Scott is here and ready to roll...get your questions in. Now. Please.

Andrew (San Diego)

SVP, tell me you're not taking an "indefintely leave" from anything!

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:59 PM)

never

Joe (LA)

RIP Chris Henry. How do the Bengals cope with this and get ready for the Chargers?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:03 PM)

Look at the Favre Monday Night game against Oakland when his father passed away, as an example of how you can channel into something positive.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:03 PM)

And the Bengals have already dealt with this with Coach Zimmer's wife passing. It's a lot to ask, but sometimes the worst brings out the best in people.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

SVP: I'll really try to keep my questions to a minimum today. With the developments over the past few weeks, do you think athletes will begin to re-evaluate their personal relationships or will they mostly believe that such things won't happen to them?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:04 PM)

No, I don't. Human nature is what it is. It's like if you get a speeding ticket, you'll slow down for a week or two, but if you have a lead foot, you'll start speeding again eventually. You either obey the speed limit or you don't. You either cheat or you don't.

Eric (Wisconsin)

Scott and Ryen, love the show, listen everyday on the radio and usually again on podcenter. Scott, what did you ask for Christmas this year? Better chance to pick winners on Fridays??

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:05 PM)

Isn't this a question for Ryen?

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

OK, I'm done with only two questions submitted. Just wanted to close by wishing you a safe, happy, healthy and joyous Christmas season (sorry but I don't go with the Happy Holidays thing). I hope you get what you want this year and wanted to thank you for allowing me to sound off in the chats. Peace, good sir.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:08 PM)

We give you grief because we appreciate ya. Thanks for being here every Thursday. I wish you the best this Christmas as well.

Jon (Lex, KY)

SVP: Do you think the colts will continue their regular-season win streak tonight?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:08 PM)

Listen today, for a bonus winner. That should give you an indication of which way I'm leaning. Alright I'll spell it out for ya. I don't take favorites. So that's a no.

Matt (Philadelphia)

Any chance the Big Ten would look at your alma mater? They'd get a big market, decent academics there, and Bentley's and Santa Fe are pretty good bars.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:09 PM)

If Maryland left the ACC for the Big Ten I would go on a hunger strike. We're an ACC school. Period.

Jackson (Grayslake, IL)

Very disappointed with the album of the decade debate. How can Flight of the Concords not be #1?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:11 PM)

Because it wasn't? I enjoy them as you know, but I got grief for picking an album that's 10 years old that still is relevant. Jemaine and Brett won't be 10 years from now to anyone except a hearty few.

Ben (MN)

Let's get off sports for a second....You have to choose between getting hit with a C sized battery from Nolan Ryan in his prime and you don't know where it is going to hit you....or getting body slammed into a solid frozen MN ground by a 400 lb man???? You get to choose...

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:12 PM)

You are as twisted as us. You must listen. Man...this is brutal. The Nolan Ryan thing would be worse. The anticipation and the terror. I don't want to get slammed into the tundra, but that's my pick.

Davis (Charlotte)

Tiger and Jack use the same equipment and play the same courses, who wins more (this is the Jack argument BTW)?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:14 PM)

Impossible to answer, but a different way to look at the same question is how much would Jack win today with oversized drivers and golf balls that don't get affected as much by the wind? I assume your answer in both cases would be Jack, and I understand why people say that. I just don't see how we can ever know for certain.

Biggy (Washington, NC)

Seriously, you still listen to that much hip-hop? Outkast as the best album of the decade? What mustic do you listen to besides rap?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:17 PM)

My Morning Jacket, TV on the Radio, Maxwell, D'Angelo, Radiohead, Mos Def, Raconteurs, Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Chili Peppers. I'm an eclectic dude. I didn't mention U2, I assume they're a given. It's funny, bands like U2 and Green Day somehow earn you a cross-eyed look from people who have stumbled onto the next big thing. Good music is good music. I loved how people gave me crap for not being allowed to like hip hop because I was white. Can I not eat chinese food too? How could I possibly appreciate it, I'm a white guy from the suburbs. Someone make me a cheese sandwich.

Lance (Chicago)

More idiotic idea, NCAA BB Tourney expanding/NFL expaning to Europe. Nearly impossible right?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:18 PM)

Great question/point. I have an idea for expanding the tournament by 4 teams. Make each 1 seed play the winner of a play in game. You get four more bubble teams in and match up 8 teams in play in games who are still happy to be in the field. NFL in London is ridiculous.

Marc (Malden, MA)

Vinny Cerrato is out...Merry Christmas to Redskins fans. What do you think of the new GM?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:19 PM)

Had to happen. Redskins fans are smart and know that this is a move that's long overdue. Will the owner keep his finger out of the soup? That's the bigger question.

Mike (Ohio)

Tar Heels and Longhorns tangle on Saturday. Please tell me Texas will smoke them!

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:20 PM)

I really like Texas a lot. It's funny how they are the #2 team in the country and yet it's not that big of a deal in Austin where football is king. They're spoiled right now down there because Rick Barnes' squad is going to be nasty in the Spring.

Eric (Jersey)

Who is your favorite Wu-Tang Clan member?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:21 PM)

M-E-T-H-O-D MAN

Chris (Cleveland)

Hey Scott, if Holmgreen ends up taking the czar position in Cleveland, what are the chances he brings in one of his former coaches such as Gruden?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:22 PM)

We've gotten a number of questions about Holmgren, I think he brings in some credibility and stability but he wasn't great in the role in Seattle. It's interesting how you can convince yourself of a reality that's false if you try hard enough. If he were to hire a Gruden (there's history there) now you've significantly upgraded everything. I want Cleveland to be good, those people have suffered enough.

Marc (Malden, MA)

I'd rather see the NCAA expand by 4 teams, but have the last 8 at large teams in play the play-in games and get the 12 seeds. I don't like how two automatic qualifiers are in the play-in game.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:24 PM)

I understand that position, but don't agree with it. The last 4 bubble teams in could win a first round game. We've never seen a 16 beat a 1. So...making 8 teams play against each other in play in games, thins the herd of four teams that truly have no shot. I'm not saying my way is perfect, but I think it increases by 4 the number of teams in the field capable of winning a game at a minimum.

Darin (Blackfoot, ID)

SVP...Lackey deal will end up like the Pavano deal in NY?? alot of cake and no frosting?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:26 PM)

Thanks for using my analogy, but I think Lackey has substance, he's a bulldog (overused I know) and makes their rotation ridiculously deep. You're essentially predicting Lackey will never give Boston ANYTHING. That's pretty bold.

Clay (Charlotte)

Why don't we just let every Division I team play in the NCAA tourny? Hell, we might as well let all of them play in a bowl game too.

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:27 PM)

I agree when you allow everyone into the tournament, or any team with a .500 record to play in a bowl game, you diminish any notion that it's special. Having said that, it will give us more games to watch on TV and more games to bet on. These are good things. Right?

Scott Van Pelt
  (1:28 PM)

Alright, everyone have a good Holiday season. Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, whatever it is you celebrate. Do it with Family & Friends. Do it safely. We'll talk again soon.
