Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:55 PM)

Hello everyone. Good Friday to you. Let's get started.

Joseph Addai (Indianapolis) [via mobile]

I have a great personality. It's the only reason why I'm still the starting RB for the Colts.

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:56 PM)

Yeah, the way Donald Brown averaged a half yard more than you on Sunday really showed he should be getting all the carries and you should be benched. And if Bill Polian factors anything into his evaluations, personality certainly ranks first. That's what Marvin Harrison was such a stalwart.

Casey (Atlanta, GA)

Hey PK! Which match up do you like the most, A. Johnson @ TEN, B. Marshall against CLE, or L. Murphy @ KC?!

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:57 PM)

You don't draft Andre Johnson in the top 20 to sit him. Ever. At least in my fantasy thinking.

Jason (Paris TN)

So Paul, How much longer do you see VY being a Titan? When do we start trying to work a deal on a new QB? Kerry cant be the man for to many more seasons!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:58 PM)

Dude, they're heading into Week Two. They don't worry about next year's quarterback this year.

Kayne West (Anywhere USA)

I am the biggest idiot of all times.....also.... I thought the Titans did pretty good against the Steelers last week even though they lost. I think it was about as tough an environment as could be to play in for the Titans. Do you agree with either one of these statements?

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:59 PM)

I'm the only person in America who didn't see what you did, but I heard it was awful.Titans did a lot wrong and still went to OT. I came out of that game thinking they are even better than I thought.

Hal (Madrid, Spain)

Hi Paul, it was a nice surprise to see the Titans passing so much in week 1. Do you think we'll see a lot more of it, or was it just a reaction to Pittsburgh's mean run defense?

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:59 PM)

Little of both. But more Steelers' run defense.

Dale (nashville,tn)

Over/under. Jared Cook /Titans will play 15 snaps.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:00 PM)

Over.

Shaun (Crossville, TN)

I saw the column that you had a link to about the Titan's power ranking. Most people seem pretty high on them, except for Wickersham. (He seems to be a joke.) Do you see a let down Sunday? I still have complete respect for the Texans, and I think last week was a fluke. Or will the Titans take care of business and not let this one slip through their fingers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:00 PM)

I don't see a Titans' let down, no.

Kevin (OH)

what rookie are you looking forward to seeing more of this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:01 PM)

Looking forward to seeing Brian Cushing Sunday. Also curious about Moreno in Denver.

Josh (bluffton, sc)

With Gonzo down for a while how much will Hank Baskett be able to contribute to our Offense, and how soon will we see that contribution?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:01 PM)

I think this week it'll be minimal. He'll be a situational guy, maybe focused on red zone.In time he can build a bigger role depending on how he's doing and how the other guys are doing.

OtisMyMan (Nashville, TN)

Who is more likely to be on the Titans next season, Bo Scaife or Keith Bulluck? I know the Titans do not have any problems letting long time superstars go, (read Steve McNair and Eddie George), but I hope they resign Bulluck.Bonus Question: Does Florida cover tomorrow - 27.5 ptsLove the blog--Thanks

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:03 PM)

If there is no cap, Scaife will only be a restricted free agent, so he'll be back if they want him.If there is no cap, they can keep him with a franchise tag -- they'll have two. They are high on McRath, they could view him as KB's replacement.

AC (JAX)

How successful do you think the Jags will be from a base 3-4?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:03 PM)

I'm not yet willing to say that's their base D. I think they will be hybrid, and need to be.

Frank Wycheck (Nashville)

Who has the easiest job... me or Jim Sorgi?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:04 PM)

Sorgi is one of the few that has it easier than you.

trevor (baltimore)

did the colts look weak last sunday or did the jags look strong? i know the colts won, but seriously, only by 2 vs jacksonville?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:05 PM)

Little of both. Margin of victory means nothing. One team is 1-0, one is 0-1. No asterisk for style points.

Todd (Indy)

If Baskett can be a key contributor to the Colts offense while Gonzo is out would that mean that A) Garcon and/or Collie will be fighting to keep their roster spot, B) Baskett is released regardless, C) 5 WRs stay on the roster and all compete again in next year's training camp, or D) [insert another outcome]?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:05 PM)

They have a long time to sort all that out and will have a lot of play to evaluate when the time comes to decide.

Tyler (Jackson, Tn)

Is this years Titans team comparable to last years? At first I thought so but after last week I'm not so sure.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:06 PM)

Last week shouldn't make you feel worse about this team. It should make you feel better.

Tim Graham (AFC East)

Here you are as an opening act again. I rule the wordl!

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:07 PM)

You're like DiCaprio hanging out the front off the Titanic. What happened to that character?

Allen (Houston)

Say texans go 0-5. Kubiak fired midseason?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:07 PM)

No.

Denny (Bloomington, Indiana)

If Bob Sanders doesn't have a stellar year for the Colts when he returns from injury what are the odds that the Colts let him go after this season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:08 PM)

Well they could be facing free agency for Bethea, so I don't think it will be so simple.

Dawson (Yuma)

Good afternoon! Do you think that anyone on the the Texans offense is worth starting this Sunday from a fantasty stand point. Thanks for your time.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:09 PM)

I don't see how, if you draft AJ or Slaton in the top 15 or 20 you'd convince yourself to sit him.Can they be shut down? Sure. Will you be miserable if they have a big day? Yes, and you'd deserve such a fate.

Denny (Bloomington, Indiana)

How much playing time do you see Fili Moala getting in the Colts MNF? Also with the return of Ed Johnson how will the Colts D hold up against the Fins rushing attack?

Stuart (Virgina)

Huge Titans fan. Even bigger Kuharsky fan! Why haven't the Titans looked into getting a competent 3rd/4th corner to help out until Mouton starts familiarizing himself with the NFL? Fuller is nice in the nickel, but our secondary looked tired against Pitt after the third quarter. We need more rotation!!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:13 PM)

Stuart my man!I don't think they should be rotating starting corners out. Get off the field on third down, how about.Isn't it possible they prefer Mouton to whatever veteran is out there?

Tim Tebow (Gainesville, FL)

Paul, I just want all the Jaguar fans to know that if they draft me they will not see anyone work harder and demand more from their team than me.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:14 PM)

This is going to be such a fun and non-repetitive topic from now til April, don't you think?

Chris M. (Austin, TX)

Texans' o-line looked horrible against a Jets front seven missing two starters and couldn't seem to keep the heat off Schaub or open any holes for Slaton. We still assuming they'll be fine and that Slaton will run for another c-note against the Titans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:15 PM)

I'm not assuming a C-note for anyone against the Titans on the ground right now.I do think the Texans line is a lot better than it played in the Jets game.

Razel (Texas)

Paul love your blog!1 Can you go into more detail on Bironas please? I mean over 4 years he's kinda been our offense and if he's having a slump it might hurt our Super Bowl Run

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:16 PM)

Seems like the ball is coming out low to me. I think they like to do all they can to keep his confidence up.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:16 PM)

Johnson 15 carries. White eight carries.Yeah, they are overusing that guy big-time.

Jason (Nashville)

Is David Stewart hurt more than they are saying or was it game one mistakes with the penalties?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:17 PM)

He's not on the injury report and I don't see a correlation between injuries and penalties.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Put this on your FB page, hoping to get an answer here. I'm glass half empty PK. Ketchman's comments didn't sit well. What symptoms would indicate Jacksonville may be losing its team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:20 PM)

A) A willingness by Weaver to sell. I don't see it. Isn't it possible he's not in it to rake in the bucks, that he's a real citizen of that town who could try to see it through no?B) A buyer. Seen any snooping around? In this economy how many people are looking to spend 100s of millions?I think they have some time to right the ship, football-wise. If they do and people don't respond, then there is a long-term issue.

Marvin Harrison (Some Bar in Philly)

Gonzo went down, Bears dont have any good recievers, Eli has no weapons, and so on... and i still havent had a single phone call from any team in the league, should i start planning my retirement press conferense?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:21 PM)

Or lower your price. That wouldn't have helped you in Indy, it might have help you elsewhere. And we don't know if your phone has been quiet or not.

JB (TX)

True or False: Next time you meet w/your bosses in Bristol "Pay Me" will be written on your loafers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:22 PM)

False.

Violeta ( Mexico)

Do you think Basket is a better adition than Harrison for the Colts ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:22 PM)

Yes.

Thomas Hoesel (Htown)

Hey Paul! I am a Texans fan that is pretty worried about our season now!! In your opinion our we that bad!! We looked real soft!! What are your opinons can we turn it around???

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:23 PM)

After this week, schedule lightens up some. Jax, Oak, @Arz, @Cin, SF, @Buf....I think Houston could win five of those. Could. That would be 5-3. You'd take that, no?

MJ (Boston)

did you see the Jets/Titans game? Did Revis cover Andre Johsnon, or was Johnson doubled all game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:24 PM)

I don't know how much they doubled. I think Revis was on him most of the time and he got rave reviews.

Charles (IN)

What do you expect from the game between Colts and Fins

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:24 PM)

I expect Miami to continue to show us it's not that good.

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis)

I just want to remind everybody how good i am now that im the guy in Indy!

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:24 PM)

You're excellent.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Is the Florida\Tennessee game so meaningless that Tebow can miss practice to join the AFC South chat?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:25 PM)

Why would the Gators be practicing?

Ben (Tallahassee)

I always hear commentators talking about how Dallas Clark is more of a receiver than a tight end. Do you think there is any chance the Colts split him out wide on a regular basis and have one of the other up and coming tight ends fill in his roles until Gonzo gets healthy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:26 PM)

They have said they plan on using Clark and Jacob Tamme split wide more to help while AG is out. It doesn't make them receivers, however.

Todd (Indy)

I think the Colts organization have mastered ticket sales: Open up the roof creating shadows so dark that even the viewers with a big-screen HDTV can't see whats going on and forcing them to buy a ticket! You see that game?!?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:27 PM)

I was there, but I wrote a bit this week about the TV issue. Colts don't have ticket troubles. Perhaps they can loan the lighting issue to the Jags?

AC (JAX)

Re: Tebow. I'm pretty ambivalent about this whole thing. Is any pub that distracts from ticket issues *really* good pub for my team? I'm thinking no, yet we're getting talked about.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:28 PM)

I think they think that helps ticket issues -- as in, "Oh my God, Tebow will be here next year, I have to get my seat now to be in position to worship."

JB (TX)

On the bright side, you'll be covering the LA Jaguars in a couple of years, gotta be a better road trip that J-Ville, huh?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:29 PM)

That's a lot of time zones.

Peyton Manning ((Indianapolis))

I know my contract extension will be huge but I kind of want to win another Super Bowl and I get enough money from my endorsements. You think I should structure my contract to bring in or keep some talent around me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:29 PM)

I don't think your numbers will be so big that the Colts can't afford anyone else. And while you play, you should earn all you can, just like everyone else. You have a charity, it's not the Colts.

Dunta Robinson (Houston (for now))

Will I be gone soon? Traded or released?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:30 PM)

No one trade for a guy who costs $10 million this year and is not under contract next year. And you're not getting released, as that money is guaranteed and you're the best corner on the team.

Brandon (Columbus)

How do you see TEN splitting up the WR reps now that Nate Washington is getting healthier?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:32 PM)

Gage and Washington on the field a lot, Britt less mostly as the No. 3 or when they need a rest.

Caleb Followill (Nashville)

Hey Paul Big Fan here... wich GM in the AFC South feels more happy about his first round pick after week 1, and wich one is starting to doubt he made the right choice?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:33 PM)

Dude, I know this isn't you. There is no way you are up yet at this hour.I don't think any smart GM starts to panic about a pick after one week.Monroe dealt with the toughest matchup, but he's going to be good. I think they are all going to be good. How about some tickets for the Sommett show?

Thomas (Htown)

I was watching the AFC Playbook yesterday! They were showing the constant mistakes made by the Texans D!! How can a pro team be that unprepared to play the first game of the season???

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:34 PM)

It's a completely reasonable question.

Razel (Texas)

AFter all the hype with Nate Washington, I was kinda let down by his peformance last thursday, was it because they were limiting him or is he still banged up? Thx Paul you da MAN!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:35 PM)

He didn't play a full load coming off a hamstring injury.People, can we settle down on jumping to conclusions after one game?

Spencer Murray (Madison, FL (moved from Indy))

With Gonzalez and Sanders out....how do you think the Colts will keep rolling until one of the two heal up enough to play. For the past few years Sanders has been the glue of the defense and Gonzalez has stepped up and taken Wayne's old spot.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:36 PM)

The defense has been just fine in a lot of games without Sanders, including last week's.We'll have to see if people can take Wayne away and force them to show us how good the other guys can be.

Gary Kubiak (Houston)

Hey Paul, who do you think will score more points for me this week? my offense or defense?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:36 PM)

For your sake I hope it's your offense, and by a wide margin.

Chris M. (Austin, TX)

No question, just wanna say thanks for taking the time to answer all our questions. I know it's part of your gig, but I also know that we fans get repetitive, reactionary, and annoying with our questions. Some pro chatters get really cranky with us. Thanks for being a good sport about it and sharing your time and insight.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:37 PM)

Very nice of you to say, Chris, thanks.Just listened to Colin Cowherd from Austin and was wishing I was there for lunch!

Charles (Dayton, Ohio)

Good Afternoon PaulPaul do you think Jacksonville is serious about bringing in Tebow next year. And if so do you see him being a starter?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:38 PM)

A lot of it is out of their control. We don't know the draft order or how other teams will feel about him or what pick Jax will deem him worthy of.All Weaver said was it would have to be something they consider. Which is it.

Mark Sanchez (NYC)

Is it not just possible that I'm awesome? Maybe the Texans D isn't that bad?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:38 PM)

It certainly wasn't a good matchup. And rookie QBs are all the rage these days.

Chris Brown (Houston)

You think that I'll be healthy by the end of the 4th quarter...if I am is that because Kyle won't put me in the game? I really wanna go after my old team. I know I haven't said as much but PK you can read my mind.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:39 PM)

I wish you well. If you stay healthy and they can get Slaton going, you can be a great changeup. It could be a CJ/LenDale sort of deal.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

I don't care what Vince's problems on the field are, class move with McNair's kids. I can't imaging this was a PR stunt. Can we read this as VY maturing a bit or just someone being a good person?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:40 PM)

He's been a good guy who does good things off the field from the start.

Darrell (Nashville)

What are your impressions so far on Cecil as the Titans D coordinator? I realize it's only week 2 but the lack of (successful) adjustments at the end of the Steelers game has me a little worried.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:41 PM)

I understand the conversation. But I can not remember one Schwartz game after which we debated a non-blitz this long. They aren't a big blitzing team. Take beefs about that to Cecil's boss, I think. My one complaint is that DBs were too far off when Pittsburgh got in a rhythm throwing short stuff.

Kevin (Louisiana)

It a 72 percent chance that Schaub doesn't finish the game a bit too high?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:42 PM)

Too high. Albert's gone, remember. 14.4 percent, I say.

JB (TX)

I for one appreciate your occaisonal crankiness, it's part of your charm. Anyway, does that decent showing from Britt last wk kill all the Matt Jones rumors? Also, I read Mouton will be returning punts this wk, is that an audition? Or is the job his? Love Cortland but he had a ton of issues back there last wk

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:43 PM)

If Mouton is good, the job is him.I don't like having a top guy from offense or defense back there at all.Matt Jones isn't showing up now unless someone gets hurt, I'd say.

Matt Jones (Whereabouts UNKNOWN)

Who is a bigger disappointment........myself or Amobi Okoye??

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:43 PM)

Anyone have a coin?Abombi still has time. So do you if you could find a team.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Paul, tell me what I'm missing. WW was asked if they'd consider drafting TT and he said yes. Where is the story? He didn't say they had him targeted at any round or spot in the draft. That this is even a story is more annoying than the love and hate rhetoric we'll hear for the rest of the season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:44 PM)

Expressing any degree of interest is a story. And he expanded a bit.

Charlie Johnson (Indiana)

What is the deal with Tony Hugo, wasnt he supposed to get his old job back anytime now?? should i be worried?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:45 PM)

I'd be more worried about Joey Porter than Tony Ugoh.Put the Colts down for a LT in the 2010 draft.

J.P. (Knoxville)

Paul, two things. 1. Does Keglar or Mcgrath get Thorntons PT if he can't go this weekend? 2. Do you buy the Eric Berry top five pick talk?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:47 PM)

I would expect Thornton to at least play in base and leave Tully on in nickel. I think it'd be McRath if Thornton couldn't play.

Wayne Weaver (Jax)

What kind of message am I sending to my team when I'm already talking about next years draft pick? Did I mention Tebow just to get people excited in Jags football again?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:47 PM)

I wondered the same thing in a blog entry I am sure you enjoyed and bookmarked. But maybe it fits into the any-interest-is-good-interest file?

Keith (Brentwood, TN)

Something I haven't heard too much but just looking ahead, how much longer do you think the Titans will keep Hentrich and will they draft a replacement or pick up a free agent? His age is really showing and that SHANK last week hurt

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:49 PM)

It was a bad punt, but it didn't actually hurt. Ward wound up fumbling the ensuing possession away. He's an issue they have to monitor.

Mike (Philly)

What do you expect out Hank Basket? Productive or not? Number 3 reciever, any chance of becoming more than that??

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:49 PM)

Please scroll down for some Hank answers.

Tony Dungy (Still in Indy)

I tell you one thing Paul, I will be highly disappointed in Coach Caldwell if we dont see more Donald Brown than Joseph Addai in the near future!

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:50 PM)

What looked so much better about Brown than Addai? He had the advantage of being in when the Jags foolishly went to seven DBs. Addai would have run well against that too, I assure you.

Razel (Texas)

Is Lendale Slimmer and faster a good thing ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:51 PM)

Yes. He was never a drag the pile guy. He's a vision and feed guy, and both benefit from him being lighter.

Dunta Robinson (Location: Trying to get paid)

Who made a bigger fool out of their self this week, me or Kanye West?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:52 PM)

Tough to compete with Mr. West. Lucky for you only second-place is available.

trevor (baltimore)

where can i get a smash and dash t-shirt?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:52 PM)

Saw some at the Nashville airport recently. Better hurry, they're hardly a hit item with CJ no longer pumping the cause.

Brian Fullford (Jacksonville, FL)

Your opinion on the Jags losing Reggie Hayward. One of the few good moves of the Shack Harris administration and the only true pass rush threat. Waiving James Wyche and activating Jeremy Navarre show a commitment to the youth movement but there simply is no way the Jags defense can sustain any type of QB pressure without Hayward. Horrible beginning.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:53 PM)

I don't know how much pressure they were going to sustain WITH him. Hurts for sure.

Young/Leinart/Culter ('06 Draft)

2 of us are backups, one of us is a below .500 turnover machine who's already been traded. What's the possibility there were no winners here?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:54 PM)

Cutler gets more time since he's got that cannon and a decent team. But possible, yes.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Is Gage starting to become a no. 1 in this league? Two consecutive solid games against very good defenses... also had a good game against the Steelers in wk 16 of last year.. is this for real or just matchups in his favor?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:54 PM)

He's never going to be a big downfield threat brand of No. 1, and that's what people mean.He can be very good at what they ask him to do.

Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis ((Sacktown))

Which one of us will make the probowl this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:55 PM)

Why not both again?

SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)

Paul, do you or any of the other division followers ever get into debates about matchups between teams for each others division? All in fun of course.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:56 PM)

It suggests I'd be supporting AFC South against, let's say AFC East, in light of Colts-Miami. And what if I prefer Miami? (I don't.)

Tom (Nashville)

Paul, dont know if you have already answered this or not but will Mouton be the third corner behind Finnegan and Harper?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:57 PM)

Yes. The third outside corner and the second option behind Fuller in the slot too.

Fletch (Nashville)

Paul, the kicking game seems to be in disarray. Did the Titans work on that this week? I'm concerned that having Finnegan return punts will hurt his confidence and focus at the corner.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:58 PM)

They work on it every week. I don't see them practice, however.Mouton will return punts.

Emma (Fort Wayne, IN)

Hey Paul, first time chatting (it's fun)....Colts kicking game in jeopardy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:59 PM)

Welcome Emma.I wouldn't say that, no. You don't want Vinatieri missing, of course. McAfee punted OK and will be the kickoff guy now.

Finley (via mobile)

Dude, I've been trying to get a comment in and you keep ignoring me. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark. I think we should move to Florida.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:00 PM)

You're going to have to shape it up mister. The puppy years are ending.Just kidding. You're my boy, Fin.You'd hate Florida. Too hot. I knew we shouldn't have let you watch Marley

Kevin (Louisiana)

Did the Titans make a mistake in cuttting the preseason hero punter? Hendrich was able to make a bad snap look better but he punting was not great... even not counting the shank at the end of the game..

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Did you miss the jumping to conclusions flag?Even with the shank, Hentrich averaged 44.6 yards and put two of five inside the 20.He shown signs of slipping but he's not done yet. We'll have to monitor him.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

OK folks, that was quick. Thanks for being flexible with the reschedule.Should be back to our regular Thursday at 3 next week.Enjoy the games!
