Good morning Sports Nation and welcome to the Tuesday injury chat. I see that there are several of you here already. Let's get to your questions!
Any news on Westbrook and Deangelo Williams? I hate to say it, but I hope they both continue to be hurt. I have McCoy and J. Stewart and I need them to make a playoff run!!! Give me good news please.
Alex: Now we don't want to wish anyone any ill will. So I'll just update the injuries for you. DeAngelo Williams is being called day-to-day and whether he returns to practice Weds will give us our first clue as to how healthy he is. Westbrook is being given some increased activity to do but I think it unlikely that he shows up this week.
Mornin' - You are really what makes the Fantasy Focus worth listening to - just so you know. How's Forsett and Slaton - and which would you go with this week? Thanks -
Patrick: Thanks for the love. Slaton is reportedly consulting with a specialist today - not sure what type of specialist but given that he's got numbness in his hand, I imagine it's a spine specialist or a neurologist who will look at how the nerve is conducting impulses. Either way, not looking so good for him. Forsett was clearly not healthy which is why his activity was limited and Jones got the bulk of the work. Expect Forsett to get healthier - but who knows how quickly - and I think they will continue to use both.
What's the word on Schaub? I know he came back to finish the game on Sunday, but what can we expect long term from this injury?
Rob: Still can't believe he fully dislocated and came back but that continues to be the report. This is his shoulder that he had operated on after the '07 season (his non-throwing shoulder) but it's probably still a little loose - so it may still be uncomfortable, but there's a good chance he plays.
I really need Desean Jaxson this week, what are his chances of playing? Thanks Stephania
Jake: He's already announced that he's playing - and while the official announcement might be a little premature, he knows what the doctors have told him and he knows how he's feeling. So I believe him!
How is steven jackson doing after sundays game? Did his injury get an worse?
Dustin: So far no word that he's worse for the wear, although I'm sure he's still sore. But the fact that he's played through this is a good sign that he will continue to do so.
Morning Stephania - as a 49ers fan, I'm very interested in that hip injury that Kurt Warner suffered at the end of the game on Sunday. It seems like it was very minor - does he play against our Niners on MNF?
Mike: I NEVER wish for injuries...but since I'm going to be traveling to SF to hopefully watch our Niners emerge victorious, I have to admit that I thought if Warner were a little bit off his game I wouldn't mind it. From the sounds of it though, Warner was feeling much better Monday, moving around better than he expected. They're calling it a hip pointer but those can range from minor to quite serious. Looks minor for him - and with the extra day, he'll probably be fine.
Stephania, I hope you can be the bearer of good news for me this week! My playoff hopes hinge on the ankles of Turner and DeAngelo Williams! Can you pleeeeeaaaase update me on both players??? I am playing against my brother in the 1st round of the playoffs and you know how us little brothers like beating our big brothers!!! Thanks!
Nathan: I have a little brother who likes beating his big sister too (although it rarely happens...)But I do like helping a brother out...so since we already talked Williams, Turner I imagine will try to get back in practice late in the week. They need him back. Norwood is definitely not fully healthy, despite the extended time off - makes me wonder what's really going on with his hip. But I also expect that if Turner plays, he will not be 100 percent healthy. Hard not to start him if he plays - but it could be week 12-like again.
Stephania, Ward Ward Ward Ward Ward...Hines Ward, will he play Thursday Night...fantasy playoff implications and IF he plays, would you play him against the Browns?
Eric: If he does play, which I doubt based on the clues from the team so far, he will not be at full speed and I would be inclined to stay away. Only 4 days rest - and no matter how tough a player, a fresh hamstring injury can take away your explosiveness, etc - and very easy to get re-injured. We've certainly seen it before.
Good morning Stephania, do you think we can drop Clinton Portis at this point. I could use the roster spot but don't want to make a rash decision.
Jack: Well, he's in Pittsburgh being re-evaluated as we speak. He's scheduled to return tonight at which point we should have some more information. Until then, we really don't know. But the fact that he had some lingering symptoms and was still not in practice certainly don't bode well for an imminent return. I would really look elsewhere.
Anthony Gonzalez returning this year?
Elvis: Doubt it - not in time to be fantasy help anyway. If anything, targeting the playoffs. That's not what the Colts are saying, but based on what he's been able to do (or not do as the case may be), even if he gets into a game before the end of the season, it's probably for minimal time.
Stephania, how do you feel about Matt Ryan? Is he worth dropping for someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brady Quinn, or Josh Freeman going into the playoffs?
Andrew: I think there's certainly a chance that we don't see Ryan again this season. His injury, while it did not require immediate surgery, was serious nonetheless and will probably keep him out a couple weeks at least. If the Falcons continue to lose, then I would not be surprised if he does not return.
Morning Stepahnia! Sorry about your 49ers. Tough loss. How is Jeremichael Finley's Knee? If he is good, is he a better start then Kellen Winslow?
Jake: hearing that FInley has a knee bruise. More importantly, after X-rays came back negative, he did return to the game. I expect him to play this week - the challenge is that there are several tight ends in Green Bay and you never know who Rodgers is throwing to...
I need Kevin Smith to have a solid game this week. Should I expect the worse and hope for the best?
Kirvin: Isn't that the story with him every week?
He Steph, any news on Mendenhall with the short week coming?
Joe: I think they're limiting his practice reps specifically b/c it is a short week - but he is expected to start.
As of now Calvin Johnson does not seem to be on the injury report. Is he finally back to 100%? And if Stafford does want to sit out a week or 2 from his injury should this hurt Megatrons value significantly?
Danny: I'm not sure I call him 100 percent - but I'd be willing to call him better than he's been in a month. I think even if Stafford's out, Johnson is clearly the Number one target, and you have to start him if you have him.
Stephanie, I love your work, but I can never get an IDP question answered! I own Eric Weddle in a 16 team league and sure could use him back by week 15 when our playoffs start. Is that looking likely?
Corey: (it's Stephania btw...) - and I think I have mentioned Weddle in a chat - I think...anyway, the target date for his return from an MCL sprain was projected to be Week 15. The problem is you likely won't know much more about that until late this week - so hang onto him if you have the space and hope for the best.
Good morrow, Ms. Bell. I was wondering if you could provide any details on EJ Henderson's leg injury. It was one of the more grisly I've seen and the simple explanation I've heard (broken leg) doesn't quite match the severity in my mind.
Scott: He actually had a fractured femur - so it's the thigh bone - these are far more complex (usually) than a broken lower leg, and depending on exactly where the break is and the extent of the surgery (I have not heard details yet), it could be career threatening. Very scary injury - we'll see how he progresses but I doubt there will be any early answers.
Any new on Hester..I really need him to play this week since Ward may be a no go
Mike: He suffered a calf strain in last week's game but the early reports are that it was minor and they hope to have him back this week.
Any news on Brent Celeks thumb injury?
Pat: Nothing official from the team. he looked better this week, but maybe not completely himself (not totally surprising). Can't imagine he sits out and as long as he's not worse (no reason to think he is), he should actually be in better shape next weekend.
Any word on Gage? Thanks
John: He was back in practice last week and actually listed as questionable. I think he could see some playing time this week, but with Britt's performance I don't expect him to take over as the primary target.
Any news on Sanchez???? Or should i not worry.....i have Freeman and M.Moore
Brian: Well, of the three I like Moore. Sanchez has not practiced yet but Rex Ryan seems to be very positive that he'll play. Hmmm. If he were any other position, (i.e. WR, RB), I'd say no way he plays - but he might be serviceable as QB. BUT, he will be in a brace now on both knees and he will be gimpy. Certainly doesn't help his ability to move around and makes him more of a target. Probably makes it tougher to throw deep as well. Just sounds messy. Stay away.
Do you expect Ronnie Brown to make a full recovery in time for next years fantasy football draft (Keeper league)?
Tyler: Lots of benchmarks to cross in terms of healing between now and then, but as of now, there's no reason to think he won't...
Other than his fumbleitis, is there an update on Jammal Charles' injury - I beleive it was a minor shoulder injury.
Josh: They're calling it a sore right shoulder and he also has a sprained ankle. That said, the Chiefs are not acting concerned about his availability and he will be THE guy there. Assume they limit his practice some with that in mind.
Any health awareness tips you can give to lower stress levels when watching the late games with your fantasy season riding on garbage time scores?
Billy: Lots of deep breathing and occasional channel-changing. That's what I do.
I decided to get greedy and post this question twice. I hope it doesnt get me blocked! I was wondering if you had any information on Visanthe Schianco? Word is he aggrivated his ribs.
Oh Fiona: Only twice? That's not bad at all - and I encourage it b/c sometimes it helps me see your question! He certainly looked uncomfortable a couple of times in that game - but there hasn't been anything big out of Minnesota. I imagine it will be a similar week - limited practice and treatment for pain management - and use him again on Sunday.
Eddie Royal??? Any word?
Andre: He's OK - maybe still recovering from his thigh injury - but it's not like he had superstar productivity before that. So I don't see a huge adjustment.
Is Favre holding up OK or any signs he may break down?
James: Besides being 40 and having aging joints, muscles and tendons...it's amazing how well he's held up so far. I think he looks tons better at this point this year than last year obviously - and certainly better than many thought he would when he entered the season.
Does Vinatieri practice and play this week?
Doesn't sound like it. Colts avoiding a timetable on this one now as he sounds a ways off.
Pick up Meachem or Garcon for greater week 15 and 16 (playoff) value?
Josh: Hard not to love Meachem lately - and there's nothing to suggest that Moore is on the verge of returning.
any word about brady's injuries?
Patrick: I think he's hurting more from his team's performance lately than his injuries. Seriously though, I don't think there are any major concerns. His finger may have been a factor, but it was hardly the most significant one - and it should be better this week.
Speaking of Meachem, what's your take on the scoring for his play? I don't agree that the DST should get credit.
John: I was actually in this identical situation a few years back and did NOT get the credit b/c the argument is that the offensive player turns into a "defnesive" one and therefore the defensive credit. I think Meachem made the play, he should get the points, but unfortunately they do not consider my opinion one iota in this situation.
stephania, is that italian? this is important! my sister is picking names for twins, she has a daughter Alessandra, and we need good names!
kl: Wow- that would be great. Stephania (the way I spell it) is Hungarian in origin, but there is an Italian version - typically spelled with an "f" (stefania). Good luck!
And on that note, thanks so much for coming everyone! Please come back Friday when we do it again after teams have had a week of practice! See you then. Have a great week!
