Why does Jerry insist on getting involved with what the coaches want to do on the field. Either let Wade coach or stay out of it!
Thanks for joining me on the chat. Good to get going on an upbeat note. You can complain all you want about Jerry Jones walking the sidelines and giving locker room speeches and discussing coaching matters with the media, etc. He bought the Cowboys so he could run them, not so he could sit in a boardroom and count his money. He's the most passionate owner in the NFL, for better or worse, and he isn't going to change.
I think Jason Garret has done a horrible job! What are the odds he gets released after the season?
The warm feelings are really flowing for an 8-4 team that leads it division, huh? Jason Garrett has another year left on his contract, so Jerry has to pay $3 million to Garrett whether he's here or not. Garrett won't get fired if Wade Phillips returns. If there's a new coach, it will be interesting to see if Jerry lets the guy he hires hand-pick his staff. If that doesn't happen, it would likely limit the pool of candidates.
What happens if Romo drops a hold this game?
I would think that might send Romo back into retirement as a holder, but the Cowboys options are extremely limited. Mat McBriar isn't comfortable with the role, especially after such a bright spotlight has been shined on it the last week. Nobody else on the roster can do a decent job or they'd be filling the role. Do you sign a guy just to hold? Call Brad Johnson and beg him to come back? I should point out that Romo botching a hold is extremely unlikely. It happened once. He had hundreds of good holds. The bad one just came at an awful time.
Hire a coach for your team today. Only choices are Norv Turner or Wade. Who do you hire and why?
I'd hire the guy who has had some playoff success. Wade Phillips' regular season record is much better than Norv Turner's, but Turner's team has won when it mattered.
Dallas has to be kicking themselves for not taking that 1st rounder from Cincy for Bennett, don't they? Anytime you can get a first round pick for a tight end not named Witten or Gates I would think you have to take it.
Not sure that a first-round pick was offered. Jerry Jones was vague about that. But I'd agree with your point about taking a first-round for a second TE any time. However, had the Cowboys made that deal, it would have been a sign that the front office didn't believe the team could contend this season. That's a bad message to send. The Cowboys still think Bennett has immense potential, but after his spectacular training camp, it's disappointing that he hasn't been an impact player this season.
Bill Cower is just what the Cowboys need. A coach thats gonna light a fire under them. If Wade gets the axe who would be at the top of your list?
Bill Cowher sounds good, but my understanding is that he wouldn't be willing to work under Jerry's rules. Mike Holmgren, a QB guru with a Super Bowl ring as a head coach, would be at the top of my list. Mike Shanahan might be at the top of Jerry's, although his Denver teams always featured quick offensive lines instead of the massive maulers the Cowboys have locked up to lucrative long-term contracts.
Tim.. What do you think the cowboys chances are to bring in a hard nose coach like Jon Gruden??
I believe Gruden is enjoying his ESPN gig for now.
we cant forget that the boys play in a very competitive division so whomever you play in december...the games will be tough.Maybe its just me but i feel better with this years team when there backs are up against it!
Yes, the Cowboys had an extremely difficult December last season. And they do again this season. But, like Tony Romo has said, the Cowboys have to beat those types of teams anyway if they're going to accomplish their goals.
When does Kevin Ogletree get his chance? I knew him at UVA and he was lightning-fast and was just an all-around gamer. He slipped in the draft because of an ACL injury but I think he should be starting opposite Austin.
Whoa, slow down!! Kevin Ogletree was a great pickup as an undrafted free agent and could develop into a No. 3 receiver within two or three years. But it's crazy to say that the rookie should be starting right now. We've seen his burst on the few quick screens that the Cowboys have thrown him. He hasn't done anything else in the regular season, although he was consistently solid during training camp and the preseason. He can learn a lot from Patrick Crayton about being an NFL receiver.
I know it shouldn't really be look at as a big deal, but it just makes me so uncomfortable to see Romo holding for FGs. What do you think Tim?
It is certainly not an ideal situation, but the Cowboys can't afford to keep giving away field goals. Romo holding is the best solution they have to a problem that could cost them a playoff berth if they don't fix it.
wade cant be serious bout being compared 2 bill aka hoodie
In fairness to Wade Phillips, he didn't compare himself to Bill Belichick. He used Belichick as an example of a coach whose early track record didn't hint at his future success. And Wade wondered how many coaches with 30 wins the last three seasons had to answer questions about his job security. The media crunched the numbers and figured out that Belichick was the only other coach who had won that many games the last three seasons. Of course, Wade might have known that when he made the comment.
Why are people critical of Wade or the Cowboys their building a young team weve had winning seasons we could be 6-10 or worst ever season Our best coach ever would have been fired in today's nfl how many years until Landry had a winning season
Wade Phillips didn't take over an expansion franchise, so your comparison is pretty shaky. But there's no question that today's coaches are scrutinized much more than those of the '60s.
Normally a back-up QB is holder, is there a reason Kitna does not hold or is it just the coaches wanted some consistency there and letting McBriar hold provided that since both he
Kitna told the coaches in the spring that he wasn't comfortable in the role. You'd think that he would have maybe tried to become comfortable as a holder, but that didn't happen, so he's not an option.
What will it take to get Wade out of here? Oh never mind, Jerry will just hire another puppet to replace him. Any chance he changes his ways and gets a real coach, i.e. - Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren, etc.?
If Jerry doesn't bring back Wade, I don't think he'll hire a puppet, per se. There's too much at stake with the new stadium, especially with the Super Bowl coming to town next season. How much control Jerry is willing to sacrifice is the question.
OK, folks, gotta wrap it up now. This has been quite an uplifting experience. Thanks
