Chat with Pat Yasinskas

Warren Sapp (Retired in Tampa)

Hey Pat man it kills me I mean kills the "QBKILLA" that the once respected Tampa defence couldn't sack a bag of groceries. Now don't get me wrong Raheem is my boy but dosen't it look some times at these pressconferences that he look like a deer in the headlights. He would have made a great coach some day too big a jump from not even having been a coordinator in the league. Another 2 or three straight losses and I bet my dang phone along with Brooks, Rice are gunna start ringing.

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:48 AM)

Yes, it looks bad right now. But give Raheem some time. And let him stick with his plan of developing young players. If they go reaching back for guys like you and Brooks now, they'll be even worse off.

Scott (NOLA)

Pat, When Bell returns will it be an equal split of carries or has Pierre taken a firm grip of the majority of carries?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:49 AM)

Think they'll stick with the hot back. But it's a long season and both of them will get their share.

Daryl (MIdland, Texas)

If Josh Johnson does a good job the rest of the season. Will we still see Freeman this year?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:50 AM)

If Josh Johnson plays well and Bucs win some games, they'd be delighted to stick with him. If the losing continues like it is, you'll see Freeman sometime this year.

Mike W. (Washington PA)

Big Saints fan, been one since mid 80's. My question is do you think the bye week comes too early this season, or do you think this is a good time for the Saints to have theirs?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:51 AM)

It would have been nice to have it later and keep the momentum going. But it's out of their control. At least this gives them extra time to be ready for the Giants.

RAY GORDON REID (STARKVILLE MISSISSIPPI 39759)

QUESTION TO PAT YASSINSKAS AT 12..20PM HI PAT ARE YOU GONNA BE AT SAINTS GIANTS NEXSUNDAY

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:51 AM)

Yes.

Van Gorder (Atlanta (GA))

Any hope of salvaging my defense this year?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:52 AM)

Think a lot of things could be improved if the pass rush starts doing its job.

jay (Atlanta)

should atlanta start worrying about Michael Turner not being as effective as last year

Mark (texas)

How long do you think the Glazers stick with Morris as the Coach of the Bucs, and do you think they will win a game this year?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:55 AM)

They'll win some games. I think they want to stick with him -- as long as they show some progress this season.

chauncey (raleigh, nc)

Do you think Hollis Thomas will start for the panthers Sunday?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:56 AM)

He'll play, but I don't think he'll start right off the bat.

Nick (Sarasota)

Raheem has made a point to say that josh Johnson has earned the starting spot, is this a wake up call for freeman to pay more attention to detail and not rely on just his physical skills?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:57 AM)

Maybe a little. But they really don't want to rush Freeman.

Marques (Reno,NV)

Pat, one element has gone unnoticed in the Saints passing game this season. The last two weeks, the Saints were relegated to base formations on offense with the absence of Lance Moore (last week he had one catch for two yards). With him probably at 100% in two weeks, will their passing productivity go up?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:57 AM)

I would think so. But, hey, there still are plenty of weapons.

Blake (Rhode Island)

If the panthers continue the uninspired (and downright embarrassing) play, could we see a coaching change before the end of the season?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:58 AM)

If it continues this way, yes. But hang loose and see what happens the next three games. If the Panthers have anything left, they could win all three.

mike V (charlotte NC)

do you think the panthers fan base is strong enough to fight through this tough time and stay with the team forever?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:59 AM)

Yes, fans are dedicated there.

Dillan (Lousiana)

Hey Pat, is it just me, or does it look more and more like the saints will have top 5 defense to go along with their top offense?

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:59 AM)

I'm believing it.

carol M (raleigh, nc)

pat your really slow today.....

Pat Yasinskas
  (11:59 AM)

Sorry. I'll speed up.

Mat (Raleigh)

What happened to Julius Peppers? Should the Panthers hurry up and trade him before he loses all value?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:00 PM)

What makes you think anybody would give up something good for him the way he's playing?

Marques (Reno, NV)

Pat, I've been attempting to get this question asked for a couple of weeks now. Given the fact that Drew Brees has had strong seasons the past five years including a good start this year, how many better seasons do you think he needs to be a reasonable consideration for the hall of fame?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:01 PM)

Tough to put an exact number on it. Maybe about four with some playoff wins?

Jonathan Bourdeau (Davenport,Florida)

Hey Pat. Whats the condition on Mike Bell for the Saints regarding for next weeks game against the Giants.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:01 PM)

He said the other day he'll be 100 percent.

james (ohio)

big saints fan do you see the Saints D holding up and you see anyone they could go after that could help them even moe

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:01 PM)

Stick with what they've got. It's working nicely.

jon (new york new york)

do you think beason wil re sign with carolina? also to you think carolina might trade stewart or williams? if so which running back will be traded? i would keep stewart.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:02 PM)

Way too early to say. A lot would depend on if there's a coaching change.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Do you think the Panthers Steve Smith is ready to explode on and off the field anytime soon?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:03 PM)

Well, with the on-field stuff, he has reason to be motivated right now. He's usually at his best when he's fired up.

Nick (Jacksonville, FL)

Lets say Josh Johnson does well and wins some games this year putting up impressive numbers as the season progresses. What would the Bucs do next year, start all over with another young QB in Freeman or let Johnson continue to start next season?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:04 PM)

That would be a nice problem to have. If Johnson really does well the whole rest of the year, they'd have to start off with him. But that's getting WAY ahead of the game.

Saints D (NOLA)

Pat, are we a good enough unit to continue winning once the schedule gets a bit tougher? By the way that kid we have doing kickoffs and punts is awesome!

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:05 PM)

Yes. And glad to see Morstead is working out. I know that wasn't a popular draft pick, but it's turning out well.

Neil (Jackson, MS)

Saints fan with a scheduling complaint other than the bye week: How did the NFL allow us to not play a single division game until November. It takes a lot of the excitement out of playing Carolina or Tampa Bay if they aren't even in the playoff race by the time we play them.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:05 PM)

True, but it could make those games easy for you.

Robert (Georgia)

Will the Falcons open up the playbook more and let Matt Ryan let it all hang out? They seemed ultra conservative in New England.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:06 PM)

I would hope so. I think the bye week gave them a little more time to think.

Marques (Reno, NV)

Pat, much appreciation on my question being answered; I know you get tons of them. I remember you saying that Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune was a person you respected a lot. And he does a video blog on NOLA.com. My question is have you ever considered doing a daily, weekly, or monthly NFC South blog? I think his v-blogs are very insightful.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:08 PM)

Dunk is a great guy. We don't really do video blogs yet, but I think something like that might be coming. We do run the audio of the Blogger's Blitz on ESPNEWS each week on the blog. I'm waiting to hear today's schedule, but I usually do it Thursday night somewhere in the 9 p.m. ET hour. I'll post an alert on the blog when I get the schedule.

Nick (Tampa)

You are on your game today! How much will having T. Jackson back help this struggling Bucs defense? (They have shown some improvement week to week though)

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:09 PM)

I think Tanard will help a lot. He's the best player they have in that secondary and his presence will help Sabby.

Jared (Myrtle Beach, SC)

Pat, do you think that Bill Cowher is the most likely option to replace John Fox if he gets fired, since he already lives in NC? Also do you think the panthers are going to give Julius Peppers a big contract offer no matter how he plays this season?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:10 PM)

I've never bought the Cowher thing. First off, it's not like Raleigh (where he has the house) is right next to Charlotte. As far as Peppers, a lot depends on what he does rest of season and who's running the team next year.

Scott (Iraq)

Do you see Greg Williams being offered a head coaching position if the Saints keep playing the way they are? If so, you think he would leave Payton? (Disregarding the money and the opportunity haha)

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:11 PM)

Good question. First I've thought about it, but it's time to start considering that possibility. If Saints continue like they are, Gregg's reputation will be restored and he should have opportunities. If he gets a shot at a head coaching job, he probably has to take it -- as long as it's a decent situation.

Carlos (Chicago)

Are the Saints a playoff team based on the first 4 games, and now with what you have seen, what do you predict their record will be?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:12 PM)

Yes on the playoffs. I try to avoid predictions, but I'd give them double-digit wins right now.

Paul (Houston, TX)

Pat, I've said from the start that I think Raheem Morris is simply a stop-gap for one of the more legendary coaches coming available in 2010. (ie Cowher, Shannahan, etc) Do you think the Glazers will fire Morris and bring in some coach with more experience after this abysmal year?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:13 PM)

Not unless Bucs go 0-16.

Joseph Guidry (Houma, Louisiana)

Pat, a lot of the league's 'experts' feel the Saints' quick start is due to the inexperienced QBs they've faced through the first four weeks of the season (Stafford, Kolb, Edwards, Sanchez). Looking at the Saints' schedule for the remainder of the season, it doesn't get that much harder in that aspect (aside from games vs Eli Manning, Tony Romo, Jake Delhomme, and a great one in Tom Brady). Also, injuries are often an overused excuse for failed expectations. I think the depth chart is in the control of every team's owner, GM, and head coach. Every team gets to suit up 53 guys. Not a lot of talk about the Saints' injury status (because they are winning). However, the Saints have already placed 9 players on IR (including Pro Bowl LT Jammal Brown, their top two TEs behind Jeremy Shockey, and half of the team's draft picks from this year). The Saints have also been without their leading receiver (Lance Moore) and their leading rusher (Pierre Thomas) from last year for much of the current season. Those players combined for over 2,700 all-purpose yards and 22 TDs last year. Not a lot of teams can claim success after those kinds of losses. The team is also without their starting DT Kendrick Clancy and their best run blocking TE Darnell Dinkins. The Saints have won going away this season, and their chances of doing so throughout the year seem great considering the depth of the club and their remaining schedule. The bye week will get key players healthy (Mike Bell, Lance Moore, Kendrick Clancy, Jermon Bushrod, Darnell Dinkins) and kicker Garrett Hartley returns from his suspension.Sounds like a good time for an article on the Saints organization... injuries are no excuses, great depth with quality team players, and perhaps the best is yet to come.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:15 PM)

Difference between last year and this year is largely that the Saints have had guys step up when guys got injured this year. That's been huge. Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton deserve credit for setting up that kind of depth.

Nick (Tampa)

Over / Under 3 wins for the bucs this season?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:15 PM)

Over.

alex (fuquay)

When theres a coaching change, I doubt that the new coach will want Delhomme, and he just signed a 5 year deal, so do you think they will trade him and if so what for

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:15 PM)

Not gonna get much in a trade for him. Might just have to cut him.

Michael (Atlanta)

Pat, bigger need for the Falcons, getting the running game or the d-line going?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:16 PM)

D-line. They still can move ball with passing game if running game's not working. Everything on defense depends on D-line.

Jeffy (Texas)

Do you think the collapse in Carolina is a result of players finally tuning out John Fox, or some dubious personel decisions, also do you think that teams eventually tune out a coach and it is time for him to move on?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:17 PM)

That's a good question. I think there is some truth to that. I think there is a shelf life for a coach and Fox might be past it in Carolina. He came with a reputation as a players coach, but people change over time.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Nice, someone sent in a question using my name and home town. I have a question from the real me, Pat. To what do you attribute the rebirth of Jeremy Shockey's career? Just a few weeks ago it seemed as though he was finished.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:18 PM)

He's healthy.

cody (LA)

Do the saints have any intrest in signing Derrick Brooks?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:18 PM)

No, if they were going to do it they would have done it by now.

Sharell (NCFalconFan)

When will the Brent Grimes experience be over with in ATL?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:19 PM)

Haha. Could be soon. The bye might have given them time to get other CBs ready.

JRozz (Tampa)

Pat any chance Gaines Adams shows up 2 weeks in a row he did have a sack and a couple of tackles against a Pro Bowl left tackle last week.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:19 PM)

I wouldn't bet on it. But there is talent there and anything is possible.

Reggie Bush ((NFC South))

Who is the current favorite for MVP of the NFC South?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:20 PM)

Your teammate, Mr. Brees.

Nick (Tampa)

Great job today Pat!!!! Still agree with your prediction of Freeman starting after the bye week....The throwback game vs Green Bay

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:20 PM)

Yep, I'm sticking with that one.

Greg (Cleveland, OH)

Hey Pat, will you tell Saints fans to quit complaining about the bye and their schedule? They play ZERO teams coming off a bye (those teams historically increase their winning odds by ~10% over non-bye weeks) while the Falcons play FOUR. NFL has been buttering New Orleans bread all year, from Smith/Grant to QB to their schedule.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:21 PM)

I'll let you tell them.

Timothy (VA)

Are the Falcons a legitimate contender to make the Playoffs?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:21 PM)

Sure.

joe (clearwater)

still waiting for the Bucs to put together a complete game, do u think it might happen anytime soon?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:22 PM)

It could. Remember, it took Dungy's first team a long time to show promise.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

Pat: It seems as though Jonathan Stewart's Achilles still hasn't healed. Is this a bigger problem than it seems or are the Panthers just being overly cautious?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:22 PM)

It's no longer a time for caution. They've got to put everything they've got on the table.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

Tell Greg, no one has been buttering New Orleans' bread and that he sounds bitter.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:23 PM)

I'll let you tell him.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Same NFL that took a home game away from the Saints and put them in London after Katrina when the city really needed that game in NO?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:23 PM)

Valid points.

Kroy Beer-Man (Dallas, GA)

Jonathan Babineaux had a great year last year, so far this year it seems we arent getting a push up the middle, is he receiving more double teams or just not playing as well?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:24 PM)

I think the loss of Jerry is the main problem there.

Kyle (St. Pete)

What's the latest word on Antonio Bryant's health? I think the Bucs need him back and at least somewhat healthy if they want to think about getting on track

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:25 PM)

Think he practiced on a limited basis. Yep, no doubt they need him healthy. Having your No. 1 WR is always a big plus.

Alex (Fuquay)

how old is Hollis Thomas

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:26 PM)

Believe he's 33 or 34. If somebody has time to look it up, let me know if I'm wrong.

Mark (Lemmond)

Looking at Carolina's salary cap situation and remaining draft picks, it will take at least 3-4 years to fix this team once Hurney and Fox are gone. How could the Richardson's allow thing to get this bad?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:27 PM)

Definitely some questionable choices on Peppers, Delhomme, etc. Somebody else may have to live with all that.

Mike (NO)

Hey Pat, why is the Saints defense not getting the props they deserve, dont they have a top 5 defense. It seems everybody is talking about their offense.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:28 PM)

I think there's been a lot of talk about their defense, too. That's been a big story since the start of training camp and the reviews keep getting better.

Jerry (New Orleans)

Hey Pat, I know the answer already but wanted your point of view. Saints Super Bowl contenders this year??

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:28 PM)

At this point, absolutely.

Marques (Reno, NV)

Hey Pay, Hollis Thomas is 35.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:29 PM)

There we go. Thanks.

joe (clearwater)

did u hear the rumors about D Ward trying to get on the bus after the NY game? whats up with that

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:29 PM)

No, no, no. That was just a joke.

Josh (New Orleans)

Pat, with Pierre Thomas & Mike Bell getting most of the touches at Tailback, could we start to see less and less of Reggie in the backfield?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:30 PM)

That would be my guess.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

Can you give a quick run down on the biggest weakness for each team in the NFC South?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:31 PM)

Tampa -- the defense, particularly secondary and pass rush.Carolina -- QB or defense.Atlanta -- defensive line.New Orleans -- can't really say anything has surfaced, although the left tackle situation over the long haul could be an issue.

Alex (Fuquay)

Will Hurney leave with Fox

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:32 PM)

Most likely. They seem to be a package deal.

Mike ((New Orleans))

Hey Pat, as great as the saints have been playing, Brees has looked a little off the last two games. Do you think the shoulder injury is affecting him more than they're letting on?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:33 PM)

Nah, you can't put up fantasy football numbers EVERY week.

Greg (Cleveland, OH)

Lots of Saints questions today. Must feel pretty good to beat up on two rookie QBs, a guy making his first start, and a guy whose offensive coordinator was fired in the preseason. I think they're the team to beat in the NFC South because of their OFFENSE, don't get me wrong, but Super Bowl? How about make the playoffs first?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:34 PM)

True. I just answered the question that right now I think they at least look like a Super Bowl candidate. It's a long season and they've got to keep doing it.

Daniel (Raleigh)

Which is more surprising... the fact that the Panthers willfully gave Delhomme the extension and didn't bring in someone to challenge him after the playoffs, or how quickly their defense has fallen off? They used to be dominant, now they can't stop anyone. I still can't believe they are that weak up front on defense.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:35 PM)

I'll give the nod to the defense. It's pretty stunning how fast that fell apart -- although there were warning signs late last year and they didn't do anything about them.

JP (I'm not telling)

How come everyone is coming down hard on Peppers, he said he didn't want to be there, weren't you people listening.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:36 PM)

Might have a point.

Matt (only South Florida Panther fan)

I don't buy the Cowher in Carolina thing either...I'm thinking Shottenheymer (sp?) or Gregg Williams. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:37 PM)

I think those would make more sense.

ray (NOLA)

Hey pat any word on Ricky Jackson HOF? are you skock on how the south is so far.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:38 PM)

Nothing new on Hall of Fame until February.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

Hmmm, your weakness for the Saints kind of surprises me. I would have gone with kicker because I don't think the Saints go for it on some of those 4th downs against the Jets if Hartley was there. I think they try the FG.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:39 PM)

Could be right.

Dave (Tampa)

Pat, In your opinion, was the youth movement on the Bucs made to improve the football team long-term, or the Glazer's cash flow short-term?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:39 PM)

Long term.

Anthony (VA)

Do you believe the Panthers are good enough that they should try to get a veteran qb this off-season and compete next year or draft a new qb and rebuild from the top?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:41 PM)

Kind of depends on who's running the show and what they want to do.

LO (NOLA)

Do you think the Saints will ever draft a rookie QB to understudy Drew Brees?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:41 PM)

Not really a need yet. Maybe down the road.

Daniel (Raleigh)

Why not Cowher? The Panthers are built to be a running team, and Cowher lived and died by Jerome Bettis and the power running game for years. Defense and running the ball is Cowher's mantra and the Panthers are built for just that. To me, its a no brainer, especially since he wouldn't have to move far, and coming home is only a 2 hour train ride away.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:42 PM)

I just think he'll end up in a big market, if he coaches again.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

I thought Chase Daniel was now the understudy to Brees. Not to replace him but to be the backup.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:43 PM)

True. He's there. But he's a project. Brees should be fine for a long time to come. At some point down the road, they may draft somebody, but they're not near that point yet.

Ryan (Shallotte, NC)

how can john fox think his scheme will work with the front 4 they have? brayton is basically a quick DT, lewis is an average DT at best, hayden is well hayden, and pep gets doubled and quits b/c the other 3 offer him no help...why doesn't the man adjust to the personel he has and blitz more? we are one of the fewest blitzing teams in the league...you can not rely on that front 4 to do it all!

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:44 PM)

Fox never has been one to adjust to personnel. He sticks with his system. That worked -- up until this year.

ray (NOLA)

do u see Gregg Williams leaving the saints after one year to coach the panthers oh and sorry for the misspelled word skock when i meant are you shock about the way the south look so far.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:45 PM)

I just said Gregg Williams could be making himself into a hot candidate. I wouldn't go penciling him in anywhere else just yet.

Tweenerton (NOLA)

With the play of Bushrod, do you think J. Brown might not be resigned, if there is a CBA in place, meaning he would be an unrestricted FA.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:46 PM)

Gotta wait and see what happens the rest of the season. Bushrod and Strief have filled in nicely. But you don't just dump a Pro Bowl LT unless you're sure about those guys.

Tye Hill (ATL)

Will I actually get to play this week versus the Niners?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:47 PM)

You might. I'm guessing they used the bye week to get you up to speed.

Alex (Fuquay)

Shanahan?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:47 PM)

If anything, I see Richardson going with a young coordinator type and not bring in a big name that's been sitting out there.

Gary (Charlotte)

Pat why are people talking like Fox and Hueny have destroyed this franchise for years to come. They have a really good young core of guys that I think any coach would love to work with, Darin Gantt had an article about it.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:49 PM)

That's what people talk about when you're 0-3.

Sharell (NCFalconFan)

Why are Panther fans all over Cowher? He went to 2 SB and won 1. He didn't always have a winning season. Do you really want one person to come in, guarantee him millions of dollars and allow him to make every decision regarding the team?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:50 PM)

That's why I don't see Richardson going that route. He did it once with George Seifert and it didn't work. I don't think he'll ever give a coach that type of power again.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

How much trouble will the 49ers be to Atlanta this weekend?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:50 PM)

Should be a very good game. Falcons still have lots to prove on defense.

Dalton (DeQuincy, LA)

"HAY PAT" OVER HERE!!!Provided Sharper finish's the season strongly do you think the Saints will try an keep him around for 2010 ? Also While Sharper's still "Here" and on top of his game, what's the chance's That the Saint's try an field Jenkins and Sharper together for on field experience rather than sideline experience for Jenkin's ?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:52 PM)

If Sharper continues like this, they might sign him to a 10-year deal. Just kidding. But the guy's been great. I think you'll see a gradual increase for Jenkins as season goes on. But no sense messing with something that's not broken right now.

Nathan (Cary, NC)

FYI, your answers are not posting with the corresponding questions

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:53 PM)

Oh, is that happening again?? I'm sorry. I'll tell the tech people.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Falcons and 49ers is a preview of Division winner in San Fran vs wild card ATL?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:53 PM)

Could well turn out that way.

Daniel (Raleigh)

So Pat... Follow college football much? If so, who's your team?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:54 PM)

Penn State. My hopes already were crushed.

Tweenerton (NOLA)

Pat, seeing malcolm jenkins play it seems as though he hits like a safety and might be a tad bit too slow to be a corner. Why not groom him to be our FS while we still have my man, D Sharper.

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:54 PM)

That still may end up being the way they go.

lani (caribbean)

hey pat any word on the falcons and the three DTs they worked out

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:55 PM)

Nothing yet.

Glen (Minneapolis)

hey Pat, my gues is that the Falcons could go 7-1 at home (splitting games with Philly and NO and winning the rest). But I can't see them winning on the road apart from versus TB and CAR at best. That would have them at about 8-8 or 9-7. I think the Saints could win twelve games. Should I have faith that Mike Smith and company will find a way to steal a couple of other road games?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:56 PM)

You'd better, unless you want to concede the division to the Saints right now.

Lloyd (Baton Rouge, LA)

Hey Pat, are the Panthers and Falcons defense terribly affected by injuries? Of course injuries hurt, but would those defenses be MUCH better without the injuries?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:57 PM)

Excellent question. No I don't think you can put it all on injuries. Basically, each of them has had one DT injured. It's their fault for not having more depth and for not being better in some other areas.

odie (dallas)

Could the Panthers trade Steve Smith to a desperate Cowboys team?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:58 PM)

I think they'd be very hesitant to trade away their best player. Two more questions before I run.

David (Palm Harbor)

Pat, Any word on a contract extension for Barrett Ruud?

Pat Yasinskas
  (12:59 PM)

No and I don't think anything's close. They want to see some positives before they go locking anybody up.

Pat, I know that every body wants to gibve Raheem and Mark Dominik a chance to suceed even if they do poorly this season, but there sure has been some bone head moves. The latest is giving Mike Nugent a guranteed contracts of $2 million this year when he was already cut by one team already. Matt Bryant would have made those field goals last Sunday and we would have won the game. Why be patient with a front office that makes one bad decision after another.
