Chat with Bruce Feldman

  (1:59 PM)

Thanks for dropping by. Been a pretty eventful couple of days in college football and it's going to be a fun weekend. So let's get to the questions.

Sam (Dallas)

Either Florida or Alabama is gonna lose and the winner of that game will be in the National Championship. If Texas were lose to A&M or anybody else who would grab that second National Title spot?

  (2:01 PM)

My guess is TCU since the Horned Frogs are about to play another ranked team. Assuming TCU keeps winning they'd have as good an argument as anyone to be right there if UT falls.

Chase (SC)

Do you think we will see Willie Martinez roaming the UGA sidelines next year? As a UGA fan I feel that he must go. Your thoughts?

  (2:02 PM)

I'm sure there'll be a lot of pressure on Mark Richt to make a change. Not sure how willing he will be to do that, though.

WHich is more likely!!!!!!!!!! WEISS stays at Notre Dame or WEIS IS LET GO and lands in NFL or if will he get ANOTHER SHOT at a COLLEGE JOB???????????

  (2:03 PM)

If Weis is let go, I suspect he'll resurface as an NFL assistant somewhere. I seriously doubt he comes back as some college OC.

David (Manhattan Beach)

Bruce, have you visited Mr. Cecil's BBQ in downtown MB yet? Fantastic ribs, chil and fries.

  (2:04 PM)

I haven't. I was moving away from the beach when I saw that was set to open.. be meaning to try it. Thanks for the reminder!

Morgan Scott (Knoxville, Tennessee)

Hey Bruce, what do you see the punishments being for Janzen Jackson, Nu'Keese Richardson, and Mike Edwards, following their arrests for attempted armed robbery? Rumor has it here in Knoxville that Jackson's charges may be dropped.

  (2:09 PM)

Not sure yet. It's still early. I'd also heard that Richardson and Edwards may be in more trouble because Jackson's role wasn't as prominent in that incident. We'll see. All three were guys that I know UT was high on.It's bad all around for UT. The fact that this all happened as a gas station, and involved Nuke Richardson is surreal considering it ties together two of Kiffin's biggest off-season rants (South Carolina/Alshon Jeffrey and Florida.} It's like Curb Your Enthusism meets Cops.

Jake (Honolulu, HI)

Hey Bruce, Stanford beating Oregon help the overall perception of the Pac10 or hurt the perception of the Pac10?

  (2:10 PM)

I think it shows how competitive the league is so I think it helps it.. assuming Stanford doesn't turn around and get drilled at USC and then lose at home to ND.

Lafayette (Columbus, GA)

Your pick for the Pitt/Notre Dame game?

  (2:10 PM)

I'm going for the upset.

Steve (Chicago)

Bruce, Any chance Iowa goes to a BCS game if they lose to Ohio State and finish 10-2?

  (2:11 PM)

I don't think so. I think Penn State even though Iowa won in Happy Valley is more attractive to bowl reps because of the fan support level.

Ron (Atlanta)

I see on your bowl predictions you have stayed with the Gators as your pick to be in the NC, but Schlabach keeps switching back and forth between Bama and the Gators. Why have you stayed the course?

  (2:12 PM)

I feel like McElroy has been too inconsistent and ultimately I have more faith in Tebow than I do in him right now.

Matt (FL)

So where does Miami fit in, in regards to an at-large bid?

  (2:13 PM)

I have them in the Gator Bowl playing ND.

Marc (Charlotte)

Bruce, is Jacory Harris ready for the UNC pass rush?

  (2:14 PM)

I'm sure he is. The question is, is his O-line? I think Harris and the offense will respond though. His receivers are stepping up now and Cooper is running hard.

JC (Denver)

Auburn-Georgia: who needs the game more? What can we look for in offensive stars during the game?

  (2:15 PM)

I think UGA does. Auburn's already had a nice season compared to expectations. A loss here and UGA is in the middle of a nightmarish season especially with rivals UF on track to repeat and GT looking like a BCS bowl team.

Jim Kelly (Buffalo, NY)

Are Chip Kelly and Brian Kelly related?

  (2:16 PM)

Only in offensive brilliance and media savvy.

Scott Arogeti (Atlanta)

Will UGA ever be as good as the Gators again? In my lifetime? Keep in mind I'm only 25 years old.

  (2:17 PM)

Yeah, it's cyclical. That place has too much going for it (tradition, location, etc) to be down for very long.

Lafayette (Columbus, GA)

Why is Michigan in such turmoil with Rodriquez in only his 2nd year? Most 2nd year coaches have at least another year of grace, but RR is really being hammered.

  (2:19 PM)

I'm surprised there has been as much heat as there has. I get that there has been a culture class of sorts there. But whoever coached there was not taking a team that lost as much as they had on offense and gone 8-4 in 2008. The offense is young and improved quite a bit. The D is disappointing, but people need to be more patient. If this was Year 4, it'd make more sense for the panic.

JW (Boise)

Bruce, who is most likely to be BCS bowl bound; BSU, USC, Ok St, or Penn St?

  (2:22 PM)

Penn State. They'll travel best and have the Big Ten connection which is significant for the backroom bowl biz. Penn State fans would come down for a week and drop money for the hotels and local businesses. That's key.

Urban Meyer (Gainesville)

Should I leave UF after this year?

  (2:22 PM)

Only if ND is offering to double your salary.

Tom (Cincinnati)

Bruce, who wins the BE? Pitt or Cincy?

  (2:23 PM)

mr clean (fla)

what hurts keenum more his style of offense or his conference?2yrs now put up great #'s by gets over lookd

  (2:23 PM)

His conference.

Mike (T-Town)

Do you think Mark Ingram will win the Heisman Trophy?

  (2:24 PM)

He's #1 on my Heisman ballot this week and if he plays well against Auburn and UF I think he'll win it. If not, I think it'll come down to Colt or Keenum.

Brian Kelly (Cincinnati)

Why should I leave Cincinnati - I am building a dynasty!

  (2:25 PM)

Cause at best you'd still always be the second-biggest program in your state.

Panther (Oakland, PA)

What's with all the hatred towards Pitt?

  (2:26 PM)

Me? I had Dion Lewis as my #1 freshman last month and I just put Wannstedt in my top 10 for Coach of the year honors.

Golden Tate (South Bend)

do i leave for the draft this year if Clausen does?

  (2:28 PM)

Definitely something to think about. Also, the 2011 NFL WR draft is likely to be loaded with AJ Green, DeAndre Brown and Julio Jones, who are all the big, fast receivers that often get looked at first by NFL personnel types.

Nick (Albuquerque)

Since you have Mark Ingram #1 on your Heisman list, do you think he is the best RB in the country?

  (2:28 PM)

I do. He's done a lot of damage against some really tough defenses in a tough league.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Assuming Nebraska wins the North, do you think they could pose as a stumbling block for Texas?

  (2:29 PM)

Their D-line is going to give a lot of teams problems. I just don't think their offense could get much accomplished against UT's D.

Daryll Clark (State College, PA)

Should more attention go to my 19 career wins over some fairly average competition or my four losses against the only good teams I've faced in my career?

  (2:31 PM)

Both. You've been a great leader for that program, but you lost some key receivers and your O-line has been overmatched.

Robin (Indiana)

What are the chances that the Hawks win against OSU this week?

  (2:31 PM)

Inexperienced QB playing against that defense? I don't like Iowa's chances to rebound.

Nu'Keese Richardson (Knoxville)

Could you get a hold of Coach Meyer and tell him to call back....PLEASE!!!

Mike (Naper)

Wisconsin kills Michigan this week and home and wins out, finishes 10-2. By traveling great, any shot at a BCS berth or no?

  (2:32 PM)

No, I don't think they're trumping Penn State in that regard.

Tim Tebow (Gainesville)

What do I have to do to win the Heisman? Am I out of the race?

  (2:33 PM)

Have a bunch of 4 TD 0 INT games. Run all over Rolando McClain and hope that Colt McCoy loses.

Paul (Palo Alto)

1. SEC isn't that tough. They play themselves and call themselves tough. 2. Notre Dame will be worse next year, bye Weiss? 3. Give the white stallion some love at the Farm..

  (2:34 PM)

I did put Toby Gerhart in my Heisman top 5 this week.

Zev (Cinci)

If Cinci and Pitt win out until they play each other in december...where do you think each team would be ranked? and if pitt beats cinci how far will Cinci fall? and would they have a chance at an at-large bid to a bcs game

  (2:35 PM)

4 and 7 probably and I doubt the Big East has any shot of getting two BCS teams. Given all of the preseason talk, they're fortunate they still have one assured.

Jake (Honolulu, HI)

Who is the best team Pennsylvania in your Opinion?

  (2:35 PM)

Jason (Bama)

Bama: On upset alert or breakout game this week?

  (2:38 PM)

Kinda, but nah, although MSU has played the other top teams in the SEC tough when they've come to Starkville. Dan Mullen's done a nice job there.

Connor (Gainesville, FL)

Will South Carolina cure my Gator's big play ills?

  (2:40 PM)

I think so.

Big T (State College, PA)

Take your pick and give me reasons why: Penn State or Pitt?

  (2:42 PM)

I'd go with Pitt bc they have the #1 pass rush in the country and PSU's O-line is so shaky.

Panther (Oakland, PA)

Why so harsh toward the Big East? They're probably the 3rd or 4th best conference right now behind the SEC, Pac10 and maybe Big 12. How can anyone argue they're worse than the ACC or Big 10?

  (2:49 PM)

You can argue anything. The bottom of the Big East is worse than either of those two leagues you mentioned. And what would be the Big East's best nonconference win (Cincy at Oregon St?)

mark (palm beach, florida)

Enjoy your work, Bruce. Bobby Bowden thinks the Tennessee three should run laps as sufficint punishment. Your thoughts?

  (2:50 PM)

Zev (Cinci)

you just answered my first question but i have another question to ask you...even if the bearcats are at 7 and pitt at would thye not get an at-large bid...i mean the number 7 team in the nation drops to the gator bowl or the (gasp) meineke car care bowl?

  (2:51 PM)

I think they'd drop out of the top 10. Plus, it's not just about deserving on field, it's also economic factors that drive this boat, right or wrong..

Derek (AL)

Which player and/or team has been the big suprise this year? Disappointment?

  (2:52 PM)

Biggest surprise players: Bill Stull or Jonathan Crompton...disappointment maybe Jevan Snead or FSU defense.

Jake (Honolulu, HI)

Your favorite CFB Movie of all time?

  (2:53 PM)

Maybe North Dallas Forty.

Ted Miller (California)

Everyone come chat with me next!!!!!

  (2:54 PM)

scott (dallas)

if you were a recruit and deciding between TX and OU, who would you pick and why?

  (2:55 PM)

Unfair question..I'm a huge Austin fan. I'd probably pick UT over any other college, but I'm thinking like a grown-up not an 18 year old recruit.

Tom (Cincinnati)

Interesting, LSU loses and not only remains in the top 10, but actually moves up and you say that if Cincy loses to Pitt on the last game Cincy will fall out of the top 10? . . . We really need a playoff system!

  (2:56 PM)

Yes, a playoff system would be great. I'm all for it.

Dandy Don (Morgantown)

Any hope for WVU at Cincy tomorrow night?

  (2:57 PM)

Sure. If you've got Noel Devine and some dangerous runners, you got a shot.

Jonathan Dywer (George Tech)

Where's my Heisman love at?

  (2:57 PM)

I think Nesbitt's probably hogging some of it.

Vinnie (ATL)

Let me run a scenario by you... Say Alabama and Florida end up undefeated. The winner of the SEC Championship game plays an undefeated Texas for the National Title. Now, lets say Cincy, BSU, TCU all end up undefeated. Each of these teams win a BCS bowl. Who is champion? I hate this system...

  (2:58 PM)

Winner of the SEC champ-UT game is going to be the national champ.

Justin (Austin, TX)

Does Mark Ingram get stuffed by Texas a la Reggie Bush in 2005?

  (2:59 PM)

I don't know. Is Ingram going to pitch the ball to a guy who hasn't touched the ball all season too?

Nick (Pittsburgh)

The cuse over northwestern and northwestern over iowa and that is our 2nd worse team! If that is not good enough for you how bout 3 bcs wins in last 4 years and half our conference is currently in bcs standings with 2 in top ten of human polls.

  (3:00 PM)

Good comeback. Nice. Thanks.

  (3:00 PM)

Didn't think the Cuse card has come in handy since Coach P left town.

Chris (Boston)

Can you think of another sport where 90% of it's fan base despise how it chooses it's champion?

  (3:01 PM)

Nope, because this is the only sport where it's champion is "chosen" not decided per se.

Brad (PITT)

you claim your pciking the upset in saturdays game PITT/ND i just want you to know something and maybe if will change your mind. PITT's offense is better then ND's, and uh, ND's defense is worse than their Offense. ND has given up 38 plays of 20 yards or more, ND's offense has only 36 plays of 20 yards or more. Also, interesting tid bit, ND gave up 130 yards rushing to navy IN THE FIRST QUARTER, PITT gave up 129 yards all game. Also, you have Dion Lewis as the best freshamn. still giong with ND?

  (3:03 PM)

Yes, I know.. but that's why it'd be an "upset"... I'm going with a hunch.

Paul Lukas (Not Working Right Now, USA)

Bruce, which do you prefer, old and boring unis (Penn State, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc) or new and ugly (Oregon, Boise State, Virginia Tech, etc)?

  (3:05 PM)

The new. I like Oregon's uniforms mostly. And I really like the new TCU ones.

Chase (Virginia)

No one seems to be talking / writing about Georgia Tech. I understand that they have shown weaknesses in most areas, but the fact remains that they keep winning. Their schedule is not an SEC schedule, but is very respectible. Has PJ brought this team to the next/elite level? If they win out and Texas drops one - do they get BCS Championship talk?

  (3:07 PM)

They're really good and they're well coached, but they're still a one-loss team and did get thumped pretty good at Miami so they're in the back of the top 10. Losing as much as they did on their D-line has hurt some though.

Baron (Large, PA)

Don't forget JBaldwin among those '11 receivers...favorite college player of All-Time? Thanks

  (3:07 PM)

I did. Thanks.. Felt like there were a few other freakish WRs I left out of that bunch.

  (3:08 PM)

Three more questions...

Tony (Boise)

What has to happen for Boise State to get an at large bid?

  (3:09 PM)

The biggest thing to get the BCS bowl for Boise: TCU loses to Utah.

Khoa (Sacramento)

hey Bruce, how's about answering my question for once? Can Standford beat USC?

  (3:11 PM)

Yes, they can. They have a great young QB, an outstanding running game, but I'm not sure they can get re-focused after last week's huge win. As Oregon proved, that's really hard to do when you have to follow up with a road trip.

Alex (Richmond, VA)

Why does parity and competition make the Pac-10 "deep" and the ACC "weak"? If you take a look at the conferences, they are very similar (except for the 9th place ACC team (Wake) beating the 2nd place Pac-10 team (Stanford).

  (3:12 PM)

Interesting point.

  (3:14 PM)

Thanks for all of the questions. If I didn't get to yours send it to me via the blog on ESPN Insider or thru Twitter at BFeldmanESPN. Enjoy the games this weekend.
