Prechat reading:http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/6494/why-its-working-for-young-v-2-0#more

toby (houston)

i know your hoping the titans get into the playoffs. but if the texans beat the jags this weekend what are the realistic chances of houston making the playoffs? thanks.. and dont worry about the last two chats. we all have been busy..

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:28 PM)

Not hoping for anything but good games and good stories. I think the Texans don't have the intestinal fortitude to make it.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:36 PM)

Hi folks, I'll jump in early here to make up a bit for lost time. Thanks for coming.

Josh (Nashville)

Hey Paul - I have a hypothetical for you. Drew Brees leads his team to a 16-0 record, continuing to put up similar stats as he has so far. Chris Johnson breaks the rushing record and the Titans make the playoffs. Who wins the league MVP?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:36 PM)

Brees, no question in my mind. Johnson offensive player of the year.

Squirreltamer200 (Indiana)

What is the probability of the Colts resigning Dominic Rhodes? Although injured i see the colts somewhat deep at RB with Simpson, Hart, Brown, and Addai

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:38 PM)

My read is they promoted Hart instead of signing Rhodes after they took a look. Barring injury I would expect it's not happening.

Ted (Nashville)

I realize VY has turned the Titans around and given them some much needed confidence, but overall I think CJ has been the real reason this team to keep finding chances to win. If it were not for his run threat the recievers wouldn't find space for VY do throw it to them. If I had a team with VY at quarterback and a mediocre running back I don't like those chances, but with CJ at running back and a mediocre QB your team would have a better chance. Soo...my question is who do you consider the MVP of the Titans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:38 PM)

Unquestionably it's Johnson.

Mike S (CT)

Paul, can the Texans' woes be solved merely with a coaching change or does more than that need to be altered in Houston? The team seems to have so much talent that it is frustrating to see the same struggles year after year.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:38 PM)

Maybe a change fixes it. Maybe persistence does.

Squirreltamer200 (Indiana)

Isnt it interesting that the Colts now 11-0 and they dont get the same respect as previous 11-0 teams? Is there anything from your point of view that can help point to this not being an early exit from the playoffs for the Colts? Somthing that makes this season different from the rest?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:40 PM)

This idea that the Colts don't get respect/ credit/ attention is silliness. The only nugget of truth in any of it is it's not new with the Colts, they have done this a lot. For New Orleans it's the first time, so there is more novelty. But if you think we aren't interested in Peyton Manning and this team, I think you're nuts.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:40 PM)

Promise me 20 minutes with Manning and I will drop everything, get in my car right now and see him in four and a half hours.

Josh Werner (bluffton, sc)

With Tim Jennings seemingly the weakest link in the Colts secondary, will he be the 4th db on the colts depth chart and do you see them possibly going after Ratliff after he had such an impact for the unit midway through last year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:41 PM)

You want Jennings replaced by Ratliff? I know Jennings has had bad moments, but he's better that Ratliff.

Tyler (Charlotte, NC)

Who has stepped up more for the Titans on this streak? Young, Johnson, or the D?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:41 PM)

The defense, I think. Johnson wasn't playing badly before, he's just hitting new heights now.

Eddie (Austin)

Why all the sudden shock of how good VY is? I watched him from Day 1 at UT. As soon as I saw him scramble for 20 yards I knew he would win us a National Championship. He is doing the same thing now in the NFL. Playing HIS game. When you contrain him to the pocket, he seems lost. I just dont understand why people thought he could not be the same QB as he was at Texas.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:43 PM)

In the NFL, you play your team's game. Not your game. Nashville isn't Austin and Jeff Fisher isn't Mack Brown saying, " Go do your thing, in two years you'll be gone and I will control things again." Young's conforming, at least some, to what they want. And it's about them, not him. What were you saying during 2007 when HIS thing was nine TDs and 17 picks?

Brad (Delaware)

Regardless of how they finish, it seems that Jeff Fisher has saved his job. Do you see Fisher getting a contact extension, or leave when his current contact expires?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:44 PM)

He'll be coach as long as he likes, I expect. But it's not extension time yet.

Periwinkle (Chicago)

PK, are you saying that even if pigs fly and the Texans win out, there is no chance the Texans make the playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:45 PM)

If they win out they can get in. I don't see them winning out.

Brooks (Murfreesboro)

What is the combined weight of Mark howard and Frank Wycheck?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:45 PM)

Would 580 be a ridiculous guess?

Cliff B. (Nashville)

Paul, Mike Heimerdinger deserves a ton of credit for VY's reboot at QB. What are the Titans odds to keep Ding for at least three more years?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:46 PM)

If he doesn't get a head coaching job, very good.

Adam (Cookeville, Tn)

How do you think the Colts defense stacks up against Titans running game? Average, Above Average, Below Average? Why?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:48 PM)

Well, Indy defended the Titans run as well as anyone has all season in the first game -- 90 yards. It's a fast group, so you'd think the chances of CJ breaking a big one are smaller. Still, if he gets through, that they are faster doesn't mean they are fast enough to catch him.

Geo (Manhattan, Kansas)

What is the likelihood the Titans hold on to Bullock. I love keith and can't see him as anything but a Titan, but he is aging and I don't want him to get way overpaid.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:49 PM)

They won't overpay. If there is no cap, they could use one of two franchise tags. Otherwise I suspect he'll get a good offer and move on.

Stephen (Nashville, TN)

What are the chances of the Titans making the playoffs even with a loss to either the Colts or the Chargers and finishing 9-7?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:49 PM)

Very slim. That would be seven AFC losses and conference record is a major tiebreaker.

Casey (Murfreesboro)

The Colts have the opportunity to eliminate a team from the playoffs(Titans), that has given them problems in the past. I think this is a huge game for them. Your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:50 PM)

Eliminating other teams from the playoffs means zero to the Colts. They probably aren't good in such situations because they come late in the season when they're playoff position is secured. I don't see it as any factor in this matchup.

VYisnotmyguy (nashville)

I'll get bar b qued for saying this, but no way I'd resign VY at the end of the year desoite his recent success. give me a drop back pocket passer any day. personally I'd trade AZ straight up for Leinart if given the chance to swap.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:51 PM)

It's not a matter of re-signing him. He's signed. It's about paying a roster bonus to keep the contract going. He looked like a pocket passer against Arizona.

joe (nashville)

If you're Jeff Fisher, are you sold on VY being the present and future for the Titans, or do you need a few more games of good play from him to be confident enough not to spend a relatively high draft pick on another QB. They will need depth at the position regardless of VY's status. What do you anticipate the Titans would do in either scenario?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:52 PM)

I don't think it's determined yet. I touch on that in the big column that's up now at ESPN.com.

Adam (Cookeville, TN)

Is Chuck Cecil doing anything different/better leading to a resurgent Titans D? Is the defense adjusted to him now? Or, was it all about learning to play without Albert and getting healthy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:59 PM)

There is an adjustment period for a coordinator. Was one for Gregg Williams. Was one for Schwartz. So that was Cecil's. The injuries didn't help -- though they stunk while healthy too.

Hair Club for Men (Nashville)

We miss seeing you at the meetings. Where have you been?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:00 PM)

I'm comfortably bald, thanks.

Josh (Indianapolis)

Why is no one talking about Jim Caldwell for coach of the year? At the beginning of the year a lot of people were saying the colts would struggle to win 10 games with a new head coach. They're 11-0. Shouldn't more credit go to Caldwell?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:01 PM)

He's certainly a candidate, but the award usually goes to the coach of a surprise team, and while some expected a dip from the Colts, they didn't expect such a big dip that what he's done is a huge surprise. Marvin Lewis would probably get my vote right now.

Adam (Cookeville, Tn)

Is Lendale in the Dog House or has he suffered his penalty and is back in the fold?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

We don;t know yet, but I would suspect B.

Jason Davis (Auburn)

After last offseason, I saw Nick Harper as a bigger problem than losing Haynesworth. We have 3 pro-bowlers in the secondary, yet teams constantly pick on Harper. Will I ever get my wish of Rod Hood > Nick Harper?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Next year?

RoscoHawk (Nashville)

Hey Paul, love the chats and blog. Is it nearly certain that this will be LenDale White's last season in Nashville. With the addition of Javon Ringer and this being a contract year in which he has barely seen the field, this seems likely. Thanks

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Probably. But if there is no cap, White's only restricted.

Zach Stevens (Austin, TX)

You are a famous ESPN writer. Get me the number to contact CBS and have them switch from the Texans-Jags game (snore fest), to the Titans-Jags game!!!! This is ridiculous that I have to watch an 8-8 team every week instead of the home town hero of Austin, Vince Young. Put your fame-power to use and do something for us.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

I am surprised you don't get VY considering they still tend to show Colts and Manning, from the other UT, in Nashville and Tennessee when they can.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

But trust me, I am powerless here.

Geoff Arnold (Indy)

Do you think personally it is wise for the Colts to rest players? Do you think it throws off the momentum considering they are more of a finesse team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

I don't think resting healthy guys has worked in the past, so why not change it up?

Harish (Fargo ND)

Paul,Whats the news on anthony gonzalez? Do you think he will be back for playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Certainly they are expecting him back or they wouldn't have held a roster spot this long.

Brian (Clarksville, Tennessee)

With the promise of WR Britt what now is the biggest postition of need for a great player. It has to be defense. Hood looks good for a future pair with Finnegan, Bulluck is near the top in tackles still, D-line is deep. I think a big defensive tackle ala Haynesworth what about you?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Depends on what they do with their free agents. But CB is high. A return man should be too.

Carl (Nashville)

What's the chance of Justin Gage returning before the end of the season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

If he wasn't going to be back they would have IRed him.

Chief (Nashville)

What do you think about you and me co-hosting the 9 o'clock hours on 104.5 every morning?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Right after you ID yourself I will let you know, chief.

Jake (Hilton Head, SC)

In your opinion, are you for Rod Hood starting or Nick Harper. Where do you stand on that whole issue?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

I think it was a mistake to go away from Hood when he was doing so well. Harper has slipped some. Last year he took too much undeserved heat. Passes get completed in the NFL and when you are playing opposite a guy who was All Pro, a lot will be on your side.

Ash (Columbus IN)

Is Cortland Finnigan as much as a threat as he has been the last 2 years? seems we don't hear as much about him any more.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

I think he's gotten back to form in recent weeks.

Jon Randle(not the NFL player) (Savannah GA)

Matt Williamson notes that Young?s success is due in part to great offensive line, CJ, others stepping up, better D, etc., and I totally agree. Are they making VY look better than he actually has become ? I'm aware of the progress he's made, but is it enough for a full season ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

Not enough for me. Ten games might be. But he shouldn't get graded down for being on a good team.

Jeff (NC)

In your opinion, is Garcon a better fit as a wideout than Gonzalez? Do you believe Gonzalez would be asked to go back to the slot next year and let Wayne and Garcon work opposite each other? I don't have the expertise or the opportunity to study film, but Pierre seems to be improving each week.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Garcon's rebounded well the last couple weeks after a little slump. I think they'd be in great shape to be able to use four guys instead of three.

Jake (Hilton Head, SC)

Has Vince shown enough to get your vote, if you had one, for comeback player of the year? Or is that still Ced Benson's to lose?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Ced Benson, Tom Brady probably the leaders there.

JB (TX)

Welcome back, PK. I think a big part of the VY resurgence is due to having a real NFL coordinator in H-Dinger, but also getting away from Norm Chow. Don't you think he was a tad overrated as this QB guru? It's not like anyone at UCLA is lighting the world on fire...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

Chow is a good QB guy, probably not suited for the pros. But if you blame him for some of VY's troubles, then you should blame Jeff Fisher, too, for tabbing him as the right guy to bring in, no?

Steve (Mebane, NC)

In the wake of the Charlie Weiss firing, a few national pundits have speculated that the Colts might be a destination for Charlie to land. I know how much Polian and the Colts like to tweek NE, but aside from that, does it make sense to potentially toy with an offense that's been so prolific?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

I don't see any way this happens. If Caldwell was the connection, that might be something different. They have a great coordinator and Tom Moore and the continuity with Peyton is a big deal.

Jonathan (Jacksonville, FL)

If the Jaguars go 8-8 to finish the year, is the season a success still considering they started 6-4?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Absolutely yes, in my mind.

Levi (Boston)

Paul, after 4 years of watching ... would you rather have Jay Cutler or Vince Young as your franchise QB?Last time I checked VY had to do much more with less than Cutler. The Broncos teams in which he played for were playoff teams ...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

I'd rather have option C...

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis )

What are the chances that I win the MVP?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Quite good, I think. Pour it on before you sit.

Aaron B (Guarantee)

Why won't the Colts use someone else besides Chad Simpson on KR's? He is decent enough a 3rd RB but lacks any killer instincts to make him an effective runner.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Who? Do you think other skill guys are just automatically or magically good returners? They don't put a premium on returns,. That should change in Year 2 of the Caldwell regime.

Nick (Cleveland, TN)

I read your article about VY being more comfortable with the media, but it seems this week especially he's one of the biggest stories of the NFL. The Titans wins streak and CJ have made VY the third story in Nashville, but this week he stands front and center. How do you see this affecting Sunday's game and how VY performs? Think the nerves and pressure will get to him?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

I don't think nerves and pressure have ever been a factor in what's gone on with VY.

Ryan (Nashville)

any chance J Fisher leaves with all this breach of contract stuff?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

Nope. Check my post on it and his comments. Nothing to it.

No Respect Card (Indianapolis)

I'm getting played a lot today, huh?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

You are the most overplayed card in history. Don't you get tired? Weren't you excited when poker on TV got big? Didn't that give you cause to think other cards might be played more?

Simon Kuharsky (Nashville)

Dad I need your help. I have an english paper due in 13 years and I need to know the what's the proper use of an ellipsis?... on second thought maybe I'll ask mom... or the dog.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

Good call.

Terry (Indu)

Enough with VY and the Titans you goofy homer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

You got me. I am controlling the questions, which are all VY, and I love the Titans. I paint my face for these chats. That's why I've been so critical of Jeff Fisher for 0-6 and am still not convinced about VY. Ask a question about another team, howabout?

Brian (Clarksville, TN)

Why did the sports media love Mario Williams and pretend VY was no good and basically ignored his accomplishments of ROY, Probowl, Playoff, Comeback wins and so on. Even Houston fans want VY still to this day.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

He was benched FOR 22 GAMES!!!Did sportswriters do that?

Tim (WI)

I disagree that this turnaround has been more Johnson. The only thing that has changed since we went 0-6 is the QB change. Collins had CJ, he had the same receivers, he had the same o-line and we played 2 of the same teams. Since VY has become QB CJ is averaging 160 ypg. With Collins he was averaging 99.3ypg. Yes CJ is the best running back in the game, however, this change is because VY helps CJ and vice versa. VY deserves more credit than some people are giving him.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

The only thing that's changes if the QB? Check the schedule. Also, can the play of a lot of other people not have changed for the better. Can guys like Finnegan and Fuller not have gotten healthy?

Jake (Hilton Head, SC)

Do you think Jeff Fisher's habit of sticking with a veteran player over young talent creates a problem sometimes?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

When it's Lamont Thompson situation, absolutely.

Frank (Nashville)

Ok Chief...so what do you say? 9-10 you and me!!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

You just booting the other two? Nice loyalty, chief.

brad (austin)

have you noticed the titans difficulty in tackling and is it me or is Michael Griffin the next Roy Williams' of safeties?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Griffin's been really bad this year. AT ProFootballFocus.com they rate him 85th of 85 safeties who've played at least 25 percent of their team's snaps.

aj (belcourt)

who shouold i start champ bailey or asante samuels for my fantasy

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Funny!

JIM YIT (NASHVILLE)

I realize VY led the game winning drive, but what about the last play of the first half. They would have only needed a field goal if he managed the clok better.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

Not a good play. But he managed to wash it away.

David Hall (Tuscaloosa, AL)

How thin are the Jaguars at defensive back? They make every quarterback they play against look like hes the best thing since sliced bread!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Not good. A steady pass rush would really help too.

Bob (Den)

Haven't heard to much from Mario Williams this year. Is it a down year/

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Shoulder injury's been worse than they've let on.

Brad Jenkins (Des Moines, Iowa)

Do you think the Colts will keep Bullet for their D?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Of course.

Mark Howard (Couch)

Paul, Can you tell me if this word is spelled right Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? I am thinking of using it tomorrow on the show during our Titans segment!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Frank might pass out!

Kelly (Seattle)

Hi Paul,I would like your thoughts on Indy's apparent decision to rest players if /when they clinch early. Polian has said that momentum going into the playoffs is overrated but that seems like an odd stance from a team that has had very little playoff success except for 2006 when every game was meaningful. I realize there is some degree of speculation required but recent history seems pretty clear on this.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I agree with you. If it hasn't worked, why not change it. Play healthy guys, just pull them early.

Dave (Canada)

Will you be watching the SEC Championship game on Sunday to get a scouting report on Tebow? Odds are pretty good that after the season ends the Jags fans will be flooding your chat with Tebow questions.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

I think I already have a good sense of where I come down on this debate. I don't love him as an NFL QB prospect.

Erika (Nashville)

what's the deal with Vinateiri getting so many votes for the probowl when he's not even playing?? And even when he was, he's not been very good the last couple of years. I don't think they should get into the probowl if they've been out a majority of the season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Amen. Also guard Mike Pollak's story is even worse. He's in the top five and he's not hurt, he got demoted and has been inactive the last few weeks.

Brian (Clarksville, TN)

Paul why do you hate VY? all he does is win win win win and thats all that matters.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Don't hate him. Very impressed with what he's done this time around and thought he was outstanding against Arizona. But he's not walking on water.

brad (pleasant view , tn)

Do you think Vince has become Titans QB of the future now. I believe at one time you had written that the QB for the titans is not on the team right now. And what are there needs in the upcoming draft?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Looking more and more like he's the guy. Hard to imagine he won't be here now. They need CB and a return man. Rest depends on what free agents are allowed to go.

Josh (NY)

Do Derek Cox and Terrance Knighton have the potential to become the next Rashean Mathis and John Henderson for Jacksonville?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Why not have all four of them instead of replacing two good guys with two good guys?

Chris Johnson (I have no home)

What about me for MVP...has anyone done more for their team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

If you have no home, why come on here? Hop in a car with a real estate agent.

Tom (Chicagoland)

What does Jack Del Rio do or not do that makes the Jaguars such an up-and-down team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

It's the roster right now. They aren't especially talented, and untalented teams aren't especially consistent.

Kaleb Thomas (Greenville SC)

Status on big Ben? Playing this week?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

Check with James Walker, AFC North.

Paige (KY)

If the Titans go 8-8 after starting 0-6 will the season be a success?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

No. If they don't make the playoffs, the season is a failure. It's a nice comeback from 0-6, but 0-6 will be the story.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

If the Colts win this week, any chance they are already resting starters some next week?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

I don't think so. Maybe more likely to sit a dinged up guy. But they need to clinch homefield throughout first.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

Boy, Texans fans have largely disappeared, huh?

Mario (Ohio)

Fisher time and time again said Collins gave Tenn "the best chance to win" and showed no inclination of ever starting VY again - it took Bud forcing him back in the lineup - when will the true story ever be told?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

You just told it. It's not a secret is it?

Jeff Fisher (Nashville)

Norm Chow was there before we drafted VY and he wanted Leinart as well Bud overruled all of us

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

But you hired Norm saying he was the best guy to coach up a young quarterback.

Birdie (Orlando, FL)

Why did the Titans release Chris Carr? What will be their answer for punt returner?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

They didn't release him, he was signed by Baltimore, which offered him the nickelback job as well as returner jobs. He's not been great there, by the way.

David Hall (Tuscaloosa, AL)

Where do the jaguars go in next years draft?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Defensive line, corner, quarterback.

Bob (Den)

Peyton Manning and his receivers or Drew Bress and his receivers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Tough call. Happy either way. Think I'd lean Manning.

Josh (NY)

If the Jaguars defeat Houston and either Indianapolis or New England, do they make the playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

I need to know what a lot of other teams do in a lot of other games. I suspect not.

Clay (NASHVILLE)

I understand your position on JF and his contract, but if there is no salary cap starting next year, whey would he want to stay with Bud and the small market, when he could go to Dallas or Washington where money will never be an issue.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

So a story is circulating that there could be 2 teams playing LA come 2011 and the Jaguars are top of the list. Adam Schefter thinks they should be removed from the list. What are you thoughts base do these two opinions?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

I don't believe one team will be playing there.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Please don't post the same question 10 times. Where is Hoculi?

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

If the Jaguars expect to compete next year don't they need to get defensive help in the draft and free agency? Too many holes to expect more rookies to make an impact.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Yes, but with midrange free agents. They aren't going to break the bank.

Chris Johnson (I have no home)

See even PK overlooks me! He can't even answer my question about MVP!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

I don't see you as MVP. I see you as Offensive Player of the Year. If you have no home and all this time, scroll through the chat. And what's with the pink car?

Dave (Houston)

curious on your perspective about the Texans. it seems like they have caught a lot of terrible breaks this year, in a lot of close games. Two goal-line fumbles, two makeable FGs missed, a few conspicuously bad calls. it seems like every loss since the Jets opener, we are talking about bad bounces, and games of inches always going the wrong way. your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

They made those breaks, they didn't catch them. Fumbling and missing field goals aren't bad bounces, they are bad football.

JB (TX)

18 game schedule: still a good idea? Or does all this concussion talk table it for a while...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Money talks. I still want it. Anything to trim the preseason and stop ripping people off.

Brian (Clarksville, TN)

Would you take Vince Young or Peyton Manning in the last 2 minutes of a game. I think its obvious you take Young since he has done it virtually everytime.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

You do standup?

Adam R (Albany)

Vikes- Saints and Colts-Pats in the Conference Title games? Do you have any differences on either one, Paul?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Very rare you can just pencil in the top four teams. I won't be surprised if only two of them get there.

Erika (Nashville)

where does the fine money go when players are fined ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Charity.

Marvin Harrison (Not retired yet!)

I've never gotten to beat Peyton. Can the Titans sign me to a 1 week contract so I can fulfill this goal? And how much do the Colts miss me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

Not at all, Marv. And I wouldn't give you snaps ahead of Kenny Britt.

Josh (NY)

Considering the three teams vying for the #6 seed are all 6-5 at this point, do you think the Jags could make the playoffs with a 9-7 considering their conference record?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

A lot, a lot, a lot of things would have to fall right. But yes, possible.

TJ (Bristol, TN)

so you pick and choose what to answer?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Someone has to.

John (Indy)

RE: Colts resting their players. Wouldn't the 'rust' everyone suggests the Colts would pick up if they rested players manifest with poor first quarters etc? If you look at the playoff games where the Colts rested players prior, that's not really an issue.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

No, the losing those games is the issue.

Derrick (New Albany, In)

Do the Colts put Vinateiri on the roster in place of Stover if he heals before or during the playoffs? Or do they maintain Stover as the starter even though he hasnt had much work this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

They haven't held a roster spot for AV to not use him when he's ready.

Phillip (TX)

Hows this for a curve ball. I think that if the Titans finish with more than 8 wins, Jeff Fisher should be fired.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

Interesting take. Won't happen, however.

Steve (New Jersey)

What's the word on Titans DT Jason Jones?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Shoulder continues to be a problem. I don't expect he's healthy til next year.

Kevin Ingram (Belmont)

What is this I hear about you getting replaced by McClain?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

More long pours at the Regal Beagle for all!

Adam (Grand Rapids)

Who gets your vote for League MVP? I mean we can easily argue that there are 4 or 5 guys who will deserve it, but who in your mind stands out the most?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

I'd like to see the rest of the season, please. But it's Manning or Brees right now.

Brad (Seattle)

I'm as big a VY fan as there is, and I thought the question of taking either him or Peyton with 2 minutes to go was comedy, lol. That being said, it seems that the general consensus is that Vince Young has now proven to the critics that he can win a game with his arm, not just his legs (he had 1 scramble for 6 yards on the final drive against AZ). What would your reaction be IF Vince leads the Titans to a win over Indy and plays mistake free football? Would that be cause for a more resounding vote of confidence in VY?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Better and better. But six games isn't a giant sample size.

JP (KY)

Where do you think that the Bengals stand among the other elite AFC teams like the colts Pats

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Right now, I feel like they should beat the Pats if they played.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Will you be in Jacksonville for the Colts game and if so can I sit by you in the press box? I have nothing to offer that you need or want.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

I will be there. You get a pass and request the seat, it's cool with me.

Josh (NY)

Shouldn't Maurice Jones-Drew be getting some mention in the MVP discussions? He's leading the league in rushing touchdowns and the Jaguars would be barren without him.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

You really think he's better than Manning, Brees or CJ? I love him, but I don't.

Awayne (INDY)

Do the Colts try and reign in Freeny and Mathis a bit to try and Keep VY in the pocket and maybe bliz a litlle more straight up the middle?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

It's what Arizona did, and look what it got the Cards.

DJB (Cool Springs)

Do the Titans still have faith the Mouton and McCourty end up as useful NFL CBs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

I am sure they think they will be good players. But they can't count on either as a starter on opening day next year.

Hank (texas)

How close do you think the Texans are to really REALLY challenging the Colts and Titans for the AFC south crown?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

Based on their last three games, not that close.

Brian (TN)

Favre is MVP, Peyton and Brees wouldnt be conisdered right now if their team wasnt undefeated. Lets get real.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

But... A) Their teams ARE undefeated and B) The Colts without Manning or the Saints without Brees are way worse than the Vikes without Favre.

Marlon (Nashville)

what do the titans d need to do to slow indys offense

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Cover well. Force Manning to get rid of it. Get stops on third down. All the standard stuff.

Adam (DC)

As a native of Tennessee who just moved to the district, I get to see a lot of Haynesworth. Do you think, despite his decent play, that it is clear he was overpaid or is the jury still out? And what about Schwartz heading to Detroit? After how the season has gone should he maybe have waited to try his chances elsewhere?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Schwartz has the Lions making progress. They had a long, long way to go and I think he's doing a good job. Albert could be on track for unanimous MVP and he'd still be getting overpaid.

Marlon (Nashville)

do the colts have any injuries that could help the titans

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

A bunch, starting with Freeney (abdomen) who was out last week.

Charles (Goodlettsville)

Fisher said on his show last night that Hood has a future with the team. Do you believe that or was that just coach speak?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

If they get out the checkbook and give him a role, sure he could.

Brian (TN)

If thats the case for Peyton and Bress than a QB that took over an 0-6 team and has been undefeated since should be considered highly too.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

He will have played SIX FEWER games than everyone else and you want him to be MVP?

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

I've been growing my beard out since MJD told me to. The wife has just about had enough. Though unrealistic, the Jags are capable of controlling their own destiny for the playoffs. Do I shave it or keep it? It is a fantastic beard and I do have to play a wise man on Christmas Eve.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

Got to keep it for wise man at least, no?

Jeff (MN)

If Peyton Manning were to run for president in 2016 how big of a win would he have?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

There are a lot of Peyton haters out there.

Josh (NY)

Eugene Monroe, Eben Britton, Derek Cox, Terrance Knighton, Mike Thomas, Rashad Jennings. Can you ever recall a team having an immediately productive draft as the Jaguars had this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:02 PM)

Nice group with bright futures. Now Gene Smith has to go do it again.

Wes (Waldorf, MD)

Ok last try to get a question in....Do you see Keith or Bo still with the Titans next year. Tennesse has a way of not putting out the big bucks to sign there key players which has turned out ok in the past but what about this time?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:03 PM)

Bo isn't in position to get big bucks is he? A lot depends on CBA.

josh (indianapolis)

Are Garcon and Collie as successful this year if Gonzolez doesn't get hurt or is it because of the injury that the learning curve had to be sped up?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

Of course they've gotten better faster because more was asked of them because a guy ahead of them went out.

Finley (Back yard)

The titans are five wins away from you wearing the VY jersey. Are you getting nervous yet?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

Keep reminding me. Where will I be wearing it? I forget?

Nick (Columbus, IN)

Let's say Peyton plays at relatively as high of a level as he has this year, for four more seasons after this one. There are a lot of other intangibles involved, but how many more rings do you thing he gets if you had to guess? 0?1?2?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

One for sure.

Josh (NY)

Should Jack Del Rio be considered a candidate for Coach of the Year considering the Jaguars have 12 rookies on their roster (4 of which have been starters from opening day) and 27 new players overall?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

Yes. But case would have been a lot better if they won at SF.

Triveni (Nashville)

A couple of times now, you've said Titans are likely to go CB/returner in the draft (assuming free agent losses are minimal). But with Rod Hood, Mouton, and McCourty, would CB really be a pressing need? Perhaps their 5th round pick? I'd see maybe a dynamic defensive player, perhaps an OLB (or DE considering KVB, Kearse, and Ball are all almost done), in the first round and a returner in the 3rd, and if that doubles as CB then win-win. What about a guy like Golden Tate?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:08 PM)

I wasn't saying the corner should be a returner. Hood is not signed. And it would be foolish not to draft a corner because of Mouton and McCourty. Just because you have guys doesn't mean you shouldn't draft a good guy. I see it as a major need. they'll have others too for sure.

Al (Nashville)

Too bad you don't have a less successful clone that will never have a chance of surpassing your greatness that you could send to the Jags/Texans game...it would be fitting...

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:08 PM)

you mean Mini-P can't go?

jeff (costa mesa)

how hard was it for you to give even that half smirk in the picture above? you're clearly not a happy man.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:09 PM)

Smile in a picture like that, everyone says look at that goofy dude. Don't smile and everyone asks, why so serious. I take B every time.

Ed (Arkansas)

Jared Cook looked good on the final drive in the Arizona game. For the first time this year, not in a pre-season game, he looked competitive on the field. Is this indicative of things to come? What has been holding him back?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:09 PM)

Kind of lost his confidence after ankle injury.

Nick (Columbus, IN)

I know you love the boss, have you ever been a fan of Mellencamp??? His son has started a page on Facebook, if he gets 1,000,000 people to join, John says he will stop smoking. You gonna join? I did. Although you would think his sons request would be more important than the other million combined...

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:10 PM)

Old Mellencamp, absolutely.

Kevin (New York)

Gerrard has been getting pressured alot all season, and I was wondering if you see it as a learning experience for the two rookie tackles, and shouldnt we start seeing some improvement by now? I know you have to give them time but there should be improvement.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:11 PM)

Protection for Garrard should be better by now, yes, and it's a concern.

Ben (Ann Arbor)

% chance that Chris Johnson gets 2,000+ yards?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:11 PM)

61%

Jason (Columbia, TN)

Did you have a chance to catch the Rock-n-Roll HOF concert on HBO?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:13 PM)

Have it on DVR and watched a couple songs. Will they make a CD out of it or put on iTunes you think?

JOE (INDIANA)

Is it possible the NFL will ever modify the current playoff system where the WCs from each Conference flip flop? IE AFC WC play NFC division and vice versa.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:13 PM)

Why?

Walt (Bristol, TN)

I was checking out profootballfocus.com after you mentioned it in one of your answers earlier. I was just wondering how reliable you think their statistics and rankings are? For example, I find it hard to believe that Cortland Finnegan ranks 47th on the cornerback list for this season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:13 PM)

I think it's good stuff. Finnegan was bad in some early games.

Arch Stanton (Unknown)

I have to say it has been nice to bust the VY jersey again after relegating it to the closet as lost money and a bad purchase...at least for a little while. Have any jerseys you've had to retire because of a player going bust? C'mon admit it, you had Ryan Leaf and Joey Harrington jerseys, didn't you?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:14 PM)

I've never owned an NFL jersey and I am proud to say so. They are appropriate two days a year. Halloween and Super Bowl Sunday if your team is in it.

Josh (NY)

Are you bald or shaved?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:15 PM)

So personal. Both.

Jack (Knoxville)

With dash now doing both the smashing and dashing, are the titans not a little concerned that CJ, being a smallish guy, won't hold up, if not this year but in the future if he keeps this role?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

You can't worry about 2011 in 2009 when the guy is running wild.

JD (DC)

Who should be Houston's main running back?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

Slaton.

Brian (TN)

Do you see David Garrad as a game-manager and a need to look for a franchise QB or is he their franchise guy for years to come?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:16 PM)

I think they probably need better.

Jeff (NC)

Do you ever scout college kids, or do you just read some stuff and check out sportscenter?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:17 PM)

Scout? Like go to games in the press box with a stopwatch, no. I'm not a big college football guy. I read and watch what I can and need to when I need to. I go to the combine and meet a lot of guys and I talk to personnel people and scouts about guys.

Brian (TN)

Youve answered like 10 of my questions/comments. I appreciate it

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:18 PM)

Good job by you, I guess.

Dan (Nashville)

PK. Do you know where I could get a Kuharsky jersey???

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:18 PM)

NFL.com advertises you can order all different kind of stuff there.

John (Arlington, Va)

MJD or CJ as a long term running back?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:18 PM)

CJ. Still.

Ryan (St. Johns, FL)

I think it's safe to say that Derrick Harvey isn't going to be an elite RE. Do you think he can at least be a productive LE for the Jaguars in years to come?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:19 PM)

Productive, yes. Big time pass rusher, no.

Awayne (INDY)

Only thing worse than seeing a grown man in an NFL jersey is seeing grown a WOMEN in a PINK NFL jersey.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:20 PM)

At least they are supporting breast cancer awareness.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:21 PM)

Folks, enjoyed it. See you next week. Check out the VY column if you haven't: http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/6494/why-its-working-for-young-v-2-0
