a question answered in days. Before I get a complex, can you answer this: Latos or Sanchez from here on out?
Sanchez. I've heard that Latos probably won't be pitching in September as a version of "Latos Rules" to save him for 2010.
Who do you like better for the rest of the season, Jeter or S. Drew?
Jeter. I like Drew, and had him ranked higher in the pre-season, but darn it if Jeter hasn't been stellar.
Nyjer Morgan for Jose Lopez and Rajai Davis? Do I win in this trade?
I believe you do. Lopez is on fire and then some.
Rest of the way: Carpenter or CC ?
CC - although it's really close, especially since StL finally has a lineup that can give Carp some run support.
Is Hanson going to be limited like Latos come September? I'm leaning towards dealing him because I'm concerned the Braves might shut him down early?
Hanson threw only 72 pitches last night in six innings and had the lead and they pulled him. I think that says it all.
Please rank - A. Jones, Ethier, Bay, Choo
Ethier, Jones, Choo, Bay. However, they're all in the same general neighborhood.
I assumed Adam.
AJ this is an emergency!!! Trade Reyes for Rollins and Dye in my keeper league? Can shore up my chances for a repeat by making the move, but obviously lose Reyes for next year. Thanks!!
Always try to win today. Next year might not be as rosy as you think.
Do you see Eric Young JR. getting a September call up, and do you see him making an impact? Is he worth rostering in a 12 team 5X5 league?
Yes, he'll get a call up. SBs a-plenty... not much else, especially if COL is still in wild card race.
Anyone left on the farm worth watching for help this year?
The big names have all come up - but certainly a Sutton in CIN or an Escobar in MIL might give you some Septmeber speed.
Adrian Beltre? Big things to come?
I hope so, as it would make my pre-season pick of Beltre over Longoria look a lot better, wouldn't it?
Votto vs. Youkilis for the rest of the year?
I'm not as high on Votto as others, and have always considered Youk to be solid.
2010 Indians closer: Kerry Wood or the guy with two first names (Jes Todd)?
If Wood is on the roster, Wood is the closer. But Todd will get his chance at some point.
AJ, do you like my show? If so, you never refer to it in any chats. Now, everybody AYYEEEEE..........MAJIDE!!!
Host of Majide - hilarious. I Survived Japanese Game Show? Unwatchable --- rather watch Ninja Warrior on G4.
Rank these SS: Jeter, Young, and O-Cab
You got them right.
we're blaming de la rosa's performance on the philles, not him right?
He's not blameless, but let's face it - he's not as bad as last night, and not as good as the long winning streak either.
I don't think Ronnie is likable enough to win the Coup d'etat. He's too much of a villian to get the popular vote. Better keeper - Longoria or Reynolds?
That's the question - do we want what's best for the show, or do we care if "the nice people" win... I want what's best for the show - which is Ronnie mixing things up. And while Reynolds is tops in my 09 book, longterm, it's Evan.
Twins manager hinted at Liriano being removed from rotation. Time to drop him?
About two months late on that train, Hank, my boy.
AJ, read that Hunter failed a strength test yesterday, any word on a timetable for his return??
No word yet, but they'll want him to rehab before returning. I'm expecting good things from Torii when he gets back, but certainly, failing that test isn't making me smile.
I'm going on vacation for 5 days and will be away from computer. I should just sub in Willingham for Justin Upton for the whole time, right?
That's a safe bet. And even if Upton comes back sooner than I expect, Willingham's been hot.
AJ, I do feel that we all want what is best for the show. Now that Jessie has discovered Russell's waning loyalty, I think Jessie winning the Coup d'etat tonight would be most entertaining with both Jeff and Russell up for the boot.
I think HOH is still immune from a Coup, but then again, they make these rules up as they go along... so who knows.
I'm starting to worry about Cueto, paranoid or right on? Might there be an underlying injury there?
If Dusty's the manager, your paranoia is always justified.
Keep 2: Kinsler, Mauer, Crawford...Lose a 2nd round with kinsler and a 5th with the other two
I'd keep the other two. Crawford's steals/power combo is legit and Mauer as a catcher is more valuable than Ian.
Hey AJ! What are your thoughts on Gerardo Parra? Is he a reasonable pick-up to replace Corey Hart? Or would you rather have someone like Kyle Blanks or Adam Kennedy? Thanks!
Personally, I like Blanks better, but Parra is a decent option.
I have two cheap potential keepers headed in different directions. Both costing a last rd pick... but what do you think of Howie Kendrick and JJ Hardy? Is Kendrick finally gonna break out in '10?
Of this I am certain... Hardy will not.
Which shooting star: Venable or Jones?
Venable - read my take on Hit Parade today --- Jones' production is a mirage.
AJ, it's been driving me nuts how many experts say Peavy will struggle in his new ballpark. Sure, Petco is a better pitcher's park, but look at the following information and tell me why Peavy can't be very successful pitching at US Cellular. 2009 ERAs Buerhle: Home 3.10 Away 4.81Danks: Home 3.77 Away 4.22Floyd: Home 2.38 Away 5.58Contreras: Home 4.47 Away 5.40Colon: Home 3.90 Away 4.45
Assuming full health for the moment, I expect Peavy's numbers to suffer more from the everyday facing of a DH than the ballpark, but it shouldn't be completely removed from the equation.
You starting Smoltz tonight against the Yankees?
I'm not starting Smoltz against the Bad News Bears.
Start Morgan or Mccutcheon today?
Have to pick one, I go with Nyjer.
Will Joba stay hot tonight?
I think he'll do well, but he's never had much success against Boston. I'll take 6-1/3 IP, 3 runs.
Ryan Zimmerman hit the HR yesterday, but apparently is still sore. Stick with him in Utility slot or go with red hot OCab?
I'd use O Cab and his 15-game hitting streak for now. Give Zim some time to heal up 100 percent.
Am I hear to stay or only until Wakefield returns? Any timetables?
You weren't traded, but I still think it's back to Triple-A as soon as knuckles can go.
I have Choo on one of my teams and Im trying to get another starter, so what starter(s) are equal to a choo type player
Choo's a top 40 hitter... get a top-20 pitcher, no less.
Better CF keeper: Beltran or Ellsbury?
Beltran, assuming he's healthy next season. He's a better player. Period.
Any way I live up to my projections or do I dissappoint my owners, again?
Still holding out hope for that 25-25, but it's getting bleaker by the day.
AJ, very informative chat today. Bartlett or Beckham?
If the move to leadoff is permanent I like Bartlett.
Joba's career numbers against Boston...2-0 3.12 ERA 19 K's in 17.1 innings. Those innings are 6 appearances, 2 of them starts. Yup, the Red Sox always light him up. You forget last year's start against Beckett too.
"Last 3 starts" vs. BOS - Joba is 0-1 5.73 ERA. Stats can say whatever you want them to.
Running out of time... let's get those Q's in.
AJ! Haren or Halladay the rest of the way?
Since you like reality shows, if we could really type, we would ask you what you think of our show?
YAWN and a half. Liked the show better when it was called MXC.
Berkman or Choo from here on out?
Choo. Not sure Lance has much left in his tank.
Quick one...Danks today against Angels?
Milledge, Konerko or DeRo. Please pick two of three
What do you do if someone in your league refuses to pay the Fee b/c thier trade got vetoed?
Learn to collect fees before the draft next season, which of course will not include said owner.
A Gone or Bay NEXT year???
A-Gon for me.
Vote for Pedro?
Only if bon-mots count.
in OTB you say AROD is in a huge slump, but here you give J.Bay the excuse of being hurt...arod is coming off an injury, no? sounds biased to me
Talk about reading into what someone writes. A-Rod is in a huge power slump. Fact. That's all I said. Didn't say anything more than that. And he's not CURRENTLY hurt, which Bay is.
AJ, time to end your chat with a AYYEEEE.....MAJIDE!!!!
Sounds good to me! Thanks all for the questions... as always, we'll see you the next time on Villa Alegre!
