Good morning one and all! We've got only an hour to get this fantasy chat all cooked in time for a Thursday NFL kickoff, so let's get started. If you want to play your hidden immunity idol, please do so now. If not, I'll go count the votes...
Snelling or Beanie Wells? Who should I start this week?
AJ - Trade deadline in my league in TOMORROW! Should I trade Steve Slaton for Steve Smith (CAR)? I have MJD, P Thomas and Forsett at RB, and could use a boost at WR.
I'd roll with Snelling. I don't think Turner plays, even though he's talking a good game right now.
Definitely pull the trigger... the Houston backfield has far too many questions, and even though he's not playing up to par, Steve Smith is still the man in Carolina.
With Ronnie Brown done for the year, Ricky William's value skyrockets from a carries standpoint. But should expectations be limited because Ronnie Brown ran the Wildcat so well and Ricky was more of a change of pace back?
It's hard to say... yes, the Wildcat will be different, but if Pat White can step it up and perhaps Davone Bess gets used in the rotation a bit more, maybe Williams simply "becomes" Brown to some extent. Or maybe Miami just runs more traditional sets, where Ricky can excel.
With my boy Orton dealing with some torn ligaments, how much does my stock go down? I'm thinking that maybe I should be sitting on some benches this week.
I might not go so far as to bench Marshall, but yes, he's not a n automatic start with either a hobbled Orton or a inept Simms, or a combo of both.
stewart tonight or slaton monday night?
Stewart tonight. Like offenses more than defenses on short rest.
well i had ronnie brown, now i only have slaton, thomas jones, and forsett in a ppr, what 2 do i start?
Would you sit Moss this week? I feel like Moss is back on track with Brady but Revis still scares me.I have Moss, MSW, Smith (NYG), TJ Housh, and Hester and I need to start two
The thing with the Patriots is that while they often have a bad game or two, they nearly always follow it up with a lights out performance. I think you start Moss and MSW.
AJ, appreciate the insight. I lost Ronnie Brown this week. Any chance J.Norwood or Sammy Morris hold any flex value going forward? I only have Gore and Mendenhall left as my RB's.
I think you're pretty much OK with those two. Morris will get some value back, but not enough to start over Gore and Rashard.
devon bess tonight or steve breaston ?
Breaston. Even though Bess is the most likely Dolphins receiver to have a good night, I don't trust him.
Who should I start between Ochocinco vs. OAK and Miles Austin vs. WAS this week? Both can be hit or miss and both play defenses that don't allow many fantasy points to WR's.
True, but looking at Romo and Palmer, I think it's far more likely for Romo to reach 300, win or lose, than Palmer.
Is the Carolina injury report (specifically, Williams) just a bunch of smoke-n-mirrors or is he really a possible scratch tonight?
I think this is a case where if this game was on Sunday, there would be no issue... it's a Sunday-to-Thursday case and this will most likely go down to how he's feeling in pregame warmups. I think he plays, but certainly Stewart will get plenty of touches too, if not more.
AJ, thoughts on a LM tinkering with a ghost owner's team after the games begin? I saw in a league someone bench a guy AFTER the game because someone on his bench went off.
If it looks like a duck...
Do the Giants find a way to contain Roddy? Ive been benching him for Desean and Welker with no ill effects thus far.
I'd sit White in your case. You have decent alternatives, and it's wise to be cautious with Turner hurt and the NYG D coming off the bye.
Hey...YOU look like a duck!!!!Backup QB for Peyton on my fantasy team should be A) Vince Young or B) Jim Sorgi.
Interesting question. I say Sorgi. You're NOT starting VY unless Peyton gets hurt. If he does, you know Sorgi goes. There's always a chance that Young isn't the starter the rest of the way... a slim one I grant you, but nevertheless a chance.
Who would you rather have for the rest of the season - H. Nicks or B. Edwards? Trying to determine which to give up in trade.
I think in general, you give up the one who yields the best return, but assuming it truly is an either/or, I send Nicks away. NYG will run more and throw less as the season goes on... at least that's what usually happens.
Jim Sorgi? on a fantasy team? I'd rather have Darrel Bevell!
Jokes aside, if you're not starting your backup anyway, why not make it the guy who does play in a worst case scenario?
Which side would you rather have: Chris Johnson or Turner and Westbrook.
Westbrook won't be back, at least not at a level that can really help you. I stick with CJ.
LeSean Mc Coy at the Bears, or L.T. at the Broncos? Still can?t believe I just asked that question.
Wait Issac, I can't believe I'm going with McCoy.
Commish Question. When is the right time for the trade deadline. Ours passed over a week ago, but it seems that most leagues have not. Trying to decide if we should make a change for next year.
There's no "right time" although I prefer either Week 10, because few teams are eliminated by then, and you don't have too many dump trades to deal with, or right before the playoffs start, because once the post-season starts, I think a roster freeze is a really good idea to see who has prepared their team best.
So, given your recent reply on Marshall, do you try to deal Marshall for another top (15?, 10?) WR for your leagues trade deadline?
I probably would. The fact is this team has been steadily declining on both sides of the ball, and even though the increased dependency on Marshall may have hidden that fact to his fantasy owners, I do have great concern.
Prediction: I will end the season ahead of Manning, Brees, and Brady in fantasy points. Go ahead, call me crazy. I'll prove you wrong!
Go for it, bag boy!
HELP i need your advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! trade deadline is tomarow and i need to know if i should try to trade bush for a better flex option while his value is high... please get back to me
Bush is getting the goal-line work, and I tend to think that continues. If he were simply scoring only on screen passes from 30 yards out, I'd be skeptical, but I think this is a calculated effort.
Commish Trade Question:Team A (5-5): Gets Boldin. Has Gore, MJD, D Will, J Stew, V Jax, Smith (NYG), BurlesonTeam B (3-7): Gets Mendenhall. Has LT, Jacobs, K Smith, Colston, D Jax, HesterThe owners are brothers. One guy in the league is complaining bc he thinks the guy giving Boldin is just trying to help his brother. What's his beef?
His beef is that the "better team" is getting help. However if you switch the records, and trade the same players, he'd complain as well, IMO. Much ado about nothing.
Did I lose my day job??
It's a bruised lung, dude. Sit and rest for a bit.
PLAYOFF HELP: This is my first year doing fantasy football ever and I am currently first. Keep reading about players with bad playoff schedules, for me this is brady, moss, ray rice. They have played well against tough opponents recently, do i trust this for the playoffs or make some trades?
You don't trade away guys like Brady or others who excel regardless of the opponent. What you do look for is to trade those WR3/WR4 types who you are always going back and forth over to get perhaps a lesser guy even who you know has a MUCH more favorable couple of matchups come Week 15-16.
I got tough one for you AJ James Casey for the Texans seems to be guy that replace owen dainels do you think he will be productive the rest of the season
Clearly, it's not going to be Dreessen. Sure, he's worth a flier if you have the roster room... after all, he could turn into a 3-4 catch a game guy. But I'm not cutting Witten for him, you dig?
Hey AJ, Keeper league question for you. 12 team keeper, can keep 2 players year to year. I am in first place and just lost Ronnie Brown for the year, the last place team has brandon jacobs and offerend me a trade of brown for jacobs straight up because he wants to use one of his keeper slots on brown, so of course I accept. Now the league manager is throwing a fit because it helps me this year, and concedes things for the last place 1-9 team that has no shot already anyway for anything this year. The LM is also in third place and I'm thinking is trying to block this trade for personal reasons. Is this a fair deal?
Totally fair. That's one of the best parts about keeper leagues... even if you are 1-9, you're not ignoring the league and continuing to try and upgrade your team for the future. This is sour grapes for an LM who clearly doesn't understand what he's doing.
AJ, What's your long term opinion of Shady ? Is he keeper worthy over Slaton ? PPR scoring
Westbrook is pretty much done in Philly, IMO. He's at that age where the Eagles usually say so long. As such, I do like Shady.
Which Defense is better to use this week Giants or Saints?
I go NYG. The lack of Turner, presumably, and a bye week to prep? Plus NO should always be expected to go up big and play prevent late.
Whats your opinion on starting a def that is playing youre Qbs team. Im planning on starting Aaron Rogers and SF Def. Is this counterproductive or should I go Denver Def
Look at it this way... if Rodgers throws for 300 yards and two scores, are you happy? Yes. If he does that but also throws two INTs are you happy? No. Unless of course, you have the defense that caused those picks...
How important is having a backup QB rostered after a bye week? Can I just ride Schaub the rest of the way and stack my roster w/ RB/WRs?
As I wrote in this week's Fantasy Newsletter - look for the link on the fantasy homepage - after the bye week you can shed your extraneous backups and reach for handcuffs to protect yourself for the playoffs. But I wouldn't leave myself completely unprotected at QB or RB, unless there are liberal pickup rules in the post-season.
Trade deadline Tonight! HELP I BEG YOU>. who would you rather have the rest of the way: Antonio Bryant (health issue), or Chambers?
Chambers (YUK!)because of health issue. I was really high on Bryant in the pre-season, but that injury has been his bugaboo.
I had Brady in the Snow in 2007 in the first round of my playoffs and had Warner as a backup. I did not use the backup that year and Brady had his only poor performance all season.......I was eliminated from the playoffs. I would keep a backup QB for the weather this time of year.
Although, to be fair, go ask what few Raiders fans remain if Brady can perform in the snow.
Hey AJ - Stretch Run : Warner or Manning ?
Warner - not because I think he's better, but because of that Colts tradition of benching Peyton -at least partially- towards the end of the season.
Need a a#3 WR. My options are #31, 32 and 33 in ESPN's rankings this week. Kevin Walter, Steve Breaston, Roy Williams. I'm going to the Monday Night Texans game, so I may just start Walter so that I have 2 players to watch live. Better logic than a 3 sided coin flip, right?
No, it's not logic at all. Which I'm fine with, since it's fantasy, and if you want to enjoy the game more with a player on the field, go for it. From a strict fantasy strategy standpoint, though, it just so happens I still like Walter of the three.
If you had to pick from Dallas (Wash), Cin (Oak) or Jack (Buf) to win this week, who do you take? I am leaning towards Dallas, but my gut says Jacksonville with all the turmoil in Buffalo.
Cincy. I tend to steer clear of divisional games in Survivor pools and with a coaching change, all bets are off on how the team responds.
Would you go with Vernon Davis or Greg Olsen this week?
Olsen. Eagles defense is not anywhere near full strength and as such, I think the Bears can score on them, even if Cutler throws 3 picks in the process out of habit.
Please help me! I lost both Brown and Benson last Sunday. My league is PPR and sitting at 5-5, I can't afford a slip-up. Could you rank the following WW options between: Bush, Beanie, Betts, Scott, Snelling and Scott. Thanks!!!
Bush (Reggie)SnellingScott (grab for game-time call)WellsBush (Michael)Betts
Predict who has the better night please, Deangelo or J Stew?
I say Stewart, if forced to make the call.
Choose three: OchoCinco, Housh, MSW, Forsett, Maroney? PPR League
85, MSW, Forsett.
Keeper league, your in first, who do you want: G.Jennings (2010-rd4) or Sid Rice (rd12)?
Rice is better value.
Braylon Edwards or Mike Wallace?
Edwards. I know the Pats D will be geeked up, but Pitt is likely to give it to Mendenhall 30 times.
I was offered Witten for Shiancoe. What say you?
Take it. Don't look back.
Pitt running it 30 times? Did you watch their last game?
Did you? Those were Bengals (#2 run defense) This week it's KC (
Is Santonio Holmes that much better than Lee Evans where you would give Favre for him? Because of Bowe - evans is now my #2, but could trade favre for Holmes and Eli
Now that there's a new boss in Buffalo, perhaps there'll be a focus on offense that makes sense. I'd be tempted to ride Evans.
Drop Bowe for Lance Long? Especially if I'm a long shot at making the playoffs?
Without a doubt. Long may not have another 8 catch day, but 5 isn't out of the question. Better than holding on to a zero for a month.
In honor of Ken Ober... let's have a speed round to end the chat!
Category: Start, Sit or Indian Food.
Pick one from Boldin, S Smith (car), and Calvin J?
bench Benson for Kevin smith?
Yup. Cutback Suarez for me.
McNabb at "home" in Chi-town.
Pick me a DEF this week: Lions, 49ers, Dolphins
DET - Browns are that bad.
Pick two: Braylon, Hester, Avery
Chambers or Donnie Avery
Witten or Fred Davis at TE?
Betts or Hightower?
Need 1. Pierre Thomas, Beanie Wells, or Justin Forsett?
This week, Forsett.
Pick one for my final WR spot - Coles - Collie - Britt
J.Stew or MBIII
B. Jacobs, MSW, Boldin, Autin....PICK 2
Who sits - Jennings, Megatron, Marshall?
Megatron, but real close with him and Marshall.
Beanie or Moreno?
For rest of season: Chambers or Evans
Thomas Jones, Moreno, or Snelling?
Lynch or Bush going forward?
ricki or Ray rice??
pick 2: ward, smith (NY), maclin
