What's up guys, I'm ready to go.
Who will be the Cowboys coach in 2010?
That's a strong question to start a chat out with. Listen, Wade Phillips isn't going anywhere, at least in 2009. Jerry Jones said so the last few days. Phillips is in the last year of his contract but the club has an option for 2010 and if the Cowboys make a deep playoff run, expect the team to extend it.
What will it take for Tashard Choice to be the guy? I like his deamenor on and off the field. Let him know he is doing his thing. What are the corners good at I mean, Mike Jenkins can he jam well, good instincts? I like Scandrick, he will come up and hit, and besides that Giants game I think he is solid!
Is Tashard Choice better than marion Barber and Felix Jones? Nope. That's why Jones was a first round pick and Barber got a five-year contract, a few years ago. If all the backs are healthy, Choice is the third down guy. Now, as of now, Barber and Jones won't be 100 percent the rest of the season, so the team will split the carries. RB coach Skip Peete said that this week.
we need jimmy johnson
is choice a better choice than barber fantasy wise in the upcoming wks???
Yeah, i would say so. Choice is going to get his carries and he can break away for a score. He broke free for a 36 yard touchdown last week in KC.
Cowboys had their best week of practice on Thursday. I was surprised to see that coming from a team such as this. Maybe the team could be for a turnaround.
Whoever is out there let me know which Cowboys' player need to have a big game against Atlanta?
the coch is out of he,we need a winning coch
Wade does have a winning record as a coach. He's winless in the postseason, however, and that's where he'd judged.
would you concede that in effect you have two coordinators and no headcoach. It does not seem to me like Garrett answers to Wade
Wade, in theory is a better defensive coordinator than head coach. Garrett has never been a head coach, he went from qb coach to offensive coordinator to offensive coordinator/assistant head coach in less than three seasons.
why won't they let romo be romo yea he makes mistakes but more times than anything he makes plays
I think Romo might be confused a little bit. yes, they want Romo to make plays with his feet and arm. When he moves around the pocket he's very dangerous. I think the coaches are trying to calm him down a little bit and not let him take chances. If they slow him down, he can become a bus driver or a guy who throws for about 300 yards with two touchdowns no picks with a victory. But at times he can throw for 350 with two TDs and one INT. That's something the team doesnt want.
we need the best,Tom the man l
Tom Brady? Is that who you want as quarterback. Randy, it's not going to happen, not in our lifetime. Brady will retire a Patriot. I think. Romo is better than some of these quarterbacks out here. I'm sure you would take Romo over Jason Campbell and JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn. Sure you would. Would Tony Sparano in Miami take Romo over his guy, Chad Henne? I think so.
Even though Dallas was expected to beat Kansas City, do you think a win like this going into a bye week can get this team some momentum for the rest of the year. If they were to lose, I believe the season is lost but maybe there is hope now. What do you expect the Cowboys to do for the rest of the season?
If the Cowboys lost to Atlanta next week, they will have major issues. Because two of the next three games are on the road. Nov. 1 vs. Seattle, winnable game, Nov. 8 at Philly, that's a loss, and Nov. 15 at Green Bay. That could be a loss, depending on which Cowboys' team shows up. Can the Cowboys win 10 games? No, I don't think so. But if they beat Atlanta, my opinion of them might change. They have to play better as a team. Winning ugly doesn't carry you very far. Can they win an ungly game vs. the Giants and Eagles? I doubt it.
I think Garrett is still pass happy. Do see a difference with Owens gone. I don't.
Yes, I do see a difference. Romo isn't forcing things to Owens, just to make him happy, and the Cowboys did rush for over 200 yards in consecutive weeks. That hasn't happened under Garrett. The missing thing in the cowboys offense is a deep threat. maybe Miles Austin is that guy.
true or false, roy williams best routes to run are the quick slant and the fade, and romo's worst routes to throw are the quick slant and the fade?
False. I think Roy would prefer Romo throw some jump balls, because thats what Jon Kitna did in Detroit. The slants are good routes for Williams and Romo to connect with. Romo did them with success with Pat Crayton and T.O. the last two years. As for the fade, Romo can make that throw, but guys have to catch it.
Do you see any way Jerry fires Garrett and not Wade. People are clamoring for a big name but they aren't going to get one to come if he can't pick his O.C.
I'm sure if Jerry fires Wade, he will interview Jason Garrett for the head coaching job. Now,if Garrett doesnt get it, expect the new coach to get rid of Garrett, especially if its an offensive minded coach. I doubt Jerry would fire Garrett.
Question is not about the Cowboys, but about Oklahoma. What are the chances or have you heard anything about Sam Bradford and possibly returning next year? I can see him coming back. Horn Gilbert and Bradford next year would be fun because the horns defense should be stout next year. HOOK 'EM
Roy Williams was asked this question on another chat ESPNDallas conducted and he felt Bradford was coming out. I'm not sure how the NFL people feel about Bradford's prospects, but they will double, no make that triple check that shoulder.
GARRETT is the MAIN problem with this team
He's made some questionable decisions the last few years, but hey who hasn't. It's a collective thing. Jason, Wade, Jerry, the whole crew is at fault. Jerry wants to win and is trying to give the coaches everything they need to succeed.
i understand things and gameplans change after preseason and during the season/games. however, the 2 keys i think we were expecting before season started, more bennett and faster play calls, have both never happened. why? what can we do to make this happen or have they forgotten?
Bennett isn't getting open on a consistent basis, that's the first thing. Defenses are rushing five, six, and seven defenders sometimes, so he has to stay and block. I don't think Romo trusts him too much. He's been open a few times and Romo either missed him or ignored him. As for the faster play calls, that does surprise me. There are times when the team is in a sort of hurry up offense, but then slows down at the line of scrimmage. Defenses could be the issue there or Garrett is not sure if everybody knows what's going on in the huddle.
When you say they had their best week of practice on thursday are they not supposed to put heir full effort week in and out?
That's what Wade Phillips said. After the loss at Denver, Keith Brooking said the team needed to practice better and Ken Hamlin also picked up on the statement. The team was struggling in practice. So, with Wade saying Thursday was a strong practice, that's a good sign for the team that they're working hard.
What about Garrett's time in Dallas so far says head coach? I agree with you though that due to their relationship it seems like we need to get prepared for that reality.
Yes, but if the Cowboys offense struggles and if Romo continues to regress, which I believe he has, though Wade and Jerry say he hasn't, I don't expect Garrett to be the head coach. It's a tough sell to make Garrett the head coach if the offense struggles, then the players will complain about it, and will the fans continue to buy the highly priced season tickets?
not to be critical, but does crayton look like he lacks effort at times, in his body language and demeanor ?
I think Crayton is fine. He was upset with himself following the win in KC, because he knew he made some mistakes. I think Crayton cares about what's going on.
Do you see the Cowboys making any moves before the trade deadline? Maybe to help out the secondary. I think they lack depth.
I doubt they will make a trade at this stage. Secondary is fine. Mike Hamlin is coming back from a broken wrist so that should help at safety and the team was pleased that Alan Ball his somebody, resulting in a $5,000 fine, in KC last week. The secondary has to get better technique wise.
Calvin Watkins (3:08 PM)Whoever is out there let me know which Cowboys' player need to have a big game against Atlanta? To answer this question...I believe we need a huge game from Jason Witten. Witten is a major part of the reason why the Cowboys offense has been so explosive in past seasons. I think if we get him more involved it will provide some problems for the already struggling ATL secondary. If we go to Witten early and create some problems for the ATL secondary then Roy and the rest of the offense will put up some numbers.
I think Witten hasn't been used like he should this year. He's been blocking more than running into routes, much like in 2006. I wonder if Wit will outplay Tony Gonzalez?
It is not like Bennett needs to be wide open. Has Bennett been bad at practice because he hasn't really dropped too many in games going back to last year.
It's not about dropping passes, its more about just running the right route and developing a trust with the quarterback. Not sure if the trust between Romo and Marty B is there.
The return game has had little impact this season. Look back to the glory years and we always had a good returner. K-Mart could break a punt return for a TD at any time. Now, with a good returner, field position could help us turn the corner...your thoughts.
Roger,The team signed Allen Rossum on Wednesday to improve the return game. He's second all-time, to Brian Mitchell in punt and kick return yards. He's an upgrade on returns. He will not muff a punt or fumble a kickoff, he knows what to do.
both assistant coaches, phillips/garrett, look just like that, assistant coaches. nobody takes control. they both look completely lost even in their own jobs. why is this? they are both considered to at least be smart people or good at their own coordinating jobs
Jason,I don't think the coaches are lost. Now, how they look is a different story. So much goes on during a game that I think the coaches, espeically Wade, are trying to figure things out. Both guys are very smart. Wade is good at his job as a DC, Garrett is a work in progress.
Guys, I gotta go, thanks for spending your Friday with me.Take care,Calvin
