Monday Night Football marathon!

Buzzmaster
  (4:03 PM)

Hello football fans! We'll be here each week starting at 6 p.m. ET to chat live up to and during the Monday Night Football game! Get your best questions and comments ready and submit them below!

Buzzmaster
  (5:30 PM)

Tonight, Football Outsiders' Aaron Schatz will chat from 6-7, leading into the first game of the double header!

Aaron Schatz
  (6:01 PM)

Hey all. Aaron Schatz here from Football Outsiders, ready to answer any NFL questions for the next hour as we get ready for the opening MNF doubleheader. We've got a new chat moderation interface here, so I hope I'm doing this right...

Camron Hall (alexander, north carolina)

Do you think since Brady has so many options that Moss will get ball hungry and complain about the number of passes he gets all season?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:02 PM)

If it didn't happen in 2007, I don't see any reason to believe it will happen in 2009.

Rick Myrick (Cranston,RI)

Like a lot of other people that are Pats or Bills fans, due to economic conditions, I can no longer afford the extra $50.00 per month for the upper level tier to get espn. Why can't ABC, as it did on Saturday, air espn on its regular ABC channel, at least in the New England

Aaron Schatz
  (6:04 PM)

It may be because you live in Rhode Island. Channel 5 in Boston is showing the game. I believe that it is NFL policy that games must be on free television in home markets, so I'm pretty sure that some station in Buffalo will be showing the game, and stations in San Francisco and San Diego will be showing the later game.

Sean (Philly)

Any chance that if the Pats go up 28 or so that Brady gets pulled?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:06 PM)

Sure. In 2007, the Pats put Matt Cassel in if they were up that much in the fourth quarter. People tended to think the Pats were running up the score because they would get up by 28 by halftime, but wouldn't pull Brady until the fourth quarter. But what NFL team pulls its starting quarterback in the third quarter, no matter how far ahead??

Dave (Laguna, CA)

How do the Bills shutdown Brady tonight? We saw him take a couple of hits in the preseason, but won't the speed of the game be a bit faster tonight?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:08 PM)

Hey, it's "Pageant of the Masters" country. Dave, last year Buffalo finished 28th in Football Outsiders' Adjusted Sack Rate ratings, and I see no reason to believe that their pass rush is significantly better now. Rookie pass rush specialists like Aaron Maybin often struggle to make an impact -- like Mario Williams, it takes them a year or two to get used to the pro game. They'll try to blitz Brady, I'm sure, but how much do you believe in Terrance McGee or Leodis McKelvin in single coverage on Randy Moss?

Charles (Dayton, Ohio)

What kind of season do you see Lt and Darren Sproles havng. Is it a good idea to use Sproles as a starter in fantasy football league?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:09 PM)

It might be, but only against teams like the Raiders and Broncos that have really terrible run defenses. If the Chargers are up significantly in the second half, I wouldn't be surprised to see both get a lot of carries. In most games, I would think LT is the only viable fantasy player. Even though he declined last year, he's still a very good fantasy football value because he's going to get plenty of touchdowns in that powerful San Diego offense.

Anthony (San Diego)

If the Chargers were to lose to the Raiders on MNF, what would be the repercussions?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:11 PM)

Lots of Norv Turner jokes, and maybe a little newfound respect for the Raiders, but I doubt much else. Remember: This is the NFL, not college football. There are no Temples, no Idaho States. They use the phrase "Any Given Sunday" for a reason. Upsets happen.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:12 PM)

By the way, I hate to let you all know this, but this isn't the place to ask your technical questions about the MNF broadcast. I don't really know anything about that stuff...

Charles (Dayton, Ohio)

Do you see a return to glory for LT this year maybe. He says he is going to put up huge numbers and that he is motivated by what happened this offseason and everything

Aaron Schatz
  (6:16 PM)

After a down season, how many NFL players *don't* tell the media that they are motivated to prove everybody wrong? "Prove everybody wrong" seems to be the main raison d'etre behind the modern professional player's entire existence. There's no reason to believe that our expectations for LT should be different just because he says he's motivated. I do think he's going to put up good numbers, but not "huge," and I think it will be more due to the offense surrounding him than LT getting back the swerve of his great years. However, I don't think LT is going to collapse like most recent top backs (Shaun Alexander, for example). I think he's likely to have a nice late career as a league-average workhorse back, much like Emmitt Smith did.

Ross (Vegas)

Which Raider back carries most of the load tonight?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:17 PM)

None. It looks like they're going to go with Darren McFadden as the starter, but I'm sure that carries are going to get reasonably split up. Also, unless something unexpected happens, San Diego should be safely ahead in the second half and the Raiders will need to throw to try to catch up.

George (NY)

Jets vs. Texans. Last play of the half, Keller catches a pass in Texans territory as time expires. But a Texan gets called for taunting. Yet, the half was NOT extended and NO yards were assessed at the beginning of the second half! How can the rules allow unsportsmanlike conduct to go unpunished?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:19 PM)

The penalty was declined. It's not a penalty that gives the offense an untimed down, so the yardage would have been meaningless -- there was no next play.

Daryl (San Diego, CA)

Assuming the Chargers have no problem with the Raiders tonight, where do you see them sitting after week 4? And how do you have them finishing the regular season?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:21 PM)

The Chargers should be 4-0 or 3-1 after four weeks. I would say that there's a good chance they lose to Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh (Week 4), and a small chance they lose at home to Baltimore, but I doubt they would lose both. The Football Outsiders statistical projections have the Chargers as the best team of the regular season and I see no subjective reason to disagree with the projections. I think they're going to go 13-3 or 14-2. The problem is in January. I'm sorry, I simply cannot trust a team with Norv Turner as head coach to win three straight games against the best teams (and the best coaches) in the NFL. Does anyone really think Turner could outcoach, say, Bill Belichick, Norv Turner, and Tom Coughlin in succession?

Jeff Garcia (Philly)

Could I be the starter next week, or did Philly sign me for a week until Vick is back? AJ Feeley getting looked at elsewhere? I was surprised they didn't just resign him.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:23 PM)

Hey, Freckle Boy. A.J. Feeley made the choice to sign with Carolina rather than Philadelphia -- probably because the chances that he could take over for Jake Delhomme long-term are a lot better than the chances that he could take over for Donovan McNabb long-term. As for Garcia vs. Vick, I'm guessing Garcia starts next week with Kolb on the bench and Vick still suspended. After that... I know Vick gets all this media hype, but Garcia has a better record as a quarterback and has actually PLAYED the last two seasons. If the choice was Garcia vs. Vick over who would start with McNabb hurt, I think that's no contest. It's you all the way, Freckle Boy.

Enrique Hernandez jr (Texas)

What if Dallas has to punt in their New "Palace" stadium, the ball hits the scoreboard (dead ball, do over) and the next play is a punt return for a touchdown for the visiting team? What then?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:24 PM)

Jerry Jones will just cry, cry, cry.

Jason Riggs (Encinitas, CA)

Do you think the Chargers will try anything new in their playbook against the Raiders (such as the Wildcat) or just keep it pretty straight ahead and save their hand for a more formidable foe down the line?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:28 PM)

Oh, I don't see the Raiders as a defense where you need to break out the wacky stuff to gain yardage on the ground. Richard Seymour might improve their run defense, but he doesn't know the scheme yet, and he's just one player. As the Giants proved against the Redskins and Albert Haynesworth, you *can* take a great run-stuffer out with a double team. I'm also not sure why so many people think the Chargers plan on breaking out the Wildcat. Have they been practicing it all the time? Do they have a former college quarterback on the roster that I don't know about?

Camron Hall (Alexander, North Carolina)

What do you think the biggest concern for the patriots is tonight as they face buffalo

Aaron Schatz
  (6:29 PM)

Getting caught in traffic on Route 1 after the game. No, seriously, it's injuries. Otherwise, unless Buffalo comes out with some really unexpected and smart game planning OR there are a lot of bad bounces for the Patriots, this should be a safe win.

Steven (Stillwater)

Hey Aaron, is it safe to already say that the Raiders have the potential to be this years Lions and tie the 0-16 mark?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:31 PM)

Well, gee, at this point there are 18 teams with that potential. Seriously, the Raiders don't look good but there's no reason right now to believe that they are one of the four or five worst teams in recent NFL history like the Lions were. This is a team that has some excellent players -- Asomugha, McFadden, Zach Miller -- and just added a big-time defensive lineman with no IMMEDIATE cost. I would say the average expectation would be 6-10, not 0-16.

Xander (Philly)

Will Belicheck run up the score to tweak T.O.?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:32 PM)

Why on earth would Bill Belichick give a flying fishstick about T.O.?

STEVE (LAKEPORT,CA)

Do you think Jon Gruden would coach the Raiders again if offered the job?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:34 PM)

To answer that question, you would need to look under "D" on the Obituaries page of the San Francisco Chronicle.

bob (portland, oregon)

can we ask questions not directly related to MNF? Like, would you drop A.Gonzalez?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:37 PM)

Yes, you can ask questions not related to MNF. Would I drop Anthony Gonzalez? It depends who else I owned in that league, and who was on the waiver wire. As it happens, I do own Anthony Gonzalez in the Football Outsiders staff league, but I was playing Hines Ward as a Flex so I can move Ward to WR and sit Gonzalez for a few weeks. He should be back before midseason, so don't drop him unless you definitely have to because there's no other way to get a replacement for the next month.

Patrick (Fort Collins, CO)

Is Wes Welker playing tonight?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:38 PM)

He is playing -- the inactives are out and Welker is not on the list. The biggest-name inactives are probably cornerbacks Terrence Wheatley (New England) and Drayton Florence (Buffalo).

Roger Federer (NY)

I could be down 2-1 in a couple of minutes, why should anyone tune into MNF? Both games should be blowouts.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:40 PM)

Roger, I don't want to be a jerk, but *preseason* football gets better ratings than tennis. What can I say, man, this is America. We love football.

bob (portland, oregon)

Thanks for answering...so, I have Roddy White, Braylon, Anquan, and Cotchery (and Gonzalez)....and we start 3 WR's - change your answer?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:42 PM)

That's an excellent group of wide receivers for a league that starts three. I'm pretty sure you would be able to rotate Braylon Edwards and Jericho Cotchery until Gonzalez returns. If you are really lucky, he'll come back before Week 7, because the Colts go through a stretch where they play the Rams, 49ers, and Texans (are you slobbering yet?) followed by the Patriots -- who should have a much better defense than those other teams but have a habit of giving up big games to number-two receivers.

Albert (Florida)

Is Randy Moss going to thrive with Brady back behind center?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:43 PM)

Signs point to "yes."

Aaron Schatz
  (6:43 PM)

By the way, other readers should feel free to send in fantasy questions when I'm here. I'm no Matthew Berry, but I can hold my own!

Jason Campbell (Snyder's Doghouse)

Will I bounce back next week vs. STL or should I be benched for Flacco @ SD?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:46 PM)

I appreciate that Joe Flacco had such a huge game, but did any of us go into this season thinking "Wow, that Kansas City defense is really good"? Remember, this is the team that set the all-time record for fewest sacks in a season last year. San Diego is going to be a MUCH harder test. At the same time, the Giants are a great defense and the Rams have awful cornerbacks. (Their safeties are reasonable, esp. Atogwe.) Anyway, the answer is that Jason Campbell is a pretty good bet to bounce back next week, and the Ravens are likely to revert to last year's run-first philosophy against the Chargers.

Sean (Philly)

Both Mark Clayton and Michael Clayton had good days yesterday. Should I drop Hixon for one of them?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:48 PM)

Beware of National Jump to Conclusions Week. I would also beware the Giants' jobshare at wide receiver, but I would beware National Jump to Conclusions Week more -- and hold on to Hixon a little longer.Seriously, if anyone is thinking of making a rash move after Week 1, can I just recite the words "Frisman Jackson"? How about "Donte Rosario"?

Clay (Charlotte)

My starting RB are S. Jackson and B. Jacobs. Hightower on my bench scored more than both combined. Hang on to them or start looking elsewhere?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:49 PM)

Please tell me you are joking.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:49 PM)

Sorry, that seems to have run early. That should go here... "Please tell me you are joking."

Pierre Thomas (Nawlins)

Did (or will) I lose my job to Mike Bell?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:52 PM)

Golly, I hope not. That would be some serious overreaction to one reasonable game against a defense that -- no disrespect to my man Jim Schwartz -- isn't scaring anyone. There's a reason Mike Bell couldn't make the Broncos or the Texans over the last couple seasons. Pierre Thomas is a better player right now, and he has more potential for growth.

Steve Slaton (Houston)

Will I bounce back @ TEN or should I be benched in favor of C.Benson @ GB, Pierre Thomas @ PHI or Donald Brown on MNF @ MIA?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:54 PM)

Oh man, that is NOT a good choice. I guess I would stay with Slaton just because he's got the best historical track record and is likely to get the most playing time. If the Packers defense we saw last night is for real, then you've got three bad matchups and then a guy who is clearly right now the number two back on his team (Brown).

Jason (Michigan)

How will F. Jackson do tonight

Aaron Schatz
  (6:55 PM)

Frisman Jackson always plays well in Week 1. I'm sorry, did you mean someone else? No, seriously, I think Jackson should have reasonable numbers. The Patriots' run defense isn't particularly good or bad, just average.

Ryan (Seattle)

Do you start Gates or Welker tonight (0.5 PPR)?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:56 PM)

Oh, tough one. I guess Gates, because there is less risk involved.

Ryan L (Illinois)

Without TO yesterday, Romo put up a career day yardage wise. Could this offenese be better now with the mismatches caused and give Romo the ability to read a defense and get it to the open man instead of someone yelling at him to give him the ball.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:58 PM)

That's possible. It's also possible that this is just one game, and Tampa Bay happens to be rebuilding, and their safety who normally provides deep help (Tanard Jackson) was suspended for this game.

Joe (Seattle)

If (when) the Seahawks beat the 49ers next week in the bay, are they in prime position to regain the NFC west title again this year?

Aaron Schatz
  (6:59 PM)

Seattle was already FO's pick to win the NFC West and I see no reason to change our minds after one week. Health is a very good thing.

Aaron Schatz
  (6:59 PM)

OK, y'all, I'm getting out of here. Bill Simmons is up next, and I hope he can match my output of 2 Frisman Jackson references per hour.

Buzzmaster
  (8:06 PM)

Bill Simmons will be chatting during the Patriots game. Go here to chat with him - http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/28350/page-2-bill-simmons. We will be back here during the late game to chat during the Raiders-Chargers!

Buzzmaster
  (10:20 PM)

Hey everyone! Welcome to the second game of the MNF doubleheader!

Buzzmaster
  (10:21 PM)

If the first game tells us anything, it's that anything can happen.

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

I think the Raiders will win this. Just a hunch.

Buzzmaster
  (10:26 PM)

What are your guys' predictions for this game?

Doug (Indy)

What an ending to a game!! I think this one goes more like everyone expects. Chargers win big.

Buzzmaster
  (10:27 PM)

Ouch. INT already!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

Horrible throw. I'm slowly reneging on my prediction.

Buzzmaster
  (10:31 PM)

Any fantasy owners need Rivers to have a big game? I know I do.

Trevor (Texas)

Man Buzz, you are a hard working dude. I just got home from school after a long day of work, and yet you are still running the chat.

Buzzmaster
  (10:37 PM)

Trevor, what can I say. I love to chat!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

Slow chat huh Buzz?

Buzzmaster
  (10:39 PM)

I think people are tuckered out from Game 1 of MNF. Once they get there second wind, they'll be back!

Trevor (Texas)

McFadden is looking good so far.

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

This raider run game is looking impressive.

Buzzmaster
  (10:40 PM)

How excited are Raiders fans right now -- They're near the goal!

Buzzmaster
  (10:40 PM)

WOW TD!!!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

TD raiders, wow

Buzzmaster
  (10:41 PM)

Brendan and I are on the same page.

Jake (State College, PA)

Who honestly expected this drive from the raiders? I'm impressed.

Buzzmaster
  (10:41 PM)

More shocking: Raiders actually driving down the field for a TD or Buffalo leading NE into the fourth?

Joe (Oakland, CA)

looking good raiders!

Patrick ( Louisville )

Bush looks healthy. McFadden looked good too. What the?

Ditzzo (Texas)

Man, I have SD as my survivor pick this week and LT as my main fantasy starter. Double whammy so far.

Marcus (Hermiston,OR)

Thats the raiders we like to see!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

That is one crowd I would be scared of jumping into.

Joe (Oakland, CA)

awww yea!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

The second wind! Good call Buxz.

Trevor (Texas)

I'm going with the Raiders actually driving down field. I just feel the Patriots have lost a lot talent, and think people are hyping them up a little too much.

Buzzmaster
  (10:44 PM)

LT fantasy owners = hate their lives.

Jack (Oakland, CA)

im sitting in my car outside the stadium and its rocking!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

Buffalo collapsing was a sad, but very Bill-like, shock.

Ben Leiss (Hartford, CT)

will the patriots get 10 wins like many think?

Buzzmaster
  (10:48 PM)

Seymour!

George (Houston)

Any team that has Tom Brady has a pretty good chance at winning. What's with all the doubters in the Patriots?

Jack (Oakland, CA)

raiders all time history: score and then fall apart.

Buzzmaster
  (10:50 PM)

FUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Buzzmaster
  (10:50 PM)

Are things actually going the Raiders way? I'm confused.

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

LT fantasy owners are hating it right now.

Patrick ( Louisville )

This is good stuff, and its entertaining. I forgot how nice MNF was.

Justin (Ohio)

And cue the fumble.

Trevor (Texas)

LT=Done...loved the guy in his prime, but he's just a very good backup now.

Justin (Ohio)

Drew Brees basically won my ffl game by himself yesterday. Still have LT tonight. Please no injuries.

George (Houston)

So does LT still think he's better than Adrian Peterson?

Doug (Indy)

Don't take too much from any team after week 1. Pats will be fine.

seth (MA)

go raiders!!!

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

Drew Brees supported my team... but I started 2 TEs.... Tony G and ... ugh, Greg Olson. Lost by 2 points. What was I thinking!

Dave W. (Garfield,NJ)

I am strong at RB. I am weak at WR. I have Roddy, Henry, AGonzalez. I just picked up Crayton. Should I pick up Laurent Robinson? And should I worry?

Buzzmaster
  (10:54 PM)

Brendan that's brutal! I had the Eagles D until 20 mins before Week 1 started -- and then put them on my bench. I want to cry just thinking about it.

Trevor (Texas)

Anybody on Earth who thinks they are a better RB than Adrian Peterson needs to be admitted into an insane asylum. He has a chance to be the greatest RB ever, and that pains me to say since he went to OU.

Patrick ( Louisville )

Wow. 2 TE, that is stranger than the Raiders looking solid.

Buzzmaster
  (10:55 PM)

Let's not get ahead of ourself, Patrick.

George (Houston)

A guy in my league traded Brees and Peterson before the week began what do you think he's thinking

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

I heard so many good things about Cutler to Olson...

Trevor (Texas)

I still think Cutler has a solid year. Bad game, but hopefully he gets in sync with his WRs.

Justin (Ohio)

George, are you in a four team league?

Mike (Miami)

Buzz, getting ready to make a grocery store ruun, what kind of pop-tarts should I get?

Buzzmaster
  (11:00 PM)

Since it's throwback night, perhaps some throwback pop-tarts?

George (Houston)

No its a ten team league people just weren't picking Brees

Patrick ( Louisville )

Throwback? Unfrosted brown sugar cinnamon

Patrick ( Louisville )

Brees went 5th overall in our 10 team league. QB gets 6pts for a TD though.

Trevor (Texas)

If the Raiders start winning, do you think they'll actually play on a real football field? I'm sick of the baseball diamond in the middle of the field.

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

Jamarcus can really sling that ball around.

Buzzmaster
  (11:04 PM)

Buffalo almost beating NE? Raiders driving down the field? Have these been the strangest MNF games or what??

Justin (Ohio)

FUMBLE

Buzzmaster
  (11:04 PM)

AND the Raiders fumble. We're back to normal.

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

DMC fumbled. ouch. Maybe this is where the Raiders turn back into the raiders?

Patrick ( Louisville )

McFadden just pulled a Buffalo

Pat (Columbia, SC)

way to jinx it Buzz

Buzzmaster
  (11:05 PM)

Don't tell the "Black Hole"

Trevor (Texas)

Pretty strange. I may just have to stay up to see if the Raiders are going to actually play football this year.

George (Houston)

Who put butter on the football?

Doug (Indy)

Maybe this is the week of spectacular losses. Bengals, Bills, look out Raiders.

Buzzmaster
  (11:07 PM)

Interesting point, Doug.

George (Houston)

And LT is safe at 2nd base

miles (alaska)

will the raiders ever get a good passing game?

Buzzmaster
  (11:09 PM)

Welcome to the chat, Alaska! I think Zach Miller (fantasy sleeper) at TE is a huge help.

Trevor (Texas)

I think Seymour is going to have an insane year. I really think he is out to prove something now. He wants to stick it to the Patriots and Belichick. He's going to be all over the field this year, great pick up by the Raiders.

Buzzmaster
  (11:11 PM)

LT fantasy owners sweating...

Buzzmaster
  (11:11 PM)

AND they can let out a huge sigh of relief.

Trevor (Texas)

LT owners breath easy now.

Buzzmaster
  (11:14 PM)

Halftime predictions?

Trevor (Texas)

I'm saying 10-7 San Diego at half.

brent (florida)

17/7 bolts

George (Houston)

17-14 bolts

Kevin (Oklahoma)

10-7 Raiders

Jeremy (San Diego)

14-7 Raiders

brent (florida)

i smell a turn over

phino (stockton, ca)

17 10 chargers

Buzzmaster
  (11:22 PM)

Wow even though they have to punt, pretty good half for the Raiders. I mean, they have more yards than the Chargers! Who would have called that one?

justin (cincinnati,oh)

why are the refs wearing red?

Buzzmaster
  (11:23 PM)

I think it's due to throwback night?

Brian (Iowa)

14-10 Oakland at the half

Dusty (Dallas)

7/7at half; 21/10 Raiders final

Josh (New Hampshire (Pats 1-0))

Shane lechler is a really talented punter

Pat (Columbia, SC)

I don't think I've been this pumped for a Raiders season after a half since 2002.

Buzzmaster
  (11:28 PM)

And there it is! A WR reception! Congrats Raiders fans *throws confetti*

Josh (New Hampshire)

I was kind of expecting I would be in bed by now but then the raiders showed up. Weird

Buzzmaster
  (11:30 PM)

Very weird.

Mark (Sydney, Australia)

I took the day off work today (Tuesday) to watch my beloved Raiders ....

Buzzmaster
  (11:32 PM)

RAIDERS!!!

Al Davis (LaLaLand)

I always knew what I was doing!

chris (las vegas)

all those haters doubting the NATION lets go silver and black!

Josh (New Hampshire)

Zach Miller is a beast

Pat (Columbia, SC)

Wow. Another Completed Pass. Thank the lord.

Jon (Ohio)

Lets not get too overconfident that'll just lead to bad karma

Mark (Sydney, Australia)

I'm most impressed with the OL...few penalties and no sacks given up. I'm extremely happy so far.

chris (las vegas)

zach miller IS a beast! he is really coming along nicely in the league

Buzzmaster
  (11:36 PM)

TOUCHDOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Pat (Columbia, SC)

TOUCHDOWN!

Jeremy (San Diego)

Called it...

Jon (Ohio)

I WANT HIS JERSEY NOW!

CHRIS (LAS VEGAS LAS VEGAS)

RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Josh (New Hampshire)

My prediction for halftime is Raiders 14 chargers 7

Buzzmaster
  (11:40 PM)

Oh no ...

George (Houston)

Burn!!!!!

Dan (Bakersfield)

YESS! PASS INCOMPLETE!

Rhonda (San Diego)

GO CHARGERS!!!

George (Houston)

Bad call

Tyler (San Diego)

Bad bad call. Thank you ref, but that was wrong

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Oakland got robbed. Horrible call by the refs. I agree with Steve Young. Once he got two feet down in the end zone then that should be the end of the play.

Brian (Houston)

That is hands down the worst call of the weekend. No way that was not a TD

Eldon (Berkeley)

That was the most ridiculous call ever.

alex (virginia)

are you serious? maybe those new uniforms affected the refs. that was a TD

Dan (Bakersfield)

Here's to hoping the Bolts step up their game. Let's GO!!!

Eldon (Berkeley)

I agree, the catch was made by having possession with BOTH feet down on the ground in the endzone.

Don (Texas)

So, having possession/ control of the ball and two feet down in bounds/ in the end zone isn't good enough now?

Pat (Columbia, SC)

LT hasn't played since the TD? Can you investigate Buzz?

Buzzmaster
  (11:45 PM)

As a fantasy owner of Jackson and Rivers, you might want to ask someone else...

miles (alaska)

that can reall hurt the momentum of the raiders after that tremendous drive by jemarcus russell

Jon (Ohio)

What hurts is that SD gets the ball back at half.

Alex (Dallas)

Where is LT??

Dan (Bakersfield)

All tied up. Pretty good game, wouldn't you guys say?

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

That's why we got Seymour. Nice sack!

Jon (Ohio)

I say it should be 14-10

Buzzmaster
  (11:50 PM)

Buzz = grabbing some food at halftime. BRB

Buzzmaster
  (12:01 AM)

And we're back!

Dylan (Wisconsin)

Raiders will excell this season

Mike (Boston)

Will you please find out where LT is.......?

Dan (Bakersfield)

THERE's L.T.

Jeff (Las Vegas)

I would have to agree with you Dylan they are looking good tonight. The Raiders that is.

Ken (Illinois)

I am not by any means a raiders fan but that TD overturned is the worst call I have ever seen . Since when is a guy catching the ball and getting both feet down with control of the ball in the end zone not a catch. That is bad that they can't get the call right with replay.

Julio (Los Angeles)

Cmon passs the ball to Antonio Gates i need those fantasy points, its been a rough rough week

Buzzmaster
  (12:05 AM)

It's been a pretty strange Week 1 for fantasy football owners (unless you have Brees, or AP)

Jon (Ohio)

Bad calls against The Raiders happen i'm over it

Jon (Ohio)

The Guy in my league with Brees lost

Bryce (wisconsin)

I have Drew Brees on my fantasy team and theres a good chance I will still lose this game, only 9 points total from my 3 WR's and 1 TE :(

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

San Diego is getting most of the penalties tonight.

Nick C. (Rochester, MA)

As a Patriots fan who was reminded of old times when the team didn't do very well and who was shocked to watch the Raiders run all over San Deigo early, I can't help but think that throwback uniforms help bring back old Raider pride. Thoughts?

Buzzmaster
  (12:12 AM)

WOW!!! PICK!

Buzzmaster
  (12:13 AM)

Agreed Nick, Raiders should never take these jerseys off.

alex (virginia)

Oakland baby! and yes, throw backs forever!!!!

Buzzmaster
  (12:14 AM)

A throwback year is just what Raider Nation needs.

Craig G. (Fairfield, CA)

who has the best AFL throwbacks? The Jets(Titans)?

Troy R (Oakland,CA)

Interception.YEs

Julio (Los Angeles)

Any thoughts on the chargers offense today? seems a lot more lackluster then usual, just hope this is just one of those usual bad starts to the season

Art (Clifton Park, NY)

Sign Seymore to an extension now! - Every raider needs to rework their contract to make this happen - for the good of the team

alex (virginia)

Craig G....the Raiders of course....

Troy R (Oakland,CA)

RAiders have the best

miles (alaska)

missed oppourtunity

VJ (Manchvegas)

In terms of whose throwback is better than their regular uni...Raiders hands down

Steve (Los Angeles, Ca)

Raiders haven't been running like they were in the first half

miles (alaska)

the throwbcks are better because of the rich but distant winning history of the raiders

Pat (Columbia, SC)

The Raiders offense hasn't gotten over the td called back yet.

Ken (Richmond, VA)

San Diego has given up on the run and it looks like Oakland knows it.

Pat (Columbia, SC)

Thats the second injured lineman for San Diego

Brett (Tulsa,OK)

Which is more suprising, Russell having more yards than rivers, or mcfadden and bush out-gaining lt and sproles?

Buzzmaster
  (12:24 AM)

I'd say Russell having more yards than Rivers. Everyone else?

miles (alaska)

russell is much more suprising

alex (virginia)

Yes. Russell having more yards.

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

Russell by far.

Bryce (wisconsin)

Definitely Russel

miles (alaska)

once again the raiders defense stands

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Russell over Rivers is more surprising because San Diego isn't even trying to run the ball any more.

Steve (Los Angeles, Ca)

Raiders defense looks good; Russell having more yards than Rivers is truly surprising

miles (alaska)

lets hope the raiders offense gives their defense a breather

Julio (Los Angeles)

russel having more yards, as good as LT is he is getting old and sproles can't out rush a combination of bush and mcfadden biggest shock though is san diego only has 130 yards tonight a little over half of what the average was last year

alex (virginia)

Russell, Russell, Russell. You have to better than that man.

Chris (Chico Ca)

Best Looking Raiders defense ive seen in years

miles (alaska)

the raiders need a spark to their offense something like a screen to mcfadden

Brett (Tulsa,OK)

Even if they lose, the Raiders are showing the rest of the division they won't be an automatic W.

Buzzmaster
  (12:34 AM)

This is shocking!

Buzzmaster
  (12:34 AM)

Raiders' D is feelin' it!

alex (virginia)

The Raiders are the more disciplined team for once. Chargers are committing a lot of penalties tonight.

Steve (Los Angeles, Ca)

Raiders need to re-establish the run; they can't depend on Russells arm

Mat (Minneapolis)

Hm. Bush almost has as many yards as LT and Sproles combined...and as many TDs too

alex (virginia)

ha ha. Get louder Oakland. Their O-Line is crumbling.

Buzzmaster
  (12:38 AM)

On a scale of 1-10 how unexpected has this game been?

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Someone tell San Diego that the preseason is over and that the regular season has started because the Chargers look like they're still in preseason mode.

Julio (Los Angeles)

10 definetly, chargers offense being terrible, raiders defense being grate didnt think this would happen at all

Mat (Minneapolis)

Somewhere between Michigan over ND and Houston over Oklahoma State unexpected. Maybe a 7.5

Brett (Tulsa,OK)

I'd say 9 or 10, mainly because everyone expected San Diego to rout all of their divional opponents

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Seriously Buzz, it's a 4 just because San Diego has a history of poor play early in the season. The past two years under Norv they've started the season poorly so I can't say that this is really that surprising.

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

It's got to be a 10.

miles (alaska)

its been an 8.5 because i expected the good running game but not the great defense from oakland man seymour does make a difference

Derek (Colorado)

Bronco fan here. Just wanted to say it's good to see some decent Raider football. They are playing with some heart tonight; giving credit where credit is due.

Buzzmaster
  (12:43 AM)

*watching my fantasy season crumble*

Marc (San Diego)

Where are the screen passes to Sproles?Anyone?

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

how great would a tie game be????????????

miles (alaska)

i know what defense i'm picking up from free agency in my league

alex (virginia)

Come on Offense. Repay the Raiders defense's hard work with some points. They deserve the rest. No more 3 and outs.

Marc (San Diego)

Rivers started the game 11 of 14. He's 3 of 10 since then. SD needs to re-establish the run too...

Troy (Oakland,CA)

Great throw

Julio (Los Angeles)

your not the only one Buzz, i got a combined 12 points from Antonio Bryant, Roddy White and Dwayne Bowe. I got more points from Julius Jones by himself..... should not have benched him

alex (virginia)

Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaach!!!....Miller time Baby!

Troy (Oakland,CA)

THat was a great Reverse

Mat (Minneapolis)

Zach Miller: More receiving yards in week 1 than: Calvin Johnson, Chad Ochocinco, Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald

Ken (Richmond, VA)

It's not pretty but Oakland is getting the job done. The question is, how many games can they win playing ugly?

Pat (Columbia, SC)

nice effort by russell on the reverse.

Marc (San Diego)

I'm putting all my hopes on SD being a spectacular 4th-quarter team. They're going to need it, given their effort thus far.

Kevin (SF, CA)

Two upsets wins for bay area teams would awesome way to start the season. Go Raiders!

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

Last quarter....Come on San Diego...

miles (alaska)

THANK YOU GOD THE OAKLAND RAIDERS ARE PUTTING TOGETHER A DRIVE!!

Reagan (Texas)

Why are they keeping LT on the sidelines? It doesn't make since to have someone that good just standing there.

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

It's not seven, but it was a drive for points.

alex (virginia)

Man just 3 points. But with the way the D is playing, it may be enough.

Buzzmaster
  (12:55 AM)

Raiders 13 mins away from being 1-0 ... wow. Example 5364793843 of why preseason does not matter.

alex (virginia)

LT has been shut down all night, that's why he's on the sidelines.

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

Awesome insight Buzz

Buzzmaster
  (12:57 AM)

I do what I can, Jeff, I do what I can.

alex (virginia)

That's true. A few years back the Raiders were 4-1 in the pre-season, and tanked in the regular season.

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

Raider D is back baby!

Jake (UF)

Raider D is looking NICE!

Marc (San Diego)

LT quietly averaging over 5 yards per carry. Give it to him more, please!

Mark (Sydney, Australia)

Raiders seriously need to improve the red zone play....we need to put these guys away now

Frank (Roseland, NJ)

This has been a great game for me as a Raiders fan. Tom Cable is doing a great job.

Gift of Gab (Charlotte)

that's true buzz, but it was pretty predictive of the panthers in week one

Jake (UF)

Just wehn i open my mouth... D falls for a couple plays.

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

Yes! That's the Gates we know.

Marc (San Diego)

There it is! Establish the run, then pass up the middle. That's 2006 Chargers football.

TJ (Binghamton,NY)

Very pleased with the raiders D. I hope this keeps up

Buzzmaster
  (1:01 AM)

Is the Raiders Defense THIS GOOD? Or is the Chargers Offense THIS BAD?

Buzzmaster
  (1:02 AM)

*apologizes for jinxing the Raiders*

Jake (UF)

The hits are AMAZING tonight!

miles (alaska)

lets go raider D

Jake (UF)

yeah thanks Buzz...

Buzzmaster
  (1:03 AM)

TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

TOUUUUUUUCHDOOOOWN.

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

That is a very good point, Buzz. Lol.

Troy (Oakland,CA)

OMG! Keep it together Oakland

Julio (Los Angeles)

Finally!!! Lets go Chargers

Pat (Columbia, SC)

i dont know. the refs might decide he didnt have possesion....

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

Why wont either team throw a pass longer than 15 yards?

alex (virginia)

It's not over yet, buzz.

Buzzmaster
  (1:05 AM)

What a game!

Ken (Richmond, VA)

I guess it's time to see if JaMarcus Russell has finally become an NFL QB or not.

Buzzmaster
  (1:06 AM)

If only chats could have sound. I would definitely put ominous music behind Ken's comment.

Adam (Ireland)

Remeber how Oakland should have 4 more points? The game sure would be different.

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

Jeez...thanks Buzz...your jinx screwed up my tie

Julio (Los Angeles)

Anyone else think that the Chargers are probably going to screw up on defense and Raiders are going to get at least a field goal?

Mark (Sydney, Australia)

I don't think anyone will forget those 4 points!!!!

Marc (San Diego)

Not me, Julio. For whatever reason, the Raiders are still passing on 1st down. Here's hoping for a 3-and-out...

Mat (Minneapolis)

Darrius Heyward-Bey scores the game-winning touchdown and Michael Mitchell will seal the game with an INT. Book it

Adam (Ireland)

The amount of WR drops by Oakland doesn't make Russell look any better.

Buzzmaster
  (1:11 AM)

This is not good.

Marc (San Diego)

What's happening, Buzz??! I'm following the gamecast and don't have a TV. Help!

Buzzmaster
  (1:13 AM)

Jamarcus Russell is injured. Garcia is in Philly. Gradkowski is in.

alex (virginia)

where is Jeff Garcia. Someone call him in Philly and tell him to get to Oakland ASAP.

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

Such a crazy yet great game. Wouldn't you say?

John (Los Angeles)

This could be the best thing that's happened to the Raiders all game. I have more faith in Gradkowski or Frye.

Pat (Columbia, SC)

Russell is putting his helmet back on...

Tom (Albuquerque, NM)

from what i have seen they are both better qb's than russell

Mat (Minneapolis)

GRADKOWSKI? Somebody actually took on the Browns' 5th-string quarterback from '08?

Marc (San Diego)

Oh, no. No, Russel is their best shot to win. I hate to see anyone get injured...

Julio (Los Angeles)

got to agree with Marc, don't want to see the Raiders win but its always sad when a player gets hurt

alex (virginia)

Yes. Thank you Ref. I still want our 4 points back though.

alex (virginia)

Man. This is the Oakland team I'm used to. Yellow flags everywhere. Come on.

Josh (Grants Pass, Oregon)

As a Raider fan I'm usually disappointed much earlier in the game. It's been awhile since I was nervous at the end of the game

Mat (Minneapolis)

I'm still waiting for something characteristically disastrous to happen to Oakland, like Al Davis thinking this is the AFL and ordering a drop-kick once Oakland's drive stalls...

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

I really loved Jamarcus Russel at LSU but i dont think he is a pro qb

Travis (South Dakota)

Are the Raiders able to throw the ball further than 3 yards down field?

Buzzmaster
  (1:20 AM)

WOW HUGE DROP!

Ryan (Portland)

The dirt strikes again.

Mark (Sydney, Australia)

Even when JMR makes a nice throw the WR's let him down

Buzzmaster
  (1:22 AM)

NO WAY!!!!!!!!

Bozo (Pasco, WA)

OHHHHH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken (Richmond, VA)

How do you give up that play on 4th and 15 if you're San Diego?

Ryan (Portland)

Wow. Chargers deserve to lose this game.

mike (philly)

wow how do you let that happen

michael (Alameda)

well at least jamarcus can do the thing he supposed to be good at

Julio (Los Angeles)

wow, i so called it. Charger's defence makes me want to cry sometimes

Brian (Houston)

He lost possession when he threw it into the stands. Should be reviewed

Adam (Ireland)

All I have to say is that, regardless of what happens, the Raiders will move up the power rankings. Haha

Mat (Minneapolis)

You realize, with the four extra points, Oakland would have punted that ball away and given SD a very good chance to win this game...

Pat (Columbia, SC)

They are going wild on the Oakland sideline. Absolutely wild.

Buzzmaster
  (1:27 AM)

I would just like to keep everyone updated on my fantasy status: Need 7 points, have Rivers and Jackson ... I feel sick.

JJ (Ohio)

With Phillip Rivers, SD still is in this game

michael (Alameda)

time for the d-line to get some pressure on rivers

Tom (Albuquerque, NM)

That was absolutely magnificent!!! Its about time that the raiders are actually doing something.

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Buzz I just need two points and I have LT and Gates.

alex (virginia)

Welcome to Oakland Murphy. We are happy to have you. Now let's end this game.

Jeff (Wapakoneta oh)

Even Buzz could have made that pass

Buzzmaster
  (1:28 AM)

It's true, Jeff.

mike (philly)

Need 3 and have LT!!

Tom (River North)

Glad that both games turned out to be good instead of the duds people were predicting. And I need Antonio Gates to get a TD Buzz. That would change my record from 1-2 to 2-1.

Buzzmaster
  (1:30 AM)

Tom -- i've never been so nervous in my life.

Julio (Los Angeles)

Buzz, knowing the way Chargers have played today you think they can tie or win the game?

Buzzmaster
  (1:31 AM)

I do.

Michael (Alameda)

typical raider football

derak (Georgia)

I see it now a SD field goal .........................bummer

Buzzmaster
  (1:31 AM)

Don't say such things!

Matt (St. Louis)

just let those raiders win theyve played too good

Ryan (Portland)

Prevent D is the worst, why does any team use it?

Marc (San Diego)

Win it here. Plenty of time to get this in the end zone. The last thing we need is an overtime; neither defense can come up with a stop...

Tom (River North)

We want Gates!

miles (alaska)

its gonna be a nail biter

Brendan (Louisville, KY)

dang

Julio (Los Angeles)

TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!

Dan (Bakersfield, CA)

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCHDOWN.

Ryan (Jacksonville)

What a ball game!

Will (Denver)

YES!

Buzzmaster
  (1:36 AM)

This one is a tough loss.

Marc (San Diego)

WOOHOOO!!!!!

Pat (Columbia, SC)

and now the 4 points come back into play...

Matt (St. Louis)

another 50 yd pass by russel...? lol

JJ (Ohio)

where's brandon stokely when you need him, oakland

Michael (Alameda)

it aint over buzz hahah

derak (Georgia)

unbelieveable!

Adam (Ireland)

I can't remember the last time Oakland won a close game. It seems like they lose 6 a year.

Buzzmaster
  (1:37 AM)

And, I lost this week by three points. How did the other fantasy owners do?

Brett (Tulsa,OK)

Raiders fans shouldn't be upset, they played a really good game and the D looks promising

mike (philly)

Lost by 3 also cuz of LT!!

Eric (Dallas, Tx)

I lost to Drew Brees - like everyone who went against him

Ken (Richmond, VA)

Buzz, in my Yahoo league, I lost 99.64-99.42

Buzzmaster
  (1:38 AM)

Ken that is just wrong!

Mat (Minneapolis)

Group of people who loved tonight's games: MNF schedulers. These games could have easily been 44-0, both of them

derak (Georgia)

won fantasy by two points McFaddens 2 receptions sealed it for me lol

Tom (River North)

Fractions have always been against me. Looks like they got Ken too.

Marc (San Diego)

Buzz and mike, there's still time for the Raiders to fumble and for LT to throw a TD pass to Gates, right? :D

Bryce (wisconsin)

Lost by 9, Bernard Berrian, TO, donald driver, and Visanthe Shaincoe all combined for 9 points. THats what killed me. i HAD Drew Brees.

BroncoBob (Boise Idaho)

V. Jackson and LT sealed my victory

Eric (Dallas, Tx)

Something about playing on Monday Night makes the games better

Buzzmaster
  (1:40 AM)

Everyone, great game and an even greater chat!

Buzzmaster
  (1:40 AM)

Buzz is out of here. Thanks for all your awesome comments!

Marc (San Diego)

Thanks Buzz!! Phew! GO BOLTS!
