Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Pete (NM)

More surprising - Broncos 6-0 or Titans 0-6?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

It's pretyty close. I don't think anyone could have guessed either scenario.

Big J (Sacramento, CA)

Bill, I heard that KC worked out Terdell Sands and Shaun Smith. Considering that we signed Kenny Smith last week, please tell me that we will sign one of these guys. Sands is huge and played pretty good for Oak the last few years, and Shaun Smith is an above average tackle when he's right

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

I talked to someone in the know and the word is they may wait this one out for a little while.

Steve (From SD)

Is #56 ever going to return to his 06-07 form? Will his lackluster performance thus far decrease his chances of receiving a monster contract and leaving SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Merriman's situaiton is all about his knee. His knee just isn't totally healed and it is hampering Merriman. Yes, he will not get a huge deal if he doesn't get back to full strength this season.

Matt (Chicago)

Bill, I love following your AFC West information, despite how bad the division is. Do you think Chambers is nearing the end? He's not a big receiver, he doesn't have good speed, and lately he hasn't been able to catch anything thrown to him. I'd rather see Floyd out there full time, or mix in a lot more of Legedu, who seems to have great hands. What are your thoughts, and have you heard anything regarding this?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Thanks Matt ... Chambers is struggling. He just doesn't apepar to be his self. I like Naane a lot. He should get a shot.

Steve (San Diego)

Was the Chargers game against KC a sign of things to come, or a blip on what has become a horrible season? Honestly, outside of the KC game, they've played 1 half of good football (2nd half against Miami).

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

A win is a win. They have Oakland this week and if they play as well as they did against he Chiefs, they Chargers should move over .500.

Chad (Las Vegas)

How come steroids isn't brought up more often when it comes to Merriman's career? He seems to be two totally different players before and after suspension.

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I think that is but unfair, Chad. He was good after his suspension. I think his declineis all injury related.

Craig G. (Fairfield, California)

Hey Bill, I just drove by a Raiders fan with a Gannon #12 jersey. SHould I have stopped to offer my condolences? Or tell him to stop living in the past?

Keith (Springfield, MO)

Why did the Broncos switch punters during the bye? From what I've read about Berger, he isn't that much better than Kern.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I hope he wasn't heading to the Raiders' facility.

Victor (KC)

Larry Johnson is between a hard place and an ice cube tray. How does he recover from lack of production, and now a slur?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I'm, not sure he does.

Richard (Raider Nation)

If its not JaMarcus then who is the Raiders biggest problem

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

It's JaMarcus ... but that defnese is bad against the run, the receivers can catch and the o-line struggles. Oakland has many issues.

Nelson (Santa Rosa)

Bill, what do you think of Raiders' Darrius Hayward-Bey so far? 49ers' Michael Crabtree already has as much catches as DHB in just one game. I haven't seen a lot of production in the Raiders' draft choices.

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I'm not surprised. He wasn't a polished product coming into the league. He needs find a consistency. He has a chance to be good, but he has shown absolutely nothing so far and that is concerning.

Shawn (Toronto)

Bill, Todd Haley was complimentary to Jamaal Charles this week. Do you think this is solely the result of LJ and not his actual performance? I'm skeptical because this regime seems bent on ridding the team of every Edwards draft pick regardless of whether or not they have someone better to replace them with.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I think Haley is close to turning the run game over to Charles and Kolby Smith when he is health.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Do you think Cable will be with the Raiders past this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Yeah, I think he gets anotehr year ... Who else would take that gig?

Stuart (Brooklyn, NY)

Hi Bill. What's up with LT? Seems like either his blocking is awful or he just can't get into the end zone. Which is it?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

It's a combo deal, I think.

RAY GORDONREID ( BOULDER CO 80302)

QUESTION TO BILLWILLIAMSON AT 2,40 PM GOODTHURSDAY BILL WILL KC TRADE LARRY JOHNSON

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

They can't until the offseason.

Bill (Denver)

I have never played football before...if I enter teh draft what are teh chances Oakland will draft me in the first round...

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

What's your 40 time?

Keith (Springfield, MO)

Complete this statement: The Broncos will win against the Ravens if they ____________.

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Can continue to play great defense.

mj (gj)

Bill what position do you think denver targets in next years draft

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Maybe the d-line.

Ray (El Paso)

Hey Bill,How does a team go about beating the Broncos? I mean Denver has done a great job of masking weaknesses so far.

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Trying to shake up Orton, which has not been easy.

Jon (San Diego)

Can you see the Chargers going on a run and winning a couple of these tough games against the Eagles and Giants? AJ Smith must draft Terrance Cody in this year's draft right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

I think the Chargers are capable of winning every week. But their defense has to play great to beat the good teams. After witnessing the Eagles' horrible play at Oakland, I can't count them as a good team.

mj (gj)

Will fields be available to play this sunday at the ravens. I heard he has a hammy injury.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

He was hurt at San Diego and he finished the game. I bet he plays.

Keith (Springfield, MO)

2 questions posted, but no answers...where's the love?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

We have a little technical difficulty now and again. Give it antoher shot and I'll keep an eye out for it.

Ryan (Lubbock)

Will the Broncos continue to split carries between Moreno and Buckhalter for the rest of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I'd expect Moreno's numbers to increase as the season moves along.

Keith (Springfield, MO)

Gotta love technology! 2 q's were the following: why switch kern for berger, and name one thing the broncos need to do in order to win against the Ravens. Thanks for indulging me!

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

They wanted a steady veteran, which Berger is and I think Denver has to continue to play great defense.

Fred (Michigan)

Will the broncos be favored to win the super bowl if they beat the ravens and steelers in the following weeks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I think the Colts and Saints still may be.

Juan (OC)

Will Chaz S. play on Sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

He has been out so long, I'm not sure when he will come abck. I wouldn't be surprised if Oakland waited another week.

Rick (Long Island, NY)

Bill, I'm thrilled about the Bronco start, I think one of the keys that people have overlooked is having a healthy Bailey, which they did not have last year, teams still avoid throwing towards him, and he's a game changer in that respect...he's still one of the best as far as I'm concerned...

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

You're right. Bailey is a great player and a big difference maker.

Tyler (Chicago)

What kind of player is Kolby Smith? Does he have a chance to be their #1 RB late this year or even next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

He's decent. He can be a factor if he can stay healthy.

Chris (New York)

What are the chances that Gruden comes back to save Oakland!!! Al should offer him whatever he wants...

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

The chances are not very strong, Chris.

Mical (Austin)

What are the early reports on Alphonso Smith?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

He's been just OK. Nothing special yet.

Fred (Michigan)

Peyton manning has owned the broncos throughout his career...Will that be the case this year or is this a different broncos team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I wouldn't count Manning out of anything, but yes, this is a different Denver team. So it could be a different story.

chauncey (teaneck)

Is it time to bench Matt Cassell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

No. He's the Chief's best player.

Randy Webb (Grove, OK)

What areas do you see the Chiefs showing improvement in? Is there anything that they can build upon for next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I like their d-line.

Craig G. (Fairfield, California)

Hey Bill, on KNBR this morning, they talked about Darren McFadden being absent from media availability and practices. Do you know what's going on with him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

He's hurt, so he hasn't been around.

Mark (Kalamazoo)

If Jay Cutler were still on the Broncos, are they still sporting the same record?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

That's the million dollar question. I'd say no.

Jeff (NC)

Can we expect to see a repeat performance of Richard Seymour v. the Chargers O-line?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

The line is in a little better shape that in Week 1 because those two injuries happened during the game. So Seymour will have a stiffer challenge, but he is capable of taking over games. Still, he has been a little inconsistent. He has either been great or a non factor. But, of course, he is dealing with double teams.

Shane (Grand Junction)

Any Reports of where Coach Shanahan will go?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Just speculation. Most of it revlves around Washington, Dallas and San Dioego.

Matthew (Chico )

Do you not like the 49ers? Somebody must be a sour Cardinals fan. It's okay it was only season and home opener for you.

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

It's an AFC West chat.

Mike (Lawrence)

Is Bowe ever going to figure out his drop problems it always seems like he tries to run before he completes the catch.

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

That catch on the touchdown was terrific on Sunday.

Nick (Wisconsin)

Which 6-0 team do you think is the best?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Those Saints sure are impressive.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Thanks Mical from Austin.

mark (albuquerque)

what's the status of brian dawkins?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

He's practicing and he should play Sunday.

Mical (Austin)

Do you think Richard Seymore stays in Oakland past 2011?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I don't think Oakland has any choice but to extend him. They gave up way too much to let him escape.

Frederick (Plymouth,PA)

Hey Bill, As of now who would be in your AFC playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

As of right now, Indy, Denver, New England, Pittsburgh, Cincy and Baltimore.

Matthew (Chico )

How much longer do you think LT has in SD? Has Sproles already taken on the leading role there?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

No, Lt is still the guy. Sproles is best suited as a change-of-pace guy.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Hey folks, great hour. Talk to you next week. Enjoy Week 8.
