Happy Friday Sports Nation and welcome to the Friday injury chat. I see that many of you are here already with your questions. Fire away - here we go!
Is Berrian going to be healthy enough to take advantage of Det on Sunday?
Matt: I think health will be better - if not perfect. The issue is that he had not established much rapport with Favre during the preseason games b/c of the HS. But he is off the injury report, I expect him to play - and certainly they have to be thinking they can do some damage here.
What's your gut say about Boldin this week?
Jason: And we really are operating from a "gut" feeling at this point since the Cards are not giving this away -and we may get a better clue by tomorrow. But this week Breaston has done hardly anything, while BOldin has done a little bit more. My gut is that Boldin plays, but is still not 100%. Don't like the matchup vs the Jags either.
Nate Burelson is on our waiver wire - is he completely over his injury issues and worthy of a pick up?
Bud (in lovely SF!): I don't know about "completely" in the sense that he may not have a game like he did last week every week - but is he a risk for re-injury? I think not. I think he's a good solid pickup, especially since we're hearing TJ Housh had back spasms and missed practice yesterday and Branch is not over is HS.
Is a setback like Antonio Bryant had uncommon?
ET: Good question. No - it's not uncommon. He was returning from knee surgery - and although he'd been practicing well, we know that games are different than practice. Word is he had "fatigue" in the knee, but it sounds as if he had some post-game soreness, swelling too. He expects to play this week, but given his response last week, they may limit his plays.
Is McNabb going to be Out Vs NO
SId: If only I had a crystal ball. The Eagles as of this a.m. have not ruled him out. But I have to believe he is a way, way long shot to play - and if for some reason he does, that's a big time risk in terms of fantasy points. He will struggle. My guess is he sits.
Hi Stephania!!!Is Welker ok for this week? I see he was limited in practice again. I know NE is famous for this.
Jeff: Yes, you have been paying attention. Remember the knee kept him out of a lot of preseason action. I was on the field for last week's MNF game during warmups and I specifically watched him going through his entire routine. He moved just fine - would never have suspected anything. No doubt they are protecting him between games by limiting his reps, so he's on the rport. But he'll play.
What kind of impact would Johnathan Stewart even make if he played this week against Atlanta?
Hi Sprung - nice to have you back: I think Stewart and Williams see about the same split vs Atlanta in terms of touches as they did last week (which was pretty close) - but Atlanta has a decent run defense and they may both be limited in terms of production.
Should I feel safe starting Mike Bell? Do you see Thomas being healthy enough to do anything this week?
Anthony: Lots of folks wondering the same thing. Thomas expects to play, but he is not 100%. I think there's a better chance he plays this week, but is still limited in terms of touches. Mike Bell gets more and I think he gets goal-line. They are playing the Eagles D so will be interesting, but I think Bell gets more than Thomas this week.
How serious is Jennings injury we have been reading about this week?
From one Pierre to another...Not serious with Jennings. He says he jammed his wrist when he fell in last week's game. He had it taped and they limited his reps in practice which is why he's on the report. He expects to play - and wants to play without tape - this weekend.
What can we expect from Kevin Walter this week? Is he really fully healed?
David: I think Walter is in good shape. He was a close call last week, meaning the team really thought about playing him. THe extra rest no doubt really helped and he's been limited in practice as additional insurance, but it sounds as if he's ready to go.
What's the status on Matt Cassel for this week? Is he ready to go?
Eric: Cassel still questionable and may come down to game time. But the word in KC is that they're encouraged by his improved mobility this week and he's able to do more, making it look more and more like he'll play.
So another site keeps reporting that Zach Miller won't play this week. They mean the Jaguars Zach Miller, not the Raiders Zach Miller, right?
Neal: Thank you for this point. Yes, Zach Miller from Jags has not practiced and is expected out. Zach Miller Raiders is NOT on the injury report. Panic no more.
Hi Stephania, love your work. In your opinion, who's going to be the better pickup for a W/T slot, E. Bennett or Greg Olson? One of the guys in our league just dropped Olson. Thanks
Carlos: Thanks - I like Olsen - and not just b/c he's a Miami Hurricane.
Stephania, Did you see anything to indicate that Reggie Bush had any additional setbacks after coming back last week or is he safe to use this week ?
Joel: No, I think the Saints used him how they planned. I still think they will be selective in how he's used based on his knee history and his talent. And this is the Eagles D.
Hi Stephania- You sounded really worried when the Anthony Gonzalez injury first happened...What do you expect when he gets back on the field? Would you keep him on your bench in a 10 team league or replace him someone like Burleson?
Chip: I am facing that decision in my own league. I was hoping for more details but the Colts aren't giving them. My inclination is to drop him b/c I believe that the PCL injury is difficult to come back from (lots of guys struggle upon return in the same season) and I suspect he may have some MCL damage as well (one source indicated that). Sadly for him, even if he comes back in 6 weeks, I think it will be a challenge. That's a long time to hang onto someone when you could acquire someone else who can be productive.
Another site reported a rumor on Monday that Colston did not get as many catches because he had something going on with his ankle and wasn't able to cut well. Any truth to this?
Adam: Only speculation as far as I can tell. He's not on any injury reports and is doing everything in practice. I'm not buying it.
I leave to go on my honeymoon in Maui tomorrow with my beautiful bride and have to set my lineup today. If you had to pick right now, do I leave Housh in my lineup or should I sub in Devin Hester or Josh Morgan?
Joe: COngratulations! Wish I were going to Hawaii...I never chance the injured guy. Sure - it could be very minor and he plays - but since you don't know and you decide today. I say go with Morgan. I don't like Hester's matchup vs Steelers
Good Morning, will Felix Jones be ready to rock and roll in the return game Sunday night?
Jem: Yep. He's not on the injury report as of yesterday so the thigh has obviously improved.
Andre Johnson said Schaub still wasn't 100% over his ankle sprain. Is his ankle going to limit him anywhere near as much as Tennessee's D this week?
Cory: Probably somewhat true. Most guys play with a little pain, and he probably still had some. But I also think Johnson was saying it in defense of Schaub as in he couldn't quite perform up to his ability. I think another week only helps as far as how the ankle's doing.
Hey Stephania, with an easy schedule this week should I sit my fantasy starters and keep them rested? Also, is Darren Sproles a good flex play this week or will LT be good to go?
Jarad: Welcome from overseas! I would never rest my best guys! It's very murky right now as to whether LT will go - but based on his lack of practice so far, I would say they're leaning towards keeping him out and saving him. At the very best, he plays an sees less action. You could start Sproles - but it's the Ravens D. May not be great either.
Hi Stephania... Any news on Jamal Lewis if the Neck Injury is going to affect his carries this week??
Hello Oz: Well, this injury was a surprise to everyone since we never heard about it after the game, just when he was missing practice. It's hard to evaluate "neck problem" which is all we get from the Browns. Could be a muscular issue which is improved and no issue Sunday. Could be a more significant disc or pinched nerve which is far more problematic. I would wait to see if he fully practices today before deciding.
Anything to worry about with Warner this week? He looked like he got dinged up pretty good last week vs SF.
Marc: I think he just looked bad - as in a step slower and older - but not necessarily attributable to "health" per se. Certainly don't think he's going to look spectacular vs Jags.
I keep hearing reports that McNabb might play, how does a quarterback throw a ball with a factured rib?
Mike: Not very well - which is why I think he won't play when it comes down to it.
Hey Stephania! how about JDavis and his shoulder?
John: All we know is that his shoulder was the reason he exited the game early, and now it's limiting him in practice. Hard to tell if this is more preventative or if he suffered a more serious injury, but I think we need to see how the Browns have Lewis and Davis in practice today.
would this week be a good time to unload LT? It may seem like a panic move, but with his injury history the last couple years, his value may just continue to drop, no?
Mike: I think it's a good week to pick him up. I think this is a hiccup and I still believe he will be very productive this year. Sure, there's a chance it doesn't work out, but he's a far more proven talent than most of the other guys out there.
Mrs. Stephania Bell (Ding!). I have Kevin Walter and Steve Breston, both of which were injured in week 1. Who is more likely to play (and produce) in week 2
Grant: Walter, no question.
Hi Stephania,Any updates on these 2 Broncos, Marshall and Moreno? Thanks!
Hi Steve: Well Moreno seemed to get through Week 1 without setbacks and I think the Broncos will continue with their original plan of gradually increasing his workload. Might be a nice time to start against the Browns. Marshall is still feeling his way back into game shape, but is not on the injury report so am assuming the hip feels fine. And I also think he picks it up this week.
Is DeSean Jackson's groin ready for action?
Fry: Yep - he's fully practicing so this looks like it was a strain of the minor variety.
How do you put up with Berry, Ravitz and Pod Vader?
Big Sam: Ahhhh, it's a question I ask myself repeatedly.
Did Cadillac have any soreness or swelling in his knee after last week, or is he ok to play over LT this week?
Jason: None reported. Not on injury report. Yes, I think he's a safer start.
Hi Stephania ... any updates on Mayo's MCL? Does a injury like this make him more of a risk for another injury on the same knee?
Paul: Other than hearing it's an MCL we've heard nothing definitve. He's on crutches so we know it's a more serious sprain. Have heard rumors of 8 weeks missed time but that's impossible to say for sure at this point. To answer your question, it's YES if he comes back too soon. If the tissue scars in well and heals, then not necessarily, no. I"m sure he'll come back in a brace though to help provide added protection.
Steph.....Mason Crosby....how injured is he....Kickers get big numbers in my league.
Jason: He's got an abdominal strain - big deal for a kicker since you get so much power from your trunk. Apparently this has been a presence since training camp but this is the first time he's been on the injury report (which makes me wonder if it's worse). He's been limited in practice, perhaps to help make sure he doesn't overdo it - and the team has not made a move for another kicker, always a good sign they think the guy will play - but check Friday practice -will give a big clue.
What kind of effect do you think the Farve injury cover-up will have on the rest of the league. Teams like New England and now the Browns seem to play injury report games... will it make them be more upfront?
Mike: Nope. Unfortunately I still think the guidelines are vague enough that lots of guys can get around being specific. In Favre's case it was pretty blatant in that he was not taking full reps in practice and had a definitive injury and they were not reporting it. The reverse, limiting a guy in practice and putting him on the injury report, even if you know he's going to play (barring something crazy) seems to be less likely to draw a negative reaction from the league.
Goodmorning Starphania quick question how is Kyle Orton doing? The main reason I ask is Im thinking about starting Eddie Royal and I dont know if I should. Thanks
Brian: He's doing better than he was this time last week. Full practices, no doubt really that he starts. And it's the Browns.
Another guy on our waiver wire is Chaz Schillens. I'm hearing conflicting reports on how much longer he'll be out - what's your guess and how effective will he be when he gets back given his type of injury?
Bud: All along the earliest was going to be Week 3. Sounds to me like could be additional week beyond that b/c he needs to get back into practice first. At least this is the kind of injury that once healed post-surgery does not present residual problems. Only issue will be the game readiness and that may take a game or two to get back. So effectiveness may not be at its peak right away but that should only improve.
You didn't answer the question about Knowshon Moreno
I did - but this happens at least once/week. Please hit refresh and it should come up. SOmewhere in technology land it seems to hang out and needs a refresh.
Hey Stephania! Any word on Bo Scaife for Sunday?
Andres: Not participating in practice definitely makes him a concern. Need to see if he can get out there today, may be a gtd.
You must be bombarded this morning with questions. My apologies for adding to the mix. But can you help me with a deal I am pondering? LT, Romo, and Willis McGahee for Brady and Ronnie Brown. I need help at RB, but worried about the health of Romo and LT. Please advise. Thank you.
Jeremy: I am - but that's a good thing in my world. Not great that there are so many injuries - but it is the nature of the game. I take the trade. I'm not worried about LT long-term. Romo will get you a lot of fantasy points. McGahee won't do what he did last week every week, but he may have earned himself some more playing time. I love Brady's fantasy value, but I really don't care for Brown's. SO I think over the long haul you get the better deal.
Which Colt would you pick up to replace Anthony Gonzo?
Rob: Garcon - maybe I just like his name b/c it's French.
And on that note, thank you so much for coming everyone. Very, very busy chat. Appreciate all your questions.
