Eric Karabell
  (3:01 PM)

Hello all and welcome to another fantasy football chat session... Three weeks down, 14 to go... any questions?

Mike (Chicago)

Is this the week I have to give in and start Eli over the new cautious Romo?

Eric Karabell
  (3:03 PM)

Well, I don't think we should assume either of these guys are safe top-10 QBs every week. This week Eli has the really nice matchup, so I ranked him a spot better. And by the way, don't assume Romo is cautious every week. The Broncos have 5 INTs and have allowed no TD passes... Romo's getting picked...

Derrick (FL)

Hey EK! PPR League. Which side of the trade do like better with DeSean Jackson for Hines Ward and L. McCoy?

Eric Karabell
  (3:06 PM)

I regard Jackson and Ward as top-20 receivers at this point, at the back end of the top-20, so getting McCoy thrown in is probably enough to make the Ward side better. I do not expect Jackson to finish the season a top-5 wide receiver, so it's not a bad idea to sell high. But I'd think you could get more for Jackson...

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Who has the better matchup this week: Kevin Walter against OAK or Mario Manningham against KC?

Eric Karabell
  (3:07 PM)

Well, Manningham has the better matchup... I ranked them 16th and 18th, so I like them both. Manningham is expected to do a lot this week, and if he doesn't, fickle fans will change their mind about him...

Kyle (Lansing, MI)

Is Calvin's breakout game this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:08 PM)

Certainly Calvin Johnson owners expected more, but he's too good to not score often, and Stafford isn't doing a bad job. I say Calvin scores this week.

Ben (Ca)

I know you guys are really big on Vincent Jackson but do you see him getting shut down against Pit this week like Ochocinco was?

Eric Karabell
  (3:09 PM)

I don't think Ochocinco was shut down, as he did catch 5 passes for 54 yards and was close on a few plays to getting a touchdown. The Steelers are still good, but sans Polamalu they aren't the same. I ranked V.Jax seventh, so I obviously believe...

Steve (NY)

Do you think Jerricho Cotchery is taking a step forward to a high end WR2? He gets the extra attention and Sanchez is still finding him. It looks A LOT like Ryan and Roddy White last year.

Eric Karabell
  (3:11 PM)

You know, that sounds like a future blog idea! Good one! I think Cotchery is making strides and on occasion I'd use him as a WR2, but I don't think he's automatically in the top 15 each week. Plus, White had broken out in Atlanta already. But it wouldn't shock me if Cotchery has a really big season...

Tom (Villanova)

Eric, thanks to your high expectations, I kept Pierre Thomas on my roster and started him last week helping me win. Holding a player through injury is always tough, but what to you think of Thomas' teammate Lance Moore? Is he going be a big part of the offense when he comes back just like Pierre Thomas.

Eric Karabell
  (3:12 PM)

Well, people are just a bit too reactive on a week to week basis and need to remember the big picture. There are 13 or 14 regular season weeks, and Thomas is still very good. He just missed a pair of games. With Moore I don't see the same upside, and he's not so special that the Saints need to carve out significant targets for him when he's back. I keep him if I don't need the roster spot.

Matt Karp (Milwaukee, WI)

I want Larry Fritz bad!! The players i can trade are: Harvin, R. White, S. Holmes, Sproles, F. Taylor. What do you think it would take to get em.

Eric Karabell
  (3:14 PM)

Well, I would be careful not to overpay here. I wrote in a Tuesday blog that Fitzgerald probably isn't a top-5 WR as long as Warner keeps targeting his three WRs relatively the same. Fitz is still very good, but I'd hold on to White and probably Holmes. And I have no idea what the Fitz owner needs in return. It might have been his first-round pick, so chances are you'd need to overpay.

Lon (Dallas)

Having a tough 0-3 start and need a W badly. Pierre Thomas or Glen Coffee to be my RB2?

Eric Karabell
  (3:15 PM)

Well, you can see in my rankings that I'm very cautious on Coffee. I realize he's starting, but he hasn't proven anything in a regular season game, so how can he be a top-10 RB, even in a good matchup? I guess I'm conservative here. I'll be playing Thomas. We know what he's capable of.

Kirk (Dallas)

You ranked AJ the #1 WR this week whereas Barry put him at #12. What do you know that he doesn't? Should we look forward to this topic in this weeks Called Out?

Eric Karabell
  (3:16 PM)

Tune in tomorrow to see! I have no idea what others are thinking, but it is interesting when there is such a difference of opinion. Andre Johnson looks pretty safe to me, arguably the best WR in the game. Matthew placed Vincent Jax first, the same fella we have first in projections. Neither of us are wrong...yet

Bob (Detroit)

EK, in a ppr league would you drop A. Bryant for L. Moore?

Eric Karabell
  (3:18 PM)

No. I'm not cutting Antonio Bryant yet. Don't care that he's done nothing, but he's very talented and there certainly is a chance Josh Johnson does well. Let's wait longer.

Steve (NY)

Eric, it seems you guys are giving McFadden ONE more chance to shine against Houston based on the ranks. If he underwhelms again, is it time to give up hope?

Eric Karabell
  (3:19 PM)

Not give up hope, but I certainly have altered my thinking a bit. It is a long season, so McFadden could easily be a monster at any time, but I think the horrid play of his QB - which I think few expected - is hurting him. Russell has been unplayable in real life. It's time to give up on him!

Marc (Malden, MA)

Since you recently wrote about TO, you're the only I want to ask. Would you trade Welker for TO?

Eric Karabell
  (3:21 PM)

Ha! I think some people misinterpreted my Terrell Owens blog. I ranked T.O. 20 this week, so I think he's worth using in most leagues. Some weeks he might be 15, others 30. I don't know. But the point was he isn't an automatic play ... and this situation is on the verge of getting ugly. Anyway, with Welker's knee issue potentially lingering, yes I probably would make that deal. If Welker were healthy, no I would not.

Greg (Baltimore)

In the battle of my roster disappointments, what happens first in a game: Beanie Wells getting 10 carries or Housh getting 10 catches

Eric Karabell
  (3:24 PM)

Well, I think both are likely to happen soon. Beanie's problem is the obvious one-sided playcalling. Why not run on the awful Indy run defense? Makes no sense to throw 52 times against them! Anyway, I think Housh is more relevant right now, but he looks like he's injured to me.

Mike (Richmond)

Do you think Romo against the Broncos or roll the die with Favre on Monday Night Football?

Eric Karabell
  (3:26 PM)

I ranked Romo a bit better, so I would go with him. Just because Favre wants to make a statement against his former team doesn't mean he gets to throw 35 times. I do think Favre is a decent play though.

Edge (Arizona)

Braylon or Manningham?

Eric Karabell
  (3:29 PM)

Amazing that we can even entertain that question and the answer is in doubt. But I picked Manningham this week. Great matchup. Of course, had I known Derek Anderson was the QB - can't believe they went back to him - then Braylon would have made my top-15 or so. Anderson has a strong arm, throws the ball downfield...

Scott (Chicago)

Am I the only on salivating over Slaton getting to face OAK 32nd ranked run D? Looks like a good match up, your thoughts?

Eric Karabell
  (3:30 PM)

We project more than 100 yards for Slaton, so I don't think you're the only one salivating! This is the week Slaton has to perform well...

Ben (Ca)

What kind of week do you see flacco having this week against NE? I hope it's not like the week M ryan had. And when McNabb comes back to you see him being more productive than Flacco?

Eric Karabell
  (3:32 PM)

Ryan didn't have an easy time at Foxborough, and I don't think Flacco is top-10 play, but he's close. The problem with evaluating Ryan's game is if he threw 1 touchdown pass, it changes everything. And he didn't. But he came close. That small margin gets so scrutinized... if it's a 13-point day, nobody's upset. And football isn't like that. If you watch them play, you can see how misleading the stats are... Flacco will be fine this week. I'd still rather have McNabb starting in Week 5 though.

Nick (NJ)

Hi Eric- normally, Kevin Smith is my #2 RB, but it looks like he's out. My other options are M. Lynch and Lendale. Do I wait a week on Lynch as he's "weaned" back in and hope Lendale scores vs. Jax?

Eric Karabell
  (3:34 PM)

Actually, three of the four rankers think Smith is playing, and had him in the 20 range. It's just too early to know for sure. I'd play Lynch if Smith is out. Rumor is the Bills will split the touches between Lynch and Fred Jax... that's still better than what LenDale deals with.

Leah (Canada)

How does Greg Jennings look this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:34 PM)

All four rankers had him in the top 7. We believe!

Jeff (CT)

What are your thoughts on Braylon Edwards, now that the Browns are a complete disaster (they thought they had TWO QBs...turns out they don't have ANY QBs)? Would it make sense to drop him for the likes of Sims-Walker, Stokley, Gage, Johnnie Knox or Pierre Garcon?

Eric Karabell
  (3:35 PM)

With Derek Anderson at QB, now is the time to buy low on Braylon... more on that in a blog this week. But I also like Sims-Walker. He's legit.

Ben (ca)

where is steve smith a la NYG in the new rankings

Eric Karabell
  (3:35 PM)

He's seventh at WR. So everyone is on board with him...

Justin (New York)

PPR League. Both managers have depth at the position traded away. Which side of the trade do you like? Owen Daniels for Donald Driver? Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (3:36 PM)

I'll always take the productive WR over the TE, no matter the depth situation. Driver is still a top-20 WR most weeks in my ranks.

Maz (NY)

Who do you like at QB this week: Carson Palmer or Trent Edwards? Is Palmer an every-week start in this situation or should I still be playing matchups?

Eric Karabell
  (3:37 PM)

Well, Palmer plays the Browns... how could anyone go with Edwards over that? Edwards has not been very good. I wouldn't assume Palmer is a top-10 play every week, but this week he's close to it.

steve (wilmington)

Sims-Walker or Garcon : who puts up the better #'s this year ( non PPR)

Eric Karabell
  (3:37 PM)

I think it's Sims-Walker, as he's the top receiving option for the Jaguars, while Garcon MIGHT be the No. 3 option in Indy. Really, that does matter. Sims-Walker looks like a breakout guy.

Josh (Minneapolis)

My tight end situation is a disaster. Would you trade Andre Johnson for Desean Jackson, Braylon Edwards and Vernon Davis? Could also get TO or Daniels in the mix instead of the other players mentioned.

Eric Karabell
  (3:38 PM)

I personally would not trade Andre Johnson for that package. I'd go without a TE first. I mean, Johnson is the best player in the deal. Find a TE each week off free agency.

hank (columbus)

Going forward, would you rather have Benson and Randy Moss or DeAngelo and Calvin Johnson?

Eric Karabell
  (3:39 PM)

Tough one! I think it's still DeAngelo and Calvin. But Benson does, believe it or not, look good so far.

Ben (Ca)

What's ur take on Ronnie brown? Sell him. Im worried about opposing teams filling the box to stop the run and make Henne beat them like people have said. He's already getting outperformed by Ricky Williams 2 out of the first 3 weeks

Eric Karabell
  (3:41 PM)

Ronnie Brown owners seem to think his game against the Colts is the norm. It's not. Brown had one major game all last season. It was awesome, 5 TDs, but then he was average. Stats are misleading. Brown just hasn't done much. I agree a new QB won't help. But trying to trade him now probably won't get full value.

RayRay (DC)

You have Nate Washington ranked relatively well, but man that's not a lot of catches for all those targets. Thoughts?

Eric Karabell
  (3:42 PM)

Washington has scored back to back weeks, so it's a start. And it's a nice matchup against a Jaguars team that might be in a lot of shootouts.

Mike (Boston)

Dare I bench my hometown boy Tom Brady vs Balt in favor of Eli vs KC? The only reason to start TB is for that breakout game you know is coming...

Eric Karabell
  (3:44 PM)

You have every reason to sit Brady... not sure you can, though. I mean, you drafted Brady to never sit... oooh... Look, I get it. It's a tough call. I'd probably go Eli. I ranked him 2 spots better. The matchup against KC is awesome. Look what Kevin Kolb did! I doubt Brady goes 4-TD nuts against the Ravens, so either way you're probably ok...

Andrea (Philly)

Which side of this trade are you on--Brady and Steve Smith (Car) for Warner and Andre Johnson? Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (3:45 PM)

I'll take the Brady side there. Two top WRs - Smith will be fine - and the only one I am worried about is Warner. Looks like his shoulder could be a problem.

Jay (bay area,ca)

DMason or LJ vs NYG for flex this week??

Eric Karabell
  (3:46 PM)

No idea until I actually do the flex rankings tomorrow, but I'm guessing Mason is gonna win that one. LJ offered nothing against Philly..now he gets the Giants!

Rigidy (Hartford)

Going back to your ranking difference with Barry, AJ is going against Nnamdi Asomugha all game long and I would guess he factored that more strongly than you did. In the same breath I would guess he has Kevin Walter ranked more highly than you do.

Eric Karabell
  (3:47 PM)

And he does. I see the point, but I try not to overrate opposing corners... doesn't mean Nnamdi covers him the entire game.

Jason (Moon Twp)

Everyone is hype for Tashard Choice, but he was able to do this on Monday night with Felix onboard. Assuming Barber doesn't play, does he get 100 and touch as automatically as people suggest against a stingy Denver D?

Eric Karabell
  (3:48 PM)

I ranked Choice 21, so I suppose more of a flex than RB2. And let's see the Denver D remain stingy against good offenses.

Jake (PSU)

Welker or Cotchery this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:49 PM)

Until we know Welker is playing, then it's an easy call. And really, with the matchups the way they are, I might go Cotchery anyway.

Ben (Ca)

Ronnie brown for steve slaton???

Eric Karabell
  (3:49 PM)

Give me Slaton.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

So you're saying the Broncos D will be stingy for at least one more week then.

Eric Karabell
  (3:50 PM)

Not really. Dallas scores more than 24.

Leah (Canada)

Is Heath Miller worth a start this week? I have Tony G. on bye.

Eric Karabell
  (3:51 PM)

Don't expect much, but sure, it's only one week. No need to trade for a new TE for one week.

Tim (ATL)

how do you feel about Flacco - has he moved ahead of Romo in your mind?

Eric Karabell
  (3:52 PM)

No, not yet. But he has moved up to top-10 status some weeks.

Drey (SC)

Choice or A. Bradshaw in the flex this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:53 PM)

I ranked Choice 21 and Ahmad 22... so it's kinda close. Some are worried Bradshaw is hurt. I think he's ok.

Joe (MN)

For the rest of the season..Ryan Grant or Ronnie Brown

Eric Karabell
  (3:53 PM)

Grant. 1,200 yards and 6 or 7 scores.

Maz (NY)

real quick. got offered Steve Smith (Carolina) for Donald Driver. Am I missing something or is this a no-brainer?

Eric Karabell
  (3:54 PM)

No-brainer. Buy low on Smith if you can. Delhomme isn't a Pro Bowler, but he'll get Smith a good, productive season.

Rigidy (Hartford)

What do you see for Portis going forward? Is it time to start benching him?

Eric Karabell
  (3:54 PM)

No. Portis has another nice matchup this week, and it's too soon to stick a fork in him, though he could probably use a week or two off with his bad ankles.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Just looking for a critique here: This season I expanded our league rosters to 20 and added an extra TE starting each week. I figured since we only had eight people in the league that these changes might make the league a bit more interesting. What do you think of these changes?

Eric Karabell
  (3:55 PM)

Sounds reasonable to me. Plus, there are normally 16 tight ends worthy of starting every week, though the difference between say the fifth TE and the 16th might not often be great.

Jordan (OH)

Baseballl!!! Throwback edition... better start today...John Smoltz or Pedro Martinez

Eric Karabell
  (3:56 PM)

Baseball! It exists! I say Pedro, but beware it's a 3-inning outing...

Brent (Cass Lake, MN)

Schaub/Slaton for Gore/Palmer...which side do you want?

Eric Karabell
  (3:57 PM)

Easily the Schaub/Slaton side. That team will be scoring points... and Gore could miss a month, or more. Who knows?

Tim (ATL)

i know you're not the injury guy - but what's your take on the welker situation? some how i've eked out wins while he's sat (in my active lineup), but am very concerned going forward as he's my #1 WR... in theory

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

Sounds a lot more serious to me than the Pats are letting on. Two missed games? That's not minor. I didn't rank Welker for this week. Not gonna fool me again!

Legs (TX)

Is it too early to drop Eddie Royal? If not is Sidney Rice a good replacement?

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

It's not too early to cut him, I guess, but only if there is someone out there worth it. Can't say that would be Rice.

mark (cincy )

how does the Cleveland RB situation change w/ Anderson @ QB . Will J Davis see any time @ RB as a result ?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Doesn't. No matter the QB it's up to Jamal Lewis to play if healthy. I'd think Harrison is next in line though.

Brody (THE M.I.A.)

Greg Jennings or Jericho Cotchery?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Still Jennings...

Brandon J (Nyg)

How'd you like me this week? Am i going to do this good every week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Jacobs will have a good week against KC...

Eric Karabell
  (4:00 PM)

OK, that is all for this week. Thank you for the questions and have a great day... Good luck in Week 4...
