Sorry I'm late guy. I'll go long to make up for it. What's on your mind these days?
Terry, Did you happen to catch that radio conversation between Harvick and Childress during Sunday's race? If this was the last straw, what options does Kevin have for 2010 besides RCR?
It wasn't a feel-good moment, that's for sure. But don't read too much into what's said in the heat of the moment during a race.
Can Kyle Busch realize that he is only 1 of 43 drivers on the track? Does he expect to be handed the win? Michigan was another one of those days. Now we had back to the place where he got bumped last year, and complained. I am glad he won't make the chase.
Don't count him out of the Chase just yet. Kyle's only 70 points back with there races to go, and he very good at Bristol.
do u think newman will make the chase Is stremme out at penske
I think Newman needs to stip his free fall or he's in big trouble. Stremme is skating on very thin ice.
I feel like I'm the only one that is throwing his name into the bubble, but do you think Kahne is a lock for making the chase?
Definitetly not a lock, but I believe he will make it.
Like the way you called out Helton on the car thing. Hope you and other will continue to not just view his and France's south side when they are heading north...
I understand their sensitivity about the car, but I didn't think he needed to criticize Earnhardt.
Who are your preliminary picks for Bristol Night Race ?
The Busch brothers and Edwards.
kahne having a great year for a suspect team. how well respected is he in the garage area? seems much more consistent this year
Very respected, on and off the track. He's talented driver that gets the most from his equipment.
Do you think Jimmy Johnson has a good chance at winning a Record 4 Championships?
Yes he does, but I think this one will be the toughest to get. Tony, Jeff will have a say in it, and maybe a surprise contender down the sretch like Hamlin or Kurt Busch.
I don't understand Helton's sensitivity about the car. What has hurt IndyCar is not just the lost prestige, it's the parade they call racing. The "press to pass" button they added was a good step. NASCAR needs to be more open to the same.
I think we will see minor tweaks to the car next season, but NASCAR wants to end the talk about this being a terrible car, so they hold the line on saying anything against it. And I don't think it is a terrible car. I think it just just a few adjustments to make it better.
QUESTION TO TERRY BLOUNT AT 2.40 HI TERRY REMEMBER WHEN DALE SENIOR HIT TERRY LABONTE
I do if you mean hitting Terry's car at Bristol. And that's as mad as I've ever seen Terry, not a guy who shows his emotions very often.
Even though the ole no.9 bunch is having a good year, especially in comparison to his teammates, where do you think he might end up in 2011? If he wants to win a championship, I just cannot see this coming from RPM. That no.5 car will be a hot seat for 2011, as well as a seat at SHR.
So many thing could happen before 2011. If Kasey is convinced RPM can run with the big boys and give im a chance to win a title, he'll stay. If not, he'll have a lot of options.
terry i was at the race Sunday and fan sade why is michigan always a fule race can you answer that .
Yes, because Michigan has very few cautions, so drivers don't come to pit road as often as most tracks. MIS is vey wide, so cars don't run together and hit each other much.
im a big mark martin fan and he made a mistake. do you think he can stay in the top 12? also what is his avg start and finish at bristol
Martin doe not have a top 5 finish in his last 13 starts at Bristol. I think he will make the Chase if he doesn't get caught up in a typical Bristol wreck on Saturday night.
So. Did Dale Sr hit Terry Labonte or not?
He hit Terry's car with the old chrome horn while Terry was leading the race and Earnhardt went on to win it.
Over/Under 1 green flag pit stop Saturday night? How are these double file restarts going to play into the equation? When will the announcers stop using "shootout style" after double file restarts, it may be worse than Digger.
It's very difficult to pass on the outside line at Bristol, so the leader probably will choose the inside line on restarts. And I agree on "shootout style." Give it a rest.
If Jr. is really frustrated with what Nascar is doing with the car, would he ever consider going to another series? If Nascar lost Jr, it would be a big hit.
No, Juior isn't going anywhere.
which do you think will happen first: a cup race is won by earnhardt jr or a cup race is run without somebody named david crashing?
Now there's a question I didn't see coming. I'll take the high road and say a Cup win for Junior.
That run for Jeff Gordon at Michigan said a lot about that 24 team, I think, especially in the wake of so many people doubting him because of his back. Do you think his second place run at Michigan is an indicator of how strong that 24 team truly is?
The 24 team is a serious contender, but it will be interesting to see how Jeff does Saturday night. Bristol is a tough place to drive if you have a sore back.
do you think junior is overrated because of his name? he only has a daytona race under his belt with significance. i think he is. when everybody doing bad on sunday or trying to conserve fuel he does good
I think Junior is a victim of his last name. If his name was Smith, most people would consider him a pretty good driver. The man has 18 Cup victories. You don't do that by accident. But he's had an awful year with good equipment and he needs to show he can overcome it.
Ryan McGee said that he wouldn't be opposed to Jeff Gordon sitting out Saturday night's Cup race, even though he hasn't missed a single start in his career. We both know Gordon wouldn't sit it out, but do you think it would help his title chances if he did?
It wouldn't hurt to give his back a rest. But it just isn't an option because of sponsor demands. And a ton of folks who bought tickets to the race would want their money back.
do you think tony stewart will eventually expand his operations into other motorsports?
Yes. I think he'll have an IRL team at some point within the next two of three years.
If Michael Vick was a race car driver would he have a ride now?
That's a very interesting question. NASCAR has a lot of hunters among its fans who train dogs and love them. But I think NASCAR would handle it the same way the NFL has.
Kahne has gotten into Montoya twice in the last 3 races. Wrong place wrong time or something else brewing?
There's no vendetta going. It just happens. And both drivers have too much to lose right now to worry about taking each other out.
Terry first he'll have a part-time Nationwide car (Danica) ...
Could be. Wouldn't shock me in the least.
any truth to the rumor that Kesolowski is talking to Penske about the #12?
I'm sure he is. Brad has a tough decision to make. If he signs with Roger in Cup,m he can race Earnhardt's Chevy in NW next year and he leaves the Hendrick family.
Who do you think is a better overall driver jeff gordan or tony stewart?
If I had to pick just on driving skill, I'd have to go with Tony. He's on in Indy cars and stock cars. But both men rank among the best ever to sit behind the wheel.
what is your opinion on the jeremy mayfield story?
My opinion is I'm tired of hearing about it and wish it would go away. It has become a reality TV show of it own.
I think NASCAR should swap the Talladega race in the chase with a road course. What is your take?
A lot of drivers would be in favor of that. But it won't happen. NASCAR is going to keep one restrtictor plate race in the Chase. Today on NASCAR Now I'm going to talk about whether they should move Bristol into the Chase.
Will RPM be 2 or 3 cars in 2010 with Sorenson maybe gone and the Sadler rumor it might be just the 9 and 43 your thougts?
My guess today is three cars, Sorenson stays, and they work out a deal with Dodge. But it's all up in the air at the moment.
Will NASCAR ever run Indy as a roadcourse?
No, not gonna happen.
Darlington needs to be in the chase too. Why not start it there Labor Day weekend?
Not a bad idea, but it would require starting the Chase sooner and ending the season sooner, which also isn't a bad idea.
Is it really fair for Tony to lose his lead (and maybe even behind) at the start of the Chase? How would you feel if they did away with the Chase all together?
I'm in favor of the Chase, but NASCAR needs more emphasis on winning. Drivers should earn way more points for a victory and a win should guarantee a spot in the Chase if a drivers finishes in the top 20 in the standings.
So is Danica an appealing choice for some future Nationwide ride because of her driving talent or her marketability? If the latter, Paul Menard should have a ride forever.
Danica can bring tons of sponsorship money and enormous media exposure. If she ended up being decent in the car, it's icing on the cake.
Terry, what about Jimmie passes before the start line?
That was interesting. I don't know if they warned him about it, but he clearly broke the rules.
Just saw that post so you think RPM will be back with Dodge it seemed Kahne would rather run Dodge than Toyota?
Kasey doesn't care, but he was mad team officials put him in an awkward spot by having him pose in front of a Toyota.
will you be on NASCAR Now today?
Yes, it's my day to wax poetic on TV. Tune in a 5 p.m ET, 2 pm your time Jen.
any chance NASCAR awards partial points for rained out victories?
No chance whatsoever.
Terry, a lot of "its never going to happen" by NASCAR, but do you know of any new changes NASCAR will implement next year?
I expect them to change the weight distribution of the Cup car. I don't know about next year, but fuel-injection is coming soon.
So you think they will be back with Dodge?
I think it's 60/40 they will stay with Dodge.
hey terry you think you could give me a shout out on nascar now today
Sorry Matt, no can do.
do you think the sadler rumor to rcr has an truth to it or is it just made up by someone who has no clue?
I'm sure Elliott is exploring his options, but the RCR folks say they haven't talked to him.
Which racer outside of the current Chase field has the best chance to make it in your opinion?
Vickers without a doubt. He's a great guy and I'd love to see him make it.
Terry, we've had 13 different winners already this year compared to 12 all of last year. What do you think that says about the level of competition this year?
I think it's a little misleading because two of those winners came in rain-shortened events. But it appears a few teams are starting to catch up to Hendrick, which is a good thing for more competition.
One change I would like to see is a lottery for the starting line-up when Q is rain out. What do you think? It makes things more interesting especially nearing the beginning of the chase.
I don't know about a lottery, but I think qualifying needs some excitement because it's boring as watching grass grow right now. If you can't do it Friday, try to get in in Saturday, at least for the go-or-go-homers. Really, I'd like to see them eliminate the top 35 and make every driver have to qualify on speed.
Is kyle busch's struggles this year becasue he race in to many series or just the competion catching up to the 18 team
It's a combination of things. JGR was a big behind Hendrick and that frustrated Kyle. His emotions get the best of him at times, a problem I think gets worse if he's tired. He should concentrate on Cup alone, but it's too late for that this year.
Everyone is giving Lance McGrew credit for the fuel strategy stop with 43 to go. Did anyone else hear that he Lance wanted him to stay out and the Junior actually made the call to come in? I couldn't believe it at the time but everyone seems to think that this Lance was so good on the strategy when it was actually Junior who almost won the race.
Sometimes the driver makes a good call, too. It's a balance. If a crew chief isn't sure, he sometimes will go with what the drivers wants to do.
terry what do think its gonna take to get junior back in the right direction
I thin he's headed in the right direction, but it takes time to build a relationship with a new crew chief.
I feel that we need a thrid road course race or move one of the road race into the chase, is this possible?
Probably not, but I would like to see NASCAR move the Sonoma race into the Chase. It's very difficult to change the schedule because it has a domino effect on other tracks.
Nothing was better than Vickers' post-Nationwide race comments about Kyle Busch. Has Kyle officially taken the title of "biggest whiner" away from Jeff Gordon?
I've never viewed Gordon as a whiner, but Busch certainly seems unhappy most of the these days. Why? He makes a lot of money and races for a great team. Enjoy it.
Gotta head to the studio folks. Have a great week. I'm out. Peace.
