What's up people. Sorry, I'm late, Wade Phillips had a late news conference.
Hi Calvin! Is it true that Drew Bledsoe will be starting this weekend for the Cowboys?
You think bill Parcells is coaching.
How bad of a sprain does Ratliff have and would it be wise to even play him against the Seahawks?Lets see there depth!
Ratliff has a bruised knee with some swelling and he's questionable for the game. Wade Phillips didn't rule him out, though I saw Ratliff in the locker room. He looked a little sad, maybe something is on his mind, not sure. But I think he'll play. If not, expect Junior Siavii to start. In the nickel and dime packages, Jason Hatcher takes over there.
Calvin- In Next Years draft should the Cowboys look at drafting a OL guy or do you think they will look hard at a WR such as a Dez Bryant or even another pass rusher to compliment D.Ware???
I think the offensive line is the way to go. Not sure how long Flo Adams can man the LT spot and Kyle Kosier, at LG, not sure how long you got him. Get a lineman in the first round, then just decide to get a WR, unless you think Miles Austin is going to be No. 2 to Roy Williams.
Calvin- I believe a coaching change will happen even if Dallas makes it in the playoffs and gets ousted. My question is do you think they should keep Wade Phillips as a Defensive Coordinator??
First of all, if the Cowboys win a playoff game, Wade isn't going anywhere. Now, No. 2, if they fire Wade, he's not staying as the DC. No way.
More of a comment than anything. Dallas fans have to be the most fickle in all of sports. If Romo has a bad game, everyone wants him benched or traded or even cut. The guy comes back the next week and has a great game and all of a sudden he's the answer. What gives with Cowboy fans?
Interesting point. So, Cowboys' fans, is this true?
Do you think dallas cowboys are going to drop WR roy williams next year or do you see him comming back to dallas
Roy Williams will come back next year. His first 16 games or so here with the Cowboys haven't been that good. Got to give the man one more year. At least one more year.
I agree with Ken about Romo
Good. But that's how fans are sometimes, not all of them, some of them. Remember some of these fans booed Troy Aikman as well.
Do you thin Roy Williams ahould be benched? I'd like to see Hurd play a little more, as well as Ogletree
No, Roy Williams shouldn't get benched. He's a better player than what he's showing. Keep him in there. I'm a little amazed that Hurd is seeing a lot of playing time. The coaches are not that high on him anymore. Kevin Ogletree had a fantastic training camp but he's not as good as Hurd right now.
The schedule favors a pretty good Cowboys team putting together 10 wins, so the regular season shouldn't be a problem...but how do they prepare to avoid the usual flameout in the playoffs?
I'm not sure the Cowboys get to nine or 10 wins.
Hi Calvin- Do you think the Cowboys win over the Falcons will finally give this team the confidence it needs to go out and beat other elite teams in the NFC???
Yes. That was probably one of the more important wins of the year. That win in KC was big, maybe turned the season around, but to beat a quality Atlanta team was vital for this team's confidence.
There were comments that WR Roy Williams was playing lazy in games. And had nothing to do with timing. whats up with that Wat?
I don't believe Roy is lazy, or playing lazy. Sometimes he runs routes that takes him away from the intended target. They did the same thing last year. Roy will be fine.
In light of the Cowboys recent success, would you say they have re-established themselves as Superbowl contenders?
Nope. Just playoff contenders. Can you see this Cowboys' team beating New Orleans, Minnesota and the Giants? I can't. Not right now.
Hey Calvin, just wanted to start off by saying I love your daily blog. What's your take on T-New's play lately? It seems like he's blowing his coverages way more than he was 2-3 years ago. Is he starting to show his age a little or is he still the premier corner we are all used to?
Thanks for the love on the blog, man.Anthony, Terence Newman is paid like a cover corner, an elite player, but the reality is he's a good corner. Not among the best. However, that doesn't mean he's bad. He's good. I think Newman is playing more relaxed because some of the younger kids, Scandrick and Jenkins, are getting better. Newman was always worried about those guys and sometimes it messed him up.
Why are the Cowboys so determined to keep Barber in the starting role? He is obviously not as good as when he was the "closer" Start Choice, mix in Felix as much as possible, then bring Barber in when we get inside the 10 and short yardage situations..........how hard can it be for the coaches to see?
Marion has a bruised thigh and won't be 100 percent until later in the year. Barber got off to a slow start last Sunday vs. Atlanta, but as the game went on, he played better, especially in the fourth quarter, when he became the 'closer'.Now, Felix and Marion have been nicked up the last two years leaving Choice as the only healthy back. Tashard Choice is playing well these days but the coaches think of him as a third-down back.
Calvin this is a comment with Dallas having three stud running backs ,. I think this team is an elite team as long as they have the time of possession and Romo doesn't have any mental mistakes . This will make them a contender
I asked Tashard Choice and Felix Jones if the running game is the pulse of the offense and both said yes, if the offensive lines continues to make holes for them.
Although the last few weeks haven't been a problem with the O-line, with a blitzing team like Philly coming up wouldn't it be smart to start rolling Romo out a little more? I don't undrestand why they don't.
Cowboys use some rollout plays here and there, but it's not their bread and butter. If you run well, something the Cowboys are doing fourth-best run offense in the league, good things will start to happen.
Are you wearing a Roy Williams jersey right now?
How can you not see the Cowboys beating N.Y. right now? They should have beat them in week two if not for all the stupid penalties and turnovers...and it still took the Giants until the final seconds to win!
Yes, the Cowboys should have beaten the Giants, but their defense didn't slow them down on the last drive of the game.Giants have some health issues right now, while the Cowboys are getting better. Giants, to me, are still the favories to win the division.
I love dem Boys with a passion. and over the years the boys have had some pretty decent def. . Do you feel that our def. is good enough to stand toe to toe with other def. in the league come playoff time ?
I do. Say what you will about Phillips' head coaching style, but as a defensive coordinator, he's been good for this team this year.
I know this is a cowboys chat but... when you interviewed Bryant did you since sincere remorse from the events. He seemed like a good kid who trully wishes he could do it diffrent in the interview.
Dez Bryant feels bad about what happened and knows he made a dumb mistake. It's one that cost him his season. Should Bryant miss an entire year? No. Miss two to four games? Yes. But that's not what it is right now. He's going to work his appeal and if it doesn't work, expect him in the league next year.
I think Wade's assessment of penalties not mattering that much is absolutely absurd. I believe our offense could easily put up 35 points each and every game if not for penalties. The pre snap penalties are the absolute worst. When was the last time they went a whole game......a whole half, without a false start on someone?
To me, penalties, especially presnap penalties are the worst kind to have. Coaches want smart football players. A football players IQ can go a long way in how much playing time he gets and the such. Penalties are killers of drives and the Cowboys must eliminate those.
Has Juice Jones had anything to say about returning to Dallas? I'm still feeling underwhelmed by his career in Big D!
I think Julius is happy to be gone. He felt like he was dratted as the starter and didn't get the necessary carries to prove how good he was. That's a shame because Julius is a good guy.
Do you think the Cowboys practice squad could beat my flu-ridden browns?
As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I can say in regards to Ken's point that Cowboy fans are ... *gulp* ... a lot like Yankee fans in this regard. (I gulp because I abhor the Yankees.) Those teams are their sports' respective "American teams", and their fans expect them to win every year - they expect the best, so they cheer whomever when their expectations are met and boo whomever when they are let down.
Cowboy fans want to be winners so they are quick to point the finger at the quarterback because we remember the good ol' days when Aikman was back there winning Superbowls
Cowboys' fans, like most fans want winners, they forget how bad things were around here with some of the teams in the 80s.
Seattle's Defense has ranged from awful to awesome so far this year, what do you foresee this weekend? I believe Felix will run wild, agree?
Felix is nearly 100 percent from his knee injury and Seattle's defense is ranked 14th vs. the run and 12th overall.
Calvin- Can you tell me how can Jerry Jones be so arrogant to think he is a good GM? Do you think he will ever bring in another guy like a Parcells to help him in player development
The thing you don't understand about Jerry is that he played the game and he listens to his personnel people. Now, some of his moves are bad. That Joey Galloway trade was pretty bad and I thinkhe missed on bobby Carpenter at nickle linebacker. You can't fault Jerry for some of these things. He told Bill to get Ware.
Since Ratliff's knee is bruised I believe it to be wise to sit him out this game to heal up for the Eagles next week. No disrespect but I believe the Cowboys could come out with a win without him this game. What are your thoughts
Yes, they can beat Seattle this week without Ratliff. But if he's healthy enough to play, put him out there.
If the saints go to the super bowl who do you think they will play?
Hard to say right now. Colts, Steelers maybe. Some would say Denver is a scary playoff opponent.
I believe teams will start to roll coverages towards Miles Austin especially if he continues to do what he has of lately. How do you get him the ball in those situations.
You either force it to him or find somebody else to get it to. Cover 2 shouldn't deter you from throwing at people. Almost every top receiver in the league sees some type of tight coverage, either in the form of a double-team or press coverage. Romo has to trust his receivers in these situations.
Since Barber is still not a 100 percent would it be wise to let Choice take over the reigns this game. It's not like Choice has not proven he can handle the load alone not to mention they still have Felix to help out.
Joe, Been to Fresno, had a blast. Start Barber and use Felix in certain situations and bring Choice in on third down.
When will they give up on Flozell Adams and all his penatlies and tripping and false starts. He seems to be our weak link on the line, would you ever see anyone taking his spot when premier pass rushers line up against him.
Flo is still a good LT. Not the best in the league, but good enough.I do believe the team would like to see someone else in that role in the future, but as of now, it's Flo.
Guys, take care. See you next Friday at 2 p.m.
