Sorry everyone-had some problems getting logged in
Matt, are the Cardinals in major trouble if Kurt Warner misses significant time? Matt Leinart seemed to take a lot of heat this week despite having a statistically solid game and getting the club into position to pull off a road upset.
Sure-losing Warner would be massive for sure. There is a drop off for sure. Warner just processes information so much faster. Quicker about EVERYthing.
Calvin Johnson played, but sure did not look healthy last week. Do you think he gets better this week or does Boldin put up the better numbers?
Calvin has not looked healthy to me for some time. Have a hard time thinking that this week will be any different. Such a tremendous talent, but surely isn't right.
Matt, That's a 5 yard delay of chat penalty. We'll repeat 1st down.
Deserve that one! Sorry!
Matt, Has age finally caught up with the Steelers ?
Not sure that it is age as much as injuries. Last week the loss of Troy P and A Smith-two exceptional players-was more evident than ever. That secondary really has been a problem with Troy out.
Does Ced Benson pick up where he left off before his injury this week vs Detroit, or would S Jackson be a safer bet (though he is hurting as well)?
I think Cincy pulls away in this one and Benson then gets a lot of rest. So, it seems unlikely that Benson gets a chance to produce for the entire game-which isn't the case with Jackson.
Matt, do you think jerry jones will trade up to draft a quaterback in this years draft?
No. Romo has his warts-no doubt-but I would say that he is Jones' guy. Doubt I would make a big move to go up the draft board to get a QB.
Hi Matt, what do you think would be a better story, Saints or Colts going 19-0? Or The Titans starting 0-6, winning 10 straight and going all the way to the SuperBowl?
In terms of just the story, I would say Tenn. Pretty remarkable considering that their final loss would have been that incredible drubbing by the Pats.
What do you think of the Jags rookie class? They all have big upside, but the OTs have been disappointing.
Agreed, but rookie OTs rarely enter the league and do real well. This past weekend was especially rough, but I still have faith in both bookends. I also really like the rookie WRs and Jennings as a #2 RB. Good class...that will get better.
Is Drew Brees really that good?
So do you see Denver resigning Orton, Marshall, Dumervil, And DJ Williams? Or just a one or two of them??
All have to be a very high priority, but doing will be very difficult. But-if it is an uncapped year-that might just work to Denver's advantage this particular season. How would you prioritize them? Really tough. I want to Marshall first, but are we sold that the off-the-field issues have gone away?
will the jacksonville jagars make the playoffs
No, I really don't think so. Just not a very good team to all reality. I think Denver gets a wild card and would say that Pittsburgh gets the 2nd one.
Do you like the Titans chances this week against the Colts with the Colts tendency to play down to weaker teams?
Not sure that Tenn is a week team. Playing exceptional right now. I am picking the Colts, but I don't see it as a slam dunk. Could see it going right down to the end-and then, who knows?
is maurice jones drew a top five running back in the nfl
Yes, I think that is safe to say. I know that I am in the minority considering how great Johnson has been this year, but I would still go 1. Peterson 2. S-Jax. Johnson and MJD would be the next two on my list.
QUESTION TO MATT DUB WILLAMSON AT HI MATT DUB WHO DO YOU HAVE GIANTS OR COWBOYS
Taking the Cowboys-mostly because I don't have a lot of faith in NYG at all right now. They really got whipped at the LOS on both sides of the ball last week-that just isn't who that team is. But, it is in NY and I can't say that I am overly confident in the Cowboys either right now. But-give me Dallas reluctantly.
When do you think Favre will have a Favre-like (interceptions) day? It scares us here in Minneapolis how good he has looked!
I am a believer as well now. He is just so precise with his reads and decisions right now. Don't see that day coming.
Still think J.Charles is a situational back?
Yes. That doesn't mean that he shouldn't get 15 touches a game though. Very valuable weapon for KC right now. Read my Scouts Buzz on him this week. Would still add a bigger RB to the mix though for the long term.
If Romo finally gets a playoff win, will that get critics of the media off his tail?
That is probably what it will take. I like Dallas' chances to win their division. We know that they won't get a bye-but the 3 seed seems quite attainable. Host the 6 seed-which might not be a real impressive club. Should be a very winnable game. If they/he stumbles, then it could get real made from the media.
Will you ever consider doing your own weekly podcast and take questions from fans?
Nice of you to say-thanks. Sure, that would be a blast. That isn't anything that has been talked about, but sure-I enjoy the interaction with Sportsnation quite a bit.
if you were in the super bowl what QB would you want on your team
Hard to go against Brady. I firmly believe that Brady and P Manning are heads and shoulders above every other QB in the league right now-but Brees sure is impressive right now. But-for one game: 1. Brady 2. Peyton. #3 might be Roethlisberger, as he is a very good clutch QB who has been there twice already. Favre has to be in the equation. Wouldn't mind Rivers either.
Who gets the number 2 seed in the AFC: Pats, Chargers or Bengals?
Give me NEng-expect a beat down this week
can the runner u. bolt be in the nfl
Oh no. Getting drilled by strong safeties isn't for everyone. I assume you would play him at WR. Can he catch? And I don't mean, "Yeah, he can catch a football". But can he run his pattern, adjust to a Flacco/Cutler fastball that was released before Bolt made his break that gets to him as soon as he gets his eyes around. Can he sight adjust that quick and still cushion the blow of that heavy ball being fired at him?
Considering he was the guy that was supposed to put the Falcons over the top, has Tony Gonzalez been a disappointment?
Oh I don't think so. That entire O has underperformed for the most part, but individually, I would say that Gonzo has been every bit as good as advertised.
New England...good one. The team that cant stop anyone. Refuse to give credit to the Chargers, even on the podcast
I think NEng is better than SD. Not afraid to say that. It isn't a slam dunk, but both teams throw the ball very well. I don't trust SD's run game at all-or their run D. NEng's D is also suspect, esp against the pass, but NOrls does that to just about everyone they face. The Chargers are good-no question-but not elite. Plus, I don't love their coach for the big game. Same can't be said for the Pats.
MW - it is my belief that the main reason for NYG's struggles is poor coaching. Sheridan ruined a D that should be great, the Giants stink in the red-zone largely due to Gilbride's bad playcalling, and since Coughlin hired these bozos, some blame goes on him. Thoughts?
Might be too rough. I think Spags is missed-no doubt. But the early injury to Phillips was bigger than many realize. NYG is very suspect in coverage at their LB and S positions. What shocks me on their D is that the DL just isn't more dominant. Is that coaching? Not so sure. As for the O-Jacobs deserves a lot of heat and I see that OL as all-of-a-sudden looking old. Could the play calling be better? Sure, but the players deserve their share of the blame.
So does Knowshon Moreno have a shot to get ROY?
That award has to go to Harvin. Has to.
Hmm, a 4-1 road team or a 1-4 road team? A team on a 6-game streak or a team who can only beat bad teams? And you get paid to make these statements?
Two of those road losses were against teams who are presently undefeated. I recognize what SD has accomplished, but I am just saying that they are not a big dog. Lets see a statement game. I hear ya on NEng-and they really got abused this past week. But their track record is very strong and they were dominating opponents before this past week.
How does Belichicks "big game" decisions look this year? Right now they look like Mike Tyson after everyone stopped being affraid of him.
Because he went for it on one 4th down and that didn't work out? Take a step back and stop hating the guy for one minute and answer me this-Who do you want as your head coach for one game? Of course it is BB.
How on earth did every NFL GM miss out on Dennis Dixon? FIFTH ROUND FOR THAT TALENT??? Scouts seem to be saying that Tim Tebow is a first rounder!!! Compare him to Dennis Dixon! Dixon is faster with stronger more accurate arm. Is there any chance Pittsburgh trades him to a team who could use him? Hint: Niners or Raiders.
Pittsburgh needs Dixon as a #2, as I think Batch's career is just about done. Remember Dixon's situation coming out of school though-he had a wreaked knee and missed the end of his senior year. Wasn't able to work out for scouts. A lot of unknown with him at that point. Also, he played well and yes, he exceeded expectations, but let's now classify him as an NFL starter quite yet.
If you think Brady is better than Manning why is Belichick so afraid of him. Ithink the chess makers in that game were BB vs. Manning. Don 't you think so ? Manning is a player and a coach thats the difference between Brady and him
But Brady's post season/clutch track record is far superior. I am not going to argue Peyton vs. Brady. That is a tired argument and there is not a right answer. I have said repeatedly this season that Manning is the best football player on the planet right now. Huge fan here-you don't need to convince me. BB should be afraid of him. But, in one Super Bowl game, I want Brady by the slightest of margins. Then there is a huge gap after Manning before going to my #3 QB.
Is the Patriots problems on defense from personnel, coaching, youth or a combination of those. Or is it something else?
I wonder if BB regrets trading Seymour, who has played great in Oakland. Big picture-it was a tremendous move. A steal. But, in a year that you might be close, Seymour could have went a real long way. I also think that their OLB position has been a big liability from a pass rushing standpoint. They don't have that guy (Ware/Merriman/Harrison) who just scares the heck out of every team they play. The secondary is old-and young. Besides Merriwether, there isn't really a guy who is in his prime. So, I guess I blame personnel more than anything else right now.
There has been co-MVPs before, could they give the awared to THREE players this year? (say Manning, Favre, Brees)
Hard to vote against any of those guys. I gotta say that if Indy or the Saints pull off a 16-0 season that their QB has to get it.
Matt, I think its kinda weak to call people who don't bow to Belichick a "hater". To answer your question, in one game against a top-level team I'm not so sure I'd take Bill...cuz lately, every BIG game he's coached in his team has lost. Just sayin...
But who wins them all? Who do you take ahead of him? I am not saying that everyone is a Hater, but I do know that he is not the most popular guy around and many enjoy seeing him suffer. Lets just say that Faulk converts that fourth down-which was missed by a tiny margin-no one is even having this discussion. Fine line. But with equal talent and time to prepare, I will always take Belichick.
Shawne Merriman to the Pats next year? Makes too much sense doesn't it? San Diego isn't brining him back for a variety of reasons and he would be a huge upgrade over NE's horrific pass rush.
Hadn't thought of that...but wow, could be exactly what they need. NEng is a pretty attractive spot for free agents as well. Also remember that NEng has a lot of draft picks at their disposal over the next two drafts to really move up heavy to grab a stud prospect. They also supposedly flirted with J Peppers last year.
Folks, I gotta run. Sorry about being late-not my style-but it was out of my hands. Come back next week. Great stuff.
