Welcome... what do you want to talk about?
do you thank oregonst has a chance at the rose bowl
Yes... The Beavers have a forgiving schedule -- the Washington schools -- before play at Oregon. If they win out, they've got a shot, but need Arizona and USc to lose. In fact, the Wildcats may need to lose twice, which is possible with USC and Oregon ahead.
Alabama or Florida for the SEC Champion? Why?
Alabama... think they're better.
Love that you gave props to Ivan's article on Memorial Stadiums, it was a fantastic read. My question this week: Just how good is Sean Canfield, and why does it feel like he's come from nowhere? Mike Riley really deserves more than the $950k they pay him to coach, these kids seem to perennially play above the level they've been scouted at.
Canfield may be the frontrunner for All-Pac-10 QB... recall that Canfield was the starter in 2007 -- he just wasn't very good. But experience helps. And he learned leadership skills while watching Lyle Moevao handle the offense last year. And, yes,Riley is underpaid, at least compared to so many college coaches who get a lot more.
Ted, what would have to happen for USC to end up in a BCS bowl other than the Rose?
Trojans need to win out ... and maybe see some other teams get hit. Then a BCS bowl needs to pick them... Think the Trojans at 10-2 are pretty appealing.
Hey Ted, Do you see both Harbaugh and Kelly staying at their respective schools this off-season? What about down the road?
This off-season. Yes. Down the road? Who knows? Both seem happy where they are. But if someone offered to double their salary, who knows how they'd react. I'll say this: There are way worse places to live than Eugene and Stanford.
How is USC ranked ahead of Oregon in any poll, computer, or BCS?
Not in my poll... computers obviously view the totality of USC's season as better.... pollsters are just hard to peg.
Why do i not get the love that quiz gets? i have more yards in fewer carries . . . and i was not the lead back in our first two games?
1. TDs; 2. receiving numbers.
How good can Andrew Luck be? Is it crazy to think he'll be drafted ahead of Matt Barkley?
Very good... he's got everything NFL teams look for.. I wouldn't be surprise if Luck and Barkley and maybe even Arizona's Nick Foles are first-round picks after the 2011 season.
Ted--I am feeling a bit at a loss and need some advice. Maybe this is my mid-life crisis. My USC kingdom is crumbling around me. The kids just are not listening anymore. Those "ankle biters" of Sarkasian, Harbaugh and Stoops are making me nervous. Is it time for me to pack it in and just go sit on the beach and meditate? Or do I roll the dice one more time and retool for next year?
Looks to me like you've got a pretty good group coming back in 2010...
Ted, how do you Osweiler doing in his first start at Autzen?
That's a tough place to for a freshman to make his first career start. But even more than the crowd noise, Osweiler will struggle because of a mediocre supporting cast and a fast Oregon defense.
do you ever see the pac10 goin back to the 8 conf game schedules again so we have a shot at gettin 2 teams in a BCS game?
That's a tough one. A lot of coaches want it. But there are a number of reasons the ADs favor a nine-game schedule... My feeling is that for things to change the financial outlook of a number of struggling pac-10 athletic programs will need to improve.
Do you think Taylor Mays is a little overrated?
First, no. Second, I think some of what you're seeing is him playing on a bad leg. Third, some of the analysis you may have seen on him is incorrect. When throws come down in front of him, it doesn't mean he blew a coverage. His job, to make it simple, is to prevent USC from giving up deep passes. How many of those have you seen this year?
Cal's lack of consistent quarterbacking: Product of O-line or Riley?
Both... the offensive line has been disappointing (coaching changes to blame?) and Riley has been hot and cold. I'm also a bit surprised that the WRs haven't stepped up more...the bears mediocrity on offense has been a total team effort.
Do you see Locker entering the draft after the season? What about his baseball future?
If Locker is projected in the first round, he'd like bolt. That said, he could play his way into a top-10 pick if he came back and improved with a second year under Steve Sarkisian. As for baseball, the Angels love him, but Locker insists that football is his first love and that baseball is a backup.
How deep is this USC team? I mean, first 6 of 9 on the road..in a rebuilding year..WOW. Has anyone noticed this?
USC, playing in the nation's deepest conference, has faced the toughest schedule in the nation... and done so with a young, injury-riddled team. Yes, I've noticed.
Ted, we've been transported to a parallel universe with a playoff system! Who do you see winning the championship?
Who is the best college football analyst?
You live in LA.
Who, in your opinion, truly has the best overall Defense? Bama, Florida, TCU, or Texas?
Bama... McClain is just a bad man.
Will USC most likely crush whoever they play in a bowl game when they get a chance to get healthy and a month to prepare
This USC team isn't like the past seven... I'd pick Alabama over the Trojans if they met in the Sugar Bowl...
Can Ohio State win out and get into the Rose Bowl?
Why do people talk so much noise about the pac-10 being good?
Would you prefer they lie? For shame.
Because of your headline-stealing QB, of course... but great game last week.
Is Cal ever going to get fed up with Tedford and 8-5 seasons or are they more concerned with trees?
Cal should be careful if it starts to believe it can do much better than Tedford... that said, Tedford is a big boy and a highly paid one at that... Bears fans have a right to expect more. I thought this was going to be a banner year in Berkeley. I was wrong. I still look at the roster and can't figure out why... guess some guys pass the sight test but not the play test.
Thoughts on the current state of my Sun Devils? Is the program headed in the right direction with Dennis?
This has been a tough year in Tempe... Erickson has recruited well, but the undisciplined play and recent off-field issues probably have raised a few eyebrows... Sun Devils fans have a right to expect a bowl game next year, but the Pac-10 will be even tougher in 2010, so that's not a slam dunk.
Do you think the Buckeyes would be wise to go after a big time recruit at QB this off season?
Every program goes after a big-time QB recruit every year... Not sure I'm ready to give up on Pryor.
Pac 10 - best group of running backs and QB's out of any conference in the nation?
best group of Rbs and YOUNG QBs. But running through the other BCS conferences in my mind, I'm not sure any other conference matches the QBs period. The next two years will be a lot of fun to watch.
I know that hindsight is 20/20, but do you think Mark Sanchez should have started for USC instead of John David Booty? Sanchez only lost 1 game as a full-time starter at USC and was picked fifth in the NFL Draft. Booty meanwhile averaged 2 losses per season as a full-time starter at USC and was drafted 137th in the NFL Draft. Sanchez made the Jets forget about Favre, Booty made the Vikings get Favre. Do you think Pete Carroll gave up 2 national titles for a cheap piece of Booty?
If you're asking me if Sanchez was more talented, yes. And Barkley's rise may be the USC coaching staff doing a little hind-sight on the Sanchez-Booty situation. I think the biggest issue was that USC wouldn't have lost to Stanford in 2007 if Carroll hand yanked Booty when he busted up his throwing hand...and, yes, they probably would have won the national title.
If Oregon and Georgia Tech played, how many points would be scored?
That would be a fun game! More fun to watch than to cover... don't think I could keep up... over-under probably 75-80.
How many carries does Blount receive this week?
No more than a handful... maybe a short-yardage situation.
Do you think Arizona can get by Cal on the road this week?
The Wildcats should win that game, but I'm curious to see how Cal comes out... will Best's injury inspire them? Or will they seem content to play out the string, knowing they will fall well short of preseason goals.
What's more dead: My career or Cincy's NCG hopes?
Your career.. though I loved you in Stand by Me.. storming the beach at Normandy!
Rumors are that Colorado may bolt from the Big 12 to the PAC 10 if the chance arises. Any thoughts? And second...if Hawkins gets the boot, should I apply since I would work for a tenth of the Hawk's salary?
I've said before that someone who knows stuff once told me he thought Utah and Colorado are the two most likely candidates for expansion... but I've never heard anything of substance on the matter.
I hate it when people say the pac-10 is the worst conference in college football. When will we get some respect?
Someone said that? If so, you should appreciate it. It's good to know who's stupid.
Ted,Ducks lost on the farm...Good thing (refocus) or bad thing (no tangible title shot)?
bad thing... they lost. always a bad thing.
Gutsy upset pick Ted, what does Stanford need to do to pull off the win?
It needs to do exactly what it did against Oregon -- balanced, physical play. Curious to see how the Cardinal defense handles the USC offense. Both units have struggled of late -- and USC has a lot of key injuries. Trojans may try to run right at Stanford.
I know I'm putting the cart waaaaay in front of the horse, but thoughts on an Oregon v. Ohio State Rose Bowl...
That is a bit ambitious... as of now, I'd like the Ducks...
Ted, Can I answer Chong-Kai's question? The answer is simple. Play someone, besides some team that has a damn tree for a mascot! How do they even walk in that tree? It blows my mind!
The Tree amuses me.
If you were to look in the future, who do you see Gronkowski playing for next year, Arizona or a NFL team?
That a huge question for the 'Cats... if he comes back, Arizona will be tough to stop on offense... My guess is he wants to go, but won't if he doesn't feel like he's a sure-thing for the first round. Still, back issues are tricky. He may want to get paid sooner rather than later... My guess is he'll bolt.
What are the chances that Nic Grigsby plays against Cal?
Would you vote an undefeated TCU ahead of a 1-loss Texas or the SEC Championship loser?
I'd vote undefeated TCU ahead of one-loss Texas... probably not ahead of the loser of Alabama-Florida, if that's said team's first defeat.
Any chance I can slip by these Beavers?
Always a chance... not expecting it, though. Oregon State is surging and your guys have lost five of six.
True or False..the USC teams under Palmer, Leinhart, Booty & Sanchez were all better then the best Florida Tebow has been apart of over the last 4 years?I say true....
A tough question... it would have been nice to see it on the field.
Any news on when Anthony McCoy comes back, seems like he was Barkleys most reliable receiver.
A huge questions this week... seems like he's going to try... McCoy would present a big matchup problem for the Cardinal...and it was clear that Barkley leaned on McCoy ..
Ted, what do you think the chances of Sonny Dykes leaving Arizona for an HC position are within the next couple of years?
Dykes is good enough that he won't take any job. He should wait for a good situation, not a massive rebuilding project. But my guess is his stock will continue to rise and he'll be in many, many rumor mills.
Any chance for anyone in PAC 10 for Heisman?
Probably not... but it seems to me either Toby Gerhart or Jacquizz Rodgers deserve serious consideration... and if Gerhart turns in a big day vs. USC, he might at least get invited to NY.
what are the odds texas gets blown out of the water in the national championship?
Gosh, I hope not... Florida/Alabama don't strike me as blow-out teams. And we really don't know how good Texas is because of the schedule. The Horns might actually be the best team when we get to January...
Can USC get in the Sugar Bowl?
LA Times writer Chris Dufresne predicted it and he's really smart... so yes!
Folks... I've got to go... CJ Spiller -- you need to concentrate on the ACC, not your Heisman chances.
