Chat with Jon Anik

Jon Anik
  (1:02 PM)

Yo. Great to be back with MMA Nation. Can hardly contain my enthusiasm for the UFC fight night tonite and the debut of Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter. No time to waste, so let's vent.

Douglasm1986 (Chicago )

Do u think if Kimbo wasn't in this seasons TUF, do u think it would still get as big of ratings knowing that the Rampage/Evans fight isn't in the near future??

Jon Anik
  (1:04 PM)

There is no doubt that Kimbo is the guy who moves the needle. But Rashad and Rampage are as marketable as it gets for coaches. Even with the fight being postponed, their mere presence on the show would still result in strong ratings. Also, people love watching the big guys go at it, and this season exclusively features heavyweights, another ratings booster.

kenflo (okc)

how much do u miss kenny florian when he is not on the set?

Jon Anik
  (1:04 PM)

Hahahahaha. Sooooooooooooo much.

John (Memphis,TN)

JA, so are you as excited as we are for tuf 10 tonight or do you know to much to make the season interesting?

Jon Anik
  (1:06 PM)

I have heard plenty of rumors (from some great sources), but I still don't put much stock in them. I wouldn't put it past the UFC to float a few rumors out there to throw people off. A lot of misinformation out there. And there is no curbing my enthusiasm. Kimbo could be fighting tonite!

Mr. T (Chicago)

I pity the fool who thinks he can be B.A. Baracus.

Charlie (Philly)

What are you thoughts on Dos Santos v. CroCop? Are you sold on the return of CroCop? I think Dos Santos is going to score another wicked KO.

Jon Anik
  (1:07 PM)

Not sold on Cro Cop. I like dos Santos in a big way and expect Filipovic to be drooling on the canvas at fight's end.

Paul (Isherwood)

Hi Jon - what do you think about some of the TUF cast saying Kimbo has a target on his chest? Do you think some guys are looking to clean his clock and become famous - like the guy that shot Jesse James?

Jon Anik
  (1:08 PM)

There is no doubt that EVERY other heavyweight on the show will be trying to take it Kimbo. If I was a fellow contestant, I'd be gunning for Slice, and the exposure that would go along with fighting him.

P.J. Harrison (Chicago, IL)

What is your early prediction for fight of the night for UFN 19?

Jon Anik
  (1:09 PM)

I wouldn't be surprised if Huerta-Maynard turns into a war. But I'll go with Nate Quarry-Tim Credeur.

Sammy (San Antonio)

Will this be Roger Huerta's last mma fight?

Jon Anik
  (1:10 PM)

Definitely not. He way take an extended hiatus, but Huerta is a competitor and eventually will get back in some cage.

Andrew (Newfoundland)

What was it like having Kimbo on set last week??

Jon Anik
  (1:10 PM)

Tremendous. He exceeded our expectations in every area. He's a mature, intelligent guy. I think he's thrilled to no longer have to single-handedley carry a promotion.

Brian (Milwaukee, WI)

What are your picks for tonight and Saturday?

Jon Anik
  (1:13 PM)

So many fights to predict, so I'll be quick. Tonite, I like Maynard, perhaps even by knockout (call me crazy). Also backing Condit, Credeur, Cantwell and Dollaway (won't be easy). For UFC 103, unless Vitor starts fast, I think Franklin will find his rhythm and range and emerge with the decision. Also like dos Santos big, Kampmann, Frank Trigg to upset Koscheck, and Tyson Griffin, who needs a big performance.

Andrew (Newfoundland)

Think Couture has a chance of breaking the MMA Live curse against Vera?

Jon Anik
  (1:13 PM)

What curse?

Fred (Hoboken)

What happens if Daley beats The Hitman?

Jon Anik
  (1:15 PM)

Good question. I think you may see Carlos Condit get a shot at GSP, but only if he finishes Ellenberger. It'd be a tough predicament for the UFC. I really hope, if Kampmann wins convincingly, that he gets an immediate title shot.

Paul (Cleveland)

Hi Jon - did you really pick Jurassic Trigg to beat Kos? No way!

Jon Anik
  (1:15 PM)

You know it. I went chalk almost across the board. Had to work a couple underdogs in there.

Justin (Tucson)

What are your thoughts on Couture VS. Vera? Does a Randy win propel him to a championship bout, fight Anderson, face a top contender like Evans, set up a rematch with Tito or what? Not completely sure I get this fight?

Jon Anik
  (1:17 PM)

At first, I had major reservations about the fight, but now, I think it makes sense. For Randy, a win gets him on the title track at 205. Ditto for Vera. I don't see Couture as a heavyweight contender anymore, so I'm not surprised he's trying his hand at 205. Also, when you're guaranteed 1.5 million per fight, might as well fight often.

sammy ((chicago))

is vera being set up to be cut?

Jon Anik
  (1:17 PM)

I don't think so. I see Vera as a pretty marketable guy and a gifted fighter. I don't think he's going anywhere, should he lose to Couture.

suave (philippines)

what's good jon? 1st time here. when do you think ace will make a run at 205? he keeps taking these catch weight bouts. win or loose, would they actually help his career?

Jon Anik
  (1:18 PM)

Good to have you, Suave. I really hope (maybe I should pray) that this will be Ace's final catch-weight fight for awhile. If he's ever gonna contend at 205, he must start fighting top light heavyweights. Perhaps he gets the Vera-Couture winner, I don't know. But I agree with you- He's just a yes man right now.

Dan S. (Waukesha, WI)

Ladies: no complaining about not getting your questions answered this week. Enjoy the chat regardless!

Jon Anik
  (1:19 PM)

Hahaha. Thanks, Dan.

Paul (Cleveland)

Hi Jon - any chance of Kenny and Diego on TUF 11. That would be the best ever. But only if Kenny beats down the bully ;-)

Jon Anik
  (1:20 PM)

You'd have to think the possibility has been discussed. But there are a lot of outcomes that would get in the way. Diego has to beat BJ Penn. Kenny has to beat Clay Guida and perhaps Gray Maynard as well in order to get the title shot. It's a possibility, but I'm not sure all of those fights can happen before filming begins for Season 11.

john (memphis, tn)

you mean the carpenter ?

Jon Anik
  (1:20 PM)

Perhaps he did. But either way, I think Kenny would have to get through both guys. Just one man's opinion.

Matt (Texas)

Will we see Kimbo actually fight tonight?

Jon Anik
  (1:21 PM)

Certainly a possibility. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Kimbo get called out right away.

Isaac (Denver)

What does Torres have lined up?

Jon Anik
  (1:21 PM)

He deserves an immediate rematch against Brian Bowles, but I'm not sure he will get it. Miguel will be in Bristol tomorrow, and I'll be sure to pepper him for ya.

Andrew C. (Montgomery)

Jon, is there any word on expanding MMA coverage on ESPN TV or is it still limited to the Internet?

Jon Anik
  (1:23 PM)

Hi Andrew. We've already made some strides in expanding the coverage...Weigh-in Specials on ESPNEWS and SC hits when we are on location. We're moving in the right direction. But for right now, MMA Live is still limited to espn.com. At least it's in HD. :)

Brian (Milwaukee, WI)

Tell Torres to do a super fight against Faber.

Jon Anik
  (1:23 PM)

He would take the fight in a millisecond.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Anik -- your chats have become too popular with bandwagon fans.

Jon Anik
  (1:24 PM)

How do you gauge that? I say the more the merrier. But I know you are one of the hardcores who's been with me from the start, Jason. And I appreciate that.

Isaac (Denver)

I'll try again with the Gomi question: Rumor has it he's heading to the UFC, any word on that?

Jon Anik
  (1:24 PM)

I haven't heard anything concrete, but the UFC is interested.

Charlie (Philly)

Hey Jon, what are you thoughts on Brown v. Aldo at WEC 44?

Jon Anik
  (1:24 PM)

Look out, MTB.

john (memphis, tn)

you act like gray maynard will walk through huerta tonight.. if he losses, which isnt outta the question.. that helps florian out some wouldnt you thinik

Jon Anik
  (1:25 PM)

John, I said it could be the Fight of the Night, so that would mean it'd be competitive. A Huerta win would certainly be beneficial for Florian. I'm not sleeping on Roger. I guess I just think Maynard is that good. We'll see what happens in a few hours.

Baumer (NYC)

Have you recovered from Kimbo's shove yet?

Jon Anik
  (1:27 PM)

Ha. When we rehearsed that open, he pushed me much harder than he did when we were live. But he did that on his own. He was just supposed to walk into the shot, but he played it up. Our producers were hoping he'd push me even harder. Strong dude.

lucas (okc)

do you think dana will ever get fedor into the ufc?

Jon Anik
  (1:28 PM)

At this point, no. It would've happened recently when Fedor was a free agent if it was ever gonna happen. They offered him a ton of money. The ship has sailed.

Love Sauce (Phoenix AZ)

did bones jones fight make it to fight night tonight? : ( sorry im unifomred

Jon Anik
  (1:28 PM)

That's okay. His fight is December 5th, not tonite.

manny (ca)

Did kimbo win ultamite fighter you were talking like he did?

Jon Anik
  (1:29 PM)

All I can offer up is a prediction. I think he makes it all the way to the finale. Just an opinion, and not based upon any conversations. I base it on his body language and the huge media push they are giving him. Would they promote the bag out of him if he got knocked out in his first fight? I tend to doubt it.

bobby (florida)

jon, do you think that ufc came up with a good enough main event for 105? imo couture-vera just doesn't sound like a main event quality fight

Jon Anik
  (1:30 PM)

Randy Couture on free TV is good enough for me. I do understand where you are coming from, but I'm satisfied. What I like about the fight is that people think both guys can win. I find that most predictions are split down the middle, which is intriguing.

Peter Lampasona (Oceanside, NY)

Does Kimbo even need to do well the see a return to the UFC after the show? It seems his marketability is bulletproof.

Jon Anik
  (1:31 PM)

I would agree, Peter. I expect Kimbo to be in the UFC for some time. All he really needs to do is win one out of every 2-3 fights to keep his spot, because of his obvious drawing power.

Paul (Cleveland)

Wouldn't Brian Urlacher make a good MMA dude? I can see him taking Brock down and teaching him some manners.

Jon Anik
  (1:32 PM)

Urlacher is one of several NFL linebackers that could make the transition. But even Patrick Willis, who actively trains in MMA, would have to devote 18 months exclusively to MMA in order to have long-term success.

manny (ca)

paul your crazy brocks no joke.

Baumer (NYC)

Where do you think a win by Brock Larson tonight puts him? 2 fights from a title shot?

Jon Anik
  (1:32 PM)

Sounds about right. Should be a nice showcase for him tonite.

ruben (CA)

You should try to get Dana White to do a chat session. Has he ever done one? Or has he ever been live on set?

Jon Anik
  (1:33 PM)

We've had him in Bristol for MMA Live three times. Always a pleasure. I wish we had him on more. Maybe next time he is here we'll push for a quick chat.

Brad (Madison, WI)

Where do you think the notables get picked tonight on TUF (Nelson, Sims, the NFLers, Kimbo, etc)?

Jon Anik
  (1:33 PM)

I think Rampage will take Kimbo with his first pick and Rashad will take Roy Nelson. Marcus Jones would be my first pick.

ACCBiggz (Portsmouth, Ohio)

We should all get Dana to cover my hotel for WEC/UFC 106...

Jon Anik
  (1:34 PM)

LOL.

Justin (Ann Arbor)

How much weight does Lesnar have to cut to make it to 265? And on fighting day how much does he actually weigh?

Jon Anik
  (1:34 PM)

He cuts down from 290, and comes in right on the number every time. On fight night, he's about 280-285. Also, he is much bigger in person. TV just doesn't do him justice. I'm tellin' ya.

Kevin (Charlotte, NC)

When are or will we EVER see GSP vs. A. Silva?ORWill A. Silva ever fight Machida?

Jon Anik
  (1:35 PM)

At this point, I don't expect to see GSP vs. A. Silva. St. Pierre is focused on becoming the best welterweight of all-time, and I just don't know how long Silva is for MMA. I don't expect him to still be fighting when GSP is finally ready to accept that challenge. Silva wants Roy Jones Jr.

CosmoSherry (Tampa FL)

Are you with me on this; Kenflo is going to submit Guida in Rd 1?

Jon Anik
  (1:36 PM)

Way too early for me to go on the record, Cosmo. All I will say is that I don't expect the fight to end in the first round. Guida will be ready.

Peter Lampasona (Oceanside, NY)

The TUF 10 cast, at least the ones that come in with the most notoriety, are all pretty old to be starting with a new promotion. Not everyone is Randy Couture. Can you see Nelson, Jones, or Slice fighting much longer after the show?

Jon Anik
  (1:37 PM)

Good question. Age effects many fighters differently. I don't think Roy Nelson's physique will aid his longevity any. But I think Marcus Jones has the desire and commitment to fight for awhile. As for Kimbo, I'd say 2-3 years and he'll get out.

Matt (NYC)

Whose your pick between Nate and Melvin?

Jon Anik
  (1:38 PM)

Nate by submission.

Mike (Tn)

last time I looked Trigg was 300 dog... Are these guys crazy?

Jon Anik
  (1:38 PM)

I definitely think that line is out of whack.

Kevin (Charlotte, NC)

Do you think we'll start seeing some of the WEC elite (Faber, Bowles, Torres, etc...) on UFC cards within the next year?

Jon Anik
  (1:38 PM)

Not unless the two promotions merge.

Kanye West (VMAs)

Jon Anik is one of the greatest of all time....of ALL time!

Jon Anik
  (1:39 PM)

What a terrible display by Kanye on Sunday. Shameful. He had a worse day than Jake Delhomme.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

So are you saying Trigg is your upset special?

Jon Anik
  (1:39 PM)

I wouldn't bet the mortgage. But yes, I have picked Trigg to spring the upset.

Kevin (Charlotte, NC)

Does hosting this show help in the "chick" department?

Jon Anik
  (1:40 PM)

Hahahahahaha. I think being a fighter would help more.

Jake Delhomme (Charlotte)

At least I am on TV Anik!

Jon Anik
  (1:40 PM)

Hahahaha. That's good stuff right there. Haha.

manny (ca)

who is matt houghs gonna fight next.

Jon Anik
  (1:41 PM)

I think Hughes will get Mike Swick next.

Sammy (San Antonio)

Can you see Urijah Faber fighting for Strikeforce in 2010?

Jon Anik
  (1:41 PM)

Nope.

Andrew C. (Montgomery)

Do you think the UFC 103 card will outsell Mayweathers return fight?

Jon Anik
  (1:42 PM)

I think it'll be close, but I think UFC 103 will do a better number. I expect between 450,000-500,000 for Mayweather-Marquez. And hopefully 103 will be just north of that. I will be buying both, unfortunately.

manny (ca)

I thoght the belfort fight was at middle weight?

Jon Anik
  (1:42 PM)

195.

Sue (Georgia)

Honestly with Slice emerging from the web..and getting on tv. Do you think that we will have more fighters trying to get attention via tube and twitter for contracts?

Jon Anik
  (1:42 PM)

I think Kimbo is a rare breed and a rare combination of style and substance. Easier said than done.

Isaac (Denver)

Work doesn't comp you for buying the fights?

Jon Anik
  (1:43 PM)

Tax write-offs, but that doesn't amount to much. I know. I'm a sucka.

P.J. Harrison (Chicago, IL)

Do you think 10/31 is a good day for StrikeForce's next event in that they can market "the grim"?

Jon Anik
  (1:44 PM)

Sure. 'The Grim' on Halloween. Strikeforce puzzles me, though. They have this huge presser to announce Fedor-Rogers, and don't give you a date or a venue. They are killing their own momentum. Baffling.

Paul (Cleveland)

Hi Jon - did you see Bob Arum's comments about the UFC? Is he completely deranged or what!

Jon Anik
  (1:44 PM)

We will discuss Arum's interview with Ariel Helwani tomorrow on MMA Live.

Jon Anik
  (1:45 PM)

Also, both Rashad Evans and Miguel Torres will be in Bristol for MMA Live tomorrow.

George (Alexandria, VA)

Jon, You didn't predict a winner between Diaz and Guillard!! Who you got??

Jon Anik
  (1:45 PM)

Read the transcript my man. It's in there. I went with Diaz by submission.

Bradley (Regina SK CAN)

A lot of hype about Kimbo, but isnt this guy too small to fight the likes of Lesnar, Carwin and Duffee?

Jon Anik
  (1:46 PM)

Great point, Bradley. Yes. Kimbo is too small to fight the Lesnars and Carwins of the world. No doubt about it. Kimbo told me he could cut down to 205, and wouldn't rule it out down the road.

Mike (Tn)

Why does Rich Franklin not get any love? Not from MMA nation, not from the UFC, and not in the chat. Doesn't he deserve to fight top 5 guys in the LHW division?

Jon Anik
  (1:48 PM)

He does get some love from MMA Nation, but not enough. You're right. I think Franklin is the consummate company guy, and that has hurt him. He's only gonna fight for 2-3 more years max, and he deserves to at least compete for a championship. Hopefully, after the Belfort fight, he gets to face a Top 5 205er.

Greg (CT)

Do you think the UFC needs a weight class at 195 and/or 225 to help out guys like Rich Franklin and Randy Couture?

Jon Anik
  (1:49 PM)

I think 5 weight classes is more than enough. I understand why you and others ask about it. But there aren't enough guys to fill out an entire division. Plus, you weaken the other two divisions in the process.

Bradley (Regina SK CAN)

Which fighter missing weight would be the most devastating blow to UFC?

Jon Anik
  (1:49 PM)

Any champion. But Brock Lesnar missing weight would be disastrous, b/c he's already a 'super' heavyweight. His naysayers would have a lot of ammo if he missed the number.

Kevin (Charlotte, NC)

Do you see any lightweight beating BJ Penn in the next 2-years?

Mark (Washington, DC)

Any chance (other than flukely ko) that Big Roy doesn't win TUF?

Jon Anik
  (1:50 PM)

Sure there is, Mark. There is a lot of talent in that house. Roy has been on the big stage before, and a lot of the other guys haven't. But I don't expect Nelson to reach the Finale.

Jason (Owosso, MI)

Do you play Fantasy UFC?

Jon Anik
  (1:51 PM)

Here and there. Not as much as I would like to. I'm a huge fantasy football guy.

Mike (Tn)

Big Roy isn't the betting favorite to win TUF on the websites i have looked at...

Jon Anik
  (1:51 PM)

Interesting...

sammy ((chicago))

roadhouse one of the alltime great guys movie r.i.p. swayze

Snapple Cap (MIA)

Where am I???

Jason (Owosso, MI)

Any good books to read right now?

Jon Anik
  (1:52 PM)

I just ordered Greg Nelson's MMA book. Name is escaping me right now.

Isaac (Denver)

If Kimbo loses his first fight on TUF will you finally admit there's an MMA Live curse?

Jon Anik
  (1:52 PM)

Hahaha. No curse. Our analysts had a great record before this losing streak. Florian, Mir, and Torres all had multiple wins.

Kendrick (Chi)

Evans or Jackson

Jon Anik
  (1:53 PM)

Rashad baby.

Trevor (Cape Coral)

Who you got, Lesnar or Carwin?

Jon Anik
  (1:53 PM)

BROCK. But I think Carwin is the guy best-equipped to beat Lesnar. And I wouldn't be surprised if Shane got it done.

Peter Lampasona (Oceanside, NY)

So, Anik, which NFL team do you pull for?

Jon Anik
  (1:53 PM)

Born and raised in Boston, MA. New England.

Reginald (Houston, TX)

Do you think anyone will care about the Rampage/Evans fight next year?

Jon Anik
  (1:54 PM)

Absolutely. It's one of the biggest and best fights the UFC can make. I would watch it in black and white.

ErikG. (AZ)

Essentials of string by Greg Nelson

Jon Anik
  (1:54 PM)

Thanks.

Jim (Phila)

If Kimbo were to get a contract, who do you see him going up against......

Jon Anik
  (1:54 PM)

Big names. Perhaps Liddell at 205. Or some smaller heavyweights. I don't think he'll ever fight for the heavyweight title. He's too small, as stated above.

Jeremy (Indianapolis)

striking not string

Jon Anik
  (1:55 PM)

I thought that looked bizarre. Thanks, Jeremy.

Evan (Chicago)

Great work Jon. I know this is a MMA chat, but have you seen 24/7? Marquez must have the worst breath ever known to a fighter.

Jon Anik
  (1:55 PM)

I'm still a boxing fan (a couple times a year). I've seen all of 24/7. Nobody does documentaries like HBO.

Reginald (Houston, TX)

Do you think they should have waited for Lashley for this season's heavyweights?

Jon Anik
  (1:56 PM)

Lashley could've been on the show. His management didn't think it was the right move. They are proceeding slowly with Lashley and it's hard to argue with the methodology thus far.

Tyler (North Carolina)

If Tyson Griffin wins impressively (KO or submission), where does that put him in the rankings?

Jon Anik
  (1:57 PM)

He must finish Franca to even be in the title discussion. I think he's behind Maynard, Edgar, Florian, and Sanchez (obviously). And even Pellegrino, if Kurt gets through Edgar. Just my opinion. Tyson needs a statement win.

Leo (Boston MA)

Any chance we see an MMA fighter on next season of Shaq vs? If so who do you think it would be?

Jon Anik
  (1:58 PM)

What a great show that is. I think Shaq hasn't included MMA yet because he has legitimate MMA aspirations once his NBA days are over. Shaq would take an MMA fight very seriously.

manny (ca)

Dose the winner of fedor vs rogers get a title shot an will allistar accept?

Jon Anik
  (1:58 PM)

I see the Fedor-Rogers fight as the title fight.

Jim (Phila)

What's the deal with Hendo? Love that guy.

Jon Anik
  (1:59 PM)

Who doesn't? Hendo is negotiating a new deal with the UFC. The man deserves to get paid, and he will.

John (memphis, tn)

Nogueira is lined up for 107 .. any idea of who he may face?

Jon Anik
  (2:00 PM)

Todd Duffee? I wouldn't make that match-up, but it could happen, as Duffee is also booked for 107. That'd be a tough match-up for Nog.

Michael B. (England)

I don't like Hendo!

Jon Anik
  (2:00 PM)

And Bisping is awake!

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Shaq at age 40 will do MMA? Who is he going to fight? Couture at age 60?

Jon Anik
  (2:01 PM)

Ha. It might just be an exhibition, but I really think Shaq will eventually get in the Octagon. Even if he fights someone like Bob Sapp. I think Dana White would do everything in his power (he's got a lot of it) to make sure Shaq debuted in the UFC.

Mike Swift! (Ottawa)

Nog vs. Gonzaga would be nice.

Tyler (North Carolina)

Any more guests lined up for MMA Live? It'd be awesome to see Ace in studio again, or Forrest

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

I'd love to have Forrest Griffin in Bristol. He's one of the few big UFC names that we haven't had live at ESPN. This week, we've got Torres and Rashad.

erik B (long island)

is mma live going to be on tv soon ?

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

I hope so.

Brian (Milwaukee, WI)

I doubt the Cavs would let Shaq do an MMA fight, even an exhibition...maybe a grapple fight, like Fedor and Moussasi did.

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

I'm saying after his NBA career, not during.

Gene (DC)

Great break on the Edgar v Pellegrino fight Jon! Does this mean Frankie is temporarily on the outside looking in for a title fight? I can see how a win vs. batman can help his cause that much?

Jon Anik
  (2:03 PM)

Thanks, Gene. I think your assessment is accurate. Not a ton to gain for Edgar, other than money.

Nate (Minneapolis, MN)

No mcniel this week on MMA live?

Jon Anik
  (2:04 PM)

McNeil will be there. Just was highlighting the fighters. And sorry if your questions aren't getting answered, Nate. Trying to give everyone a chance as best I can.

Jon Anik
  (2:04 PM)

For all the whiners and haters, shoot me a question on Twitter (Jon_Anik) or via e-mail (jon.a.anik@espn.com) if I don't get to you here.

Lee (Maryland)

If Nate Diaz loses tonight, does he consider a move to 145 or will he just continue to be bullied around by shorter, stockier fighters at LW?

Jon Anik
  (2:05 PM)

He missed weight yesterday, Lee. Just don't see how he consistently would make 145. But you are right with regard to his current history against short, stocky opponents. Nate needs a win.

erik B (long island)

what is your dream fight ?

Jon Anik
  (2:05 PM)

For awhile, it was Anderson Silva-Georges St. Pierre. Now, it's Lesnar-Fedor.

TIM (THOMASVILLE)

Penn, St Pierre, ASilva, Machida, Lesnar.......who loses their belt first?

Jon Anik
  (2:06 PM)

My answer on this question changes every week, Tim. Who do you think? Today, I'll say Machida.

Nick (Minneapolis)

Be careful if you get Forrest on Live, he might run off the set if he messes up a line!

Isaac (Denver)

Really, you want whiners and haters emailing you?

Jon Anik
  (2:07 PM)

Hahaha. As most of you know, I respond to 95% of the personal e-mails I get. It's far easier to make that happen than to get to all of the questions in the chat.

CosmoSherry (Tampa FL)

Which x-UFC fighter would you like to see back in the octagon?

Jon Anik
  (2:08 PM)

Nick Diaz.

Jarrett (Louisville, KY)

Have McNeil's sources said anything about A Silva's elbow and if he will fight again in 2009?

Jon Anik
  (2:08 PM)

A lot of McNeil's information on this situation is off the record. Hopefully, he'll be able to go on the record this week. All I will say is that there remains some misinformation out there.

TIM (THOMASVILLE)

I think St Pierre. He's the only one who's shown that he CAN be beaten consistently at in his own weight class. Penn's only loss came when he went up 20 lbs, he doesn lose at lightweight. Silva

Jon Anik
  (2:09 PM)

I'm sure there are plenty of folks that agree with you. I just think this GSP is an entirely different animal than the guy who lost to Hughes and Serra.

Internet Whiner (Anytown, USA)

Answer our questions NOW, Anik!

Tyler (North Carolina)

With two of Strikeforce's champions being extremely inactive, do you think that makes the company look bad? Le and Overeem should both be stripped of their titles

Jon Anik
  (2:10 PM)

Yes it does, and yes they should.

Bradley (Regina SK CAN)

My idea: UFC 108: Brother vs Brother: Nogueira, Diaz, Shamrock. Who else could be there?

Jon Anik
  (2:10 PM)

Hahaha. Lauzon vs. Lauzon. Miller vs. Miller, although Jim would have no shot. I'd like to see Keith and Kenny Florian!

Josh (Orlando )

Does Nogueira stand a chance against Lesnar if they keep the fight standing up?

Jon Anik
  (2:11 PM)

I just don't see it, Josh. Far be it from me to doubt Nog. Lord knows I've been burned in the past, but I just don't see it.

Mike M. (Los Angeles)

The UFC is gonna have to reinforce the cage for Carwin vs. Lesnar

Jon Anik
  (2:12 PM)

Great point, Mike.

Mike Swift! (Ottawa)

What's your chat length record Jon?

Jon Anik
  (2:13 PM)

I think we've gone 2 1/2 hours in the past. If I wasn't at work with a show to write and MLB highlights to voice, I would go all day. At some point, I will do a 5-hour chat. Not gonna chase Matthew Berry's record, though.

rob (jersey) [via mobile]

Jon - PBF/JMM Saturday. Vitor over Franklin. PBF, by stoppage -- Memphis in Dec. What's up?

Jon Anik
  (2:14 PM)

Love Mayweather in the fight, and hoping to see him stop Marquez. I'm a huge fan of both guys, Robert. I like you coming strong with the Vitor prediction. You're not alone. And as for UFC 107 in Memphis, I fully expect that MMA Live will be there.

Mike (TN)

You said you thought Carwin had the best tools to beat Lesnar. Did you mean best tools out of the UFC or MMA? Better than Fedor?

Jon Anik
  (2:15 PM)

Out of the UFC. Important clarification. I agree with you that Fedor is the heavyweight in the world who'd have the best chance vs. Lesnar.

Matthew Berry (Bristol)

That's right you stand down Anik!

Jon Anik
  (2:15 PM)

Haha. I hope that's TMR.

CosmoSherry (Tampa FL)

Do you ever visit UFC.com forums or community?

Jon Anik
  (2:16 PM)

I wish I had the time, Cosmo. That may sound like a cop out. But I am curious. Just don't get in there.

John (PA)

Overall thoughts on Kimbo and his future plans.

Jon Anik
  (2:16 PM)

I think he's in a great place mentally, now that he doesn't have to carry the EliteXC torch. I think he's gonna do very well on the show, and have several UFC fights thereafter.

gregg (philly)

Did you get any info on the Bas/Kimbo issues? Didn't see it on MMA live?

Jon Anik
  (2:17 PM)

That was the one question we couldn't get to. It was on the list, but we ran out of time. Both guys have offered up some comments recently. It's all over the web.

TIM (THOMASVILLE)

Fedor might be great, but until you step up to the plate and play with the big boys, you simply CANNOT be considered elite. He's nothing more than Michael Crabtree at this point, putting up big numbers against college-level competition, congrats.

Jon Anik
  (2:18 PM)

I don't agree with all of that. But you are right in that his legacy will be incomplete if he doesn't fight the top guys in the UFC. He has beaten plenty of elite guys. It's just too bad that, right now, he's not in line to challenge any of the current elite.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Tell Tim that Fedor has beat some of the best in the world. Ignorant.

mark (denver)

Do you see aldo knocking out mtb?

Jon Anik
  (2:19 PM)

Certainly a possibility. I wouldn't want to be in a cage with Jose Aldo right now.

Steve (Baltimore)

Only 1 more day for more Franklin McNeil Baby!

Jon Anik
  (2:19 PM)

You know it!

Charlie (Philly)

Sounds like Tim needs to go back and learn a little mma history particularly look up Pride.

Ken (Pittsburgh)

Jon, sorry I'm late. Work distracts me for MMA sometimes, not cool. I want to talk about Brock... Larson! Can this exciting 170lb-er gets some love? He's 28-2 for crying out loud!

Jon Anik
  (2:20 PM)

Glad you've arrived, and so has Brock Larson. I share your enthusiasm. Only think going against him is his name. Sounds way too much like another Brock.

Jason (Owosso, MI)

What did you think of Michael Jordan's HOF Speech?

Jon Anik
  (2:21 PM)

I was entertained while I watched it live. But after the fact, I thought it was petty and beyond arrogant. I guess that's MJ, though.

Jason (Owosso, MI)

FROM McNiel: Thanks @Jon_Anik for saying during chat my info on Anderson Silva is off the record. I will reveal it soon when given okay.

Jon Anik
  (2:21 PM)

Is that from Twitter? I guess McNeil is in the chat room. :)

Mark Hollak (Boston)

Whats next in store for Forrest Griffin?

Jon Anik
  (2:22 PM)

100 meters at 2012 Olympics.

Mike Swift! (Ottawa)

Buy or Sell? Fedor comes to the UFC after his three fight M-1 contract is up?

Jon Anik
  (2:22 PM)

Sell sell sell.

rob (jersey) [via mobile]

Are the Bellator execs going to watch Huerta tonight? Huerta/Alvarez could set up a great fight for them (in Foxwoods, or Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton,NJ - hint hint)...

Jon Anik
  (2:22 PM)

Haha. They'll be watching for sure man.

alfonso ortiz (amarillo, tx)

what do you think about Marius Pudzianowski in MMA, i'm such a huge fan

Jon Anik
  (2:23 PM)

Don't know much about him. You've piqued my interest, Alfonso. Will look him up after the chat.

Chris (Haskell TX)

What do you think about Bobby Lashley?

Jon Anik
  (2:23 PM)

A great prospect who is just biding his time. Lashley will be heard from. He'll be a ubiquitous Top 10 heavyweight in the world next year at this time.

Andrew C. (Montgomery)

With Gina making movies now, do you think she is leaving fighting for good or will return?

Jon Anik
  (2:24 PM)

She'll be back. She's just capitalizing on her appreciable momentum. A lot of money to be made for Carano right now.

Franklin McNeil (New Jersey)

I'm here, following my buddy Jon.

Jon Anik
  (2:24 PM)

Great to have you, bro!

Charlie (Philly)

Thoughts on Lil Nog v. Luis Cane? UFC 106 is looking insane.

Jon Anik
  (2:25 PM)

Insane is right. I like the match-up. Lil Nog is on fire, but so is Cane. As long as Cane's cardio doesn't abandon him, it's his fight to lose.

Ken (Pittsburgh)

All Brock Larson does is win, and he's on the undercard again! This injustice must be stopped!

Jon Anik
  (2:25 PM)

Haha. You can only ignore a guy who keeps winning for so long.

Nate (Minneapolis, MN)

F-MAC IN THE BUIDLING!!!!

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Way to steal your own joke about Kanye West via twitter.

Jon Anik
  (2:26 PM)

Hahahaha. You guys don't miss anything.

Jason (Kentucky)

Is Kongo ever gonna live up to expectations?

Jon Anik
  (2:26 PM)

Not until the dude learns how to stuff a takedown. I was baffled by his performance against Cain Velasquez.

Bradley (Regina SK CAN)

Do you have a crew that you watch MMA PPV's with?

Jon Anik
  (2:28 PM)

Sometimes I am here working (college football, etc.) and oftentimes we are on location. I watched UFC 102 at ESPN w/ Florian. But when I'm off, there are a few heads that get together.

Ricardo Almeida (jersey) [via mobile]

Jon - I understand you bet against me and now owe someone something....

Jon Anik
  (2:28 PM)

No idea what you're talking about.

Pavlik (Seattle, Wa)

Randy couture Ko's Vera via old man strength! Early predictions?

Jon Anik
  (2:29 PM)

My early prediction is that Randy's toughness is his biggest advantage. I'm leaning towards Vera, actually.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Were candles involved when watching UFC 102?

Jon Anik
  (2:29 PM)

Hahaha. And rose petals.

nay (florida)

you guys do a great job on mma live

Jon Anik
  (2:29 PM)

Thanks, Nay. We appreciate you watching.

Larry T. (Towson)

Franklin McNeil will own you like he does the danish tray in Bristol!

Jon Anik
  (2:30 PM)

Ouch. He does own that danish tray.

Forrest (Vegas)

What's next for me?

Jon Anik
  (2:30 PM)

Trilogy fight with Bonnar?

Tank (Norfolk)

Does McNeil have to pay his "sources"?

Jon Anik
  (2:30 PM)

They pay him to get the information out there. :)

Alan (Cleveland)

who do you think gets less love Larson or Top 10 185er Okami?

Jon Anik
  (2:31 PM)

Good question. I think Okami gets plenty of mentions from the hardcore audience, if not love from the UFC. In this space, let's give Brock Larson the push.

alfonso ortiz (amarillo, tx)

i'm ready to see you and company with Bellator again.

Jon Anik
  (2:31 PM)

Me too! Thanks.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

You need to get Buzzmaster to fix the format so your answers are in sync with the questions.

Jon Anik
  (2:31 PM)

Wasn't aware we were having an issue. I'm on it. Sorry about that. I just post and reply, ya know.

Chris (Haskell TX)

Is Anderson Silva ever going to get beat...... not that I want him to.... curious on what you thought?

Jon Anik
  (2:32 PM)

Not at 185, I don't think. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him retire before losing again.

CosmoSherry (Tampa FL)

Glad I got to meet you @ 100 Expo. You are a kind soul. Keep up the great work!

Jon Anik
  (2:32 PM)

Thanks! You, too. That's nice of you to say.

Brian (Milwaukee, WI)

Okami is a top 5 middleweight, and is always on the undercard!!!! No respect!

Matt (Twin Falls, ID)

Where does Vitor go after this? Also, is it just me, or is season 10 overshadowing his return? I thought most people would be more excited concering how he has looked the past while.

Jon Anik
  (2:33 PM)

He goes down to 185, where he belongs. And I agree with you, Matt, that Season 10 has somewhat overshadowed Vitor's return. But the hype will amp up after tonite.

Adam (Virginia)

Is Chuck done or do you think he will fight again?

Jon Anik
  (2:33 PM)

He will fight once more.

Frank Dux (Dallas, TX)

machida didn't get any ufc love for a loooong time!

Jon Anik
  (2:33 PM)

Great point, Frank.

Jon Anik
  (2:35 PM)

Alright, folks. Thanks for the extended love today. Gotta go bang out the MMA Live script. Hope you'll join us for the show tomorrow with Rashad Evans and Miguel Torres in studio. We will recap tonite's UFC Fight Night and also look back at the Season 10 debut. We'll also preview UFC 103. Until next week, enjoy the fights! Be well and be safe. -JA
