Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:00 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks! We're coming off a huge week with Pacquiao-Cotto and we have another great fight Saturday with Kessler-Ward, so we have much to discuss. Couple of things -- new notebook is posted, new blog is posted and so is the news story on the PPV numbers for Pacquiao-Cotto. So let's get to it.

Ruben (Houston, TX)

Now that Pac has accepted and Freddie has gone on record saying 50-50 will get it done, can we expect any other hold ups for this fight to happen?

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

The sides will start discussing Pacquiao-Mayweather in the next couple of days I believe. They'll go back and forth and back and forth I am sure. Ultimately, I believe they will settle on 50-50 for the biggest money fight in history.

Roel Torres (Somerville, MA)

Is Cotto a shot fighter? Should it have been stopped earlier?

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

I don't think Cotto is a shot fighter but, yes, the fight probably should have been stopped a round or two sooner.

Garth (CT)

Greetings Dan, Hope you are ready for a heavy dose of Pacquiao/Mayweather Chat.

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

I'm ready baby!

SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)

Mayweather vs Manny. Who wins and how close is it?

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

Let them make the fight first.

Horn (Vegas)

Where would you rank a potential Mayweather/Pacquiao fight in terms of all-time mega fights? Top 5?

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

For money, it will be No. 1. But in history, it won't be No. 1. There will never be a bigger fight than Ali-Frazier 1.

Josh (Iowa)

Nice plug from Jim Lampley during the Santos-Foreman fight last Saturday.

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Yup, Lamps gave the Freak chat a shoutout, which was nice to hear.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Who do you like in the Ward-Kessler fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I'm very much looking forward to the fight. I'm a big Ward fan. Great kid, excellent fighter and a hard worker. However, I think Kessler probably pulls out a decision in a good fight.

Kyle (South Plainfield, NJ)

If a fight between mayweather and pacman where and when do you believe it would take place

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I believe it will happen in May 2010. Where is open for discussion. I know there is serious interest from the Dallas Cowboys about having it at their stadium. There is also serious interest from Los Angeles and you know Las Vegas is always in the mix on a mega fight.

RS3 (Stamford CT)

Buy or Sell: Manny vs Floyd could happen in the Jerry Jones stadium?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Buy. It is very poissible.

Justin (Durham, NC)

Assuming Hopkins and Jones both win, how does their fight date of March 13 affect the scheduling of Mayweather-Pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

It doesn't. Jones-Hopkins 2 will be March 13, probably at MGM Grand as long as they both win their upcoming bouts. Pac-Mayweather will likely be in May.

Brian (Toronto)

Any chance Paq/Floyd happens at Yankee Stadium ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Zero chance because of the very heavy New York tax burden.

Joel (Eastchester, NY)

Dan, any word on Pascal-Diaconu 2, is it confirmed it will be on ESPN Classic?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

At the moment, we do not have clearance on Classic for the fight. However, we will carry it live on ESPN360.com and it will probably run via slight delay on ESPN Deportes.

Jeff (Redondo Beach, CA)

I was glad to hear that Vazquez-Marquez is close to happening. Is it just me or do you think that Vazquez still needs another tune up fight before this war?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

There won't be another tune-up fight and that is not necessary. Both guys could lose to anyone at this point, so don't take any chances. Make the big fight and get paid.

State Penitentiary (Texas)

Don't ask, still here

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Thank you for the weekly James Kirkland update.

Floyd Mayweather Sr (Taco Bell Drive Through)

Did Manny passed the mandatory drug test last weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

I spoke with Keith Kizer from the Nevada commission yesterday via email and asked him about the test results. They will probably be back on Monday.

Tom (Reading, United Kingdom)

There's lots of great boxing this weekend but one fight that I am very interested by is Gennady Golovkin-Ishe Smith. How good is Golovkin he had a stellar amateur career can he make it to the top at Middleweight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

Ishe injured his ankle and that fight is off.

Pinchos (NY)

Hi Dan. I enjoy your chats. amazing fight last Sat. Do you know how much Cotto and Pacquiao weighed just before the fight? Can't find any news about it.

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

I don't know. Neither man would weigh before the fight on the HBO unofficial scale.

Kris Krepps (Grand Rapids, MI)

Your were the only so-called expert that picked Cotto, Nice pick by the way. Now were all going to have to listen to you kiss Pacman 's butt, and talk about how he's going to beat Mayweather.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

For your info, the media picks were basically split between Manny and Cotto.

Tom (Reading, United Kingdom)

Is Humberto Soto done at Super Featherweight now?

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

He is probably done. He is moving up to 135 for a fight fight with Jesus Chavez on Dec. 19.

JT (TN)

Who are the "prime, elite welterweights" as you say, that Pacquiao is knocking out?

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

There's this guy named Miguel Cotto, you may have heard of him.

E.L. Trujillo (Mile High City)

Dantonio Montana,Wow! I think we all now know how resilient Manny can be. Busted eardrum, both cheek bones swollen, and he still sings La Bamba after the fight. Can you confirm that a fourth fight will happen in February between Vasquez and Marquez?Thank you for the great article on Ross Greenburg's boxing influence.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

Manny also sang at the press conference. First time I have ever seen that. Vazquez-Marquez is likely for late February. I have some stuff about it in today's notebook, so check it out.

Kevin O'Neill (Bronx)

I read that you believe Mike Jones is not getting the respect he deserves from the media and TV. Why, then, is he not in your top 10 at welterweight? Make a statement and call out his greatness before you are forced to join the bandwagon!

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

He's not in the top 10 because he has not accomplished anything yet. He's a prospect, but a promising one. Rack up a couple of wins against legit guys and I think he'll be in the top 10 before too long.

missy (philippines)

how do you rank manny pacquiao among the all time greats

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

I don't do all-time rankings while a guy is still active, but Manny is clearly a top 20 all-time fighter at this point and can move up as time goes on.

Gene (Washington)

D$, did you feel that Bob Arum was out of line when he flipped you off after the Foreman fight or was it good natured fun!

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

It sure wasn't good natured fun. He vigorously gave me the finger after the fight. He was out of line, but whatever. If he takes my opinions and commentary so seriously, then good for me. Bob was just being Bob. A few hours later, all was well as I had a bite to eat with Arum after the fight.

Darin (KC)

I'm assuming Showtime is showing only the Kessler-Ward fight tomorrow. Am I correct or are they squeezing another fight in?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Just the one fight.

James (Austin)

Why was Arum mad at you during the santos-foreman fight last saturday?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Because I had panned the fight for being on the ppv card when Bob had over and over promised a stellar undercard.

Joe (San Jose)

1.25 Million ppv buys for Pac-Cotto. arent you a bit disappointed, Arum was hoping for 1.5

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Disappointed? Are you insane? Arum always shoots for the moon. For that fight to do 1.25 million is tremendous.

freaks (mgm grand)

We want Floyd! We want Floyd!!!

BJ (LA)

Is Chavez jr Arums new Tye Fields?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Chavez isn't that good.

BJ (LA)

You know the undercard sucks when Foreman-Santos was the most interesting fight of it.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan,I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about the Pac vs Cotto fight amongst the freaks today. I just want to give you much thanks and your due props for the great coverage before during and after the fight. I really enjoyed the live coverage with Kiernan, Darius, and you. I simply couldn't afford the $55.00 for the ppv but with your reporting and some of your peers I felt like I didn't miss a thing. Thank you for the effort.....it is truly appreciated!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

Thanks.

Brody (New York)

Any word on possibility of Dawson in Super 6?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

Nothing official, but highly unlikely.

Greg (NJ)

D$$,I like seeing that you guys are hosting the Showtime FightCamp 360 video on the ESPN Boxing home page. I don't recall this in the past with any of the HBO 24/7 videos. Is this something to expect with 24/7 in the future?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

We have also had episodes of 24/7. Usually, HBO makes the first episode of 24/7 available and we have run it in the past.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Will we be treated to a RAD after the Kessler vs Ward fight tomorrow night?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

Yes, there will be an RAD chat tomorrow afer Kessler-Ward. The link is on the home page. We'll get rolling after the fight, probably around 11:15 pm ET. Hope all the Freaks can make it.

Dre (Miami, FL)

Did you hide from David Haye when he was in Vegas for the luncheon?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

Of course not. I went and spent some time talking to him. I'll probably write a story on that interview next week.

Pribs (Bethlehem, PA)

Keeping Mosley #1 at welterweight is why your rankings are the most legit.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Thanks. Manny and Floyd are great fighters too, but Shane has accomplished more at 147 than either of them right now and he deserves his spot.

E.L. Trujillo (Mile High City)

DTM - The word around the camp fire is that Hopkins may move up in weight to challenge David Haye. If true, how would this work out in 2010? thx.,

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

Long way to go for that. BHop was on a media call yesterday talking about the possibility. Furst, he would have to beat Ornelas and Jones. Then maybe he could fight Haye, who would also have to defeat Ruiz in the mandatory. It's great to talk about but it's a long way from reality.

chris (okc)

Dan, can you explain to me why it makes sense to have the fight in vegas as opposed to Dallas? Normally you'd call me an idiot for suggesting that a fight be outside of vegas, but that would be an epic crowd, for an epic fight and surely the live gate would be MUCH higher when there could be 100k people in there on fight night? Am I wrong?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

I don't think it makes more sense to have it in Vegas. I think having it in a place like Dallas would huge, especially in that stadium. It would rock and be a massive, massive event.

Jonathan (Northern VA)

If you were surprised, were you more surprised my May-JMM doing 1.05 million or the Pac-Cotto fight doing 1.25?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

Mayweather doing 1.05 in a bad matchup.

Shawn (Tempe)

Any chance of making manny-mayweather a 45-45 split with winner getting the extra?

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

That could be one way they work out the split.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Two 1 million+ PPVs in the same year for the first time in a decade. Not bad for a dead sport.

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

And the first time ever that two PPVs went a million-plus in back-to-back cards.

Matt (portland, OR)

After 1.25 million buys is boxing still dead?

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

It never was and never will be. That's just crap from idiots who have no clue.

joe (commack, NY)

Dan, you said the floyd-Manny fight will definitely get made. You don't see a chance Floyd backs out by demanding too high of a split. He could demand 60% - which won't get it done - but claim all along that he realy wants to fight him

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

I think when it's all said and done the fight will get made. It's too big not to happen. And if either side messes it up and takes a different fight, there will be a public revolt against the fighter who screwed it up. The public demands this fight and demands it right now. Give the people what they want and both sides will make gobs of money.

Brooks (Cleveland, OH)

I don't understand why Arum was giving you the finger - just because that fight wasn't quite as horrid as everyone expected still doesn't make it good or worthy of the PPV undercard of anything that big.

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

Becuase Bob can be a very petty man.

Brian (Los Angeles, CA)

Dan - did you like my shout-out to you at the Pacquiao Cotto weigh in last Friday? I was there early in line at the MGM Grand Garden, nobody noticed who you were but I yelled "Dan Rafael, ESPN baby!!!" You turned and pointed. Everyone in line said "who"....boxing novices - I told them read the notebook LOL!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Nice.

Dave (Alberta, Canada)

Any news on Adamek's opponent in Feb??

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Still TBA at this point.

Jackson (IA)

Hey Dan...will this be the rare instance that you're actually rooting for someone (or against someone!) in a big fight? I understand if you can't say here...a "no comment" will say it all...

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

Believe me or don't, but I have no rooting interest whatsoever in a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. May it be a great fight and the best man win.

Ruben (Houston, TX)

Do you buy the talk that Diaz was not serious about his fight with Paulie? I was at that fight and quite frankly thought he looked as serious as any other fight I have seen him in.

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

No I don't buy it. It's called an alibi.

Pribs (Bethlehem, PA)

Buy/Sell the Seinfeld Reunion show won't be able to match the Table Read.

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 PM)

Tough call. I have been loving this season of Curb.

Hinrich (German)

Hey Dan, we have da decent little card here in germany. Erdei vs. Fragomeni and Gutierrez vs. Tajbert could be entertaining fights. Who do you pick?

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

I agree it's an interesting card. I really don't have a stong opinion on who will win either fight. But I can see Erdei outboxing Fragomeni, who is pretty average.

Pribs (Bethlehem, PA)

Press Row should have given Arum the collective finger midway through the Chavez fight. A shame that that slot was wasted.

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

That was the worst semi-final in ppv history, on paper and in the ring.

Frank Booth (Lumberton, NC)

If Hopkins were to fight Adamek, would you give the old man a shot?

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

Of course. I learned my lesson long ago to never count out Bernard Hopkins.

Shower Door (Cotto's shower)

HBO finally gave me some air-time thanks to Cotto's butt!

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

Hilarious.

Rob (California)

Miguel Cotto deserves alot of respect , people can say the fight 'should' have stopped but let a man go on his own terms, not many men walking this earth could do what he did

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

Agreed.

Justin (Vegas)

Dan can yo help me understand in negotiations for the pacman fight who represents floyd....golden boy, ellerbee or al haymon

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy will represent Floyd in negotiations with Top Rank. Al Haymon and Leonard Ellerbe are Floyd's advisers. They tell Richard the kind of deal they want and Richard reports back to them.

Jeff (Phoenix)

Dan,It's unbelievable to me that Manny can compete at such a high level even with all of the distractions throughout his camp...I have seen other lose focus with far less going on.

Maya (NY)

Better fighter of this era: Floyd or Pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

Ask me after they fight each other.

Jesse (Washington, DC)

Thoughts on Berto's chances to beat Mosley?

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Berto has a very good chance of course. He's fast, he can punch, he's younger and he's been more active.

Sean (Richmond, VA)

How about a mythical matchup question. Prime Duran vs Pacman?

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

No idea, but wouldn't that be fun?

Billy (Patchogue, NY)

What do you think Pacquiao's chances are of being named SI's Sportsman of the Year? Not too many candidates as strong as him in 2009.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

That would be a great pick.

Devale (Chicago)

If the contracts for the super 6 clearly state the parameters for the selection of judges and refs how did it get screwed up??

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 PM)

Good question. But it's been worked out.

Dre (Miami Beach)

Why can't Pacman just come out and say that he want's Floyd, instead of referring questions to the promoter?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Why can't Floyd just come out and say he wants Pacman? It's all a game of posturing.

Khalil (Atlanta, GA)

Dan, if signed, Hatton-Marquez would be on regular HBO (not PPV), correct?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Regular HBO is what they are talking about.

bill (pgh)

any chance of US tv for Khan-Salita?

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

There is no US TV.

Tom (Hollywood, California)

Dan,as for a fight venue for Mayweather/Pac I don't think you can beat a custom built temporary 30,000 seat outdoor stadium. Brings back memories of Holmes/Ali and Holmes/Cooney. I was at both fights and it was a spectacle to see. Hope it happens.

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

That is also a possibility in Vegas for the fight.

Brian (DC)

Let's say the fight gets made for May 2010 on HBO PPV with a full 24/7 campaign... what would be your early ballpark figure for PPV buys?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

I think that fight does 2 million plus with ease.

Stevie (Boulder, CO)

Does the promoter fly Burt Sugar out to the events so that he can do press for it around the country, I don't see where he is affiliated with a newspaper/website?

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

Bert is hired by HBO PPV to do press for the fight around the country. He works it too. He's up early in that press room and there late. Then he finds his seat at the bar.

Aaron (West Fargo ND)

Just read the Notebook .... one of the best I've read. So many good fights upcoming, so much to be excited for, it's a GREAT time for boxing, and even great time for boxing fans!

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

We have an excellent schedule on the way and we've had some good fights that just past too. The promoters keep making good fights and the network keep buy good fights and we'll be just fine.

Gus (Miami)

Do you think the weight will be an issue for the Pac/Mayweather fight? I think it should be at 147. Pac showed that he can hang with anyone at 147.

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

I think it will be 147, which is what it should be.

Sean (NJ)

has Vitali-Johnson been picked up yet?

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

Yes, it will be shown on HBO on same-day tape as part of the Diaz-Malignaggi 2 telecast.

Han (California)

The Ring's Doug Fischer disagrees with their decision on putting Pacquiao at #! at 147. Quote " I agree with Dan Rafaela??s welterweight rankings on ESPN.com"

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

I always thought Dougie was a smart guy. Now, I know it.

mike (tampa)

is there any venue for the abraham direll super 6 second round matchup

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Not yet.

Jeff (Phoenix)

Dan,Any word on who Dawson fights next?? Seems like he's been in a long holding pattern lately with Johnson and Tarver

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

They are going to wait to see what happens with the Pascal-Diaconu rematch. If Pascal wins, I think they will look to make that fight next.

Nick (New York)

Dan whats your interest level for Hatton-Marquez? To be honest I could care less as the fight means nothing and both guys seem to been running on fumes at this point in their careers.

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

I like it actually. You have to big name fighters both coming off losses. But why not fight each other? I think it would be a pretty good fight and I'm always cool with big names fighting each other, especially when there is no obvious other fight for either guy. So what the hell?

Reuben (Philly)

DTM, is Pac a shoo-in for his 3rd FOY award, and Roach his 4th TOY?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

It looks that way. I think Pacquiao will be FOY again and will also have the KO of the year (for Hatton). And Freddie right up there also.

Ian (Pembroke Pines, FL)

Have you ever seen Bert Sugar without the hat and the cigar?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Yes.

Matt (Las Vegas)

Dan, I ran into Zab out in Vegas during fight week, and like he told you he said their sights are on Urango. I think that would be an awesome fight for FNF, any chance of that happening?

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

I also talked to Zab in Vegas and that was the fight he mentioned to me as well. It's probably not doable on ESPN2 because of the money. So unless Showtime or HBO picked it up, I would see them putting it on PPV if the fight got made.

steven (louisville)

any word on tavoris cloud?

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

Check your milk carton.

Jason (Boston, MA)

I agree with you on Hatton-Marquez, just because these guys won't be making mega-fights anymore doesn't mean they need to hang it up.

tom (Kingston)

Great stuff Dan just confused over your ranking Manny behind Shane. Because of past efforts . It should be based on recent events Mosely hasn't fought in what over a year. His last two fights were a win over cheater Margarito and a loss to Cotto. Manny destroyed Cotto, and Hatton and Oscar. If you are basing it on ancient history thats one thing if not I cant see how Shane is higher.

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

In the divisional rankings, Shane is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more accomplished than Manny. Simple as that.

Jason (Boston, MA)

We're almost an hour in and no mention of the LC?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Justin (Vegas)

Boxing is a great sport but fights like jone/hopkins are so dumb, why cant hbo use the money to make a meaningful good fight? Do they really think the public wants to see hopkins/jones 2? No one I know does......Ugh

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

If you knew anything about the business you wouldn't post such nonsense. HBO isn't paying a dime for Jones-Hopkins 2. It's a PPV fight and the promoters are on the hook. HBO will do its job of marketing and producing the fight and airing a delay and taking it's percentage of the ppv for doing its work. But it doesn't put up a dime for the purses. That would be different if it bought the fight for the network, but it's not. So get a clue.

Dre (Miami, FL)

Valero says if he lands the shots that Cotto landed on Pacman early that Pac goes to sleep.

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

Wonderful. How about he actually fight more than once a year and not get arrested? Then maybe I will give a crap what he says.

Braindamaged2too (The Asylum)

Big D,Haven't heard yet but how was Manny's after-fight concert? And how many tickets did he sell for that?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

I didn't go to his concert. If he was playing with KISS I may have showed up.

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

For a look at Manny's concert, check thsi out:http://www.youtube.com/user/TheEMCvideo#p/a/u/0/t186O7GQnNw

Jesus (Yonkers, NY)

They should put Floyd vs Pacman on national TV I am sure they could get 15o mils in advertisements. A saturday night on NBC, CBS, ABC..

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

$15 million in advertisement is chump change on a fight that will generate probably $150 million.

Rich (NJ)

Your beard smells like Pacquiao's feet

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

When have you smelled my beard or Pacquiao's feet? Seek help.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Wouldn't Valero fight in Dallas in the Paquiao/Mayweather undercardsince he's only licensed to fight there?

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

He can't in the US because of his DWI arrest. Can't get a visa.

David (Reno)

Thanks for sticking it to Arum for shafting us on the undercard. The casual fans who watched could have been treated to 3 hours of exciting action, but instead only got 45 minutes of terrific action. Keep it up.

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

I took the finger just for you and the Freaks.

Ty (Philly)

I read an article that Floyd was considering a tune up with Matthew Hatton among other potential opponents, any truth to that?

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Complete nonsense.

alan (South Africa)

Hey Rich, the smell could be worse. Could be your feet.

Joe (San Diego)

You didnt go to the concert but you got the sneak preview at the press conference. ESPN news had the conference on live and i thought, there is no one like PacMan. Arum took the words right out of my mouth. He is so humble and gives the impression he does not fully grasp the magnitude of his stardom.

dave (Detroit)

Dan, any possibility that Kessler/ward turns into a repeat of Froch/Dirrell? I have only seen 1 Ward fight and don't really know about his style.

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Ward won't stink it out like that. Ward will engage more.

Randy (NYC)

Good job on the media to basically corner Mayweather. He has no where to run, no one to fight... the fight must happen

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

You're right. If he goes elsewhere, he will suffer the wrath of the media and public worldwide. He will be vilified.

Joe (San Diego)

I was hoping for another after fight hotel visit interview with Pac. Im sure you would have enjoyed that?

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Wasn't in the cards. I had a much earlier flight home this time.

jr (orlando)

i am getting married may 8th. i pray to god the fight doesnt land on that date !!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

You'll have to postpone the wedding. Or show it on the big screen at your reception.

Dre (Miami, FL)

Why does the British media treat Floyd as a bigger celebrity than the US Media?

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

Because they buy his BS more than we do.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Hey Dan, where did you, Kieren and Bert do after the fight. When I asked Kieren doing to fight he told me "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

LOL. I covered the press conference and did several TV hits with Brian Kenny. Then I joined Ross Greenburg and Bob Arum and several others at a dinner/post fight gathering at a restaurant in the MGM.

Greg (cincinnati, OH)

what time is the Ward/Kessler weigh in?

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

I believe at about 6:10 p.m. ET. We are supposed to carry it live on ESPNEWS and then I am supposed to be on ESPNEWS afterward to discuss the fight.

Rick (SpringTown, Ca)

DTM- Are you gonna be in Oakland for the crowning of Ward? Going to the fight.. SUUUUUPPER PUMPED. Wondering if im gonna meet the King Freak? You heard it here first.. Ward by stoppage!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

I will not be there. And it's a good thing. I have had a brutal cold the past few days. I am doing this chat with a runny nose and aching sinuses. See what I do for the Freaks?

chris (oklahoma)

Dan, I hate to admit this, but I missed the Pac/Cotto fight this past weekend. My wife is all the way pregnant, and our first son was born after Pac/Diaz fight. She was having contractions just like last time and everything, yet we still haven't had our child a week later. Is my freak status totally revoked?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

You're on probation.

Justin (Vegas)

H1N1 cant even stop Dan the Man

Bgomez (Palm Beach, FL)

Agree with Rick. Ward by stoppage. Kessler may be overrated. Good fighter of course, but not my favorite for the super-six tourney.

christian (Fairfax,VA)

Dan, what happens to the Ring 140 pound title now that Manny is going to move up?

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Presumably, it will be vacated.

Sean (SF)

Have you heard anything about ticket sales have been for Ward/Kessler?.....I'm worried that they might have priced out the regular fans seeing as how Oakland is a very blue-collar city.

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Spoke to Dan Goossen, the promoter, yesterday and asked him what kind of crowd he expected. He said 10,000-plus.

Han (California)

When will Nonito Donaire fight next? Will it be at 115 or 118?

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Nonito is supposed to fight on Feb. 13 in Vegas on the next Pinoy Power PPV that Top Rank is planning. He would defend his interim title at 115 pounds.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

A Kessler stoppage wouldn't be all that surprising tomorrow, would it?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

No it wouldn't. I think this fight is the kind where I can see just about any outcomes.

John (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Hasn't the bulk of Shane's work (other than his losses), been at 135 or 154?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

Why don't you go look at his resume.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

D$, was the Cotto-Pacquiao fight a little too one sided to get FOY recognition? I dont remember being as thrilled in a fight this year as I was for the first half of that fight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:14 PM)

It was great for the first four rounds. But the rest wasn't great enough to be the FOY. It can certainly be an honorable mention, but too onesided to be the winner.

Dan Rafael
  (1:14 PM)

Hey guys -- check this out. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4674275

Mike (Boston, MA)

Dan, which restaurant did you, Bob, Ross and others eat at? Craftsteak? Joel Robuchon? Shibuya?

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

Craftsteak, one of the best places in Vegas.

Pete (PA)

Dan, are you going to be in Philly for the BHOP fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

Yes, I am planning to do that and then go from there to AC for the Williams-Martinez fight.

Sean (SF)

Ha...well thanks for putting the question up anyway....I suggest that everyone in the Bay Area shows up to root for Andre if they can....Kessler has fought in sold-out soccer stadiums, so we need a good showing

Dre (Miami, FL)

Did Kenny go a little overboard in declaring the first part of the fight on the level of Hagler/Hearns?

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

Brian was a tad excited. The first four rounds were excellent, but to me, they are not even in the same ballpark as Hagler-Hearns.

Han (California)

Could you see Donaire rematching Darchinyan if they both get by their next opponents?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

I think the sides are more open to that rematch now than they have been. I think it's possible next year.

Toby (Houston)

Stronger puncher: PBF or Manny?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

Obviously, Manny.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Do you think that the 1.25 million buys and $70 million in domestic would hurt Mayweather's pride? That Pacquiao is a bigger draw than he is?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

They have both proven themselves as draws, which is why this should be a 50-50 fight.

Tully (Stockton, CA)

How impressed were you by Pacquiao's chin? Before the Cotto fight, I thought PBF would handle Pacquiao, but now not so sure...

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

When I was on ESPNEWS after the fight, I said the most impressive thing to me about Pacquiao in the fight was the chin he showed. He took some bombs from Cotto, left hooks, uppercuts and he never was in any trouble.

Big John (Cyberspace)

Were you offended when Bob Arum flipped you off after the Foreman fight, or was it just playing around?

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

To be offended, you have to give a crap. I don't expect much from Bob, so I wasn't surprised. Just disappointed that he is that much of a jerk sometimes.

mike (tampa)

is there a venue for the second round of the super 6 with dirrell and abraham maybe msg?

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

The date being tossed around for Abraham-Dirrell is Jan. 23. If it is on that date, it won't be at MSG because that is the date of the HBO card there with Luevano-JM Lopez.

David (Winston-Salem)

Dano! What now happens to the large and expensive display screen Top Rank had made for Cotto-Pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

It goes back to the owners.

Justin (Vegas)

From what I see on TV and hear Arum reminds me of my grumpy grandpa but we still love him.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

Although I would've been a bit offended by Bob's actions if I were you, it just shows that your voice is respected and heard by him.

Jeff (Denver)

Did you catch the Ali/Holmes 30 for 30? What did you think of it

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

I saw it and thought it was very well done. Showed just how poor condition Ali was going into the fight. Really sad they allowed that fight to happen.

Randy (Colorado)

I thought you and Arum got along great, wasn't he a guest for a chat this year?

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 PM)

Bob and I do get along just fine most of the time. Doesn't mean we agree on everything and don't piss each other off often. It's all part of the business.

chris (okc)

Dan, I lied, I have another comment. I never watched Curb your Enthusiasm until the freaks recommended it. I caught up with every episode on demand. Best show on tv!!!!!

Ray (Dearborn, MI)

What do you make of all the accusations of Manny being on steroids?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

Just a lot of hot air until there is proof.

Ian (Pembroke Pines, FL)

I really did fall asleep during the Pacaman undercard.

Darian (Chandler AZ)

I read in your blog that it was Todd duBoeff of TR that paid for/set up the huge circular video screen. That thing was AWESOME. I thought MGM had just updated the Grand garden with that. Props to TR, hopefully it becomes a staple of mega fights

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

That was all Top Rank, not the MGM.

Anthony (Sacramento )

Dan did you catch the part of the ppv telecast were Jim Lampley mentioned your chats? I always knew Lamps was a boxaholic but he is also just one of the freaks like the rest of us! Jim if you?re out there: you?re the best!

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

I was told about it and checked it out. Pretty cool. Gotta love Lamps.

Duff (Abington, MA)

Good to hear Z Gorres is expected to make a full recovery.

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

Yes, excellent news.

Mike (PA)

Any news on when Juanma tickets will go sale

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Good timing. I am on the Bat Phone right now with Top Rank's PR chief Lee Samuel. He says the press conference to announce the fight is Dec. 3 and they hope to put tickets on sale that day. Prices are still TBA. How's that for service?

Shawn (Tempe)

Absolutely gotta love Lampley. Love how he made no secret his disdain during the putrid chavez debacle.

Rick (Cypress Hill Ca)

The fight should have been stopped when Cotto's family left the arena.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

When the family gets up and leaves, that's usually a telling sign that things are not going well.

Jeff (Jacksonville FL)

If it happens will David Haye's defense against John Ruiz most likely happen in the States or in Europe?

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

England for sure.

Phil (New Hampshire)

Dan, you've got an odd fight on the schedule from MN tonight. Just wondering how you determine what makes the schedule and what doesn't

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

Whatever fights I am notified about or get press releases on or bouts sheets for make the schedule. I do not discriminate.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Do you think Kevin Johnson, has a chance against Vitali Klitschko ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

Not really. But you never know.

Randy (NYC)

HBO does a good job, but I hate when they should the family reactions. Unless it is them cheering a victory, I don't want to see a wife and kids on the verge of tears. Show the ring card girls instead

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

The family at ringside, bad or good reaction, is fair game.

Dave (Alberta, Canada)

Dan I know it is early but any news on the Mosley-Berto undercard? We are heading down to Vegas for it...

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

Nothing is set but Sergio Mora probably will have his first fight with Golden Boy on that undercard.

Darian (Chandler AZ)

Any rumblings or idea of possibilities for the Floyd-Manny undercard at this point? ( I know, let them make the fight first but...)

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

You already answered your own question.

Barry (London)

Any truth to the rumor that Mayweather wants to take a stay-busy fight before May? The British press says he has a date to fight here next year, with names like Matthew Hatton being tossed around. But that cannot possibly be correct, can it?

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 PM)

There isn't going to be an interim fight. Stop with that nonsense. Pacquiao-Mayweather is going to be negotiated to be the next fight for both men.

Reid (Cleveland)

Dan - loved the 2nd installment of Showtime's FightCamp 360. Do you know when the next one will air?

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 PM)

I also enjoyed it. Not sure when the next one will be on. Probably before the next Super Six fight in January I would think.

Kurt (The Arsenal of Democracy, MI)

Dan, I'm normally not a huge fan of ESPN, but I want to thank the network for doing a lot to put boxing back on the map as a top tier sport.

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

We did a great job covering the fight. ESPN TV was tremendous with its coverage. It treated it like the big event it was.

Pribs (Bethlehem, PA)

More memorable: Manny's singing or Funkhouser's joke?

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

Too close to call.

Mike (Los Angeles)

I don't see how a lot of people are giving Ward a shot against Kessler. I just don't see a Ward victory possible. I don't think that Ward is ready yet...

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

You are entitled to your opinion but to write Ward off as having no chance is ignorant.

Darin (KC)

What is the record for PPV buys again? 2.6 million or am I way off?

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Mayweather-DLH did 2.44 million. That's the record.

Joe (Newark)

Will Ward-Kessler be for the title?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

Yes, for Kessler's belt.

Tony (NJ)

will there be 24-7 for Hopkins-Jones II?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

TBA.

Chris (Columbus, OH)

You mentioned in the notebook that Roy and Bernard both had to win on December 2nd for their fight to come through, was that hyperbole or is there something in the contract where if one loses: fight's off?

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

Literally, they both need to win (or draw I suppose). But if either loses, their fight is not happening.

Big Rob (Fort Worth)

D-RAF, why do you and others continue to distort the facts when comparing Manny and PBF regarding the De La Hoya fights? PBF fought Oscar above his weight at Oscar's natural 154 lb division while Manny fought a drained dead man. No comparison

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

Waaaaaah.

Tony (NJ)

Is HBO replaying the Pacquaio fight at the same time as the Kessler-Ward fight to stick it to Showtime?

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

No. HBO always replays its PPV fights the following Saturday night.

C.M. (Canada)

Dan-o-mite, I had seats just behind press row, and WOW, did I ever see Arum go after you with that finger! Some gratitude from him, eh? Weren't you one of the main factors of DLH-Pac being conceived?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

LOL, you had a good view.

CB (Fairfax, VA)

Dan-O, Following up on the wonderful job ESPN did: even the College Game Day crew gave a shout out to the fight and took their picks. Not bad for a dying sport.

Cory (Dallas)

D$, I thought Kenny Bay did a good job in the fight, didn't even notice he was there until he stopped it. The way it should be.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

Kenny Bayless, as I have said before, is -- to me -- the best referee in the world right now. That's not a slap at any other ref. There are lots of good refs. But Kenny is the best in the business right now.

chris (boston)

arum may have flipped you off but that doesnt take away the fact that the undercard still sucked.

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

You are right. The undercard still sucked.

C.M. (Canada)

It was too funny. He did it once..... you clearly missed it...... he did it again...... Iole tapped you...... he did it AGAIN! Got to love the old man, as much piss and vinegar in him now as forty years ago!

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

I didn't hear him screaming at me because I was busy working after the fight ended.

Old Man Arum (dreaming of Macau stadium fight)

HEY DAN, GET OFF OF MY LAWN!

Gerardo (Los Angeles)

Dan-O, thanks for the great coverage and the taking of abuse for the Freaks! You mentioned Staples Center for Vazquez-Marquez IV. Is that pretty much the only place it would be held?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

That is where Richard Schaefer wants to have it and he has Feb. 27 on hold.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

I have heard a few writers say they were rather impressed with Yuri Foreman on saturday. I wasnt at all. You?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Yuro did a good job. He did what he had to. I give Yuro credit but he was also in there with a dead man who had no legs and who was dead at the weight. Santos was a shell of himself.

richard (oxford, united kingdom)

dan, floyd always talks about how he keeps 100% of his money, and that manny has the worst deal in boxing. but with richard schafer negotiating for him, doesn't a % of his purse go to golden boy?

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 PM)

Of course, Golden Boy gets its piece. Floyd likes to exaggerate.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

I must say Dan, i respect the way ur calling Mayweather out. Knowing him he'd try to find some way to avoid this fight...bc get this...he actually has a chance at losing this one. Keep up the good work, ur giving him no wiggle room.

Mikey (Levittown, NY)

Can Gary Shaw come off any worse than he does on Fight Camp 360? He's like Larry David multplied by Funkhouser to the Bob Arum power!

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 PM)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rick (St. Paul, MN)

The only thing that worries me about Floy-Pac being in Texas is Gale Von Hoy.

C.M. (Canada)

Had the chance to meet Ross Greenburg outside the Media Center this weekend. With so much negative stuff written about him, I just wanted to clear this up for the Freaks: the man is a CLASS ACT all the way.

Greenberg (New York City)

I heard grumblings about Pacman possibly taking on Foreman for an 8th belt. Please say it aint so!

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 PM)

Maybe someday but not with the Mayweather fight sitting there. Are you crazy?

Rick (Marina)

Im hearing about a possible Marquez-Hatton fight. What have you heard?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

Maybe somebody ought to read the notebook? I'm surprised to get a question like that from such a regular Freak.

Steve (NYC)

Are you in Oakland for the Ward fight? if not, will there be a RAD tomorrow night?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

I am not in Oakland. I am home sick with a brutal cold. But I will suck it up and there will be an RAD tomorrow after Kessler-Ward.

Greenberg (New York City)

Just curious...did you flip arum off back?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

No. I'm a bit more professional than that.

Jimmy (Philly)

Dan! Going to PWill/Mart on Dec 5 in AC....how's the ballroom as a venue? Any bad seats?

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 PM)

The ballroom where the fight will be is upstairs from the main big arena. It's a really good room for fights. You'll have a good view wherever you sit.

Tom (Hopedale, MA)

Are people not reading the transcript before they ask questions today??? Lots of repeats. Yes, Arum flipped off Dan. No, he's not in Oakland. Yes, he has a cold. No, Mayweather is not fighting Matthew Hatton.

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 PM)

Thank you.

Charles (Philly)

Sorry I'm late, King Freak. Hype and money aside, would you now be more interested to see Floyd fight Manny or Shane?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

Manny-Floyd is THE fight everyone wants to see, me included.

Sean (NJ)

only 1.25? was expecting a little higher than that

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

You're such a dope.

Horn (Vegas)

Why does Floyd always worry about what the critics will say after he wins a fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

Because Floyd is the most insecure person I have ever met.

Scott Shaffer (NYC)

Dan, news out of Colombia is that the WBA is on the verge of inventing a new kind of championship, the "provisional championship". Do you anf the freaks think this will be good for the sport, haha?

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

Oh happy day. Will give me more ammo to blast those crooks even more.

Shawn (Tempe)

Dan, being a NY Giants fan, have you have any conversations with Brandon Jacobs regarding his getting into promoting fights?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

I had a chance to chill with Brandon for a little bit after the fight. He's a big, big boxing fan and has been managing some young fighters and I think he sees that as something he'll do more seriously when his playing career is over.

Aaron (MA)

you hinted in last week's chat that Top Rank was working on a deal with another spanish language network. Any updates on that?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

All in due time.

Paul B (NY, NY)

The FreakerHouse Rules:1) Read the transcript prior to chiming in 2) Read all other blogs and articles and schedule before chiming in3) DTM is never wrong4) If you think DTM is incorrect, please refer to rule #35) Do not ask for picks more than a week before a fight6) Do not ask multiple questions as you run the risk of Dan choosing the one he wants to address7) Do not ask ignorant or inane questions for fear of banishment8) Do not ask about an active fighters all-time ranking9) Do not ask DTM to prioritize his disdain for the alphabet orgsWhat else am I missing?

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

richard (oxford, united kingdom)

just saw an interview on youtube with james toney in which he is less than complimentary about you. You and 'lights out' have beef??

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

Not that I am aware of. You have the link?

Mike (Los Angeles)

Will the Marvin Sonsona/ Alejandro Hernandez be aired here in the US, since it's at asino Rama, Rama, Ontario, Canada?

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

No, it is on TSN in Canada, which usually puts the fights on its Web site the following day. Sonsona is very exciting so I will be checking that out.

richard (oxford, united kingdom)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKUxMwkK02E&feature=relatedhe mentions you at 3 mins 40 seconds. Dont listen to him dan we all love you!

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

That James is a class act. At least I can talk without slurring my words.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Yeah, he's very exciting. He's only 19 years old, a left handed world champion. Any comparisons to Manny Pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

It's not fair to judge a young fighter like that to Pacquiao, but his adviser, Sampson Lewkowicz, who brought Manny to the US, has saod to me several times that Sonsona is the best young Filipino he has seen since he found Manny.

Derek (Brooklyn)

Any chance Sonsona winds up with a major promoter like TR or GBP? do u know if he's being look at to take a step up in the exposure dept?

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

There is some talk he may wind up being co-promoted by Lou DiBella and have his next defense on ShoBox in early 2010.

Simon (UK)

I know you said you would do a write up on your conversation with Haye, but did your opinion of him change at all after talking with him? I know he's brash but I saw an interview with him last week and he seemed down to earth and claimed that all of his nonsense is to sell a fight. Of which he said, his mother loathes his trash talking.

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

I have spoken to David previously and he is a great interview, I will give him that. He admits he crosses the line with some of his remarks. But he's got a good personality. Overall, he's good for boxing because we need personalities. I just like those personalities to go along with real accomplishment.

Charles (Philly)

Dan, it sometimes seems like you have to put up with a lot of crap covering promoters, scheduling, negotiations, etc. I guess covering great fights makes up for it!

Dan Rafael
  (2:23 PM)

It's all part of the business. I'm used to it. In my early days on the beat, stuff like that would bother me. No longer. I have iron skin and don't care what most people say or think about me. I just do my job and whatever happens happens.

Han (California)

I could not understand one word James Toney was saying. "He has no respect for speech" For all I know he could have been complementing Dan.

Wilkie (Toronto)

just watched what Toney "said" about you. it seems he doesnt so much speak the language as he does chew it up and spit it out

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

I'm not sure what I ever did to upset James, unless maybe it was write the truth about his eroded skills and report the facts about his multiple positive steroid tests. I've always respected him as a fighter.

Gutterdandy (NYC)

Toney is a has-been and he's getting bitter and taking it out on people like Dan, who have nothing to do with it.

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 PM)

Exactly.

junior (houston)

you never answer my questions!!!!!!!! do you think that pac vs mayweather will kill boxing because mayweather defense could make the fight a snoozer

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 PM)

I don't answer your questions because, like this one, they suck the root.

David (Winston-Salem)

Hey Dan, way off topic, but where did you go to college? Just curious.

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 PM)

Binghamton University. Back when we weren't riddled with basketball scandals.

Matt (Lincoln, NE)

Dan, in your eyes, is Toney a HOFer

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

Yes, despite the fact that he's an ass.

Greg (NJ)

Dan, how come you never answer my questions??? Jeez! What color shirt did you wear to the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 PM)

Blue with a gray blazer and a red tie.

James Toney (LV)

Sorry Dan - I was on roid rage when I said that stuff.

Aaron (Hartford)

Will there be a rematch between M Hatton and N'Dou ?

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 PM)

There's supposed to be one but I am not aware if it is set, nor do I care.

Brandon (Redondo Beach, CA)

Shouldn't you care about all fights since you are a boxing writer???

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 PM)

Not pointless and meaningless fights for bogus titles.

Pete (NYC)

Naito-Kameda worth trying to find on the internet?

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

Definitely.

Anton (Jersey City)

Can we expect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to step up his competition anytime soon?

Greg (NJ)

Dan,Just for one chat, I think you should post all the inane questions and stupid comments you receive...so the freaks can see what you really have to deal with. Maybe even a video chat, so we can see your reactions to all of them. Hilarious!

Dan Rafael
  (2:35 PM)

I'd love to but I am not supposed to post things riddled with curses, vulgarity, racism, anti-semitism and homophobia.

Nigel (Chestnut Hill, MA)

Has Randall Bailey retired or he is continuing to fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:36 PM)

He plans to fight. In fact, there was some discussion of him facing Mike Jones on ESPN2 but the Jones side turned down the fight.

sergio (san diego)

dan, is michael grant still fighting?

Dan Rafael
  (2:40 PM)

Unfortunately. He has a fight scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

Floyd Mayweather (Nevada)

I refuse to participate in this chat without a 60/40 split of ESPN's advertising revenue.

JoJo Studd (Fairmount )

which was a better KO, Pacman over Hatton or Angulo - Yorgey?

Dan Rafael
  (2:41 PM)

Pacman over Hatton. Simply sensational.

AL (WI)

Floyd M. should take note of Cotto - It'spossible to gain more repect in a tough loss than an easy win.

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

Ok, Freaks, thanks for the spirited chat. Make sure to check out the new notebook, blogs from the week, updated p4p and divisional rankings and news of the day. And then report back here tomorrow night after Kessler-Ward for our RAD chat. Until then, peace.
