Hi, everyone, sorry I'm late.
Is Auburn a lock for the Outback Bowl? If so, how do you think the bowl selections play out for the rest of the SEC?
It will all become official today or tomorrow. What I hear, and this is incomplete, is LSU in Orlando, Ole Miss in Dallas, Auburn in Tampa, Tennessee in Atlanta, Kentucky in Nashville, South Carolina in Birmingham.
That leaves Shreveport and Memphis for Arkansas and Georgia. I haven't heard which for which.
How did Mark Ingram go from Heisman front runner, to nearly an afterthought in one game? Would beating Florida with 120 yards and 1 TD no longer be enough to assure himself the trophy?
30 yards in 16 carries against an average defense let every other candidate back into the picture. I think if he has those kind of numbers against Florida, he would be tough to beat.
If the Emerald Bowl is forced to choose between Cal and Stanford, which one do you think it takes?
I think the Emerald would take Stanford. They had Cal last year, didn't they? And Stanford has a likely Heisman finalist.
Who deserves the BCS at-large bids? Who will get the BCS at-large bids?
Deserves: TCU, Boise State, Alabama-Fla loser, Iowa.Gets: TCU, Boise State, Alabama-Fla loser, Iowa.
How does Nebraska pull the upset on Saturday night?
The Nebraska offense figures out how to move the ball, the Texas defense has a crisis of confidence after last week's game. Something like that.
Ivan, what are the chances that Ryan Williams is the Freshman of the Year?
Who else is there? Luke Kuechly at BC, I hope I spelled that right, Andrew Luck at Stanford. Those are the first three guys I think of.
What do you think the chances are of a WVU-Fla. St. Gator Bowl?
I'd say they are pretty good. I hope the leagues and the bowl make it happen.
Hey Ivan, 4D picked the Beavers by a point in the Civil War. What's your pick, UO or OSU?
Oregon by three.
You sure the Civil War loser doesn't "deserve" more than an Iowa team that has one win over a top 25 team...and that team is maybe the most unproven top 25 team ever? Keep in mind that a middle of the pack PAC ten team went into Columbus and won...
That's a good point, although I think it would have to be a 9-3 team. And if Oregon is the 9-3 team, they would have lost two down the stretch.
How will Carlos Dunlap's absence affect the SECCG?
Florida is deep along the defensive front, so it won't be catastrophic. What it will do is keep the Gators from walking Brandon Spikes up to the line next to Dunlap and making offenses figure out how to take care of both of them.
Ok Ivan- Bama and UF are pretty close across the board except at the QB position...isn't that the difference in this game?
I think so, absolutely. It's the difference in every game Florida plays.
Why do all these post season awards still have watch lists? Do the voters not use the internet? Why make a list of semi-finalists in October, with many big games still remaining?
Watch lists are a waste of time and serve mainly as a method for the award to see its name in the paper and online.
If Georgia falls all the way to the Liberty bowl after ending the season by beating the number 7 team in the country, how is that good for college football?
Georgia went 7-5, and an ugly 7-5 at that. I don't think it's good or bad for college football.
Who do you see winning the ACC title this weekend?
Georgia Tech wins a close one again.
Any scenario where the Hokies don't end up in Atlanta?
From what I'm told, that's where they will play against Tennessee.
Ivan- The key to the Heisman race seems to be how the voters in the Midwest and Northeast will vote, given their lack of candidate (I am assuming the West votes for Gerhart, the Southwest for McCoy, the South for the Tebow/Ingram winner on Saturday, the Atlantic probably for Tebow given Spiller's last game). How do you see those areas voting? Did Gerhart get on TV enough for the Northeast to even know how to spell his name? The game against ND at least gave him Midwest expsoure.
I think Gerhart got great exposure coming down the stretch, when he played his best. He will be hurt by the fact he isn't playing this week, which is silly.
What bowl are the badgers most likely to play in and what team will they be put up against.
I hear Badgers in Tampa against Auburn -- if Wisconsin wins in Hawaii.
Which team would you rather watch: Penn State or Iowa?
I saw them both on the same night. Given what I saw, I'd rather see Iowa.
Do you see Phillip Fulmer or Tommy Tuberville coaching anywere next year?
No, I don't. There aren't a lot of jobs opening up this season.
Any chance TCU gets the Sugar Bowl invitation? I'd much rather see them go up against FLA/ALA loser than Ga. Tech.
The Sugar gets the first or second pick this year (to replace the Fla-Ala winner) and the last pick. I don't see the Sugar looking past the SEC runner-up to take TCU, and I don't see TCU being passed over by the Fiesta and the Orange bowls.
Lamichael James for freshman of the year?? Hello? Andrew Luck? You've gotta be kidding, james didn't even get to play the first game of the year and still put up huge numbers, not to mention explosive tackle breaking back breaking long runs all season long
I knew I was forgetting someone, nad I knew someone out there would remind me.
If Bowden and FSU get the Gator Bowl, who gets demoted to the Emerald, Miami again??
Boston College will probably be out there.
What is the most enticing matchup for you in Atlanta this weekend? I really love the potential for Joe Haden to vault himself into the top 10 picks in the draft by locking down Julio Jones this week.
That's the matchup everyone wants to see. And Haden already is in the top 10 picks, I bet.
who is the better team texas or TCU???
That's a great question. I think TCU has played better this season, so I don't know why I'm not voting that way.
Patrick Peterson of LSU is better than Joe Haden
You're not the first person I've heard that from this week.
Ndomukong Suh for Heisman? Why do so many voters say he's possibly the best player in the nation, but wont vote for him because DT's don't stand a real chance to win the award... They might stand a chance if people voted for them instead of making excuses.
It's hard to quantify what a defensive tackle does. There aren't stats readily available for it. Plus Nebraska hasn't gotten seen nationally the way that the other top candidates have.
Does Alabama have any hope at all in beating Florida on saturday? this Alabama team couldn't even score a touchdown against Tennessee how can they hold up against an even better Gator defense?
Alabama has a very good chance of beating Florida. Defense is as good as Florida. Special teams are as good as Florida. It comes down to which offense scratches out some points.
What is your prediction for the Big 12 championship?
I don't see Nebraska being able to score enough to win.
Ivan..the All Big 12 team came out yesterday and only 3 longhorns on thefirst team....not one D lineman and no Kindle...this will give UT some bulliten board material...your thaughts?
I'm surprised but I can't imagine the players really care about that.
Any chance Cincy jumps TCU is Texas loses?
There's a very good chance, given that Cincinnati is playing the No. 15 team on the road.
Ivan - the loser of the SEC championship game this year...likely to end up like Alabama last year? Uninspired and getting blown out in their bowl game?
If Florida loses, I don't see Tebow allowing that to happen. If Bama loses, I don't think they would embarrass themselves in that way again.
So does that mean you'll change your vote this week and put TCU above Texas? Does your vote count in any of the BCS polls? It'd be nice if at least one voter ignored the name of the school and just voted based on performance.
I don't vote in either poll, so my opinion has no effect on the BCS, unless the voters hang on my every word. Yeah, that could happen.
I know Bobby Bowden is one of the greats... But how can you justify FSU being in a January 1 bowl based on the record? Doesn't seem fair to the other ACC schools with better records.
If that's what bowls were about, you'd be right. But bowls are also about selling tickets and attracting viewers. In that regard, FSU to the Gator against WV is a no-brainer.
If the civil war is a great one, but OSU prevails - is there any chance the Fiesta Bowl would pick oregon, or would the possible re-match against BSU be the tipping point against the ducks and for iowa?
I don't think the Fiesta would take a 9-3 Oregon over a 10-2 Big Ten team, especially for a rematch. Even that rematch.
There will be a lot of angry Cane fans in Jacksonville if FSU gets the Gator Bowl...
I doubt it. Miami fans usually don't travel to Jacksonville en masse.
So who is the next Notre Dame coach?
I still think Brian Kelly is the obvious guy. If it's not Kelly, I don't know.
I don't recall the SECCG loser playing uninspired or embarrassing themselves last year. I remember a very good and undefeated team that was not given an opportunity to play for the title taking it to Alabama.
I think Utah did everything you said but I think Alabama came in flat, especially after the suspension of All-American OT Andre Smith the week of the game.
People keep saying Florida's offense is not as good as last year's offense. Harvin did not play last year and they still beat Alabama. Won't Florida's offense be better this year against Alabama with Demps, Rainey, Aaron Hernandez, Riley Cooper, etc being the starters all year and not having to adjust to the loss of a Harvin type of player?
I don't think the Florida offense is better this year than last, and the stats don't show that either.
Why has Charlie Strong's name not been mentioned for the Notre Dame job if they are supposedly looking for a defensive minded coach who is also a good recruiter?
Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick has said he wants a head coach with experience. Notre Dame has hired two coordinators in the last 15 years. Davie and Weis didn't win enough. I think the school will hesitate to do so again.
Would you rather see Boise State/Iowa in the Fiesta or Boise State/GA Tech in the Orange?
I'd rather see Boise State-Iowa because I want to see TCU-Ga Tech.
Thanks, everyone. Enjoy a great weekend. Talk to you next week.
