Hi sports fans. Happy Thanksgiving. MMA Live has been shot, so we're here for the next two hours! For those of you at work, hope this takes you to the holiday weekend. Curious to get your thoughts on UFC 106 and anything else MMA-related. Let's eat. I mean let's vent. Eating tomorrow. 5,000 calories min.
What's up Jon? What's your favorite fight ever? I also think this would be a cool piece on MMA Live one time to have the panel all give their favorite fight and have everyone reflect on it while showing some highlights.
Trying to remember if we've done that through 81 shows. I think we did at some point. As for my favorite fight, there are too many to name. Let me chew on that...
Is the Houston-Kimbo fight @ 205 or heavy?
Catch weight of 215 lbs.
Anyone else think Tito won?
There are plenty of people who had it 29-28 for Ortiz, including one of the people whose scorecard matters. I can certainly understand giving the first two rounds to Ortiz.
Jon, does Herschel Walker stand a chance in his upcoming bout, or will he be another high-profile name from another sport who gets hammered by a more skilled fighter?
You'd have to think Strikeforce will be careful in choosing Walker's first opponent. I hate to doubt an elite and dedicated athlete like Herschel, but I am of the belief there is only one Randy Couture.
Remember two months ago when Brock Larson was the greatest thing in the history of MMA? Wow, times change, I love how quickly someone can rise and fall.
Great point, Brian. It happens so quickly. You're anointed, and then you lose two straight. MMA is experiencing such evolution. Potential champions can emerge out of nowhere. And thought-to-be contenders can fade. Not saying Larson is done, but it's a great sport, isn't it?
hey jon. who would you like to see lil nog fight next after his destruction of cane?
when will big fatty from TUF get his comeupins?
Ha. You gotta think he's fighting in the final. Just curious who it'll be against. I picked Brendan Schaub to run the table at the beginning, so I'll stick with him.
Jon,Love your work. Any word on Bobby Lashley's next move? Seems like Strikeforce would've scooped him up by now? Thanks.
Thanks, Pat. As you know, it was reported that he was close to a deal with Strikeforce but nothing materialized, or was firmed up. I've said all along, with respect to Strikeforce and others, that Lashley is a must-sign for the UFC.
I'm thankful for MMA Live and THIS CHAT!
Our pleasure, man. Appreciate the support.
how bout that Aldo dude? AMAZING!! Does he fight Urijah now?
Frank Mir wouldn't stop talking about this guy 16 months ago. Hope someone made money on Jose Aldo. The fight against Faber is the one that most people want to see now, myself included.
Hi Jon, what did you think of the koshchek fight @ 106? what was with that weird eye injury, how do you think it affected the outcome of the fight?
I don't think it had a huge impact on the outcome. Kos' strategy was to fatigue Johnson and he executed. I think Koscheck's approach (fight anyone, anytime) can be successful for some in MMA b/c you don't overstate the significance of a singular fight. He's loose, confident and I think damn fun to watch. And Rumble will be back. Hopefully at 185.
Lots of fan popularity for posting each round's scores after the round. Your thoughts? Have you asked any fighters about this?
We never stop talking about MMA scoring. Stephan Bonnar and I were dissecting the must-system and recent fights every time we weren't filming today. I think it makes for unbelievable debate. Also interesting a lot of MMA fans tend to agree with each other yet disagree with the judges. That is definitely a trend. It's such a tough sport to score. What is worth what exactly, ya know?
Who has the power to change the way rounds/fights are scored?
McNeil says seminars by the athletic commissions are an important tool for judges. I'm just not sure certain messages are getting across. It's a thankless and a very difficult one. Like how exactly do you score an escape from the full mount? It's inexact and people see what they see.
everytime coaches talk about Kimbo, though positive, kinda ify.
There is no doubt Kimbo is a solid human being and a great guy to have on TUF. I just wonder if he'll ever commit enough to maximize his abilities in MMA. I expect he will get at least 3 UFC fights.
right - but is it the Athletic Commission or the UFC's job to change the way we score? (10 point must vs Pride scoring)
Ultimately it would have to lie with the state athletic commissions and any given promoter/promotion's influence would be case-dependent.
Tito Ortiz gets a takedown stays on top for a minute to two minutes in rounds one and two then gets dominated the rest of the round, how does he win those rounds?
He was able to execute takedowns and opened Forrest up with an elbow. First round could have been 10-10 and third round could have been 10-8. I give up on MMA scoring I think.
I don't get the appeal of Phil Baroni, as Jake Rossen said on Saturday, amazing how a tanning bed didn't help his cardio. Gassed midway through round one...though he would have been great on this season of TUF.
Rossen's a funny dude. That performance is par for the course with Phil Baroni. Couldn't tell what was damage and what was fake tan. Nice showcase for Amir Saddolah, although I'll need to see him against someone else to be convinced.
When do you find out about Bellator Season 2? Enjoyed your calls and hopefully you'll be back. Also, was UFC 106 card of the year? And Amir Sadollah is overrated.
Thanks, Peter. Hoping to be back for Season 2, which begins April 8th. UFC 106 should be in the card-of-the-year discussion, along with UFC 100, perhaps 102. I'm sure a WEC show deserves mention. Strikeforce had that Shields-Lawler card. And honorable mention: Bellator XI at Mohegan Sun on June 12th (Ellenberger KO, Pace flying knee, Lyman Good becomes champ).
Will Kimbo win his debut against Houston Alexander?
I don't think so.
What MMA Fighter besides your bf would you like to have T-Day dinner with?
Forrest Griffin is a damn funny man. So is Rampage, but out of respect for Rashad Evans, I can't say him. Right now, I'd say Brock Lesnar...to see how he's doing.
Hey Jon...I've missed the past 2 chats so don't cyber-choke me out, but I wanted to get your thoughts on your boy Mir. Is he trying to sell tickets saying he'll stand and trade with Congo or do you think he'll do the smart thing and take him down, throw on the kimura and walk away with a W?
Mir's hands have improved greatly, and he definitely has deceptive power. Ultimately, Mir likes breaking limbs, and I expect he'll go that route come December 12th. Man I can't wait for UFC 107.
are you smoking, baking or frying the turkey/ham
Actually have no idea. Hoping my girlfriend's family will fry the hell out of it.
Do you think the UFC should start an annual fight card for Thanksgiving Day?
I like that you're festive. But nope. I don't want to cover that event. I'd rather watch the NFL and binge myself into a food coma w/ my family.
Heard rumours that Mayweather/Pacquiao will be on the same night in May as Silva/Rua II. Is Dana willing to go up against that?
Can't we all agree to just leave Mayweather/Pacquiao alone? What a fight for boxing. Can't possibly get any bigger. Of course the UFC will do something, but not sure they'll go the PPV route. I expect Mayweather/Pacquiao to exceed two million buys.
Do you think it's time to question Sadollah's finishing power? Baroni was just standing there in Rnd's 2 &3 and Amir landed about 50 clean shots and never knocked him down.
There might come a time to question Sadollah's finishing power, but that time isn't now. Only two fights in, and the first one lasted less than 30 seconds.
in your opinion why is the ufc blackballing big john mccarthy? they have horrible refs like maz always messing up. they need to bring him back.
The issue isn't that black and white. I agree that McCarthy is among the best in the business.
Brock Lesnar at 60% all year is scary. i'm ready to see 100%
Be patient. But can you imagine the hype when he returns?
Not much love for Amir in the chat - give the kid a chance.
I might go so far as to say a little hate. I'm with you Chuck, even if I don't see Amir as a future contender.
How good can tyron woodley be? He seems like a beast
Pat Miletich called him the best athlete right now in MMA three weeks ago, then reiterated as much on the Strikeforce telecast. Hands are fast and accurate. Big 12 wrestling champ at Missouri. I expect huge things.
Missed the last few chats live...glad to catch you today. UFC is being disingenuous about the scoring being all on the commissions. You can't tell me that if the UFC went to the NSAC and said, we will not being having fights in this state until you reform your MMA scoring rules, that they would not have any impact on reform.
As I said John, it is case-dependent. Do I think the UFC might have some influence IN Nevada in terms of suggesting rule reform? Absolutely. Good to have you back in the chat room.
Will we see Aldo at 155 someday? I hope so.
Is it true that even during surgery, the Dr. couldn't get Brock's back?
On Aldo, I think he could cut to 135. And as for Brock's doctor, hahahahahahaha. So true.
Tito might have lost but do you agree that his takedowns looked a lot more explosive? Compared to the last time we saw him again Machida.
Ummmm...not so much. Perhaps Griffin is a bit easier to take down than Lyoto.
Wandy is getting Bisping now (not Sexyama) - do you think Bisping will figure out how to avoid the right hand or does he go to sleep against Wandy?
Very well could need a pillow. First few minutes will be huge for Bisping.
If Hendo signed with Strikeforce, who would have the edge in a Hendo/Mousasi matchup? That'd be a great litmus test for Mousasi.
Mousasi might be the favorite, but I wouldn't bet against Hendo in any spot. I think the Henderson camp wouldn't mind signing with Strikeforce. A lot of different fights across divisions for him there. Could conceivably fight everyone from Jake Shields to Fedor Emelianenko.
Jon, What's the latest with Kenny, how's camp going? Do you miss your bff?
Kenny says Firas Zahabi just takes it to another level. It's amazing how you can never stop improving/evolving in MMA. I always expect the best version of Florian every time out. And he misses me much more than I miss him. I'm fine.
Who is in more trouble at UFC 107, BJ Penn, Frank Mir or Kenny Florian?
Love this question, Steven. Hate having to be the one to answer it. I think Kongo may be the best pure striker among MMA heavyweights, but I wouldn't say Mir is in trouble. Diego Sanchez is a tremendous challenge for BJ Penn, as is Guida for Kenny. I guess I'd be least surprised if Kongo beat Mir. There I said it.
if big fatty loses TUF, is that the last we will see of his fatness?
Interesting question. Dana White does not like Big Country Roy Nelson. At all. He could very well be cut unless he wins the contract.
Predictions for MMA Live in 2010.... finally on the Deuce?
JP, without ANY inside information, I predict that MMA Live is on ESPN2 in 2010.
I bet my left *** that Guida takes Kenny down and then Kenny elbows the stuffing out of Guida's dome from the bottom!
Jon is on the record...
why does the winner of TUF get a contract? seems like they let any TUF fighter have a contract, even if they suck (kimbo)
I would agree that the six-figure contract doesn't mean what it meant in 2005. And it is spread over several fights.
If Anderson Silva won't fight Machida because they are tight, what makes people think that Lil' Nog would...aren't both Nogueiras, Silva and Machida all part of the same crew?
You are right about the crew. But at some point, Lil Nog knew, if all went as planned, he might not be able to avoid Machida. Noguiera recently joined the UFC as a light heavyweight, as you know, and that decision had to be made with the knowledge that a title fight against Machida could be 2-3 fights away. One thing I can guarantee you is that Silva and Lil Nog will never fight.
I know it's a couple of weeks late - but no mention on the breaking of the mma live curse with Couture's win over Vera.
Because there's no curse dude!
Which do you favour: the extra excitement created by labeling a fight as a number one contender match (Hardy vs Swick), or the extra flexibility created by holding off on naming the number one contender (Hendo, Marquardt, Belfort)?
It's sort of circumstantial. I would just like to see verbal promises kept, and the best guys compete in fights that are on some path towards a title. That's why Ortiz-Griffin III is of no interest to me. Forrest should be fighting guys that matter in the title picture. Generally speaking, I like No. 1 contender fights that guarantee title shots.
Are you picking Andre Ward to win the super six?
Hey Jon, do you own any Affliction, tapout,or Silver star sig tees? If so which ones and how mnay?
I have some SIlver Star stuff and Eddie Alvarez's TapouT walkout shirt from Bellator XII. No Affliction gear. Hoping to get some Clinch Gear soon. I look fat in all of it.
I was dissapointed in Swick, what happened to him in that fight?
I wouldn't say he underestimated Hardy's power. He's just not as good as Dan Hardy.
Doesn't Ortiz Griffin III make some sense in the context of TUF. Those guys were 2 of the 3 best coaches in TUF history.
Yes it does. And believe me, I would pay for it and be thoroughly entertained. It just doesn't make sense from a pure sport standpoint. The winner should move on to a fight with greater importance. Forrest is 2-1 against Shogun, Rashad and Rampage, according to ESPN's Nate Ravitz.
People keep talking about WWE's Shane McMahon joining the UFC in some compacity. Please tell me this isn't true.
Watch MMA Live. Which by the way will be up a day early today b/c of Thanksgiving. Forrest Griffin by phone, Tyron Woodley via satellite, and Bonnar and McNeil in studio.
...also a training update with Kenny Florian and Firas Zahabi.
Vera / Couture the female version.... what did ya think? Any word on how bad Couture was hurt?
Gotta think there was some sort of orbital fracture in there, right? Don't have anything concrete. All I will say is that Kerry Vera's striking is elite, and Kim Couture doesn't belong in there with anyone who is elite.
and what about the 135 female div. is it stacked?
You'd be better served asking someone else. Not trying to be funny or ignorant. Just not a huge follower of women's MMA.
Do u think that Santiago will ever give Mamed Khalidov the title shot he deserves or will he avoid him?
You'd think Santiago would welcome a rematch. I consider Khalidov the champion of a major promotion right now. Gotta love it.
Koscheck vs Thiago next while GSP fights Hardy?
Exactly. Koscheck should be dying to avenge that loss, which is at the core of any anti-Kos argument at 170. That said, Paulo Thiago looked remade physically at UFC 106 and will continue to be a handful.
You posted my question and never answered! Why does everyone in the media avoid the Shane McMahon question?
I said 'Watch MMA Live'. We mention it in the 411. Reports are he met with Dana White and would like to get involved with the UFC in some capacity.
Which comes first...Rampage's return to the UFC or a New Jersey Nets win?
Nets win. Rampage is ducking Rashad, so his return will be delayed.
Interested in what do you think of Koscheck's speech after his big win. I know its all hype etc but he makes a good point. As good as hardy looked against Swick, don't see how he deserves a shot. Plus GSP will destroy him.
Hardy ABSOLUTELY deserves the title shot, if for no other reason than he won a No. 1 contender's bout. He's also never lost to GSP or in the UFC. I remain a huge Koscheck fan. A huge asset for the UFC. Looking forward to seeing him try to get back to a title shot and want to see Kos-Hardy now.
Mike Swick is such a phony. Did you read what he did to Saunders after they fought? Mocking and trashing your opponent after you beat him is a real class act...
Yeah that wasn't good to hear. Not a good few weeks here for Mike Swick. And, from what I'm told, Saunders is a good dude.
Jon, You are crazy, Rampage isn't ducking Rashad!
Just hyping the fight, Tom.
Have you heard the rumours that Koscheck wants to fight 10-12 (!) times in 2010? I don't get how anyone can dislike Kos. . .
That's why I'm a fan. Love his approach and reckless abandon.
Rampage is ducking Rashad? Where did this intel com from?
Jon, I respect your opinion, but to say Rampage is ducking Rashad is a joke. He has a problem with Dana, let's leave it at that.
rampage is ducking rashad? i dont know about that. do you have a source, or are you just drinking the kool aid rashad likes to pour out about himself?
Wow I seem to have struck a nerve. Think people want to see that fight at all? I don't really think that Rampage is ducking Rashad, but maybe. HA
Jon, I totally disagree, Rampage has been fighting the best in the world for years. Why would he be ducking the overrated Evans?
Rashad isn't overrated, but I respect your opinion. Rashad is still learning and improving.
Jon Anik = Floyd Mayweather, Jr. of MMA hype
After he gets his belt back, don't you think Torres vs Aldo is the more exciting match up than Faber vs Aldo?
Forced to choose one fight or the other, I would agree that Torres-Aldo piques my interest. Still haven't seen Aldo in person, which would help me make a judgment about his size.
Jon, How can Hardy get a title shot when he hasn't beaten a Fitch, Alves or Koschcheck? Just curious, aren't they the top 3 guys at 170?
You make a good case against Hardy. But circumstances resulted in Hardy getting a spot in a No. 1 contender's bout.
If Bisping would have ground out a decision against Henderson, he would not have been ready for Silva. I put Hardy in that same category. He's just not equipped for GSP.
Not saying Hardy is the man to take GSP's belt. He's not. But I'm excited to see what he can do against him. Hardy is an underdog every time out.
Thiago is going to knock Rashad's head off.
Hahaha. I'm certainly not trying to get ahead of myself or sleeping on Thiago Silva, Cody. Excited for that clash as well and that MMA Live will be at UFC 108.
was Kang overated or overdone?
Just inconsistent and on the decline. Has a world of experience, but has dropped 5 of 9 and looked disinterested in mounting a comeback against Bisping.
I missed the last two chats, so you may have answered this question already. Is the Couture-Coleman fight just the UFC's way of keeping Randy in a position to win fights until they can justify throwing him in there for a fight with a real contender? I find it hard to believe that they think Randy would have any chance against Machida or Rua.
As you know, the UFC has been ravaged by injuries. A lot of it is timing, and the fact that many fans had wanted to see that match-up for years. I firmly believe Couture will eventually get a shot against Machida or Rua if he wins.
Why is no one talking about Hamill v. Jones? This is a HUGE fight and it's free yet no hype? Got to be the most over looked fight ever.
Can't wait, Chuck. Jon Jones will walk out to 'Angry Johnny' by Poe once again and find a way to win. Not a lot of people backing Hamill in this spot, but a good test for Jones nonetheless.
Anyword on when Fedor will make his return?
Injuries to thumb and nose not as serious as originally thought. I'd say May is an informed speculation about a return date.
Jon, everytime I hear about people being 'underserving', I remember this is MMA and anything can happen. Griffin beats Rua, Mir beats Nog, it goes on and on......
...and on and on. Brian Foster beats Brock Larson, on a smaller scale. Huge underdogs come in all the time during UFC prelims. The gap has closed and fighters have all become so well-rounded that elite guys can emerge quickly and without notice.
In a slight change of pace, who've you got winning in the NFL tomorrow?
Giants will win but won't cover at Denver. Think the Cowboys win by 30.
I wonder who suggested Angry Johnny by Poe? I've dug that tune for a really long time!
He used it at UFC 94 and UFC 100. Chills both times. It really translates inside a UFC arena.
What are your thoughts on Karo Parysian?
No interest in his fights anymore. As a promoter, you just can't count on him, unfortunately. You have to think he lost a nice chunk of fans with this latest episode.
Whats up with Kimbo? what would a win vs Houston mean to him and his care?
A win by Kimbo would, in all likelihood, be a knockout and an unbelievable moment for him, personally. I think getting a UFC victory would mean far more to him than the promotion. He's not gonna fight for any title, and isn't gonna beat very many UFC fighters at 205 or heavyweight.
Jon, Please explain to me how beatiing Marcus Davis and Mike Swick warrants a title shot?
Hi Pete. I said he gets the title shot IF FOR NO OTHER REASON than b/c he fought in a No. 1 contender's fight. This is a tired argument---who deserves a title shot vs. who gets it. The UFC has a matchmaker and schedules fights as they see fit. Every decision isn't always made with the purity of competition in mind.
JON, JON, JON, Not only that but many thought Hardy lost to a washed up Marcus Davis
Again guys, there are many factors. Injuries, ability to sell a fight, timing. Bellator runs a tournament to let the fighters determine their fate, but no system is flawless.
I hate to put the HARDY-HATE into overdrive, but it appears GSP and Dana are carefully picking his opponents until sometihng big develops and its NOT right. GSP is a beast throw him to the Lions, nobody wants to watch him easily maul Dan Hardy, and please don't use Matt Serra and say he is beatable.
I don't agree, but I'm more than willing to get your opinion out there.
I agree you don't make a No. 1 contenders fight and then decide later on that there's something better.
That's the point.
If I get these big mitts on ya Anik U A DONE DADA!!!!!!
Someone please put up a name other than Hardy who is more deserving!
The UFC made sure Hardy won b/c the did a piece on him in their new mag.
Haha. Any other conspiracy theories? Hardy is better than Swick and I would like to see him against Koscheck, Alves, and Fitch. If (and when) he loses to GSP, you will all see him hold his own in some of those match-ups.
We were complaining when they made it a #1 contender match too, not just piling on. Believe me if Swick won we would be complaing that beating Saunders and Hardy isn't contender worthy.
I hate to be trite and quote Belichick, but it is what it is. You guys know this.
Will the UFC give Wes Sims another try? He is a huge draw
I think so. I think there's some intrigue there.
I might be alone on this...but doesn't Jon Fitch deserve another shot at some point here? All he's done is beat everyone he's fought in the UFC other than GSP.
Of course he does. It's just too soon.
Am I sensing a love triangle between u Florian and Hardy?
Hahahahahaha. I am on the Dan Hardy bandwagon as far as him being a Top 5 UFC welterweight. Would he beat Carlos Condit?
We had questions before about forrest's ability to bounce back from a mentally destructive loss against Anderson. Seems like he is back to being himself. Does he get back to fight for the title next year?
Not if he coaches Season 11 of TUF and fights Tito.
Your pick of Brendan Shaub to win the show is looking good right now! Also why does Kimbo get the fight if someone gets hurt or cant fight? To me he doesn't deserve it!
You can answer that question. Kimbo is a lightning rod. He could just stand in an empty room and get ratings.
If Kimbo fights Houston to me that should be an elimination match!
I'd actually like to see more bouts billed as 'elimination' fights. The reason you can't do that is b/c if guys look phenomenal in defeat, you're in a tough spot. I suppose you reserve the right to go back on your word.
When can we expect MMA Live to be posted today?
Should be up at 3ET. Up a day early b/c of Thanksgiving, for those just joining us.
Has the first season of Bellator been released on DVD? Or do you know if there are any plans to? I think it's something a lot of fight fans would like.
I think something is being done on that front, but can't give you a definitive answer. Shoot me an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I'll get you an answer for next week.
What is your dream fight for 2010?
Gegard Mousasi-Hector Lombard cross-promotional exhibition.
...Florian-Sanchez, Lesnar-Carwin, Velasquez-anyone, Rampage-Rashad...
Why in the heck is Gray fighting Diaz? This guy deserves a title fight not a fight with a guy maybe not even in the top 10. Dont get that match up!
We could complain all day. We unleash a new segment on MMA Live this week (MMAD LIBS) that let's the analysts play matchmaker.
Nice, I'll go with Mousasi-Shogun
If Hendo does sign with Strikeforce, does Jake Shields immediately drop back to WW? I'm pretty sure I would.
Hahaha. Still think that's eventually where Shields will be (170). Although I'm not exactly sure why Strikeforce brought him in and up as a middleweight.
Jake Shields is overrated. If you ask me he should of lost to Miller.
How do you feel on a TUF season with current/former UFC fighters that are struggling again like they did before. Who would you nominate to be on the show?
Hi Doug. I'm getting your questions, man. I gotta be honest---I think TUF has sort of run its course. At one point, they mentioned ending the run after Season 12. I think it is time.
What did you think of the Saunders fight? That clinch is up with Silva's. And I didn't even really like the guy before that Hardy fight.
He's a scary proposition at 170. Still a bit unrefined in other realms of MMA, but a vicious clinch and accompanying knees.
UFC just cut Brock Larson? Wow that was fast
Gotta love the updates from MMA Nation. In a blink, he went from a possible future contender to a free agent.
Do you think all judges should be required to take an actual BJJ class? Perhaps if they each felt an armbar or a choke, they would understand better how it should be scored.
I like the way you think, even if I can't tell if you're kidding or not. Ya know, wanting to see a judge get his/her neck cranked by a guillotine. I don't think BJJ classes for judges are necessary. They should have to watch 10,000 hours of MMA to qualify. I know plenty of intelligent fans that meet that requirement.
Do you think Big Baby will have success in the UFC?
All depends on how he develops his hands. Marcus isn't a young guy and has had 17 surgeries (NFL). His jiu-jitsu is blu-belt level and rising fast. But he's gotta be more natural with those mitts.
I'd volunteer to choke out Harold Lederman to the point that the Unified Rules of Boxing would be an afterthought,
Aw Newt! Harold Lederman is a friend and one of the nicest guys in the business. A legend.
What's next for Rumble?
Supposedly he collapsed before the weigh-in at UFC 106. Why the reluctance to move up to 185? He's gonna stay at 170. Someone in here suggested Condit.
I like the idea of getting former fighters as judges.
That works for me, too. 10,000 hours.
What happened to Marcus Davis? Saunders made him look awful! Is Saunders a legit 170 pounder! I have always been a fan of his.
I just think Marcus is getting up there and no matter how hard he trains, there are gonna be guys who are faster and stronger. Not saying he's done yet, but I think he should consider retiring soon.
Pac Man or Mayweather, Houston or Kimbo, New England or New Orleans?
Rooting for Mayweather, nervous Pacquiao will win. Houston will beat Kimbo, but I hope to be wrong there as well. And the Patriots will beat the Saints in N.O.
DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE RAMPAGE IS DUCKING RASHAD
Read the whole chat transcript. I'm not sure what I believe anymore.
Sure nice to see a chat without mention of Fedor! OOPS!
Why the Fedor hate?
Jon, I heard Tyron Woodley tried out for season 9 of TUF but didn't make the cut. I bet the UFC is wishing they had him in the WW division!
No doubt about it. True and true.
Hey jonny, put one of my questions up!!! MMA live podcast; any updates? I would love to at least listen to it while I'm at work since I can't watch it.
Soon my friend. Soon.
Are you disappointed that in Dana White's column for ESPN.com that he didn't mention being thankful for MMA Live? I'm sure it was just an oversight.
A tremendous oversight.
A serious suggestion I heard Joe Rogan make was to give judges monitors for when they can't see the action very well. Shocking that they don't have this already.
Shocking. I know it's a little different, but when I call fights, I rarely watch the cage. Almost all monitor. Waste of a good seat, huh?
Do you think Diego will make BJ Penn a done dada??
No. But I think Diego Sanchez, right now, is the UFC lightweight best equipped to give Penn a run for his loot.
How popular is MMA Live Jon? Is it one of the top shows on the Site? Are there even other shows that are exclusive to the site?
We are viral dude. Numbers have been consistently great. Feel grateful to be a part of it.
Diego is gonna have nightmares after this one.
Whoa! BIG NEWS from the Worldwide Leader! Dana White uses a ladies razor to shave his head. Jon, please give us your reaction to this shocking development.
I bic'd my head last week with a Gillette Sensor 3. I guess he has less hair than me.
By the way, it's extremely well done. Kudos
Appreciate that man.
What happened to the Lauzons? Haven't seen either fight in a while. Which has more upside? To me Joe seems to the better of the two.
Edzo, injuries continue to plague both of the Lauzons. They'll be heard from soon enough. I think when careers are said and done, Joe will have been the more successful guy in MMA.
Have you heard much about BJ's MMA Cribs show? Thoughts?
Hey Rachel. I hadn't heard about it. Curious though. I like seeing houses and cars I can't afford.
Do you think BJ's iphone app is interesting for the sport? I guess downloads of the application will be telling. One thing you can say about BJ is his ability to be forward thinking.
Dude's got his own app? Awesome. I need to get younger.
Does the winner of Coleman vs. Randy get a title shot?
Definitely not. I mean, no way Coleman beats Couture and gets to fight for the belt.
When will the field be set for Bellator Season 2? Any big names in the mix other than (possibly) Huerta? Will the season 1 champs be in the bracket, or will they fight the winner of season 2?
Negotiations with fighters for Season 2 are ongoing as we speak. I'll let Bellator make the announcement as to exactly how the current champions will be worked in going forward. But they are THE champions, not the 'Season 1' champions.
Jon, I made it! Better late than never, right? Anyway, what do you think about Dana's recent comments that Brock was only operating at 60% of his potential? I mean, it's impossible to quantify his potential, but is this a scary thing or more promotional shtick from Dana?
I don't put much stock into it. Lesnar may gain some confidence knowing he was battling a perforated intestine while training for Frank Mir and still performed at a high level.
Should Tito still be allowed to comment after fights? Excuses Excuses...
Yeah, too much mic time for Tito. Doesn't do himself any favors.
Will you guys ever show MMA Live outtakes?
I wish. Not sure if our producers even hang on to some of that God-awful stuff. We did a video blog for UFC 100 that never hit espn.com. I'd love to provide as much content as possible---podcast, radio, etc.
Do you think Bellator has the money to sign Huerta? I imagine UFC will use their right to match the deal unless it's completely out to lunch.
Have no idea about Bellator's resources, other than that the champions were paid very well. I would assume the UFC sees Huerta as someone worth retaining. Just not sure what their bottom line is.
Late to the show and was catching up but Rampage "ducking" Rashad....even you can't believe that!
Wouldn't you like to know, Jeffrey.
Havent seen Evans on MMA Live for a while. Is he in full training camp? And how do you think he will do against Thiago Silva?
You won't be seeing Rashad until MMA Live at UFC 108. He is destroying camp right now and will be ready to go on 1/2. I ain't picking against him.
Anik, I've been out for a while but it's good to be back. Do you see anyone beating Jose Aldo in the near term? I see him having as long or longer run that Anderson Silva
As long as he takes every opponent as seriously as he did Mike Brown, his reign will be long. I'm with you, VB and good to have you back in here.
Do we really think TUF is getting the top talents? After this season I'm skeptical!
Heavyweights are notoriously difficult, Kyle. Hopefully Season 11 is a step back in the right direction.
If Rashad gets by silva who is next for him provided rampage is still retired?
Any of the top names would be possibilites. Forrest rematch, Lil' Nog. Someone who won the last time out, as he (in theory) will have done.
IF Jon Jones gets by Hammil how soon till he moves to a Main Event and then in line for a contender spot... btw huge JJ fan and I think he is the next evolution in MMA. A supreme athlete who is dedicated.
Be sure to check out the December issue of FIGHT! Magazine with Jon Jones on the cover. Another prospect with a hugely high ceiling. A dominant performance on Dec. 5th will get him a top 5 guy at 205.
What do you think about UFC veterans trying out for TUF? Bobby Southworth was on TUF 1, Nick Thompson was in the UFC and fought for the ELiteXC belt...should they be mixed in with newer fighters?
I'd prefer that guys with UFC experience be removed from consideration. But I get why they do it. Rather than sign Nick Thompson, whom you may have fringe interest in, just make him earn his way back in via TUF. I'd prefer they build a whole season around UFC retreads as opposed to mixing them in with newer fighters.
Why do heavyweight fighters hate being in cardiovascular condition so much?
It's more involved than that. I'm not an expert, nor am I a scientist/physicist, but I think heavyweights gas more quickly b/c of blood flow or something.
Who's next for Tito? I mean, if you can't beat Forrest decisively, who can you beat?
I think he should fight Stephan Bonnar, who would love that fight. Bonnar is already booked for UFC 110 against Krzysztof Soszynski.
What are your stats? (Height ,Weight, Reach)
5'9" 161 lbs. Long arms, tremendous reach.
Have you ever had a bad show and run off the set like Forrest?
Hahahaha. I was pretty average today, but I can't run off with my mic pack.
Alright, that's a wrap. Thanks for sticking around for OT today. MMA Live should be up soon! Our guests are Forrest Griffin and Tyron Woodley. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and we'll do it again next week. Until then, be well and be safe. I'm going over 5,000 calories tomorrow. -JA
