Good morning, gang! Ready for an hour of fantasy chattage. Let's get started, shall we? Second cup of coffee in hand. Here we go...
Ignoring their value as handcuffs, which of these three #2 RBs do you most want on your roster for the rest of the year: L. Washington, D. Brown, or L. McCoy? Thanks.
I'd go with Leon. Just from the numerous ways he gets handed the ball, thrown the ball, returns kicks... more touches equals more opportunity for fantasy points.
AJ in a vacuum would you make this trade - Steven Jackson, Vincent Jackson
I would not panic after one game, but that STL offense does look scary bad right now. Still, I'm not dealing a starting RB for a starting WR because even in deeper leagues, there's something usable on the waiver wire at WR, and nil at RB.
AJ, do I start Flacco over Cutler this week or is Jay due for a bounce back game even against PIT?
I would. Cutler's not likely to throw all those picks (although if Troy were healthy, perhaps he would) but I'm definitely in the "Wacko for Flacco" camp.
Who will have a better game, Heath Millert against an Ulacher-less Bears DST, or Ben Watson looking to further redrem himself and simultaneously crush the upstart Rex Ryan-coached Jets.
I'd go with Miller. Watson had a nice Week 1, but I'm of the feeling Brady used Week 1 to reconnect with "old friends", and will branch out to Galloway and Baker a touch more in Week 2.
Good morning, A J. Randle EL .. one week fluke or potential sleeper considering matchups against Rams then Lions next two weeks?
I don't think he has season-long staying power, but he is certainly a matchups play. In my long-time keeper league, I picked him up - though I would have taken Britt or Stuckey if either had fallen to me in the waiver order.
At what point do you start worrying about the total offensive ineptitude of teams like Miami and the Texans?
They are different cases... with Miami, I worry right away - they had trouble deciding on a No. 2 WR and looked completely lost out there. That's worrisome. Houston simply faced a really good defense(IMO)
So you are a believer in Stuckey? Anyone else you like on the wire? Meachem?
I like what I saw - more so in Sanchez and Cotchery than Chansi - but that's a value hike for the Jets No. 2 big time. I don't really like Meachem or Devery, because Brees throws SO much, but never enough to any one of these "extra targets" to make me feel comfortable starting them.
Hey this is my first year playing fantasy and I'm having a blast. I'm soaking in a lot of advice at once but which is a better guild line; the projected points for the week or the expert average rankings?
There's no substitute from watching the games and going with your own gut. However, that is a skill that takes time to hone. I think the ESPN ranks and projected points both are pretty good in helping you see other points of view - but keep in mind, when it comes to the projected points, you need to look at it without the TDs (which are impossible to predict) to get a true feel for number of touches and possible success.
You like Stuckey or Britt over Coles?
For this season yes. I like Britt better in a keeper, but I don't think he necessarily gets a ton of PT if Nate Washington is healthy. Coles scares me - after all he did so poorly and Henry was barely on the field.
Their seems to be more production from the TE position than usual this season, would you trade an Antonio Gates for extra depth a RB or WR?
Absolutely. I was more than happy to wait in most of the drafts I did until very late and scoop up guys like Keller, Carlson and Shiancoe at TE. Gates is a great TE, but I don't need him as much as I need that RB depth.
having trouble with rbs this week pick two: pierre thomas, ray rice, jamal lewis, larry johnson
Forget Pierre - he's not getting a huge workload even if he plays. I'd go with Ray and Larry. Not even sure Jamal will be at full strength as his neck is hurt.
Whats the deal with L.T. is the ankle bad enough to sit out this week?
Definitely a concern... I think he'll end up playing, but I wouldn't count on starting him. For one, Sproles was more effective before the injury to LDT and for two, there's no telling if that ankle doesn't tighten up on him again mid-game.
Would you plug Randle El into a WR3 spot this week in place of DeSean Jackson, who will probably have Kolb at QB this week? Or is that getting too cute?
I don't think it's too cute - QB changes are far more impactful on a WR's performance than the opponent. The only thing to consider, though, is the much higher likelihood of D-Jax being used in Wildcat plays - a much larger number might be called with Kolb under center than Donovan. I think it's a coin toss... gut call come kickoff time.
It always amuses me that people want to blow up their team after the first week of play. Give it a chance people! Having said that I was offered LT for Fitzgerald. My WR's are strong but my RB's are pretty weak (Run-DMC, R. Rice and D. Ward). Would you do that deal?
Not straight up. You should be fine with DMC and Rice into bye weeks and there's no guarantee LT plays those weeks, what with his injury issue. I'd need a more reliable RB to part with Fitz.
AJ, injuries are taking a toll on my playoff team. Is Brian Tallet worth a look for next week against BAL
I'll throw in the MLB Q here... check out his progress after leaving yesterday's game. If he has any lingering issues, you may want to avoid him next time out - if its not pushed back a day or two.
Will Anthony Fasano be a top-10 TE by season's end?
I don't think so, at least not fantasy-wise. I mean (-3) in Week 1 isn't exactly helping yourself rise up the rankings.
Larry Johnson, Eddie Royal or Patrick Crayton as a flex this week?
I'm going with Larry. I don't think Crayton has near as much success versus the Giants and not sure Royal gets enough decent passes thrown his way.
I've got a guy in my league who neither accepts nor declines trades, he just lets it sit there until the 10 days are up and the trade is automatically declined. It ticks me off incredibly. am I right to be ticked off, or am i just impatient?
Then why do you even offer trades to him if you know he will do this? Shame on YOU.
You said TD's are impossible to predict. i agree they're hard, but don't we pay you guys to pour through red zone tendencies, predict how many points a team will score, and thus the odds their players will score, etc? Can't all that add up to a pretty educated guess as to who may find the end zone, rather than just saying it's impossible to predict?
1) I didn't get your check this week, Paul - must have gotten lost in the mail. 2) Certainly we know tendencies and that is reflected in the number of catches projected which is a functions of targetting trends. But for every Hines Ward fumble inside the 5, there's a fake field goal or a tackle eligible play that "steals" a scoring chance away from a fantasy player. The projections are an educated guess, but very fallible. Anyone think Brandon Stokley was going to score in Week 1, on apass not even thrown to him? You dig?
Slaton or Fred Jackson this week?
I still like Jackson, though I think he does slightly worse than last week, at least in terms of the passing game. Tennessee will crush Slaton.
Cmon, how many questions get sent your way from Nicaragua? Chester Taylor at Detroit starting over Roy E. Williams vs Giants. Crazy???
Not really. Minny gets a big lead early and AP sits... I can see Taylor getting 100 and a score. Now let's get all those other Central American countries to represent!
Will Favre throw more than 110 yrds this week or will he just hand the ball off every play?
Favre watches those tapes of Brees throwing for 6. I bet he doesn't stop throwing until he gets at least 3.
NOT C.A. - but the Caribbean...Any chance Leon Washington has a Fred "The Beetle" Jackson-like day against The Pats at home??? I'm intrigued...
I think he does.
I am number one on the waiver wire; I deciding not to use it this week, picking up no one. I am waiting for a major injury and then pick up a guy being forced into the starting role. Is this a good strategy?
Yes and no. On the one hand, you avoiding making a mistake of Frisman Jackson proportions. On the other hand, if you wait too long, someone might grab that "backup" a week early just on a gut call, and then you'll have missed out on improving your team in the meanwhile.
Drop Hester to stash Anthony Gonzales? Braylon is my WR3
I wouldn't. I have zero faith in Gonzalez. In fact, I just cut him in my long-time keeper league outright. I'm done with him. He's Chris Chambers all over again. Booo!
I swaer I am from Borneo...will BJ Upton bounce back next year or is what we see what we get????
I think it's what you see... I'd rather have Justin.
AJ, My backup QB has rib issues. Do you think Vick be the starter by week 5 if Donovan can't go?
Vick will not be a starter this season. It's just not going to happen. Garcia will take over this week if Kolb stumbles (I'm assuming Donovan sits) and he's the man if McNabb misses action. Vick's not ready for more than token action.
Why is Eli Manning consistently rated so low??? What is your opinion on his value
Because he plays for a run-first team. Even when he goes 16-20, he rarely will top 200 yards in the Giants' system. Manningham's performance certainly gives hope to stretching the field a bit, but Eli's not asked to do much more than not throw INTs.
I'm about to send a trade b/c my only two quarterbacks are Garrard Edwards: I'm proposing Colston Garrard for B.Marshall Flacco in return. Would you do this trade?
Yes I would. Even with "Marshall the headache", I don't actually have to talk to him myself on a daily basis.
I'm keeping faith in A Gonzalez, but will E. Bennet and Chris Henry be able to keep my WR3 spot afloat until he comes back?
I think so, Doug. The Bengals didn't really use Henry much in Week 1 and have said that will change going forward. As for Bennett, he's going to get the looks from Cutler - once he finds his rhythm Jay will be fine.
Jamal Lewis or Percy Harvin at flex this week?
I'd go with Percy - it's a Minnesota party! Although every single time I pimp a Vikings player, I think back to last years Lions games, wasn't one 12-10? No, get back evil thoughts! Get back!
What do you make of the Arizona RB situation?
Beanie and Tim looking like Deuce and Reggie of old. I think after a few weeks, both will have fantasy value. For now, I'm only starting Tim, and only in a PPR.
Is DeAngelo still a fantasy starter? Or am I just really scared of Jake Delhomme?
Can't it be both? I think you have to start Williams if you have him, but yeah - a few INTs putting Carolina in an early hole again will not be a good thing for the Panthers' ground attack.
Clayton-Bal, Avery , or Washington as WR 3? whose better for whole season?
Close between Clayton and Washington. I'm leaning to Nate, and hoping he gets back to full speed soon.
Isn't this supposed to be a baseball chat?? Can you name some pitchers that will most likely be shut down in the next week or two? Thanks!
Nope - it's "Fantasy Sports" and most of the Q's are NFL-related. Oswalt just got shut down. Yo-Ga will likely be as well. Really, at this point, any minor strain or sprain will result in a shutdown.
Hank Baskett just signed with the colts! What will this due for his value going foward?
ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky is reporting this... while this may mean a cameo from Peyton on Kendra, I think Baskett is a mediocre receiver. What it does do is make me not rush to grab either Collie or Garcon more than making me want to grab Hank.
BUZZER BEATER... Shockey or Shank this week?
Shockey. He finally got TD1, why not TD2?
Buzzer Beater!! Flex spot - S. Holmes, L. Johnson or B. Marshall?
AJ, should I go with Hasselbeck over Schaub this week? How about Mason over Royal?
Yes on both counts.
Thoughts on Boldin this week? Play it safe and go with Burleson?
I'd wait until Sunday to be sure, but I think I go with Anquan.
One more baseball question... who is better down the stretch buccholz, penny, or peavy?
Riding with Clay.
Hines Ward or a Cassel-less Dwayne Bowe?
FJax over KSmith at RB2?
This week, yes.
Buzzer beater - Knowshon Moreno or Cadillac for the rest of the year?
Caddy, and it's not close.
And there's the gun! Hands up, knives down! Thanks to all for your Q's. We'll be back next week for some more fantasy chat, or you can find me on Twitter. Until then, we'll see you the next time on "Villa Alegre"
