Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Ryan (NJ)

Hey BW, Orton and BMarsh werent on the same page in Cincy. So how long do you think itll take for it to happen?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It may take a few weeks. It was the first game action between these two players and they've pracitced very few times togehter. This is where Marshall's issues really hurt Dnever. He just wasn't prepared to help in Week 1.

kellyj (minnesota)

What would have to happen this year for brett farve to come back for another year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Would we really buy another retirmeent from him?

Jesse Bates (West Plains)

Bill, Big fan of your work. Check your blog every day. Why didn't the Chiefs claim Hank Baskett? He's a decent young receiver that could definitely help them out. They have the money, why not pull the trigger?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Thanks, Jesse ... I think the Cheifs are going to see what Bobby Wade and do before making another move on a receiver. Expect Wade to be a big part of the offense.

Kev Klutch tre' (Baltimore, MD)

This guy M.Crabtree is tarnishing his name this team let him miss "manditory" traning camp, he didn't play the pre-season, they still are offering him $16M in his pocket and he's still gonna hold out.... I don't believe he's worth more Y would any team pay more 4 a player who doesn't practice or play "give me $1M i'll practice play

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Yeah, I don't think Crabtree has many supporters these days.

Matt (Chicago)

How many carries for Moreno this week? After what AP did to this defense last week, I'm trying to justify a fantasy start.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

If he's healthy, I think we can see 12-15 carries from Moreno against Cleveland.

RaiderRice (Oakland)

Hey Bill, whats the latest on Schillens' return to the field? I want to see him paired with the rookie Murphy. I think we have a great WR combo in the making here. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I think Schilens is 2-3 weeks away from playing. Schilens and Murphy can be a nice pair for a long time. If DHB gets it together, then this will be a gret receiving crew for several years. But DHB has not been imprssive.

Todd Fulmer (KC)

Will Cassel be able to go to the slate and be effective playing this weekend?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think if Casel doesn't have a setback in his mobility, he will play against the Raiders.

Robert (Palmdale,CA)

raiders had a hell of a game on monday night even though they lost they improved leap and bounds over last year. i think this year that there defense will one of the better ones in the nfl. what do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

First, Robert, I don't think a tean can have a "hell of a game" unless they win. Remember, Oakaldn allowed a team to go 89 yards in the final two minutes to lose the game. That's not good. Yes, Oakland made some big plays and it looked improved, but until we see actual victories no one should get overly excited. Blown games aren't a good thing.

Bears Fans (Midwest)

Can we get Kyle Orton back...Pleeeeeaaaaassssseeeeee!!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Never thought I'd see this. Wow. Honeymoon is over with Mr. Jay, huh?

William (SD)

I was disappointed that Philip Rivers didn't look so good against a bad Raiders defense - will the Chargers go to the slate and allow Rivers to open it up a little more this weekend?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I think you are being hard on Rivers. He was awesome in the fourth quarter when the Chargers let loose and the Raiders defense wasn't bad Monday. Rivers won that game.

JT (Atlanta)

Mr. Bill, what's the latest in San Diego regarding LT? With this foot situation, does that give the Chargers a greater incentive to give Sproles more carries throughout the season, in order to ensure LT makes it through the season.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I think it's not overly serious for the long term. But Tomlinson may be hampered this weekend against the Ravens. So, we may see a lot of Darren Sproles. It will be inteesting to see how Sproles holds up agaisnt the Ravens' stout defense.

Brett (LA)

Broncos D: Like what you see?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

How can you not? It didn't give up any points until the final minute. It as much improved. Coordinator Mike Nolan is doing a nice job.

Younger78 (Cali)

What do you expect from Eddie Royal this year. I thought that he would be the one constant for the offense and that he was going to be used like Wes Welker. I know it's only one game but I expected Royal to get more short looks. Please provide your insight.

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

It will happen. Royal is a fantastic player and coach Josh McDnailes will use him a lot. Stay patient with this one.

Vinnie (Bronx)

Who do you like in the Raiders-Chiefs game Sunday and do you smell an upset in San Diego with all the injuries the Chargers have? I'll assume Denver beats Cleveland.

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Just guesisng here folks, don't smoke me (I know you will).I like Oakland in KC. I like the Chargers (barely) over Baltimore and I think Denver should edge the Browns.

Gino (KC)

I love arrowhead. Thanks for the props. Can WE win this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Arrowhead is a treat, man. Love it .. as for the Chiefs winning this year. Sure ... a couple of times.

DStuck (Missouri)

Why do people act surprised about Jay Cutler's performance Sunday night? Look like typical Cutler to me, the Bears receivers just haven't figured out how to bail him out 5 times a game.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Yeha but that was an all-timer.

Will J (Portland, OR)

Bill do you think the Chargers should place Sproles at the top of the depth chart for the rest of the year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

Probably not. He will wear down if he gets too many carries. This backfield is most effective when LT is the lead guy and Sproles is a change-of-pace player.

Brandon Stokely (Denver)

I'm on a pace for 1392 yards...on 16 catches. I can maintain this, right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Got to be honest. I don't like your chances, Stoke.

Ben (LA LA land)

Which of the Chargers OL men probably wont play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

It doesn't look like it center Nick Hardwick will play because of an ankle. He is a terifiic player and that could hurt against the Ravens' big, nasty line.

Mike (Encinitas, CA)

What's up with Shawne Merriman? The guy is tough as nails, but he does not seem anywhere close to healthy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I don't think he's 100 percent. But he'll get there.

Mike (Bethesda, MD)

Hey Bill, love the Blog!! Do you think LJ will lose his job to J.Charles sometime during the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

If Johnson doesn't get going, yes, this is a possibility.

Raider Fan (Colorado)

What caused Russell's poor play against San Diego? Nerves? San Diego's D? He didn't look like this in preseason. Was it an abberaton or should we expect more of this?

Dan (Denver)

I have not seen much out of Robert Ayers so far. Please tell me he is not the next Moss or Crowder? What do you think of Denver's first round pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Gives Ayers time. He'll be fine.

Noel (CA)

Watching Monday Night Football, I wondered why it took so long for the Raiders to start Darren McFadden? Hopefully, the McFadden-Bush duo doesn't lose touches when Fargas comes back.

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

McFadden and Bush were great in the first quarter and then the Chargers made adjustments. But I really like that tandem.

Ryan (Astoria, NY)

Hey Bill - was Monday's early game an example of the Bills showing promise or the Patriots being sluggish?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Just like in the San Diego-Oakland game. A little of both.

John (Watertown, NY)

What are the chances DHB slips down to number 3 receiver once Schillens gets back? Murphy looks like the real deal!

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

If Murphy keeps catching them and DHB keeps dropping them, I think it will happen.

Justin (KC)

Cassell is the starter...who gets cutBrodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen, Matt Gutierez

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

I'm interested to see that, too, Justin. Either Thigpen or Matt G.

John (Watertown, NY)

I saw that Walker had a chance of being activated this week. How soon until he hits the feild and do you think he'll be a factor this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Yes, is expected to play thsi weekend. He can be a factor if he can show seperation in games, which has been a problem in practice.

Pete (Reno, NV)

What happened to the Chargers pass rush?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Merriman isn't at full strength yet. I'd like to see Larry English unleashed.

ILYA (BROOKLYN, NY)

Giants or Cowboys?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Giants.

Billy T. (Santa Cruz, CA)

How are the Chargers planning on blocking Haloti Ngata or Terrell Suggs on Sunday? That seems like a big problem.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Yes, it can be a big problem. It could be a proble, that costs San Dieog the game. The Chargers have to find a way to protect Philip Rivers depsite all of their offensive line injuries.

Lance (Seattle)

Hey B Dubs,I love going to different stadiums, but also like to hear about the food. Maybe you could do a Food vs Williamson segment from each stadium?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

That would be a blowout, Lance.

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

It's difficult to say one guy can transform a defense by himself, but Seymour did it Monday despite not practicing with his new teammates. It was amazing. it should only get better as the season wears on.

Rex Hughes (Denver)

Giants or Dodgers? Good luck.

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

That loss to the Rockies last night killed me.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

What happened to Denver's offense? Mostly down due to Orton's finger, or lack of cohesion, or just a good Cincinnati defense?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think it was cohesion. But Orton has to find a way to get it going.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think it was cohesion. But Orton has to find a way to get it going.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think it was cohesion. But Orton has to find a way to get it going.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Thanks everyone. It was a great hour. Enjoy Week 2 and we'll tlak next Thursday.
