Jemele Hill
  (2:01 PM)

Good afternoon everyone! Hope you're enjoying this Friday, because somewhere in the world it's beer:30. Me -- I'm listening to Jay-Z's latest, "Blueprint 3." Eight tracks in and it's enjoyable. Let's get it in!

Miles (Indianapolis)

Can the Detroit Lions beat anybody this season?

Jemele Hill
  (2:03 PM)

Yep, the Cleveland Browns.

Dan (Cleveland, OH)

Buckeyes 24 - USC 20

Jemele Hill
  (2:04 PM)

I'm going Irish and USC

Walter (Boone, NC)

What rookie do you think everyone should watch these first few games of the season?

Jemele Hill
  (2:06 PM)

Assuming you mean the NFL, I'm most intrigued to see Mark Sanchez, who I thought was the best quarterback taken in the first round.

Josh (Boston)

With all the 80's movie remakes, I was wondering if they redid Sixteen Candles would the studio still have the Long Duc Dong character in 2009?? I say no because it would result in nationwide outrage and cries of racism. So would the remake cast the Donger as a whacky Eastern European exchange student played by Jamie Kennedy? Your thoughts please

Jemele Hill
  (2:07 PM)

What about the Asian guy in the Hangover? BTW, if they remake Sixteen Candles, I'll vomit. That is my favorite teenage angst movie ever and as far as I'm concerned, it can never-ever be redone. Signed,Bitter person who came of age in the 80s

Hayden (Logan, UT)

Who do you hate more, USC, or OSU?

Jemele Hill
  (2:08 PM)

Tee (detroit)

whats your favorite track on he BP3 so far?

Jemele Hill
  (2:10 PM)

Probably "On To The Next One," but I'm still wading through it.

Jeff (PA)

What do you think of Ocho reinventing himself via the media? He seems to be back to his 2006 self.

Jemele Hill
  (2:11 PM)

Think Ocho's gonna have a big year. He looks like he's in excellent shape and motivated to shed the label that he's a cancer. Also helps that Carson Palmer is motivated to prove he isn't a bust.

J (New York)

Better safety? Polamalu or Reed...both are ball hawks, Polamalu seems more like a heat seeking missile

Jemele Hill
  (2:13 PM)

This might be the toughest question of the day. Honestly, I can't decide. Both are just freaks. That INT Polamalu had last night was incredible. Gonna be a big loss for the Steelers, if it's true he's out 3-to-6 weeks.

Hayden (Logan, UT)

What are you drinking tonight?

Jemele Hill
  (2:14 PM)

Not sure. Any suggestions?

Roman Brown (Orlando, FL)

1. What's your favorite Micheal Jordan moment?2. Do you ever miss working for the Orlando Sentinel LOL!!3. Do you think Mike Vick will be the center of a Quaterback controversy in Philly seeing as how McNabb is already being critical of how the offense is being run when Vick is on the field?4.Do you think Brandon Marshall will be the pro-bowl type reciever has been the last 2 seasons now that the guy who was giving him the bulk of the receptions now plays in Chicago?5. Do ESPN writers read the comments left on articles written by them on this site?

Jemele Hill
  (2:19 PM)

You sure you got all your questions out? :)1. I'm from Detroit so my favorite Jordan moment, so of course my favorite moment was Mahorn slamming him to the ground every time he went to the hole!1a. In all seriousness, it's either the flu game, or when he went to the bucket and changed hands on that lay-up. Thought at the time it was the most incredible play I'd ever seen. 2. Call me naive, but I don't see a QB controversy in Philly. I'll admit I'm a McNabb apologist, but Vick, even at his greatest, was never as good as McNabb. Yes, McNabb will have one of those games and Philly fans are fickle, but I'd be surprised if there were any issues.3. Brandon Marshall has doomed himself to an unsuccessful season. He's such a talented receiver. Could be the most dominant in the NFL with his skill level. And while I don't deny any football player the right to get their money, he's been completely unprofessional. Hope he doesn't get rewarded for that, but the Broncos might not have any choice.4. I've read them on occasion, but I just don't have the time.

Dan (Denver)

My wife wants to make cosmopolitans tonight for drinks. What do you think about that?

Jemele Hill
  (2:19 PM)

I think someone is going to snatch your man-card if you drink that.

Jemele Hill
  (2:20 PM)

OK this "So Ambitious" track on Blueprint 3 is banging.

Jemele Hill
  (2:21 PM)

New rule: Give me a drink suggestion before you ask a question -- alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

E (Gary, IN) [via mobile]

Appreciate the work you put in for the worldwide leader. Stop wasting time and grab that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt II to hear some great music. BP3 is the pits. You'll like "Always Home" ft Kid Cudi. Best song on that disappointing LP. Oh yeah, Lions stink, and I'm a Bears fan. Cubs stink and you're a Tigers fan. We're even.

Jemele Hill
  (2:22 PM)

After BP3, I've got Cuban Linx II in the on deck circle. And I have NEVER been a Lions fan.

Larry (Albuquerque)

Is Skip "Help"less really as angry as he seems? I thought he was going to hit Chad Ochocinco earlier this week.

Jemele Hill
  (2:23 PM)

Skip is a very calm, shy individual. And no, I'm not making that up. Great guy to work with, and so dedicated.Him v. Chad Ochocinco was entertaining television, that's for sure.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Newcastle-best beer ever. What team that finished 8-8 or worse last season will make the playoffs?

Jemele Hill
  (2:24 PM)

Newcastle, eh? More of a Sam Adams-Grolsch (sp?) gal..but always willing to deviate outside of my comfort zone.My sleeper team this year is the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers might put up 5K this season. Ryan Grant is healthy. Defense is more experienced and fresher. They are a darkhorse Super Bowl pick...though I have the Eagles v. Patriots in the Super Bowl.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Seriously...don't knock Mike's Hard Lemonade until you try it. You'll thank me later. Quick Hitter: Jay Z or Run DMC?

Jemele Hill
  (2:27 PM)

Not a fan of Mike's Hard Lemonade or similar drinks...Can't compare Jay Z to DMC. DMC are pioneers. Jay Z one of the best ever from an individual standpoint. But if I'm stranded on an island, I'm taking Jay.

Jemele Hill
  (2:27 PM)

OK, now I'm on to Raekwon's Cuban Linx 2...track suggestions?

Walter (Boone, NC)

Do you think it was foolish then for the Lions to take Matthew Stafford over Mark Sanchez in the draft then?

Jemele Hill
  (2:29 PM)

I do. I wasn't sold on Stafford. Great arm. Not terribly impressed with his decision-making. Thought Sanchez was a bit more poised. Wasn't a great year to have the No. 1 pick. I know this much: Lions should never have given Stafford a guaranteed $41 mil. Absurd.

tammy (new york)

being a female i the sports industry is it hard getting respect from the guys? and how did you get into it

Jemele Hill
  (2:32 PM)

You just have to know what you're talking about. I've never had a problem with male athletes, or with most of my male colleagues. Sports fans...well, that's another matter. Sometimes when they don't like what you say, they play the "Why don't you write for Ladies Home Garden" card...not original. As for how I got into it...I've wanted to be a sports writer since I was in 10th grade. Was a big tomboy growing up. Played sports in high school. Been watching and reading about sports all my life. I also loved writing. So from high school on, this is what I prepared myself to do.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

We've got a 15 yard illegal procedure penatly on Roman Brown for excessive chat post. We don't need a paragraph. Repeat 1st down.

Jeff (Nj)

Captain and Ginger Ale..... Before we get all footballed out, who are your World Series Picks... I like Phillies vs Yankees..

Jemele Hill
  (2:33 PM)

Interesting...also Crown Royal

Jason (Bmore)

Stoli straight up! What do you think about all this "twittering" and do you ever think the NFL could ban players, or at least create a code of conduct of some sorts?

Jemele Hill
  (2:35 PM)

Stoli? Eh...Here's a good vodka suggestion: Zyr. It's Russian. Put it in the freezer and drink it ice cold. Unreal.I like that athletes are tweeting, but as we see from the Shawne Merriman vs. Tila Tequila situation, there's a downside. But that probably goes for any public figure. But I think they like being able to express themselves. I'm for it. Although, I don't think they should do it during games or in meetings, etc.

Mike Hunt (Indiana)

Who do you have in the Super Bowl this year?

Jemele Hill
  (2:36 PM)

Eagles vs. Patriots.Brady gets it done.

Rickey Henderson (Hall of Fame)

Rickey drinks greatness.

Jemele Hill
  (2:36 PM)

That is the funniest post today.

Rob (Planet Mars)

Have you started True Blood yet?

Jemele Hill
  (2:37 PM)

I haven't. I'm lame. But I have started watching, "Hung," which is surprisingly good.Speaking of which, what's everyone think of Entourage this season?

@colewagoner (Portland)

What about Simmon's new drink...the John Daly, an Arnold Palmer with a shot (or 3) of Absolut Citron

Jemele Hill
  (2:38 PM)

That has some interesting possibilities.

The Real J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Dunkin' Donuts coffee is good anytime. It seems like Terrelle Pryor has a bit of cockiness in him. Do you think this is a good thing or can it potentially be bad for him?

Jemele Hill
  (2:40 PM)

Amen on Dunkin Donuts coffee. Think Pryor is going to be pretty good. More advanced than Vince Young at this stage. Would like him to be more accurate, but his raw skills are incredible.

Fives (New Jersey)

Entourage has been horrible..and E's new gf this has a face that looks like my old Alien Head 3 foot Graffixx tube from college.

Jemele Hill
  (2:41 PM)

They've made E into such a punk. I think his new GF looks like a kid. There's an eerie child perversion thing going on there.

Marquis (Brooklyn)

Better track: On to the Next One or So Ambitous?

Jemele Hill
  (2:41 PM)

I call that a draw. Both of those are STRONG. But if I were working out, I'd definitely put On To The Next One on repeat.

The Real J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper hits the spot. Do you have any opinion on the whole Caster Semenya gender issue? If it is found that she has organs found in both sexes at no fault of her own, how should she be treated as an athlete?

Jemele Hill
  (2:45 PM)

What about a regular Dr. Pepper? This is one of most fascinating sports stories this year. What I'm curious about is how much her parents knew about her condition. If they did know, there is culpability there and they potentially put their child in an embarrassing situation. Although I am extremely sympathetic to Semenya's condition, there also an issue of fairness here.

Evan (Gainesville Fl)

The LeBomb James: pour packets of sugar on your hands, drop a shot of crown into red bull, drink it, throw the sugar in the air. As for Entourage, the past few episodes are getting better, nothing seemed to be happening at the beginning of the season but its starting to ge better.

Jemele Hill
  (2:45 PM)

Do I also walk away and not shake hands?C'mon that was too easy.

Craig (Norwich, CT)

Sam Adams Octoberfest is pretty good. If you don't like the Lions, what is your favorite NFL team?

Jemele Hill
  (2:48 PM)

You can never go wrong with Sam Adams. My favorite team is the 49ers. My mother went to junior college in San Francisco, and loved Joe Montana. She did love the Lions, but when you're a kid, winning impresses you more so I stuck with the 49ers.

The World's Most Interesting Baller (Cedar Rapids, IA)

You all "Draked Out" yet Jemelle? The man is on every radio possible with mix tape joints. I'm kinda over it already................

Jemele Hill
  (2:49 PM)

I can't get into him on any level.

The Real J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Jemele: Mayor Kilpatrick has been embarresment to the city of Detroit. Being a black male originally from Detroit, do you think his actions put a black eye on the city for the rest of the country to see? Thanks.

Jemele Hill
  (2:53 PM)

It's one of many things that have damaged Detroit's reputation, which wasn't great pre-Kwame. No matter what, Detroit is never going to be beloved by the masses, which is a shame. People act as if murder were invented in Detroit, even though crimes are committed at high volume in Chicago (where more children were murdered than anywhere else), L.A., etc. Anyway, I hope the city comes back.

Living in a basement till fantasy football is over (CLE)

Who is the suprise person on your fantasy team?

Jemele Hill
  (2:54 PM)

I'm hoping it's Chris Henry of the Bengals. He looked great in the preseason.

shygurlsofly (BBQ City, US (Memphis))

first i just wanted to say you are my favorite sports writer. i look up to you and enjoy your work. my question is do you think Allen Iverson can help us out in Memphis. I think if we start him at the point we could win some games. and the only thing i drink is water.

Jemele Hill
  (2:56 PM)

You're really going to hate the column that I have postin today on AI. It might already be up, in fact. No, I don't think he can help you as a basketball team. He'll help the box office, and the Grizz will be more of a national storyline. But I'm a former AI apologist and it wasn't until he played for the Pistons (my team) that I understood why he's been criticized throughout his career. Granted, when he was unguardable, it was easier to defend him. But he quit on the Pistons and he's not about winning. The fact that he'd rather start than win should tell you where he's at.

James (East Lansing)

Rasberry Wheat bear at Harpers in East Lansing is tough to beat. Prediction for MSU vs. CMU this weekend?

Jemele Hill
  (2:57 PM)

Nice...I'll be back for homecoming.MSU 38, CMU 10.

Mike (CT)

I like this seasons entourage, I like E's new girl, and I am not tweleve. Hawaiian Punch!!

Jemele Hill
  (2:58 PM)

I'll do you one better: Tahitian Treat.

Josh (Knoxville)

Cream Soda. Why won't the Spurs beat the Lakers this year? Aside from Shooting Guard (obviously), aren't the Spurs better at every position?

Jemele Hill
  (3:01 PM)

Cream underrated...Really hope it's Lakers v. Spurs in the WC Finals. The Spurs really upgraded their team. Richard Jefferson was an absolute steal. But the Lakers check-mated everyone with Ron Artest. Him and Kobe on the wing is defensively unfair. With the Lakers depth and experience, they are the favorites.

Mike (CT)

Wine Coolers! On a serious note though, Where do you think LBJ will be playin ball in 2010? Say NY???

Jemele Hill
  (3:02 PM)

Bartles N James...If LBJ is about ball, he'll be in Cleveland. The Cavs give him the best chance to win a title. If he's about billboards, marketing, etc...he'll be in NY.

Jemele Hill
  (3:03 PM)

Well, that's my time everyone. Sorry I didn't get to every question. You can always follow me on Twitter @jemelehill...Also, I'm on Facebook and I friend everyone!Enjoy this wonderful Friday.
